MSBuild: automate collecting of db migration scripts?

Summary of environment. Asp.net web application (source stored in svn) sqlserver database. (Database schema (tables/sprocs) stored in svn) db version is synced with web application assembly version. (stored in table 'CurrentVersion') CI hudson server that checks out web app from repo and runs custom msbuild file to publish/package app. My msbuild script updates the assembly version of the web app (Major.Minor.Revision.Build) on each build. The 'Revision' is set to the currently checked out svn revision and the 'Build' to the hudson build number (incremented on each automated build). This way i can match the app to a specific trunk revision also get other build stats from the hudson build number. I'd like to automate the collecting of migration scripts (updated sprocs etc) to add to the zip package. I guess by comparing the svn revision of the db that has yet to be deployed to, to the revision being deployed, i can find what db files have changed in the trunk since the last deployment to that database/environment. This could easily be achieved by manually calling the svn diff -r REVNO:REVNO command to list changed .sql files. These files could then manually have to be added to the package. It would be great if this could be automated. Firstly i'd imagine I'll have to write a custom task to check the version of the db that has yet to be deployed to. After that I'm quite unsure. Does anyone have any suggestion on how this would be achieved through an msbuild task either existing or custom? Finally I'll have to autogen a script to add to the package that updates the database version table so as to be in sync with the application.

MSSQL: Primary Key Schema Largely Guid but Sometimes Integer Types...

OK, this may be a silly question but... I have inherited a project and am tasked with going over the primary key relationships. The project largely uses Guids. I say "largely" because there are examples where tables use integral types to reflect enumerations. For example, dbo.MessageFolder has MessageFolderId of type int to reflect public emum MessageFolderTypes { inbox = 1, sent = 2, trash = 3, etc... } This happens a lot. There are tables with primary keys of type int which is unavoidable because of their reliance on enumerations and tables with primary keys of type Guid which reflect the primary key choice on the part of the previous programmer. Should I care that the PK schema is spotty like this? It doesn't feel right but does it really matter? If this could create a problem, how do I get around it (I really can't move all PKs to type int without serious legwork and I have never heard of enumerations that have guid values)? Thanks.

Flex: Method doesn't work when being called on parentDocument

Hi, I wonder is anyone can look at this code and tell me why calling the removeSelectedChild works when called from the same document, but returns the following error when called from the child document/component. Undefined method for a belongs_to association

Trying to override onbeforeunload in first step of form wizard

I have added a flag for the submit function and need to add this one for the first step. DBIx::Class base result class

Hi there, I am trying to create a model for Catalyst by using DBIx::Class::Schema::Loader. I want the result classes to have a base class I can add methods to. So MyTable.pm inherits from Base.pm which inherits from DBIx::Class::core (default). Somehow I cannot figure out how to do this. my create script is below, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? why does cx_oracle execute() not like my string now?

I've downloaded cx_oracle some time ago and wrote a script to convert data to XML. I've had to reisntall my OS and grabbed the latest version of cx_Oracle (5.0.3) and all of the sudden my code is broken. The first thing was that cx_Oracle.connect wanted unicode rather string for the username and password, that was very easy to fix. But now it keeps failing on the cursor.execute and tells me my string is not a string even when type() tells me it is a string. How do I select dynamic ids in this format?

I'm trying to select dynamic ids when a user types something into the input fields. C++ memory management of reference types

Hello, I'm still a fairly novice programmer and I have a question about c++ memory management with refence types. First of all, my understanding of reference types: A pointer is put on the stack and the actual data that the pointer points to is created and placed on the heap. Standard arrays and user defined classes are refence types. Is this correct? Second, my main question is do c and c++'s memory management mechanisms (malloc, free and new, delete) always handle this properly and free the memory that a class or array is pointing to? Does everything still work if those pointers get reassigned somehow to other objects of the same size/type on the heap? What if a class has a pointer member that points to another object? I am assuming that delete/freeing the class object doesn't free what it's member pointer points to, is that correct? Thanks all! -R

How can I maximally partition a set?

I'm trying to solve one of the Project Euler problems. As a consequence, I need an algorithm that will help me find all possible partitions of a set, in any order. For instance, given the set 2 3 3 5: 2 | 3 3 5 2 | 3 | 3 5 2 | 3 3 | 5 2 | 3 | 3 | 5 2 5 | 3 3 and so on. Pretty much every possible combination of the members of the set. I've searched the net of course, but haven't found much that's directly useful to me, since I speak programmer-ese not advanced-math-ese. Can anyone help me out with this? I can read pretty much any programming language, from BASIC to Haskell, so post in whatever language you wish.

What benefits can Java developer have moving to a *NIX platform?

Hi everyone, A friend of mine is a Java developer, who's using *NIX for ages. He claims that *NIX is for real Java geeks, whereas WIN is for dummies (and I'm one of them, according to him) and girls. When I ask him to argue his position, and explain, what's so good for Java developer on *NIX, he starts talking about console, wget, curl and grep. But sorry, wget and curl analogues exist for the WIN platform as well. As for the console - I'm using FAR Commander, and have access to the command line when I need. Moreover, even if I decide moving to *NIX, I will certainly use Netbeans or Eclipse there, so there will be no big difference. Guys, who use Java on *NIX, could you please give me a real killer examples, when *NIX (any util or technique) dramatically increases Java development productivity (in the way the hints are given in "The Pragmatic Programmer"), or, which is also important, gives more fun from the process. Ajax Request not working. onSuccess and onFailure not triggering

Hi all, trying to make a page which will recursively call a function until a limit has been reached and then to stop. It uses an ajax query to call an external script (which just echo's "done" for now) howver with neither onSuccess or onFailure triggering i'm finding it hard to find the problem. Here is the javascript for it. In the header for the webpage there is a script to an ajax.js document which contains the request data. Why do people develop emotional attachments for programming languages?

Aside from people who actually developed the languages, I really don't get how someone can develop passion/attachment/perhaps even obsession for a programming language... yet not a day goes by that I don't see a programmer exhibiting this behavior on the internet. I understand how people can feel this way regarding spoken languages - but there's a whole boatload of culture, history, etc that come attached with them. By comparison, the "Python Culture" (as an example) is so small as to be wholly insignificant. Does everyone have a language they love? Am I the odd one out? The dirty polygamist? Are these people rational or silly?
