This was working fine, but it doesn't seem to able to match over multiple lines any more. For example the pattern 31 31 32 32 33 31 runs over multiple lines, and the regular expression doesn't seem to catch it. I tried using /m /s pattern modifiers to ignore new lines but they didn't match it either. The only way around it I can come up with, is to read the whole file into a string using: undef $/; my $whole_file = <FH>; my $line = $whole_file; $line =~ s/(00 00 00 64)/<incr4> /g; $line =~ s/(00 00 00 65)/<incr4> /g; $line =~ s/(30 30 30 30 30 32)/<incr6ascii:999999:0>/g; $line =~ s/(31 31 32 32 33 31)/<incr6ascii:999999:0>/g; print OUTPUT $line; This works, the tags get inserted correctly, but the structure of the file is radically altered. • Unable to connect SQL Server instance from Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0

  I am getting the below error from VS on an 32-bit XP Professional server even though I set Tools-Options-Database Tools-Data Connections to "SIDEKICK", which is the name of my computer. In other words SIDEKICK should default to the full SQLSERVER. In other words, I want VS to use SQLSERVER instead of SQLSERVER EXPRESS. And I can clearly see my database both from VS in the Server Explorer and also in SSMS 2008. Furthermore, I can view the tables of this database in Server Explorer from VS. I do not get any build errors. And it looks like all of the naming is consistent in my web.config file. I am developing my website according to a Microsoft tutorial, so I should not be getting an error. • .NET Programmatically invoke screenclick doesn't work?

  I'm trying to programmatically invoke an onclick event however the click is not received/handled. Am I missing something, or is security preventing the click to be executed? I have a forms application which is invisible. Basically I would like to say: DoDoubleClick(wait, x, y) This should raise two click (mousedown+mouseup) events on screen with the specified wait interval. However the click isn't received in a Flash application in Firefox (which is running at that moment). • Lightweight use of Enterprise Library TraceListeners

  Is it possible to use the Enterprise Library 4.1 TraceListeners without using the entire Enterprise Library Logging AB? I'd prefer to simply use .NET Diagnostics Tracing, but would like to setup a listener that sends emails on Error events. I figured I could use the Enterprise Library EmailTraceListener. However, my initial attempts to configure it have failed. So, is it possible to use the Ent Lib TraceListeners, without using the whole Ent Lib LAB, and configure them from the config file? Update: After examining the code, I have discovered it is not possible. The Ent Lib TraceListeners do not actually utilize the config attributes they specify in overriding TraceListener.GetSupportedAttributes(), despite the recommendations in the .NET TraceListener documentation.   I have three simplified models: class Team < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :players has_one :coach end class Player < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :team validates_presence_of :team_id end class Coach < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :team validates_presence_of :team_id end I use the following code to test these models: t = Team.new team.coach = Coach.new team.save! team.save! returns true. But on the other hand, team is saved before coach.save!, otherwise the first example will get the same error as the second. So I've concluded that when a has_many bs, a.save! will save bs prior to a. When a has_one b, a.save! will save a prior to b. If I am right, why is this the case? It doesn't seem logical to me. Why has_one and has_many association have different order in saving? Any ideas? The code below is taken from http://github.com/jfahrenkrug/CappuccinoLocations1 What I need to do is: I need a landing main menu which is a CPView called ie MainView with five or so buttons, when you click on the LocationButton on MainView is replaces MainView by with LocationView, which displays the contents of jfahrenkrug's work. A similar effect will happen with each other button. • Rendering a Long Document on iPad

