• PHP ZendOptimizer on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

  I would like to install FlashMoto and the requirements are not unreasonable: PHP 5.2.1 or higher, Zend Optimizer 3.3 or higher. However my RHEL 5.4 provides me with PHP 5.1.6. So I tried the remi repository http://rpms.famillecollet.com/ but it gave me PHP 5.3.1 and Zend Optimizer from zend.com does not support anything higher than 5.2.x. I also tried the dag repo but it does not have PHP in any version. I also tried some RPMs that Oracle provides on their homepage but they don't provide php-mbstring that I also need. Does anyone know how to get PHP 5.2.1 installed on a RHEL 5.4? Then I can probably fix install the Zend thing. Thanks in advance.

  OS: CentOS 5.3, with openssh 4.3p2 Trying to set 'chroot' in ssh shell, but openssh version prior to 4.8 doesn't take below settings. yum update openssh open up to version 4.3 which is quite old. Doesn't CentOS support openssh 4.8 or up? If that's the case, how to set chroot with openssh 4.3? or is it better to just using FTP? • Demystifying Silverlight Dependency Properties

  I have the opportunity to teach a lot of people about Silverlight (amongst other technologies) and one of the topics that definitely confuses people initially is the concept of dependency properties. I confess that when I first heard about them my initial thought was “Why do we need a specialized type of property?” While you can certainly use standard CLR properties in Silverlight applications, Silverlight relies heavily on dependency properties for just about everything it does behind the scenes. In fact, dependency properties are an essential part of the data binding, template, style and animation functionality available in Silverlight. They simply back standard CLR properties. In this post I wanted to put together a (hopefully) simple explanation of dependency properties and why you should care about them if you’re currently working with Silverlight or looking to move to it.   What are Dependency Properties? XAML provides a great way to define layout controls, user input controls, shapes, colors and data binding expressions in a declarative manner. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes in order to make XAML work and an important part of that magic is the use of dependency properties. If you want to bind data to a property, style it, animate it or transform it in XAML then the property involved has to be a dependency property to work properly. If you’ve ever positioned a control in a Canvas using Canvas.Left or placed a control in a specific Grid row using Grid.Row then you’ve used an attached property which is a specialized type of dependency property. Dependency properties play a key role in XAML and the overall Silverlight framework. Any property that you bind, style, template, animate or transform must be a dependency property in Silverlight applications. You can programmatically bind values to controls and work with standard CLR properties, but if you want to use the built-in binding expressions available in XAML (one of my favorite features) or the Binding class available through code then dependency properties are a necessity. Dependency properties aren’t needed in every situation, but if you want to customize your application very much you’ll eventually end up needing them. For example, if you create a custom user control and want to expose a property that consumers can use to change the background color, you have to define it as a dependency property if you want bindings, styles and other features to be available for use. Now that the overall purpose of dependency properties has been discussed let’s take a look at how you can create them. Creating Dependency Properties When .NET first came out you had to write backing fields for each property that you defined as shown next: Brush _ScheduleBackground; public Brush ScheduleBackground { get { return _ScheduleBackground; } set { _ScheduleBackground = value; } } Although .NET 2.0 added auto-implemented properties (for example: public Brush ScheduleBackground { get; set; }) where the compiler would automatically generate the backing field used by get and set blocks, the concept is still the same as shown in the above code; a property acts as a wrapper around a field. Silverlight dependency properties replace the _ScheduleBackground field shown in the previous code and act as the backing store for a standard CLR property. The following code shows an example of defining a dependency property named ScheduleBackgroundProperty: public static readonly DependencyProperty ScheduleBackgroundProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("ScheduleBackground", typeof(Brush), typeof(Scheduler), null);   Looking through the code the first thing that may stand out is that the definition for ScheduleBackgroundProperty is marked as static and readonly and that the property appears to be of type DependencyProperty. This is a standard pattern that you’ll use when working with dependency properties. You’ll also notice that the property explicitly adds the word “Property” to the name which is another standard you’ll see followed. In addition to defining the property, the code also makes a call to the static DependencyProperty.Register method and passes the name of the property to register (ScheduleBackground in this case) as a string. The type of the property, the type of the class that owns the property and a null value (more on the null value later) are also passed. In this example a class named Scheduler acts as the owner. The code handles registering the property as a dependency property with the call to Register(), but there’s a little more work that has to be done to allow a value to be assigned to and retrieved from the dependency property. The following code shows the complete code that you’ll typically use when creating a dependency property. You can find code snippets that greatly simplify the process of creating dependency properties out on the web. The MVVM Light download available from http://mvvmlight.codeplex.com comes with built-in dependency properties snippets as well. public static readonly DependencyProperty ScheduleBackgroundProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("ScheduleBackground", typeof(Brush), typeof(Scheduler), null); public Brush ScheduleBackground { get { return (Brush)GetValue(ScheduleBackgroundProperty); } set { SetValue(ScheduleBackgroundProperty, value); } } The standard CLR property code shown above should look familiar since it simply wraps the dependency property. However, you’ll notice that the get and set blocks call GetValue and SetValue methods respectively to perform the appropriate operation on the dependency property. GetValue and SetValue are members of the DependencyObject class which is another key component of the Silverlight framework. Silverlight controls and classes (TextBox, UserControl, CompositeTransform, DataGrid, etc.) ultimately derive from DependencyObject in their inheritance hierarchy so that they can support dependency properties. Dependency properties defined in Silverlight controls and other classes tend to follow the pattern of registering the property by calling Register() and then wrapping the dependency property in a standard CLR property (as shown above). They have a standard property that wraps a registered dependency property and allows a value to be assigned and retrieved. If you need to expose a new property on a custom control that supports data binding expressions in XAML then you’ll follow this same pattern. Dependency properties are extremely useful once you understand why they’re needed and how they’re defined. Detecting Changes and Setting Defaults When working with dependency properties there will be times when you want to assign a default value or detect when a property changes so that you can keep the user interface in-sync with the property value. Silverlight’s DependencyProperty.Register() method provides a fourth parameter that accepts a PropertyMetadata object instance. PropertyMetadata can be used to hook a callback method to a dependency property. The callback method is called when the property value changes. PropertyMetadata can also be used to assign a default value to the dependency property. By assigning a value of null for the final parameter passed to Register() you’re telling the property that you don’t care about any changes and don’t have a default value to apply. Here are the different constructor overloads available on the PropertyMetadata class: PropertyMetadata Constructor Overload Description PropertyMetadata(Object) Used to assign a default value to a dependency property. PropertyMetadata(PropertyChangedCallback) Used to assign a property changed callback method. PropertyMetadata(Object, PropertyChangedCalback) Used to assign a default property value and a property changed callback.   There are many situations where you need to know when a dependency property changes or where you want to apply a default. Performing either task is easily accomplished by creating a new instance of the PropertyMetadata class and passing the appropriate values to its constructor. The following code shows an enhanced version of the initial dependency property code shown earlier that demonstrates these concepts: public Brush ScheduleBackground { get { return (Brush)GetValue(ScheduleBackgroundProperty); } set { SetValue(ScheduleBackgroundProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty ScheduleBackgroundProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("ScheduleBackground", typeof(Brush), typeof(Scheduler), new PropertyMetadata(new SolidColorBrush(Colors.LightGray), ScheduleBackgroundChanged)); private static void ScheduleBackgroundChanged(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { var scheduler = d as Scheduler; scheduler.Background = e.NewValue as Brush; } The code wires ScheduleBackgroundProperty to a property change callback method named ScheduleBackgroundChanged. What’s interesting is that this callback method is static (as is the dependency property) so it gets passed the instance of the object that owns the property that has changed (otherwise we wouldn’t be able to get to the object instance). In this example the dependency object is cast to a Scheduler object and its Background property is assigned to the new value of the dependency property. The code also handles assigning a default value of LightGray to the dependency property by creating a new instance of a SolidColorBrush. To Sum Up In this post you’ve seen the role of dependency properties and how they can be defined in code. They play a big role in XAML and the overall Silverlight framework. You can think of dependency properties as being replacements for fields that you’d normally use with standard CLR properties. In addition to a discussion on how dependency properties are created, you also saw how to use the PropertyMetadata class to define default dependency property values and hook a dependency property to a callback method. The most important thing to understand with dependency properties (especially if you’re new to Silverlight) is that they’re needed if you want a property to support data binding, animations, transformations and styles properly. Any time you create a property on a custom control or user control that has these types of requirements you’ll want to pick a dependency property over of a standard CLR property with a backing field. • Need a MP3 ID3 tagger, and cover fetcher

  I need to tag my MP3 library, and have tried kid3 (which was manual tagging), when I used Kubuntu 9.10 (I now use Ubunutu Meerkat) Here are the features I am hoping for: A good and clean UI. Tagging should be automatic, like Winamp's autotag feature, which rocks, btw! It should also embed the cover-art in the mp3, not copy a jpeg file in the folder, because now-a-days all players support displaying cover art. But acceptable if not possible. Rename the files as per some regular expression like %TrackNo - %Artist - %Title. Should be accurate, and more importantly smart. I want to start tagging at night, and hopefully my collection should be done by the morning, w/o it being stuck at a user prompt at 1%. If one app cant do all, I am willing to use 3, wouldn't mind exposure to a few more apps ;) I have used picard or someting, and I didnt like it quite a lot. But wouldn't mind using it, if there is no other alternative. Thanks for your time!

