I want 4 general RegEx expressions for the following 4 basic cases: Up to A chars starting after B chars from start of line on up to C lines starting after D lines from start of file Up to A chars starting after B chars from start of line on up to C lines occurring before D lines from end of file Up to A chars starting before B chars from end of line on up to C lines starting after D lines from start of file Up to A chars starting before B chars from end of line on up to C lines starting before D lines from end of file These would allow to select arbitrary text blocks anywhere in the file. So far I have managed to come up with cases that only work for lines and chars separately: (?<=(?m:^[^\r]{N}))[^\r]{1,M} = UP TO M chars OF EVERY LINE, AFTER FIRST N chars [^\r]{1,M}(?=(?m:.{N}\r$)) = UP TO M chars OF EVERY LINE, BEFORE LAST N chars The above 2 expressions are for chars, and they return MANY matches (one for each line). (?<=(\A([^\r]*\r\n){N}))(?m:\n*[^\r]*\r$){1,M} = UP TO M lines AFTER FIRST N lines (((?=\r?)\n[^\r]*\r)|((?=\r?)\n[^\r]+\r?)){1,M}(?=((\n[^\r]*\r)|(\n[^\r]+\r?)){N}\Z) = UP TO M lines BEFORE LAST N lines from end These 2 expressions are equivalents for the lines, but they always return just ONE match.     Our globalization mechanism stores error messages in a SQL 2005 DB. Some of the error messages are used as subjects on email messages sent to the development team.   • .net difference between right shift and left shift keys

    I am currently working on an application which requires different behaviour based on whether the user presses the right or left shift key (RShiftKey, LShiftKey), however when either of these keys is pressed I only see ShiftKey | Shift. Is there something wrong with my keyboard? (laptop) do I need a new keyboard driver/keyboard in order to send the different key commands maybe... This is a pretty massive problem at the moment, as there is no way of testing that the code works (apart from unit tests). Anyone had any experience of the different shift/alt/ctrl keys?

    Hello I'm having problems sending arrays, structs and arrays of structs from PHP to an ASP.NET SOAP server... Anyone have a sollution for this? I've googled for days and any sollution worked for me. Perphaps I'm forgetting something... There are examples of my code: $client = new SoapClient($options); $pCriteria = new stdClass(); $pCriteria->type=1; $pCriteria->capacity=4; //Test 1 (fail): $resp = $client->GetRooms(array("pCriteria"=>$pCriteria)); //Test 2 (fail): $resp = $client->GetRooms(array("pCriteria"=>new SoapVar($pCriteria, SOAP_ENC_OBJECT, "TCriteria", "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"))); print_r($resp); I don't know how to code functions that require an array of TCriteria (TCriteria[], TCriteria_Array type) either... i've tried sending the raw array, a SoapVar with SOAP_ENC_ARRAY encoding and TCriteria_Array type, ... but it does not work (the SOAP server becomes unavaiable and needs to be restarted). I've tried creating classes for the complex types too, instead of stdClass, but not working. I don't know where's the problem. The server admins cannot help me and I haven't found any sollution over internet. I'm a bit desperate hehe. Can you help me please? Can you provide samples of code with the three cases (array of simple data, array of struct and struct) ? Thanks!

    Basically I posted a code snippet on a forum asking for help and people pointed out to me that using GoTo statements is very bad programming practise so I'm just wondering, why is it bad?     I notice that both of these compile without any compiler warnings or errors, even with Option Strict and Option Explicit both turned on: Dim x As Exception = New Exception("this is a test") Dim y = New Exception("this is another test") My question is, is it more proper to use the first way (see variable x) or the second way (see variable y)? My guess is that VB doesn't need the As clause since the variable is being initialized in place, so the compiler can infer the type. I tend to like the first way as it just "feels" right and is more consistent with other languages like C#, just wondered if there was some good reason for one way over the other. I guess it's really personal choice.

    I've made my choice for the developement components on the .NET platform: Spring.NET for IoC and NHibernate for data access. But how safe is it? I've heard here on SO (don't remember which post exactly) that Spring.NET is on its way down, cause for example the Java original version is developed by a large number of people; but (they say that) the sole person behind the .NET version is Mr. Mark Pollack. Is that so? And, if so, does it still make sense to count on Spring.NET for my production applications? if you have similar information about NHibernate, I'll appreciate it; though it seems that the latter is actively supported.

