• Do I have to learn html and javascript to create web applications?

  I am an experienced Java programmer, and I want to create a complex web application requiring dynamic pages, drawings, etc (take SO as an example). Do I have to learn javascript/html in order to create such an application? It is not that I don't want to learn another language (I've done this before), but technology on the javascript environment seems to change so fast that when you finish learning one framework it is already obsolete. I have checked a number of java framework for web development (spring, play), but not deeply. So can these frameworks (or other possible java frameworks that I'm not aware of) be used without learning html/javascript? I also have some python experience. So if I can do the app in python it is also an option.

• Data Source Security Part 1

  I’ve written a couple of articles on how to store data source security credentials using the Oracle wallet.  I plan to write a few articles on the various types of security available to WebLogic Server (WLS) data sources.  There are more options than you might think! There have been several enhancements in this area in WLS 10.3.6.  There are a couple of more enhancements planned for release WLS 12.1.2 that I will include here for completeness.  This isn’t intended as a teaser.  If you call your Oracle support person, you can get them now as minor patches to WLS 10.3.6.   The current security documentation is scattered in a few places, has a few incorrect statements, and is missing a few topics.  It also seems that the knowledge of how to apply some of these features isn’t written down.  The goal of these articles is to talk about WLS data source security in a unified way and to introduce some approaches to using the available features.  Introduction to WebLogic Data Source Security Options By default, you define a single database user and password for a data source.  You can store it in the data source descriptor or make use of the Oracle wallet.  This is a very simple and efficient approach to security.  All of the connections in the connection pool are owned by this user and there is no special processing when a connection is given out.  That is, it’s a homogeneous connection pool and any request can get any connection from a security perspective (there are other aspects like affinity).  Regardless of the end user of the application, all connections in the pool use the same security credentials to access the DBMS.   No additional information is needed when you get a connection because it’s all available from the data source descriptor (or wallet). java.sql.Connection conn =  mydatasource.getConnection(); Note: You can enter the password as a name-value pair in the Properties field (this not permitted for production environments) or you can enter it in the Password field of the data source descriptor. The value in the Password field overrides any password value defined in the Properties passed to the JDBC Driver when creating physical database connections. It is recommended that you use the Password attribute in place of the password property in the properties string because the Password value is encrypted in the configuration file (stored as the password-encrypted attribute in the jdbc-driver-params tag in the module file) and is hidden in the administration console.  The Properties and Password fields are located on the administration console Data Source creation wizard or Data Source Configuration tab. The JDBC API can also be used to programmatically specify a database user name and password as in the following.  java.sql.Connection conn = mydatasource.getConnection(“user”, “password”); According to the JDBC specification, it’s supposed to take a database user and associated password but different vendors implement this differently.  WLS, by default, treats this as an application server user and password.  The pair is authenticated to see if it’s a valid user and that user is used for WLS security permission checks.  By default, the user is then mapped to a database user and password using the data source credential mapper, so this API sort of follows the specification but database credentials are one-step removed from the application code.  More details and the rationale are described later. While the default approach is simple, it does mean that only one database user is doing all of the work.  You can’t figure out who actually did the update and you can’t restrict SQL operations by who is running the operation, at least at the database level.   Any type of per-user logic will need to be in the application code instead of having the database do it.  There are various WLS data source features that can be configured to provide some per-user information about the operations to the database. WebLogic Data Source Security Options This table describes the features available for WebLogic data sources to configure database security credentials and a brief description.  It also captures information about the compatibility of these features with one another. Feature Description Can be used with Can’t be used with User authentication (default) Default getConnection(user, password) behavior – validate the input and use the user/password in the descriptor. Set client identifier Proxy Session, Identity pooling, Use database credentials Use database credentials Instead of using the credential mapper, use the supplied user and password directly. Set client identifier, Proxy session, Identity pooling User authentication, Multi Data Source Set Client Identifier Set a client identifier property associated with the connection (Oracle and DB2 only). Everything Proxy Session Set a light-weight proxy user associated with the connection (Oracle-only). Set client identifier, Use database credentials Identity pooling, User authentication Identity pooling Heterogeneous pool of connections owned by specified users. Set client identifier, Use database credentials Proxy session, User authentication, Labeling, Multi-datasource, Active GridLink Note that all of these features are available with both XA and non-XA drivers. Currently, the Proxy Session and Use Database Credentials options are on the Oracle tab of the Data Source Configuration tab of the administration console (even though the Use Database Credentials feature is not just for Oracle databases – oops).  The rest of the features are on the Identity tab of the Data Source Configuration tab in the administration console (plan on seeing them all in one place in the future). • Should a new programmer nowadays start with C/C++ or OOP language? [closed]