  I use procmail to handle some serverside mail processing. I am trying to setup one email address on a server that support multiple domains (in the example below, domain.net and domain.com). I want mail sent to [email protected] to go to bob and mail sent to [email protected] to go to sara. VERBOSE=off LOGFILE=/dev/null :0 * .domain.net bob :0 * .domain.com sara The above recipe seems to work quite well in that it catches incoming mail to domain.net and forwards it to bob. However, instead of forwarding mail to domain.com to sara, it creates a file in /home/user called sara. What am I doing wrong on this?

• Entering BIOs Setup from Supermicro IPMI KVM

  I'm having trouble getting into BIOs Setup from Supermicro IPMI "KVM" - Remote Control Console Redirection. I need to change the boot order to CDROM first. I'm running Windows 2008 server. After some Googling, it says here that the method is to: Press TAB to enter Setup screen. Press Esc twice to take effect. http://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=6222 A month ago, I tried that 30-40 times + DEL, over 2 hours, it worked. Now, I've been trying the same key combination for more than an hour, rebooting each time it failed, it still doesn't work. Note: I've only got a notebook computer, no extra monitor.

• Windows Updates Fails Server 2008 0x80070490

  I have a server with Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 Edition installed. This has been installed and running for several months and I have been able to successfully install previous Windows Updates. I have two pending updates that fail to install. (KB967723) Security update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (KB976098) Update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition Fails with Error code: 80070490 Followed this off Microsoft support site, which basically says to repair Windows with the install DVD. When I get to the step to select upgrade I get the following error. Upgrade has been disabled. The upgrade cannot be started. To upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is more recent then the version you are currently running. So basically feel like I've hit a dead end with out doing a complete reinstall. Any ideas ?

• Sharepoint Search crawl not working

  Search Crawling is error out on my MOSS 2007 installation. I get the following error for all the web apps I have following error in Crawl logs. http://mysites.devserver URL could not be resolved. The host may be unavailable, or the proxy settings are not configured correctly on the index server. The Application Event log also has the following corresponding error The start address http://mysites.devserver cannot be crawled. Context: Application 'SSPMain', Catalog 'Portal_Content' Details: The URL of the item could not be resolved. The repository might be unavailable, or the crawler proxy settings are not configured. To configure the crawler proxy settings, use the Proxy and Timeout page in search administration. (0x80041221) I'm using Windows 2008 server. I tried accessing the site using the above mentioned url and its available. I did the registry setting for loop back issue found here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861 still not luck. Any Ideas?

• Reputable TabletPC vendors

  I'm developing software for tablet pcs and so far I've used some lenovo's (x41), some toshiba's (portege m200) and some gateways (M275). Granted: the machines we've gotten have predominantly been refurbs, but they're failing 80-90% of the time. Part of the reason that they're failing is users inevitably dropping them, so I'm looking at potentially some rugged tablet pcs. The problem that I'm running into is that Current tablet pcs are high spec (much higher than I'm looking for at least) The rugged tablet manufacturer space seems to be filled with lots of small companies that I don't trust yet. I'm looking for tablet PCs (keyboard or no) that can support: XP tpc (optional win 7) single core 1.5-2ghz 1gb ram wifi optional gsm optional gps very optional vehicle docking solutions The budget I've got is tight (but slightly flexible - So are there any reputable tablet pc vendors out there that can do this.

• Error on clicking on Text to Speech tab in Speech properties in Control Panel

  When I click on Text to Speech tab in Speech properties I receive error: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\sapi.cpl",Speech". There's a hotfix mentioned the the KBs in MS support.For that MS sent me a password protected file ; 170483_ENU_i386_zip.exe which contained two files : WindowsXP-KB838659-x86-ENU.EXE and WINDOWSXP-KB838659-X86-ENU-Symbols.EXE . The first one did not install as it said i already had it and the second one unpacked some dlls which i don't know how to use. I also tried Re-registering sapi.dll on Windows XP using C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32.exe Is there any other fix to this error?

