    With Oracle vs Google trial, it seems that Java is not entirely Open and free (as free software) as I expected. Although there exists completely free/open JVM, it's hard to know what is a copyright infringement with Java, and what is not. So I'd like to know if there is a completely Open and free language with open and free IDE (Eclipse-like) out there, Object Oriented if possible, and able to make window-based applications for the main OSs (Linux, Mac, Windows).

  • Why can't WARs share session info?

    I have seen several developers looking for a solution for this problem: accessing session information from a different WAR (even when inside the same EAR) - here are some samples: Any way to share session state between different applications in tomcat?, Access session of another web application, different WAR files, shared resources, Tomcat: How to share data between two applications?, What does the crossContext attribute do in Tomcat? Does it enable session sharing? and so on... From all I have searched, there are some specific solutions depending on the container, but it is somehow 'contrary to the specification'. I have also looked through Java EE specification without any luck on finding an answer. Some developers talk about coupling between web applications, but I tend to disagree. What is the reason one would keep WARs inside the same EAR if not coupling? EJBs, for instance, can be accessed locally (even if inside another EJB JAR within the same EAR). More specifically, one of my WARs handles authentication and authorization, and I would like to share this information with other WARs (in the same EAR). I have managed to work around similar problems before by packaging WARs as JARs and putting them into a singular WAR project (WEB-INF/lib). Yet I do not like this solution (it requires a huge effort on servlet naming and so on). And no solution has answered the first (and most important) question: Why can't WARs share session information?

    I've been reading up about the repository pattern, with a view to implementing it in my own application. Almost all examples I've found on the internet use some kind of existing framework rather than showing how to implement it 'from scratch'. Here's my first thoughts of how I might implement it - I was wondering if anyone could advise me on whether this is correct? I have two tables, named CONTAINERS and BITS. Each CONTAINER can contain any number of BITs. I represent them as two classes: class Container{ private $bits; private $id; //...and a property for each column in the table... public function __construct(){ $this->bits = array(); } public function addBit($bit){ $this->bits[] = $bit; } //...getters and setters... } class Bit{ //some properties, methods etc... } Each class will have a property for each column in its respective table. What I did: Downloaded Tomcat 6.0.26 & Spring 3.0.1 Downloaded PetClinic from https://src.springframework.org/svn/spring-samples/petclinic Built & deployed petclinic.war. Ran fine with default TopLink persistence. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/spring/applicationContext-jpa.xml and changed jpaVendorAdaptor from TopLink to Hibernate. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/web.xml and changed context-param from applicationContext-jdbc.xml to applicationContext-jpa.xml Copied everything in the Spring 3.0.1 distribution to TOMCAT_HOME/lib. Launched tomcat. Saw Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: ClassLoader [org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader] does NOT provide an 'addTransformer(ClassFileTransformer)' method. Specify a custom LoadTimeWeaver or start your Java virtual machine with Spring's agent: -javaagent:spring-agent.jar Uncommented line <Loader loaderClass="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.tomcat.TomcatInstrumentableClassLoader"/> in webapps/META-INF/context.xml. Same error. Added that line to TOMCAT_HOME/context.xml Deployed without error.     So, I've got a DAO that I used to load and save my domain objects using JPA. I finally managed to get the transaction stuff working (with a bunch of help from the folks here...), now I've got another issue. In my test case, I call my DAO to load a domain object with a given id, check that it got loaded and then call the same DAO to delete the object I just loaded.   • Mbean registered but not found in mbean Server

    I have a problem about the mbeans. I have created a simple mbean and I have registered it on the default mBeanServer that is run (Via eclipse or java -jar mbean.jar) and in the same process if I try to fouund the mbean registered with a simple query: for (ObjectInstance instance : mbs.queryMBeans(ObjectNameMbean, null)) { System.out.println(instance.toString()); } the query retuerns my mbean, but if I start another process and try to search this mbean registered the mbeas is not found! why? The approch is : (Process that is running) public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { MBeanServer mbeanServer =ManagementFactory.getPlatformMBeanServer(); ObjectName objectName = new ObjectName(ObjectNameMbean); Simple simple = new Simple (1, 0); mbeanServer.registerMBean(simple, objectName); while (true) { wait (Is this necessary?) } } So this is the first process that is running (that has the only pourpose to registry the mbean, because there is another process that want to read these informations. So I start another process to search this mbean but nothing. I 'm not using jboss but the local Java virtual Machine but my scope is to deploy this simple application in one ejb (autostart) and another ejb will read all informations. All suggestions are really apprecciated.   • virtualbox installing iso Error "could not find a valid v7 on sda"

    I decided to try this suggestion to install Android x86 on Virtual Box. I'm following those steps and I'm at #4. I used the android-x86-4.0-RC1-amd_brazos.iso (because I have a ThinkPad that this might be compatible with and it seemed as good as any of the other choices...) I'm getting an endless series of errors: .[numbers] VFS: could not find a valid v7 on sda. .[numbers] VFS: could not find a valid v7 on sda. repeating... For storage, I made a VDI image sized at 4.0 GB (dynamically allocated) attached on SATA Port 0. Background and more details: I'm running Kubuntu 12.04. I installed VirtualBox 4.1.12 after adding deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian precise contrib to my sources. EDIT: Now I'm wondering if I installed the right package. I verified that I'm running 4.1.12. But I installed it with apt-get install virtualbox instead of the recommended apt-get install virtualbox-4.1. I checked just now and see this: apt-cache search virtualbox virtualbox - x86 virtualization solution - base binaries virtualbox-4.1 - Oracle VM VirtualBox But when I run VirtualBox, I get the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager version 4.1.12, so I think I'm OK. I did see one minor issue (possibly related to this question) when installing VB, but in my case I don't think it is actually an error at all: * No suitable module for running kernel found [fail] invoke-rc.d: initscript virtualbox, action "restart" failed. VirtualBox installed and seems to be running fine. I just can't get the ISO image to install. The error is as shown above.

  • OpenSolaris / Nexenta problems with NetXen 4-port NIC card (ntxn driver)

    Hello, I'm running NexentaStor Enterprise on an HP ProLiant DL180 G6 server. The onboard NIC interfaces surface as igb0 and igb1 and work well. However, I've added an HP NC375T 4-port network card using the NetXen 3031 chipset. This card should be handled by the ntxn driver in the SUNWntxn package, but that results in "ntxn0: failed to map doorbell" messages upon boot. The network interfaces don't show up. After some research, I found HP's driver package for the card. The release notes for the driver package state: This version of the Driver is supported only on Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 & 10/09. Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 & 10/09 contain an older version of NetXen P3 driver package called SUNWntxn. So, adding another version of NetXen P3 driver package using pkgadd command might result in conflicts with the NetXen driver binary & related files. Users are advised to uninstall native SUNWntxn driver package before installing the new package.