  I've been a programmer for 15+ years. In my time, we all started with C or C++ and then moved to C# or Java. At that time it was a usual practice. Now, my brother wants to follow my steps and I am not sure what advice to give him. So, I am asking the community for an opinion. Should nowadays new programmer with zero programming knowledge start with functional languages (C, C++, etc.) or he should start directly with OOP languages (Java, C#, etc.)? The reply should be considered in the context of my brother's future assignments. He will mainly work on Java mobile applications as well as ASP.NET web apps. He will have to touch with desktop apps, low level programming, drivers, etc. This is the reason I am not sure if he should ever need to learn functional languages.

• Runescape - Ubuntu 12.04 - Jaggex cache folder

  does anyone here know how to hide the jaggexcache folder, jagexappletviewer file and jagex_cl_runescape_LIVE file from the home folder? The problem is this, everytime you play runescape (in both windows or linux), it creates those files and folders. The problem is that on windows, you can hide them and everything is fine. On linux, if you add ( /.) to the folder or file to hide it, when you play runescape, those files and folders are again created, because they cannot be found. As far as I know, the game is Java based (needs java iced tea plug in and java 7), so is there any way of changing the directory where the game puts all those files? like home/documents instead of just /home thanks!

• Can not export JARS in lwjgl!

  I did it before but for some reason it's doing the stupid problem again. I want to export as a regular Jar file, not a folder full of files. I export it like in Oskar Veerhoak. cmd says Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Resource not found: res/F lubberFlap.png at org.newdawn.slick.util.ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream(ResourceLoa der.java:69) at com_FlubberSpace.MainFS.main(MainFS.java:118) I tested it out with my other project with the same code pretty much. This is how I load my Textures wood = TextureLoader.getTexture("PNG", ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream("res/wood.png")); of course it works fine in eclipse but not after export. I havn't tried giving the previous game its' own project, I have it in a package. Can someone record how to export properly? I want a jar file that you just double click to start it. I also want it so nobody can extract the files and see my classes and res.

  I am trying to help my friend by creating a part of his on-going project. What I'm going to do is create a Java parser to break up the Java code into operators, parameters etc to build XML representation. Next I want to create a code generator to convert the parsed java code to XML conforming to the schema I've created. Finally I want to use an XML style-sheet to transform the XML into another programming language type. Basically I just wanted some advice on which methodology/model I should use for planning and developing this project. Is there some benefit to using Agile etc for instance?

OracleDBConsole for this db, and iSQLPlus services are started. When I run %ORACLE_HOME%\bin\emctl status dbconsole, it says, EM Daemon is not running. How do I deal with this?

• How do I send an email with embedded images AND regular attachments in JavaMail?

  Hi, I'd like to know how to build an SMTP multipart message in the correct order so that it will render correctly on the iPhone mail client (rendering correctly in GMail). I'm using Javamail to build up an email containing the following parts: A body part with content type "text/html; UTF-8" An embedded image attachment. A file attachment I am sending the mail via GMail SMTP (via SSL) and the mail is sent and rendered correctly using a GMail account, however, the mail does not render correctly on the iPhone mail client. On the iPhone mail client, the image is rendered before the "Before Image" text when it should be rendered afterwards. After the "Before Image" text there is an icon with a question mark (I assume it means it couldn't find the referenced CID). I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the iPhone mail client or a bug in my mail sending code (I strongly assume the latter). I think that perhaps the headers on my parts might by incorrect or perhaps I am providing the multiparts in the wrong order.   Hi Everyone, I'm having difficulties in creating a connection from my SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 x64 into the Oracle database 10g even though I have already install the Oracle Client 11g R2 ? I've followed this article from steps URL: http://www.ideaexcursion.com/2009/01/05/connecting-to-oracle-from-sql-server/ plus added: TNS_ADMIN into the Server variables which point into: C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\admin what is working now: TNSNAMES.ORA has been copied successfully from the other Developer wworkstation i can TNSPING into the DB instance i can connect to the database using SQLplus and perform any SQL commands i can create the DSN ONLY when using "[b]C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe[/b]" the normal odbcad32 doesn't show my DSN that I have just created ? the DSN created from the above works fine from the test connection. my goal: To be able to select the Oracle connection in the Linked server object but still no effect after I restart the server. (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit SP2). Any idea please in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Oracle DBMS_PROFILER only shows Anonymous in the results tables