  I'm implementing a document viewer with highlighting/annotation capabilities for a custom document format on iPad. The documents are kind of long (100 to 200 pages, if printed on paper) and I've had a hard time finding the right approach. Here are the requirments: 1) Basic rich-text styling: control of left/right margins. Control of font name, size, foreground/background color, and line spacing. Bold, italics, underline, etc. 2) Selection and highlighting of arbitrary text regions (not limited to paragraph boundaries, like in Safari/UIWebView). 3) Customization of the Cut/Copy/Paste popup (what is that thing called anyhow? UIActionBar?) This is one of the essential requirements of the app. My first implementation was based on UIWebView. I just rendered the document as HTML with CSS for text styling. But I couldn't get the kind of text selection behavior I wanted (across paragraph boundaries) and the UIActionBar can't be customized from within UIWebView. So I started working on a javascript approach, faking the device text-selection behavior using JQuery to trap touch events and dynamically modifying the DOM to change the background color of selected regions of text. I built a fake UIActionBar control as a hidden DIV, positioning it and unhiding it whenever there was an active selection region. Not too shabby. The main problem is that it's SLOOOOOOOW. Scrolling through the document is nice and quick, but dynamically changing the DOM is not very snappy. Plus, I couldn't figure out how to recreate the magnifier loupe, so my fake text-selection GUI doesn't look quite the same as the native implementation. Also, I haven't yet implemented the communication bridge between the javascript layer and the objective-c layer (where the rest of the app lives), but it was shaping up to be a huge hassle. So I've been looking at CoreText, but there are precious few examples on the web. I spent a little time with this simple little demo: http://github.com/jonasschnelli/I7CoreTextExample/ It shows how to use CoreText to draw an NSAttributedText string into a UIView. But it has its own problems: It doesn't implement text-selection behavior, and it doesn't present a UIActionBar, so I don't have any idea how to make that happen. And, more importantly, it tries to draw the entire document all at once, with significant performance degradations for long documents. My documents can have thousands of paragraphs, and less than 1% of the document is ever on screen at a time. On the plus side, these documents already contain precise formatting information. I know the exact page-position of every line of text, so I don't need a layout engine. Does anyone know how to implement this sort of view using CoreText? I understand that a full-fledged implementation is overkill for a question like this, but I'm looking for a good CoreText example with a few basic requirements: 1) Precise layout & formatting control (using the formatting metrics and text styles I've already calculated). 2) Arbitrary selection of text. 3) Customization of the UIActionBar. 4) Efficient recycling of resources for off-screen objects. I'd be happy to implement my own recycling when text elements scroll off-screen, but wouldn't that require re-implementing UIScrollView? I'm brand-new to iPhone development, and still getting used to Objective-C, but I've been working in other languages (Java, C#, flex/actionscript, etc) for more than ten years, so I feel confident in my ability to get the work done, if only I had a better feel for the iPhone SDK and the common coding patterns for stuff like this. Is it just me, or does the SDK documentation really suck? Anyhow, thanks for your help!

• Is there any way to access the mp3 or other file type tags from within an ipod touch/iphone?

  I am just looking for an existing app that will let me read all the tags that are stored in a particular song on my ipod touch/iphone. I'm not much of a programmer, but would be willing to learn the iphone sdk (on windows) if I could build a program that would do this for me. I would love to be able to modify the tag while on the iphone, but just viewing them would be a great use to me. I'd like to read the Year tag, the comments tag, composer, etc. It's so annoying that I can't do this. Or can I already and I just don't know how. Yes, I know how to view the lyrics tag. • SVN Server not responding

  I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here? • Windows 7 Not Booting After Moving Partition

  I have a Sony Vaio laptop. After using GParted to move the primary Windows partion, the laptop no longer boots, saying 'Operating system not found'. I don't have a recovery disc and the only other machine I have access to is a Mac Mini. I have tried creating a bootable USB using the recovery ISO from Microsoft. I can see all the files on the USB stick from my Mac. I followed the instructions here: http://borgstrom.ca/2010/10/14/os-x-bootable-usb.html I have set the laptop BIOS boot order to be 'External' first, but the laptop refuses to boot from the USB stick. I have previously been able to boot from a linux installation on the USB stick. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

No single item matches all of the last item's child elements - but because each element's value is individually present in another item, the last item gets excluded. I could get the correct result by comparing all child values as a concatenated string to the same concatenated values for each preceding item. Does anybody know of a way I could do this?

  Hi, i have ESXi 4.0 installed so i want to install all patch bundles available using vihostupdate.pl script from vm perl sdk. I can install it by typing: vihostupdate.pl -server 192.168.1.177 -b "C:\Documents and Settings\dawids\Pulpit\patche\ESXi-4.0.0-update01.zip" -i then patch 2,3 etc. But I would like to install them all at once, is there such possibility? Maybe there is possible to use vihostupdate patch1 then vihostupdate patch2... and after all patching reboot instead rebooting after 1 patch bundle. How is it working?

• Commercial NAS RAID1 disks moved to Software Raid system?

  I've got a couple of commercial NAS boxes and I'm wondering if they (ReadyNas duo, DLink DNS-323) or any other NAS is suitable for having their RAIDed disks moved to a software-based NAS. To be specific, I'm a big fan of the (largely) Debian-based Ubuntu. Can the aforementioned NAS drives be migrated to Ubuntu (e.g. using the mdadm Linux command)? Secondly, is there any commercial NAS that can be migrated over? • Does this sound like a stack overflow?

  I think I might be having a stack overflow problem or something similar in my embedded firmware code. I am a new programmer and have never dealt with a SO so I'm not sure if that is what's happening or not. The firmware controls a device with a wheel that has magnets evenly spaced around it and the board has a hall effect sensor that senses when magnet is over it. My firmware operates the stepper and also count steps while monitoring the magnet sensor in order to detect if the wheel has stalled. I am using a timer interrupt on my chip (8 bit, 8057 acrh.) to set output ports to control the motor and for the stall detection. So I want to detect if the wheel gets stuck either with the sensor over a magnet or not over a magnet. This works great for a long time but then after a while the first stall event will occur because 'StallDetector (MagnetSize + 10)' but when I look at the value of StallDetector it is always around 220! This doesn't make sense because MagnetSize is always around 35. So the stall event should have been triggered at like 46 but somehow it got all the way up to 220? And I don't set the value of stall detector anywhere else in my code. Do you have any advice on how I can track down the root of this problem? • Can you run Android 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread in a VM?

