• WPF: Animating TranslateTransform from code

  I have a WPF canvas on which I'm dynamically creating objects from code. These objects are being transformed by setting the RenderTransform property, and an animation needs to be applied one of those transforms. Currently, I can't get properties of any transform to animate (although no exception gets raised and the animation appears to run - the completed event gets raised). In addition, if the animation system is stressed, sometimes the Storyboard.Completed event is never raised. All the examples I've come accross animate the transforms from XAML. MSDN documentation suggests that the x:Name property of a transform must be set for it to be animatable, but I haven't found a working way to set it from code. Any ideas? • Silverlight child windows in MVVM pattern

  Hello, I am trying to find the right way to get the data from a ChildWindow/popup using a MVVM pattern in Silverlight (3). For example: I have a main page with a data entry form and I want to open a popup with a list of customers. When user selects a customer I want to transfer selected customer into the main page. • ListView not firing OnItemCommand after preventing postback

  Hi there, I have a ListView inside a FormView that, for some strange reason, doesn't fire neither the ItemInsert nor the ItemCommand event. I'm populating the ListView with a generic list. I had to put a "return false" in order for the parent page to not postback (and I think the problem lies here...). Then, when I click in the ImageButton with the CommandName="Insert", instead of firing the ItemCommand event, it enters once again in the ItemDataBound handler. So, any ideas? Thanks!

• WPF Animation FPS vs. CPU usage - Am I expecting too much?

  Working on a screen saver for my wife, http://cchearts.codeplex.com/, and while I've been able to improve FPS on lower end machines (switch from Path to StreamGeometry, use DrawingVisual instead of UserControl, etc) the CPU usage still seems very high. Here's some numbers I ran from a few 5 minute sampling periods: ~60FPS 35% average CPU on Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2GHz, 3GB ram, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB), Vista [My dev laptop] ~40FPS 50% average CPU on Pentium D @ 3.4GHz, 1.5GB ram, Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (unknown), 2003 Server [A crappy desktop] I can understand the lower frame rate and higher CPU usage on the crappy desktop but it still seems pretty high and 35% on my dev laptop seems high as well. I'd really like to analyze the application to get more details but I'm having issues there as well so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong (never profiled WPF before). WPF Performance Suite: Process Launch Error Unable to attach to process: CCHearts.exe Do you want to kill it? This error message occurs when I click cancel after attempting launch. If I don't click cancel it sits there idle, I guess waiting to attach. Performance Explorer: Could not launch C:\Projects2\CC.Hearts\CC.Hearts\bin\Debug (USEVISUAL)\CCHearts.exe. Previous attempt to profile the application finished unsuccessfully. Please restart the application. Output Window from Performance: Profiling started. Profiling process ID 5360 (CCHearts). Process ID 5360 has exited. Data written to C:\Projects2\CC.Hearts\CCHearts100608.vsp. Profiling finished. PRF0025: No data was collected. Profiling complete. So I'm stuck wanting to improve performance but have no concrete way to determine where the bottleneck is. Have been relatively successful throwing darts at this point but I'm beyond that now :) PS: Screensaver is hosted at CodePlex if you want to look at the source and missed the link above. Edit: My RenderOptions darts... // NOTE: Grasping at straws here ;-) RenderOptions.SetBitmapScalingMode(newHeart, BitmapScalingMode.LowQuality); RenderOptions.SetCachingHint(newHeart, CachingHint.Cache); RenderOptions.SetEdgeMode(newHeart, EdgeMode.Aliased); I threw those a little while back and didn't see much difference (not sure if the bitmap scaling even comes into play). Really wish I could get profiling working to know where I should try to optimize. For now I assume there is some overhead in creating a new HeartVisual and the DrawingVisual contained inside. Maybe if I reset and reused the hearts (tossed them in a queue once they completed or something) I'd see an improvement. Shrug Throwing darts while blindfolder is always fun.

• jQuery doesn't work in IE8?

  Hi, I am working on a site here: mfm.treethink.net All the jquery works fine in Firefox, Chrome and Safari but on IE8 it gives me errors and the banner at the top doesn't work (which uses the crossSlide jQuery plugin) and as well the image rollovers don't work with the colour change. IE8 is telling me that the errors are on lines 53, 134 and 149 in the source, all of those lines are where the jquery function is declared. $(document).ready(function(){ I am running jquery 1.4. Oddly enough, the other piece of jQuery I have on that page works, the artist browse/select menu on the right. But the banner and image rollovers don't. • How can I make a WPF TreeView data binding lazy and asynchronous?