  I am new to DBMS_PROFILER. All the examples I have seen use a simple top-level procedure to demonstrate the use of the profiler, and from there get all the line numbers etc. I deploy all code in packages, and I am having great difficulty getting my profile session to populate the plsql_profiler_units with useful data. Most of my runs look like this: RUNID RUN_COMMENT UNIT_OWNER UNIT_NAME SECS PERCEN ----- ----------- ----------- -------------- ------- ------ 5 Test <anonymous> <anonymous> .00 2.1 Profiler 5 Test <anonymous> <anonymous> .00 2.1 Profiler 5 Test <anonymous> <anonymous> .00 2.1 Profiler I have just embedded the calls to the dbms_profiler.start_profiler, flush_data and stop_profiler as per all the examples. The main difference is that my code is in a package, and calls in to other package. Do you have to profile every single stored procedure in your call stack? If so that makes this tool a little useless! I have checked http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_plsql_dbms_profiler.htm for hints, among other similar sites.

• The Fantastic New WebLogic on Oracle Database Appliance 2.9 Release is Here!

  Last week was a big day in virtualised ODA-land as it saw the launch of WebLogic on ODA 2.9. Admittedly it doesn't sound like a very exciting release but it is one that we at O-box have been looking forward to for quite some time. Let me explain why, then we'll look into the details... The ODA X4-2 has 48 Intel Xeon cores. That is a lot of compute power. Whilst the largest O-box SOA Appliance single environment configuration can in theory use all those cores (currently with 40 vCPU of SOA!) the vast majority of O-box users will want smaller configurations. Prior to 2.9 the Oracle WebLogic implementation only supported one domain per ODA, so the conundrum O-box development faced last year was either: offer customers only one SOA environment on their O-box for now (but have the benefit of a standard, easily supportable WebLogic installation), or build our own WebLogic/OTD OVM templates from scratch. One of our driving goals with O-box is to give the best possible experience and make the appliance as supportable as possible. Therefore we took the gamble that we would stick with the Oracle's one-domain WebLogic configuration initially, and just hope that it would deliver multi-domain support for us in a timely manner (note: this is probably not a strategy that business textbooks would recommend!). Anyway, we've been working closely with Oracle Product Management for a few months now and I'm delighted to see 2.9 as the fruits of their labour. This also neatly ties in with several recent requests for O-box to include OSB as well as SOA/BPEL (which we have always wanted to have in separate domains). I have stripped the application down to the minimum, as shown below, to try and isolate the issue. I have included the java SE javax libraries in the java build pasth. When the android application tries to create the "service" object I get a "java.lang.noclassdeffounderror" exception. The two classes tempConvertSoap and TempConvet() are generated by wsimport. I am also using several libraries from javax.jws.. and javax.xml.ws.. Of course the application compiles without error and loads correctly. I know the application is running becouse my "try/catch" routine is successfully catching the error and printing it out. I have taken this same application and created a standard java client application and it works fine -- of course with all of the android stuff taken out. What would be a good debug strategy? What methods and techniques would you recommend I try and isolate the problem? I am thinking that there is some sort of Dalvik VM incompatibility that is causing the TempConvert class not to load. TempConvert is an interface class that references a lot of very tricky webservice attributes. Any help with debug strategies would be gladly appreciated. Thanks for the help, Steve

  My signed Java applet has been running fine until Java update 19. Now some but not all of our users on Java Update 19 report a java security message stating that our applet contains both signed and unsigned code. The process for creating our applet is as follows: 1: Clean and Build the applet project in Netbeans IDE. 2: Open the Applet jar file in WinRAR and add the required mysql JDBC driver .class files to the jar file. 3: Sign the applet jar file. Can someone please tell me how to determine what code is signed and what code is not signed in our applet? Is there a better way to include the mysql JDBC driver jar file in our applet other than copying the jar file contents into our applet jar file? Thanks

  I'm refactoring a colleague's code, and I have several cases where he's using a cursor to get "the latest row that matches some predicate": His technique is to write the join as a cursor, order it by the date field descending, open the cursor, get the first row, and close the cursor. This requires calling a cursor for each row of the result set that drives this, which is costly for many rows. I'd prefer to be able to join, but what something cheaper than a correlated subquery: select a.id_shared_by_several_rows, a.foo from audit_trail a where a.entry_date = (select max(a.entry_date) from audit_trail b where b.id_shared_by_several_rows = a.id_shared_by_several_rows ); I'm guessing that since this is a common need, there's an Oracle analytic function that does this?