We've been scratching our heads with with this interesting scenario at the office, and we're anxious to hear your ideas and approaches: We have a database, whose schema is prone to changes -lets call it Prony-. (is used to store configuration parameters for embedded devices. so if the embedded devices guy need a new table, property or relationship for the model, he should be able to adapt the schema in a easy way -happens so often- ). Prony needs a web interface to create/edit its data. We have another database containing data that also need to be loaded to the devices, after making some transformations - lets call this one Oddy- (this data it's generated by an already existent administrative web application). Finally we have Tracy, a server that communicates our DBs and our embedded devices. She should to auto-adapt herself, to our dbs schema changes and serialize the data to the devices. Nice puzzle, don't think so? : ) Our current candidates: Rady: The fast Lets create some views in Prony that make the data transformation from Oddy. then use DynamicData (or some RAD tool) to create/update a simple web interface for Prony (so he can even consult the transformated data from coming from Prony : ). About Tracy, she will need to be recompiled to update her DB schema (Entity framework should work) and use Reflection to explore recursively the schema and serialize data. Cons: We would have to recompile Tracy and the Prony's web interface. What do you think of the candidate(s)? What would you do?

    I just upgraded my Web Site project from 2.0 to 3.5 to take advantage of the TimeZoneInfo class. When I did this, I started getting an ambiguous assembly error (*see below). The problem is, I'm not using ScriptManager, an old version of SyncFusion is. I can't upgrade SyncFusion right now, so I need to tell ASP.NET to use version 1.0.61025.0 of the assembly.   • Triple Quotes? How do I delimit a databound Javascript string parameter in ASP.NET?

    How do I delimit a Javascript databound string parameter in an anchor OnClick event? I have an anchor tag in an ASP.NET Repeater control. The OnClick event of the anchor contains a call to a Javascript function. The Javascript funciton takes a string for it's input parameter. The string parameter is populated with a databound value from the Repeater. I need the 'double quotes' for the Container.DataItem. I need the 'single quotes' for the OnClick. And I still need one more delimiter (triple quotes?) for the input string parameter of the Javascript function call. Since I can't use 'single quotes' again, how do I ensure the Javascript function knows the input parameter is a string and not an integer? Without the extra quotes around the input string parameter, the Javascript function thinks I'm passing in an integer. Cheers in advance for any knowledge you can drop.     I'm serializing several objects into a single stream, but when i try to read them back, i can't seem to get anything but the last object: ProtoBuf.Serializer.Serialize(stream, postA1); ProtoBuf.Serializer.Serialize(stream, postB2); stream.Position = 0; var postA2 = ProtoBuf.Serializer.Deserialize<Post>(stream); var postB2 = ProtoBuf.Serializer.Deserialize<Post>(stream); The first deserialize moves the stream to the end and postA2 contains the value of postB2, while postB2 is just an uninitialized instance. Is this expected behavior, and if so, how do you deserialize an object from a random position in a stream?

    Hello, I have a cmd command that needs to be executed, when the command starts it starts to fill a progressbar. When the cmd command is done the progressbar needs to fill up to 100. VB gives me a suggestions about Cross Thread, but i don't know how i could make it work with this.

  • Me.Invoke in VB.NET doesn't actually "Invoke" - threads stall on Invoke statement

    I've got the following code: Public Delegate Sub SetStatusBarTextDelegate(ByVal StatusText As String) Private Sub SetStatusBarText(ByVal StatusText As String) If Me.InvokeRequired Then Me.Invoke(New SetStatusBarTextDelegate(AddressOf SetStatusBarText), StatusText) Else Me.labelScanningProgress.Text = StatusText End If End Sub The problem is that, when I call the "SetStatusBarText" sub from another thread, InvokeRequired is True (as it should be), but then my threads stall on the Me.Invoke statement - pausing execution shows them all just sitting there, not actually invoking anything. Any thoughts about why the threads seem to be afraid of the Invoke?

But when I select something a second time it doesn't change. All of the paths it's trying to navigate to are correct. I've checked this 1000 times. Anyone have any clues why this isn't working?