  Web server and SQL server both are running on the different machine. Author: Phil Hunt This afternoon, the OAuth Working Group will meet at IETF88 in Vancouver to discuss some important topics important to the maturation of OAuth. One of them is the OAuth client registration problem.OAuth (RFC6749) was initially developed with a simple deployment model where there is only monopoly or singleton cloud instance of a web API (e.g. there is one Facebook, one Google, on LinkedIn, and so on). When the API publisher and API deployer are the same monolithic entity, it easy for developers to contact the provider and register their app to obtain a client_id and credential.But what happens when the API is for an open source project where there may be 1000s of deployed copies of the API (e.g. such as wordpress). In these cases, the authors of the API are not the people running the API. In these scenarios, how does the developer obtain a client_id? An example of an "open deployed" API is OpenID Connect. Connect defines an OAuth protected resource API that can provide personal information about an authenticated user -- in effect creating a potentially common API for potential identity providers like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, or Oracle. In Oracle's case, Fusion applications will soon have RESTful APIs that are deployed in many different ways in many different environments. How will developers write apps that can work against an openly deployed API with whom the developer can have no prior relationship?At present, the OAuth Working Group has two proposals two consider: Dynamic RegistrationDynamic Registration was originally developed for OpenID Connect and UMA. It defines a RESTful API in which a prospective client application with no client_id creates a new client registration record with a service provider and is issued a client_id and credential along with a registration token that can be used to update registration over time.As proof of success, the OIDC community has done substantial implementation of this spec and feels committed to its use. Why not approve?Well, the answer is that some of us had some concerns, namely: Recognizing instances of software - dynamic registration treats all clients as unique. It has no defined way to recognize that multiple copies of the same client are being registered other then assuming if the registration parameters are similar it might be the same client. Versioning and Policy Approval of open APIs and clients - many service providers have to worry about change management. They expect to have approval cycles that approve versions of server and client software for use in their environment. In some cases approval might be wide open, but in many cases, approval might be down to the specific class of software and version. Registration updates - when does a client actually need to update its registration? Shouldn't it be never? Is there some characteristic of deployed code that would cause it to change? Options lead to complexity - because each client is treated as unique, it becomes unclear how the clients and servers will agree on what credentials forms are acceptable and what OAuth features are allowed and disallowed. Yet the reality is, developers will write their application to work in a limited number of ways. They can't implement all the permutations and combinations that potential service providers might choose. Stateful registration - if the primary motivation for registration is to obtain a client_id and credential, why can't this be done in a stateless fashion using assertions? Denial of service - With so much stateful registration and the need for multiple tokens to be issued, will this not lead to a denial of service attack / risk of resource depletion? At the very least, because of the information gathered, it would difficult for service providers to clean up "failed" registrations and determine active from inactive or false clients. There has yet to be much wide-scale "production" use of dynamic registration other than in small closed communities. Client Association A second proposal, Client Association, has been put forward by Tony Nadalin of Microsoft and myself. We took at look at existing use patterns to come up with a new proposal. At the Berlin meeting, we considered how WS-STS systems work. More recently, I took a review of how mobile messaging clients work. I looked at how Apple, Google, and Microsoft each handle registration with APNS, GCM, and WNS, and a similar pattern emerges. This pattern is to use an existing credential (mutual TLS auth), or client bearer assertion and swap for a device specific bearer assertion.In the client association proposal, the developer's registration with the API publisher is handled by having the developer register with an API publisher (as opposed to the party deploying the API) and obtaining a software "statement". Or, if there is no "publisher" that can sign a statement, the developer may include their own self-asserted software statement.A software statement is a special type of assertion that serves to lock application registration profile information in a signed assertion. The statement is included with the client application and can then be used by the client to swap for an instance specific client assertion as defined by section 4.2 of the OAuth Assertion draft and profiled in the Client Association draft. The software statement provides a way for service provider to recognize and configure policy to approve classes of software clients, and simplifies the actual registration to a simple assertion swap. Because the registration is an assertion swap, registration is no longer "stateful" - meaning the service provider does not need to store any information to support the client (unless it wants to). Has this been implemented yet? Not directly. We've only delivered draft 00 as an alternate way of solving the problem using well-known patterns whose security characteristics and scale characteristics are well understood. Dynamic Take II At roughly the same time that Client Association and Software Statement were published, the authors of Dynamic Registration published a "split" version of the Dynamic Registration (draft-richer-oauth-dyn-reg-core and draft-richer-oauth-dyn-reg-management). While some of the concerns above are addressed, some differences remain. Registration is now a simple POST request. However it defines a new method for issuing client tokens where as Client Association uses RFC6749's existing extension point. The concern here is whether future client access token formats would be addressed properly. Finally, Dyn-reg-core does not yet support software statements. Conclusion The WG has some interesting discussion to bring this back to a single set of specifications. Dynamic Registration has significant implementation, but Client Association could be a much improved way to simplify implementation of the overall OpenID Connect specification and improve adoption. In fairness, the existing editors have already come a long way. Yet there are those with significant investment in the current draft. There are many that have expressed they don't care. They just want a standard. There is lots of pressure on the working group to reach consensus quickly.And that folks is how the sausage is made.Note: John Bradley and Justin Richer recently published draft-bradley-stateless-oauth-client-00 which on first look are getting closer. Some of the details seem less well defined, but the same could be said of client-assoc and software-statement. I hope we can merge these specs this week.   I am designing a campus network, and the design looks like this: LINX is The London Internet Exchange and JANET is Joint Academic Network. My goal is an almost-fully redundant with high availability, because it will have to support about 15k people, including academic staff, administrative staff and students. I have read some documents in the process , but I am still not sure about some aspects. I want to dedicate this one to firewalls: what are the driving factors in deciding to employ a dedicated firewall, instead of an embedded firewall in the border router? From what I can see, an embedded firewall has these advantages: Easier to maintain Better integration One less hop Less space requirement Cheaper Dedicated firewall has the advantage of being modular. Is there anything else? What am I missing?

