• Accessing Instance Attributes from Secondary Thread (iPhone-SDK)

  I have a class with an NSDictionary attribute. Inside this class I dispatch another thread to handle NSXMLParser handling. Inside my -didStartElement, I access the dictionary in the class (to compare an element found in the XML to one in the dictionary). At this point I get undefined results. Using NSLog (I'm not advanced in XCode debugging), I see that it bombs around access of the NSDictionary. I tried just iterating the dictionary and dumping the key/values inside the didStartElement and this bombs at different keys each time. The only thing I can conclude is that something is not kosher that I'm doing with regards to accessing main thread attributes from the secondary thread. I'm somewhat new to multithreading and am not sure what the best protocol is safely access attributes from additional threads. Thanks all.

• CUDA Driver API vs. CUDA runtime

  When writing CUDA applications, you can either work at the driver level or at the runtime level as illustrated on this image (The libraries are CUFFT and CUBLAS for advanced math): I assume the tradeoff between the two are increased performance for the low-evel API but at the cost of increased complexity of code. What are the concrete differences and are there any significant things which you cannot do with the high-level API? I am using CUDA.net for interop with C# and it is built as a copy of the driver API. This encourages writing a lot of rather complex code in C# while the C++ equivalent would be more simple using the runtime API. Is there anything to win by doing it this way? The one benefit I can see is that it is easier to integrate intelligent error handling with the rest of the C# code.

  Hello, I recently started experimenting with jQgrid, and much appreciate for any guidance on the below use case. I need to implement a (advanced)search functionality, and the results are loaded in the jQgrid. When use pagination, how to specify a complex query in the post data? In the serverside (grails) it it represented as an object, which is mocked below class searchCommand { String val1 List<long> ids //from the multiple selection } the above members can be null, if the user doesn't select any. Without saving the state at the server, I guess the only way to make the pagination work is to pass the query object back and forth with the correct offset, index etc. if that is the case, how best to represent it in jQgrid side. I saw a parameter postData to set additional values, but not sure how to represnt the data (JSON??). Any code snippet on (retaining) converting it from the last result to postData would be helpful. thanks in advance.

• Issues with Android TabHost Example

  I have been attempting to implement the 'advanced' tabwidget example from google. But, when it tries to call tabHost.addTab(spec); I get a stack trace from the debugger. Sorry, I don't have the stack trace here, but I'm wondering if others have had this same issue (as this code had a number of typo's and missing information that stopped me from even compiling. Can anyone point me to a corrected/running version of this code? • JavaMail not sending Subject or From under jetty:run-war

  Has anyone seen JavaMail not sending proper MimeMessages to an SMTP server, depending on how the JVM in started? At the end of the day, I can't send JavaMail SMTP messages with Subject: or From: fields, and it appears other headers are missing, only when running the app as a war. The web project is built with Maven and I'm testing sending JavaMail using a browser and a simple mail.jsp to debug and see different behavior when launching the app with: 1) mvn jetty:run (mail sends fine, with proper Subject and From fields) 2) mvn jetty:run-war (mail sends fine, but missing Subject, From, and other fields) I've meticulously run diff on the (verbose) Maven debug output (-X), and there are zero differences in the runtime dependencies between the two. I've also compared System properties, and they are identical. Something else is happening the jetty:run-war case that changes the way JavaMail behaves. What other stones need turning? Curiously, I've tried a debugger in both situations and found that the javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage instance is getting created differently. The webapp is using Spring to send email picked off of an Apache ActiveMQ queue. When running the app as mvn jetty:run the MimeMessage.contentStream variable is used for message content. When running as mvn jetty:run-war, the MimeMessage.content variable is used for the message contents, and the content = ASCIIUtility.getBytes(is); call removes all of the header data from the parsed content. Since this seemed very odd, and debugging Spring/ActiveMQ is a deep dive, I created a simplified test without any of that infrastructure: just a JSP using mail-1.4.2.jar, yet the same headers are missing. Also of note, these headers are missing when running the WAR file under Tomcat 5.5.27. Tomcat behaves just like Jetty when running the WAR, with the same missing headers. With JavaMail debugging turned on, I clearly see different output.   Are "Visual Studio Setup" Projects suitable for complex setups in different versions? The application is rather large ( 500.000 lines of code) and is under continuous development. Every 6 to 10 month a new version gets released. We have multiple configuration files (INI and XML), registry keys, database migration scripts, etc. The application is in the progress of being migrated from VB6 to .NET . The old installer was build with Installshield. The feedback to Installshield is: Bad adaptability, bad reuse - thats way we are evaluating "Visual Studio Setup" as an alternative. Other products we consider: Free Solutions WiX NSIS Commercial Solutions Installshield (again..) Wise Advanced Installer sth. missing? Solutions we don't like to consider: Inno Setup (It just doesn't feel right)

