• Start Activity with an animation

  I am trying to start an activity with a custom transition animation. The only way I have found out so far to do this (without using onPendingTransition() in the previous activity) is to use a custom theme on the activity and define either activityOpenEnterAnimation, taskOpenEnterAnimation, windowEnterAnimation or windowAnimationStyle to set the animation. But, none of these attributes are working for me. Some experimentation yielded the following results- If I set the windowAnimationStyle attribute to some custom style which defines values for activityOpenEnterAnimation, taskOpenEnterAnimation, windowEnterAnimation or windowAnimationStyle I can get rid of the default transition animation occurring at the start of the activity. It doesn't show the transition animation using the actual value specified but at least the default animation is not shown. According to the reference doc here, http://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.attr.html I should be able to define an animation at the start of the activity using activityOpenEnterAnimation. But no success so far. Any ideas?

• Updates to NSDictionary attribute in CoreData not saving

  I have created an Entity in CoreData that includes a Transformable attribute type implemented as an NSDictionary. The NSDictionary attribute only contains values of a custom class. The properties of the custom class are all of type NSString. The custom class complies with NSCoding implementing: -(void)encodeWithCoder:(NSCoder*)coder; -(id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)coder When saving the Entity for the first time all attributes including the Transformable (NSDictionary) type are properly saved in the DB. When the same Entity is fetched from the DB and updated (including the Transformable attribute) it seems to be updated properly. However, when the app is closed and then reopened fetching the Entity does not show the updated Transformable attribute-type though the rest of the attributes of type NSDate and NSString are up-to-date. The Transformable attribute is the original saved value not the updated value. Is this a problem with KVO or am I missing something else when trying to save an NSDictionary filled with a custom class to CoreData?

• Displaying images in a console application?!

  I have a console application which screen scrapes some data, and now I need to do image comparisons. If the images are different, I want to show the images to the user. What's the best way to display two images during the execution of a console application? I'm assuming I would use some sort of inter-process communication to send information back and forth, but I'm not sure how exactly I would go about doing that in a good fashion. Also, I'd rather NOT store the images to files if possible. There's no reason to persist the data, and if the console application terminates unexpectedly, it's better if I don't have any dirt left on the file system. Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to accomplish this?

  Songs on Rap Genius have paths like /lyrics/The-notorious-b-i-g-ft-mase-and-puff-daddy/Mo-money-mo-problems which are defined in routes.rb as: map.song '/lyrics/:artist_slug/:title_slug', :controller => 'songs', :action => 'show' When I want to generate such a path, I use song_url(:title_slug => song.title_slug, :artist_slug => song.artist_slug). However, I'd much prefer to be able to type song_url(some_song). Is there a way I can make this happen besides defining a helper like: def x_song_path(song) song_path(:title_slug => song.title_slug, :artist_slug => song.artist_slug) end

• Progressive Enhancement with box-shadow

  I would like to use WebKit's box-shadow css property for a little drop-down. The code would look like: .drop_down{ -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px #888; box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px #888; } However, for browsers that do not have this capability, I would like to use borders to approximate this drop shadow, like so: .drop_down{ border-top: 1px solid #bbb; border-left: 1px solid #bbb; border-right: 2px solid #bbb; border-bottom: 2px solid #bbb; } The problem is, I don't want the border-based shadow to show up for the browsers that DO support box-shadow. I would like to avoid browser sniffing because I assume it's hard to cover all the cases. What is the simplest way to do this? I prefer a javascript-less solution, but I will consider simple javascript-based ones too.

  I've tried multiple times to create a web browser with tabbed browsing. I know that I have to use "tab control". I have succeeded in creating a semi-tabbed browsing. People are able to add new tabs, but the webbrowser component only appears in one tab page. • VIM: created syntax not showing up?

  HI people I recently changed to VIM for coding in C. I'd like to hightlight the operators +-<=& ... etc I searched in google how should i do it, and i found the answer in this website: I was suppose to do something like: syntax match Operadores /[][><()&!|+*={}-]/ hi Operadores guifg=#000000 gui=BOLD Those characters were supposed to appear as black, bold characters. However, that doesn't happen when I open my .C files. However, if I create a newfile, (where there the C syntax doesn't show up), I am able to see the black, bolded operators. How can i correct this situation, and why is this happening (it seams like if my syntax is beeing overwrided by the C syntax). I'm using gvim, and this is my vimrc: colorscheme nicotine set smartindent set number set guifont=Inconsolata\ Medium\ 11 set numberwidth=5 noremap j jzz noremap k kzz Thanks, any help is appreciated. • [JS] XMLHttpRequest problem

  I am trying to do "POST" with XMLHttpRequest in a firefox extension, and after that I try to get the "Location" header and open it in a new tab. For some reason, the XMLHttpRequest doesn't contain a location header. My code function web(url,request) { var http = new XMLHttpRequest(); http.open('POST',url,true); http.setRequestHeader('Content-Type','application/x-www-form-urlencoded'); http.onreadystatechange=function() { if(http.readyState == 2) { alert(http.getResponseHeader("Location")); } } http.send(request); } Also, if I change the alert to getAllResponseHeaders() to see all headers, I just don't see the location header there. If I try to spy on the request of the original site with Firebug, it does show me the location header in the response. Please help me resolve my issues. Thanks :) P.S. I'm also unable to open a link in new tab using window.open(url, this.window.title);, but as that's not directly related to the rest of this I'll post a separate question to ask about it.