  I am learning how to use data binding in WPF for a TreeView. I am procedurally creating the Binding object, setting Source, Path, and Converter properties to point to my own classes. I can even go as far as setting IsAsync and I can see the GUI update asynchronously when I explore the tree. So far so good! My problem is that WPF eagerly evaluates parts of the tree prior to them being expanded in the GUI. If left long enough this would result in the entire tree being evaluated (well actually in this example my tree is infinite, but you get the idea). I would like the tree only be evaluated on demand as the user expands the nodes. Is this possible using the existing asynchronous data binding stuff in the WPF? As an aside I have not figured out how ObjectDataProvider relates to this task. • Android mapView ItemizedOverlay setFocus does not work properly

  Calling setFocus(null) on the ItemizedOverlay does not 'unfocus' current marker. According to the documentation: ... If the Item is not found, this is a no-op. You can also pass null to remove focus. The most weird thing about it is that after calling setFocus(null), getFocus() also returns null - like the overlay has no focused item (I debugged it). But even after calling mapView.invalidate() the marker is still drawn in 'selected'(focused) state.

• Databinding to ObservableCollection in a different UserControl?

  Question re-written on 2010-03-24 I have two UserControls, where one is a dialog that has a TabControl, and the other is one that appears within said TabControl. I'll just call them CandyDialog and CandyNameViewer for simplicity's sake. There's also a data management class called Tracker that manages information storage, which for all intents and purposes just exposes a public property that is an ObservableCollection. As long as CandyNames is populated first, and then the consumer UserControl is displayed, all of the names are there. I obviously don't get any errors in the Output Window or anything like that. The issue I have is that when the ObservableCollection is modified from the model, those changes are not reflected in the consumer UserControl! I've never had this problem before; all of my previous uses of ObservableCollection updated fine, although in those cases I wasn't databinding across assemblies. Although I am currently only adding and removing candy names to/from the ObservableCollection, at a later date I will likely also allow renaming from the model side. Is there something I did wrong? Is there a good way to actually debug this? Reed Copsey indicates here that inter-UserControl databinding is possible. Unfortunately, my favorite Bea Stollnitz article on WPF databinding debugging doesn't suggest anything that I could use for this particular problem.

I created a MVVM Light project from the supplied templates and I get a System.IO.FileLoadException when I try to view the MainWindow.Xaml in VS 2010 designer window. The template already references System.Windows.Interactivity. • Java, Jacob and Microsoft Outlook events: Receiving "Can't find event iid" Error

  I am writing a Java program that interacts with Microsoft Outlook using the Jacob library (bridges COM and Java). This program creates a new MailItem, displaying its Inspector window to the user. I wish to subscribe to the inspector's Close event to know when the user is finished editing their mail item. To subscribe to the event, I followed the instructions in Jacob's documentation (about 2⁄3 down the page): The current [event] model is conceptually similar to the Visual Basic WithEvents construct. Basically, I provide a class called com.jacob.com.DispatchEvents which has a constructor that takes a source object (of type com.jacob.com.Dispatch) and a target object (of any type). The source object is queried for its IConnectionPointContainer interface and I attempt to obtain an IConnectionPoint for its default source interface (which I obtain from IProvideClassInfo). At the same time, I also create a mapping of DISPID's for the default source interface to the actual method names. I then use the method names to get jmethodID handles from the target Java object. All event methods currently must have the same signature: one argument which is a Java array of Variants, and a void return type. Unfortunately, none of them have received an answer. I am using version 1.7 of the Jacob library, which claims to prevent this problem: Version 1.7 also includes code to read the type library directly from the progid. This makes it possible to work with all the Microsoft Office application events, as well as IE5 events. For an example see the samples/test/IETest.java example. I noticed that the aforementioned IETest.java file subscribes to events like this: new DispatchEvents((Dispatch) ieo, ieE,"InternetExplorer.Application.1"); Therefore, I tried subscribing to my events in a similar manner: new DispatchEvents((Dispatch) inspector, eventHandler, "Outlook.Application"); new DispatchEvents((Dispatch) inspector, eventHandler, "Outlook.Application.1"); new DispatchEvents((Dispatch) inspector, eventHandler, "Outlook.Application.12"); All these attempts failed with the same error.

  I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server. In addition, I am using Zend_Mail to send the emails out. • WebKit "Refused to set unsafe header "content-length"

  I am trying to implement simple xhr abstraction, and am getting this warning when trying to set the headers for a POST. I think it might have something to do with setting the headers in a separate js file, because when i set them in the <script> tag in the .html file, it worked fine. The POST request is working fine, but I get this warning, and am curious why. I get this warning for both content-length and connection headers, but only in WebKit browsers (Chrome 5 beta and Safari 4). In Firefox, I don't get any warnings, the Content-Length header is set to the correct value, but the Connection is set to keep-alive instead of close, which makes me think that it is also ignoring my setRequestHeader calls and generating it's own. I have not tried this code in IE. • WPF FlowDocument: force calculation of height etc. "off screen"

  My target: a DocumentPaginator which takes a FlowDocument with a table, which splits the table to fit the pagesize and repeat the header/footer (special tagged TableRowGroups) on every page. For splitting the table I have to know the heights of its rows. While building the FlowDocument-table by code, the height/width of the TableRows are 0 (of course). If I assign this document to a FlowDocumentScrollViewer (PageSize is set), the heights etc. are calculated. Is this possible without using an UI-bound object? Instantiating a FlowDocumentScrollViewer which is not bound to a window doesn't force the pagination/calculation of the heights. tag.. i have 2 methods to do so. 1 . i make one page to edit a single record and pass id of record to that page on editing. open the page in iframe on same page to edit and in page_load get data from database for id passed and fill it in control. 2 . i store xml on server as physical file and use it in page i opened in iframe to edit the record. so i am confused... can anybody please guide me that what shpould i do to let user provide interface to edit this xml data/user profile ?

