• VB.NET handling data between different forms

  Hi, I'm writing a simple application - address book. User enters new addresses and they are added as an entry to a list visible on the main form (frmStart). I use one form to add and edit (AddContForm). Add button on the frmStart works fine, however I experience some problems with the edit button as when I press it and enter new data they are added as new entry however the previous entry is still there. Logic is handled by Contact.vb class. Please let me know how to fix this problem.   right now I am working on a tool that does a lot of work via the Process object through the command line. So there are times when I want the command window to not show up and times when I want it to stay open so that the user can see what happened, possibly respond with the appropriate input.   I've got a console app and i need to globalize some of the hardcoded message strings. I've got two assemblies: MyProgram.Console (Console app) MyProgram.Core (class lib) In MyProgram.Core I've made a Language.en-GB.resx and set it as an Embedded Resource. In the resource I've created a key/value pair: "SomeKey" : "SomeValue" When I build my application I get: bin/MyProgram.Console.exe bin/MyProgram.Core.dll bin/en-BG/MyProgram.Core.resources.dll How do I address these resource key/values? Currently I'm trying this from a class within MyProgram.Core: var mgr = new ResourceManager(GetType().Assembly.GetName().Name, Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); mgr.GetString("SomeKey", new Culture("en-GB")); But I keep getting: System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "MyProgram.Core.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "MyProgram.Core" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. What am I doing wrong? I've tried every combination I can think of for the baseName argument to the ResourceManagers ctor. Thanks

• window.location.href not working in Safari when using onkeypress

  I'm using an asp textbox and a search button. In Safari if I click the search button i get redirected to the search results page using javascript window.location.href. But strangely the same javascript will not redirect to the page if I press return in the textbox. Using the alert function I can see that window.location.href has the the correct url and the location bar at the top changes from the search page(default.aspx) to the search results url however when I click OK to the alert box the url at the top reverts back to the default.aspx page. It works on ie7/8/firefox/chrome but not safari.   Hey guys, Perhaps I'm missing something real simple here, but I've been struggling to change the RTF property of my RichTextBox in order to apply some color coding to my text. Probably the most straight-forward example of the problem I'm having is setting the Rtf property to include a color table in its header. The default RTF string returned by the Rtf property: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And the new RTF string I'd like to set with my color table: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}{\colortbl;\red128\green0\blue0;\red0\green128\blue0;\red0\green0\blue255;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And I set this using: RichTextBox richTextBox = new RichTextBox(); richTextBox.Rtf = rtfStr; // My new RTF string, as seen above. However, via debugger, it can be observed the that Rtf property stubbornly refuses to change; no exceptions are thrown, it just refuses to change. Same issue happens when I string.Replace() words to include RTF color tags around them. I've also tried turning off any ReadOnly properties on the text box.   Hello, My exe processes text documents and I want to be able to right click on documents, select open with and point to my exe file. I can double click on my exe and choose a file to process with OpenFileDialog and it works fine. However, when I do open with, I get FileNotFound error. I'd like to compile a list/catalog of good questions, a kind of minimum standard to see if the applicants are experienced. So, my question is: What questions do you think should a good .NET programmer be able to respond? • Deployment Setup (.Net) - Search target machine -> Registry search (64 bit)

  I have a windows installer project which installs some software (winform, service, mce addin). During the installation I need to search the machine for a registry key. This is done with with the "Launch Condition" - "Add Registry Search" (Deployment Project). I have filled out all the properties right, and checked against the regestry that the value actually can be found. The problem is that the "Registry Search" searches in the x86 part of the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\...) although my system is a x64 and the deployment setup is also set to x64. Does anyone know how to force the "Registry Search" to search the x64 registry? Or know about a workaround? The weird thing about this, is that Registry setting in the deployment setup is writing to the right registry (x64). My idea is that the "Registry Search" program is only developed to the x86 architecture, and therefore can't read the right registry. Unfortunately it seems CRM's IIS configuration has the magic ability to capture this error before it ever gets back to my code. Using the debugger I never see it. It never gets to my catch blocks, but it's clearly happening in the SQL Data Source which is clearly (by the stack trace) being triggered by my GridView bind. Any ideas on this? It's driving me crazy. I download a file and write the contents directly to the DB (3 min). If the write to DB fails I'll have to download again in the second case, but not in the first case. Which is best?   I am writing a program that needs to read a set of records that describe the register map of a device I need to communicate with. Each record will have a handfull of fields that describe the properties of each register. I don't really need to edit or modify the data in my VB or C# program, though I would like to be able to display the data on a grid. I would like to store the data in a CSV file, or perhaps an XML file. I need to enable users to edit the data off-line, preferably in excel. I am considering using a DataTable or a Collection of "Register" objects (which I would define). I prototyped a DataTable, and found I can read/write XML easily using the built in methods and I can easily bind to a DataGridView. I was not able to find a way to retreive info on a single register without using a query that returns a collection of rows, even though I defined a unique primaty key column. The syntax to get a value from a column is also complex, though I could be missing something on both counts. I'm tempted to use a collection of "Register" objects that I can access via a unique key. It would be a little more coding up front, but seems like a cleaner solution overall. I should still be able to use LINQ to dataset to query subsets of registers when I need them, but would also be able to grab a single field using a the key value, something like this: Registers(keyValue).fieldName). Which would be a cleaner approach to the problem? Is there a way to read/write XML into a Collection without needing custom code? Could this be accomplished using String for a key?

  Hi all I'm using the following method to create an attachment from a MemoryStream: public void AddAttachment(Stream stream, string filename, string mimeType) { byte[] buffer = ((MemoryStream) stream).GetBuffer(); Attachment attachment = new Attachment(stream, filename, mimeType); _mail.Attachments.Add(attachment); } Note that the first line is not necessary isn't necessary for the attachment functionality, it's just useful to have the byte[] handy during debugging so that I can see how big it is. (It generally has around 80,000 elements.) The code runs fine and the email is sent. When Outlook receives the email, in the Inbox it displays the attachment symbol, but when you go into the email the attachment isn't there. Unfortunately I don't have access to the mail server to find out more about the email, e.g. what the attachment looks like, its size etc. Can anyone suggest what properties of the MemoryStream argument might tell me if it is in some way invalid for attachment? Or think of anything else I might try? Thank you. David