  Im new to ActionScript and Flex 3... im trying to develop an MVC 100% OOP application with Flex 3 using MXML,AS3 and PHP. M (PHP) V (MXML) C (AS3) The 3 layers i choose for my development. I have 10 AS3 classes that are object related between them and some inherit or implement interfaces. The only problem here is how to interact 100% OOP with my model. In this case my model has to be a PHP Class that needs to be called from AS3 (the controller). For example the AS3 class : Patient have a method called Save: public function Save(data:Array) : void { /* PHP call - model layer */ } I want to create an instance of my PHP Patient Model class that connects to the DB and insert the data array into it. What should i use ? how can i also return a variable to AS3 ? What happen to as3 if there is a cached Exception in PHP ? Thanks in advanced :)

• CSS layout with 2 columns, taking up all width of browser, where left column can collapse

  I want to have a 2 column layout, and have the left column able to be 200 px at first, and have a "shrink" button to shrink it down to 10px, and have the right column expand to fill all the rest of the available space. Then if they click on the "show" button (which will be all they see in the now 10px wide left column) have the left grow back to 200px and have the right column shrink by that amount. I can't figure out how to make the right column grown and shrink without knowing the exact width of the window. I hope this makes sense, and I really hope someone can point me in the right direction. Browser requirements are IE8, FF3.6, Safari, and Chrome, so in theory I can use some advanced CSS techniques. At least I don't have to support IE6.

  I have a file we will call info.txt under UNIX format that has only the following in it: #Dogs #Cats #Birds #Rabbits and am running this against it: $filename = "info.txt"; $fd = fopen ($filename, "r"); $contents = fread ($fd,filesize ($filename)); fclose ($fd); $delimiter = "#"; $insideContent = explode($delimiter, $contents); Now everything looks to be working fine except when I display the array I get the following. [0] => [1] => Dogs [2] => Cats [3] => Birds [4] => Rabbits I checked the .txt file to make sure there wasn't any space or hidden characters in front of the first # so I'm at a loss of why this is happening other than I feel like I'm missing something terribly simple. • Arguments of using WCF/OData as access layer instead of EF/L2S/nHibernate directly

  We develop mostly low traffic but highly specialized web applications. Normally we use L2S, EF or nHibernate as access layer and then throws Asp.Net MVC to it and in which for normal crud operations we query the ISession/DataContext directly but for more advanced functions/side effects we put it in a some kind of service layer. Now, i was think about publishing the data through OData (WCF Data Service) and query that from the controllers (or even from jQuery when the a good template engine shows up) and publish the service operations through a WCF service (or as custom methods on the WCF Data Service?). What advantages/disadvantages does this architecture poses? Do I gain something except higher complexity and latency? Better separations of concerns (or is it just a illusion)?

And in the SQL Server 2005 import and export wizard the flate file source advanced tab the OutputColumnWith is 50. Will that say my flate file column is max 50? • Are you as productive in Javascript as you are in .Net or Java?

  I code primarily in javascript and in vb.net. I've found that if I can achieve the same thing in both javascript and vb.net that I feel far more productive and expressive using javascript for the task. I often find myself researching server-side javascript implementations to see if anything has gone mainstream so that I can code my back-end business logic and data access in javascript. Given all the advanced tooling and language features in .Net this preference seems somewhat paradoxical to me. I'm not suggesting one is better than the other (I've been a vb programmer since I started programming), I'm just wondering if my preference is entirely subjective or if anyone else shares it. So, does anyone else enjoy coding in javascript to the point where you prefer it to the .Net and Java environment, and if, so why?

• Preventing closure compiler from renaming certain variables

  I have a javascript file with a global object that must not be renamed (_gat from the Google Analytics async tracker). This object must not be renamed by the Google Closure Compiler as Google Analytics looks for a variable with this specific name. I've looked into the Javascript Doc notations that are mentioned: http://code.google.com/closure/compiler/docs/js-for-compiler.html - However, I cannot find anything regarding the "protection" of a variable. The problem exists no matter if I use simple or advanced compilation. How can I ensure that the _gat variable is not renamed?