  I came across a how-to guide for running Android 1.7 in a virtual machine (VirtualBox), but 1.7 is old. I haven't been able to find a Android 2.2 or 2.3 image anywhere, does anyone have any ideas on how to virtualize newer Android OS's? Preferably a free virtualization solution like VirtualBox.   I'm currently running a vsftpd server and I added the necessary configurations in vsftpd.conf so that local users can use clients like FileZilla to manage their homes in a server. Safari: Safari can't open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection Chrome: Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset Firefox: The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The problem might have been caused by DNS/cache and so on, so I tried the following but to no avail: Deleted cache/DNS Created a dummy user account on my Mac Reinstalled the OS (through the Internet and all my settings remain intact) Do you have any suggestions other than a fresh reinstallation of my Mac?

• Modern alternatives to Java

  I have been a Java developer for 14 years and have written an enterprise-level (~500 kloc) Swing application that uses most of the standard library APIs. Recently, I have become disappointed with the progress that the language has made to "modernize" itself, and am looking for an alternative for ongoing development. I have considered moving to the .NET platform, but I have issues with using something the only runs well in Windows (I know about Mono, but that is still far behind Microsoft). I also plan on buying a new Macbook Pro as soon as Apple releases their new rumored Arrandale-based machines and want to develop in an environment that will feel "at home" in Unix/Linux. I have considered using Python or Ruby, but the standard Java library is arguably the largest of any modern language. In JVM-based languages, I looked at Groovy, but am disappointed with its performance. Rumor has it that with the soon-to-be released JDK7, with its InvokeDynamic instruction, this will improve, but I don't know how much. Groovy is also not truly a functional language, although it provides closures and some of the "functional" features on collections. It does not embrace immutability. I have narrowed my search down to two JVM-based alternatives: Scala and Clojure. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. I am looking for opinions. I am not an expert at either of these languages; I have read 2 1/2 books on Scala and am currently reading Stu Halloway's book on Clojure. Scala is strongly statically typed. I know the dynamic language folks claim that static typing is a crutch for not doing unit testing, but it does provide a mechanism for compile-time location of a whole class of errors. Scala is more concise than Java, but not as much as Clojure. Scala's inter-operation with Java seems to be better than Clojure's, in that most Java operations are easier to do in Scala than in Clojure. For example, I can find no way in Clojure to create a non-static initialization block in a class derived from a Java superclass. For example, I like the Apache commons CLI library for command line argument parsing. In Java and Scala, I can create a new Options object and add Option items to it in an initialization block as follows (Java code): final Options options = new Options() { { addOption(new Option("?", "help", false, "Show this usage information"); // other options } }; I can't figure out how to the same thing in Clojure (except by using (doit...)), although that may reflect my lack of knowledge of the language. Clojure's collections are optimized for immutability. They rarely require copy-on-write semantics. I don't know if Scala's immutable collections are implemented using similar algorithms, but Rich Hickey (Clojure's inventor) goes out of his way to explain how that language's data structures are efficient. Clojure was designed from the beginning for concurrency (as was Scala) and with modern multi-core processors, concurrency takes on more importance, but I occasionally need to write simple non-concurrent utilities, and Scala code probably runs a little faster for these applications since it discourages, but does not prohibit, "simple" mutability. One could argue that one-off utilities do not have to be super-fast, but sometimes they do tasks that take hours or days to complete. I know that there is no right answer to this "question", but I thought I would open it up for discussion. Are there other JVM-based languages that can be used for enterprise level development?

• Internet Explorer 9 auto "feeling lucky" for gmail bing search

  When Im at school and using school computers, i have to use has IE9. When I want to access my gmail, I type in "gmail" in the URL bar, and thus IE9 does a bing search. The page half loads (As in, loads just about every thing but the search results) and then opens my gmail, kinda like google's "i'm feeling lucky". My question is this: Why? IE9 doesn't have the URL of gmail, as i can watch the bing search load, and then the url changes to gmail, and it only happens for Gmail, having tired with searching Google and Facebook in the same method. The computer is running Windows 7 with Windows Aero disabled, and limited account privileges. While its a cool thing, I would like to known what causes it to happen. Thanks

• openldap proxied authorization

  I'm having some trouble doing updates with proxied authorization (searches seem to work fine). I'm using UnboundID's LDAP SDK to connect to OpenLDAP, and sending a ProxiedAuthorizationV2RequestControl for dn: uid=me,dc=People,dc=example,dc=com with the update. I've tested and verified that the target user has permission to perform the operation, but I get insufficient access rights when I try to do it via proxy auth. I've configured olcAuthzPolicy=both in cn=config and authzTo={0}ldap:///dc=people,dc=example,dc=com??subordinate?(objectClass=inetOrgPerson) on the original user. The authzTo seems to be working; when I change it I get not authorized to assume identity when I try the update (also for searches). Can anyone suggest what else I should look at or how I could get more detailed errors from OpenLDAP? Anything else I can test to narrow down the source of the problem?