• dojo datagrid will make the page "jump" when sorting is changed

  Hi, I have a Dojo Datagrid in one of my pages (which contains more content) and the following problem occurs: As soon as I click on a column header to change the sorting, the page will jump up as if I clicked on some HTML-anchor. Funny enough, the page jump will make the grid show only the first two rows after it jumped, instead of (e.g.) have the grid start at the top of the page after the jump, which is the expected behaviour if an anchor is used. The problem occurs in different browsers (tested: Firefox 3.6, Opera 10, IE6), so I guess it might be a Dojo-problem/-bug. Any ideas to make this annoying behaviour stop?   I would like the user to select the time in javascript and to avoid selecting the wrong time. How should i do it? Is there some kind of javascript or jquery widget? or should i show the format and allow users to write it in (and i guess check it with regex)? i think these should be valid 1 (1s) 1:5 (1m 5s) 1.5 (1s, 500 milliseconds. not to be confused by the above) 1:2:02 (1h, 2m, 2 seconds) 1:2:2 (1h, 2m, 2 seconds) 1:2:20 (1h, 2m, 20 seconds) I dont want the user to be confused. How can i avoid this?

  There is an existing app in MOSS, which allows to create polls for a call center, operators fill them out as they call targeted customers. Then this Web app outputs the results of this poll. Is it possible to change the interface language of this existing web app? Operators don't understand English. If it's not about language packs, it would still be easier for me to embed new names and labels, rather than rewrite in a system I am not familiar with. Also, is it possible to change the authentication type from Windows authentication to regular username/password check (username and password will be stored in DB or somewhere only for this site) If it is possible, can you direct me to some kind of tutorial, help or manual which would show how to do it? On MSDN it's written that language can't be changed, but I'm not sure whether it's about the Web app language. Thank you.

• Ways to polling server status

  Hi guys, I am try to create a JSP page that will show all the status in a group of local servers. Currently I create a schedule class that will constantly poll to check the status of the server with 30 second interval, with 5 second delay to wait for each server reply, and provide the JSP page with the information. However I find this way to be not accurate as it will take some time before the information of the schedule class to be updated. Do you guys have a better way to check the status of several server within a local network?

  Hi, I have a map with about 80 annotations. I would like to do 3 things. 1) From my current location, I would like to know the actual route distance to that position. Not the linear distance. 2) I want to be able to show a list of all the annotations, but for every annotation (having lon/lat) I would like to know the actual route distance from my position to that position. 3) I would like to know the closest annotation to my possition using route distance. Not linear distance. I think the answer to all these three points will be the same. But please keep in mind that I don't want to create a route, I just want to know the distance to the annotation.   I would like to schedule a batch job in which a can execute a move of data between two workspace application in Hyperion Fusion Edition for Oracle. The tool provided is called 'Data Synchronization' This tool allows for this type if activity to occur upon request via the workspace environment. How might I do this automatically? I noticed there is a Batch Scheduler for which I can request command line batch file to run at a pre-specified time. However, I do not know what resources are available to show me how to do this for the Data-Synchronizations.

• rdoc and the "--accessor" option

  rdoc --help says: --accessor, -A accessorname[,..] comma separated list of additional class methods that should be treated like 'attr_reader' and friends. Option may be repeated. Each accessorname may have '=text' appended, in which case that text appears where the r/w/rw appears for normal accessors. Does anyone have any working examples of doing this (both the accessor method definition and the rdoc command invocation)? No matter what combination I try, my accessors will not show up in the RDoc output. Thanks.

  I'm trying to develop a simple application that will read some files, targeted for Windows CE. For this I'm using Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 3. This program(that is for console) will be called like this: /Storage Card/Test coms file.cmss As you can see, file.cmss is the first argument, but on my main I have a condition to show the help(the normal, how to use the program) if the arguments are smaller than 2: if(argc < 2) { showhelp(); return 0; } But when I execute the program on the command-line of Windows CE(using all the necessary arguments) I got the showHelp() content. Then I've checked all the code, but it's entirelly correct. But I think that eVC++ don't use argc and argv[] for arguments, then I want some help on how to determine the arguments on it.
