• Can parser combination be made efficient?

  Around 6 years ago, I benchmarked my own parser combinators in OCaml and found that they were ~5× slower than the parser generators on offer at the time. I recently revisited this subject and benchmarked Haskell's Parsec vs a simple hand-rolled precedence climbing parser written in F# and was surprised to find the F# to be 25× faster than the Haskell. • Python - Polymorphism in wxPython, What's wrong?

  Ok, I've been crawling google and Django documentation for over 2 hours now (as well as the IRC channel on freenode), and haven't been able to figure this one out. It shows all of the form attributes, and all of the default values are filled in (when users do a GET)... EXCEPT for the default values for the ManyToMany field 'bans'. Basically, if an admins clicks on a Room object to edit, the page they go to will show all of the Rooms default values except for the 'bans'. No matter what I do, I can't find a way to get Django to display the currently 'banned users' for the Room object. • Android custom view - setting it to take up max space available but no more

  I have a custom View class in my app that I'm using in xml layouts. Wherever I'm using this view in my xml, I don't want it to stretch it's container, but I want it to fill out whatever space is available. Here's an example to make it a little clearer. I have a LinearLayout set to horizontal orientation with my custom view followed by a TextView. The TextView is going to stretch the LinearLayout so that it takes up the space it needs and no more. I want my custom view to take up the vertical space that the TextView has made available. Let's say the TextView ends up being 50px tall because of it's contents. The LinearLayout is thus stretched to about this height (not taking into account any margins or padding), so I just want the view to know it can stretch to that height and not "push on" its container. Without overriding and of the measurement methods of the base class (onMeasure, etc) my View is actually stretching to take up as much space as possible. I have already played around with wrap_content and fill_parent a bunch, so I'm assuming I need to do something in one of the View class' measure methods.

• Every subsequent call to an Axis webservice fails

  I've been having a strange issue with an Axis webservice which is called through the https protocol. Basically, when an invocation is made, the call goes through just fine. • Recommendations of a high volume log event viewer in a Java enviroment

  I am in a situation where I would like to accept a LOT of log events controlled by me - notably the logging agent I am preparing for slf4j - and then analyze them interactively. I am not as such interested in a facility that presents formatted log files, but one that can accept log events as objects and allow me to sort and display on e.g. threads and timelines etc. Chainsaw could maybe be an option but is currently not compatible with logback which I use for technical reasons. Is there any project with stand alone viewers or embedded in an IDE which would be suitable for this kind of log handling. I am aware that I am approaching what might be suitable for a profiler, so if there is a profiler projekt suitable for this kind of data acquisition and display where I can feed the event pipe, I would like to hear about it). Thanks for all feedback Update 2009-03-19: I have found that there is not a log viewer which allows me to see what I would like (a visual display of events with coordinates determined by day and time, etc), so I have decided to create a very terse XML format derived from the log4j XMLLayout adapted to be as readable as possible while still being valid XML-snippets, and then use the Microsoft LogParser to extract the information I need for postprocessing in other tools.

• What is likely cause of Android runtime exception "No suitable Log implementation" related to loggin

  I am creating an Android app that includes a third party jar. That third party jar utilizes internal logging that is failing to initialize when I run the app, with this error: "org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: No suitable Log implementation". The 3rd party jar appears to be using org.apache.commons.logging and to depend on log4j, specifically log4j-1.2.14.jar. I have packaged the log4j jar into the Android app. The third party jar was packaged with a log4j.xml configuration file, which I have tried packaging into the app as an XML resource (and also as a raw resource). The "No suitable Log implementation" error message is not very descriptive, and I have no immediate familiarity with Java logging. So I am looking for likely causes of the problem (what class or configuration resources might I be missing?) or for some debugging technique that will result in a different error message that is more explicit about the problem. I do not have access to source code for the 3rd party jar. Here is the exception stack trace. When I run the app, I get the following exception as soon as one of the third party jar classes attempts to initialize its internal logging. On Android 1.6 however everything works fine - PopupWindowStyle works like it was before it's integer value has changed. I was testing this issue, by reverting the source code to older revisions. I can confirm, that this problem started occurring after src code commit, which changed two files completely unrelated to this part of code - and an autogenerated R.java file.   I am trying to return values from subprocesses but these values are unfortunately unpicklable. So I used global variables in threads module with success but have not been able to retrieve updates done in subprocesses when using multiprocessing module. I hope I'm missing something. I know what I could use the Magento API to import all the prices from our existing database, but our pricing changes very often, and we would then need to maintain two databases. • java logging nightmare and log4j not behaving as expected with spring + tomcat6

  I have a spring application that has configured log4j (via xml) and that runs on Tomcat6 that was working fine until we add a bunch of dependencies via Maven. At some point the whole application just started logging part of what it was supposed to be declared into the log4.xml "a small rant here" Why logging has to be that hard in java world? why suddenly an application that was just fine start behaving so weird and why it's so freaking hard to debug? I've been reading and trying to solve this issue for days but so far no luck, hopefully some expert here can give me some insights on this I've added log4j debug option to check whether log4j is taking reading the config file and its values and this is what part of it shows log4j: Level value for org.springframework.web is [debug]. log4j: org.springframework.web level set to DEBUG log4j: Retreiving an instance of org.apache.log4j.Logger. log4j: Setting [org.compass] additivity to [true]. log4j: Level value for org.compass is [debug]. log4j: org.compass level set to DEBUG As you can see debug is enabled for compass and spring.web but it only shows "INFO" level for both packages. My log4j config file has nothing out of extraordinary just a plain ConsoleAppender <log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/"> <!-- Appenders --> <appender name="console" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender"> <param name="Target" value="System.out" /> <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"> <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%-5p: %c - %m%n" /> </layout> </appender> What's the trick to make this work?   I'm trying to get all the input elements from a certain form from jQuery by providing only the name of the form and only knowing that those wanted fields are input elements. Let's say: <form action='#' id='formId'> <input id='name' /> <input id='surname'/> </form> How do I access them individually with jQuery? I tried something like $('#formId > input') with no success, in fact an error came back on the console "XML filter is applied to non-XML value (function (a, b) {return new (c.fn.init)(a, b);})" Maybe I have to do it with .children or something like that? I'm pretty new at jQuery and I'm not really liking the Docs. It was much friendlier in Mootools, or maybe I just need to get used to it. Oh and last but not least, I've seen it asked before but no final answer, can I create a new dom element with jQuery and work with it before inserting it (if I ever do) into de code? In mootools, we had something like var myEl = new Element(element[, properties]); and you could then refer to it in further expressions, but I fail to understand how to do that on jQuery Thanks in advance.

Views Layer This layer will be responsible for the users interface. This layer will always use the Controls Layer to create and edit objects; Control Layer This is my persistence layer, here Ill have all the NHibernate configuration. This is my critic point, because ListSingleton Project will have only my RemoteObject. (Here I have the App.config file) Models Layer Entity layer. Here I only have the entities classes and their respective mapping. I’ve done a test solution with no remoting and only with the projects of the Control and Model Layers. It was all working ok.