• Jetty - Virtualhosting - SSL Certificates

  Hi all, I want to have different SSL certificates for different domains that I am hosting in a single Jetty instance. I do not want to front my Jetty application server with Apache. I am running Jetty 6.1.22. So far, I have only seen configurations with a single SSL certificate, and the configuration for SSL happens within server which leads me to believe that Jetty was designed to support a single SSL certificate. Please let me know if I can use Jetty with more than 1 certificate. I am considering migrating to JBoss Application Server 6.0 since it is closer to a real application server. Is this something that can be done there, and is it a supported feature? Walter

• The Grenelle II Act In France: A Milestone Towards Integrated Reporting

Article 225 of Grenelle II requires that many listed companies on the French stock exchanges incorporate information on the social and environmental consequences of their activities into their annual reports, as well as their societal commitments for sustainable development. The decree that implements Article 225 of Grenelle II was passed in April 2012. Grenelle II is the strongest governmental mandate yet in support of sustainability reporting. The law defines the phase-in process, with large listed companies expected to comply in their 2012 reports and smaller companies expected to comply with their 2014 annual reports. This extra-financial information will have to be embedded in the annual management report, approved by the Board of Directors, verified by a third-party body and given to the annual general meeting. The subjects that must be reported on are grouped into Environmental, Social, and Governance categories.   Using CentOS 5.7, how do I install GCC version 4.6? I just installed version 4.4 using # yum install gcc44 but that version still doesn't support variable length arrays from C99 standard. • Zantaz's EAS exchange archive product doesn't integrate with Outlook in Windows 7

  I work at a place that uses Exchange with Outlook for mail, and they also use a product from Zantaz called "EAS" which does server-side archiving of old messages. One of the artifacts of this archival is that email attachments are missing from the archived messages when viewed in Outlook. EAS has a client tool that plugs into Outlook that enables easy retrieval of those archived messages and their attachments, but it doesn't seem to work when installed on Windows 7. I have no direct evidence of this, other than that it simply doesn't work on my Windows 7 machine, and some of our network support staff seem to corroborate this. The symptom is that Outlook seems to know nothing of the existence of this EAS app. The EAS app also has a system tray icon which is there and offers some minimal functionality, but the real goodness is the Outlook integration, which I sorely miss. So, my question is this: does anyone here know whether it's possible to coerce this EAS product into working correctly in Windows 7?

  For some time I've been interested in binding the Windows Key (Super_L) on my keyboard to Copy and Paste for no other reason but convenience and consistency between my desktop and my MacBook. I thought that I was close after reading about xmodmap and executing the following: $ # re-map Super_L to Mode_switch, the 3rd col in keymap table `xmodmap -pke` $ xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = Mode_switch" $ # map Mode_switch+c to copy $ xmodmap -e "keycode 54 = c C XF86_Copy C" $ # map Mode_switch+v to paste $ xmodmap -e "keycode 55 = v V XF86_Paste V" Unfortunately, XF86Copy and XF86Paste don't seem to work, at all. They are listed in /usr/include/X11/XF86keysym.h and xev shows that the key sequence is being interpreted by X as XF86Paste and XF86Copy, do these symbols actually work? Do they have to have application level support?