• SQL 2008 R2 login/network issue

  I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 new clean install , not a VM, that I have added to a Windows Server 2003 based domain using my account which has domain admin rights. The domain functional level is 2003. I performed a clean install of SQL Server 2008 R2 using my account which has domain admin rights. The installation completed without any errors. I logged into SSMS locally and attempted to add another domain account by clicking Search, Advanced and finding the user in the domain. When I return to the "Dialog - New" window and click OK I receive the following error: Create failed for Login 'Domain\User'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) Windows NT user or group 'Domain\User' not found. Check the name again. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15401) I have verified that the firewall is off, tried adding a different domain user, tried using SA to add a user, installed the hotfix for KB 976494 and verified that the Local Security Policy for Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel Domain Member: Digitally encrypt secure channel Domain Member: Digitally sign secure channel are disabled none of which have made a difference. I can RDP to a Server 2003 server running SQL 2008 and add the same domain user without issue. Also if I try to connect with SSMS to the sql server from another system on the domain using my account I get the following error: Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452) and on the database server I see the following in the security event log: An account failed to log on. • Hooking DirectX EndScene from an injected DLL

  I want to detour EndScene from an arbitrary DirectX 9 application to create a small overlay. As an example, you could take the frame counter overlay of FRAPS, which is shown in games when activated. I know the following methods to do this: Creating a new d3d9.dll, which is then copied to the games path. Since the current folder is searched first, before going to system32 etc., my modified DLL gets loaded, executing my additional code. Downside: You have to put it there before you start the game. Same as the first method, but replacing the DLL in system32 directly. Downside: You cannot add game specific code. You cannot exclude applications where you don't want your DLL to be loaded. Getting the EndScene offset directly from the DLL using tools like IDA Pro 4.9 Free. Since the DLL gets loaded as is, you can just add this offset to the DLL starting address, when it is mapped to the game, to get the actual offset, and then hook it. Downside: The offset is not the same on every system. Hooking Direct3DCreate9 to get the D3D9, then hooking D3D9-CreateDevice to get the device pointer, and then hooking Device-EndScene through the virtual table. Downside: The DLL cannot be injected, when the process is already running. You have to start the process with the CREATE_SUSPENDED flag to hook the initial Direct3DCreate9. Creating a new Device in a new window, as soon as the DLL gets injected. Then, getting the EndScene offset from this device and hooking it, resulting in a hook for the device which is used by the game. Downside: as of some information I have read, creating a second device may interfere with the existing device, and it may bug with windowed vs. fullscreen mode etc. Same as the third method. However, you'll do a pattern scan to get EndScene. Downside: doesn't look that reliable. How can I hook EndScene from an injected DLL, which may be loaded when the game is already running, without having to deal with different d3d9.dll's on other systems, and with a method which is reliable? How does FRAPS for example perform it's DirectX hooks? The DLL should not apply to all games, just to specific processes where I inject it via CreateRemoteThread.

  I have a problem that I have not faced before: It seems that the order of interpretation in my program is somehow different from what I expect. I have written a small Twitter client. It takes a few seconds for my program to actually post a tweet after I click the "GO" button (which can also be activated by hitting ENTER on the keyboard). I don't want to click multiple times within this time period thinking that I hadn't clicked it the first time. Therefore, when the button is clicked, I would like the label text to display something that tells me that the button has been clicked. I have implemented this message by altering the label text before I send the tweet across. However, for some reason, the message does not display until the tweet has been attempted. But since I have a confirmation message after the tweet, I never get to see this message and my original problem goes unsolved. I would really appreciate any help. • How does this ajax call persist DOM changes in the browser cache?

  For the purpose of the question I need to create a simple fictitious scenario. I have the following trivial page with one link, call it page A: <a class="red-anchor" onclick="change_color(event);" href="http://mysite.com/b/">B</a> With the associated Javascript function: function change_color(e) { var event = e || window.event; var link = event.target; link.className = "green-anchor"; } And I have the appropriate CSS to make the anchor red or green based on the classname. This is working. That is, when I click the anchor it changes color from red to green, which is briefly visible before the browser loads page B. But if I then use the BACK button to return to page A I get different behavior in different browsers. In Safari, the anchor is still green (desired behavior) In Firefox it reverts to red I imagine that Safari is somehow updating its cached version of the page, whereas Firefox isn't. So my first question is: is there any way to get FF to update the cached page, or is something else happening here? Secondly: I have a different implementation where I use an ajax call. In this I set the class of the anchor using a session variable, something like... <a class="<?php echo $_SESSION["color"]; ?>" ...[snip]... >B</a> And the javascript function makes an additional ajax call that changes the "color" session variable. In this case both Safari and Firefox work as expected. When going back from B to A the color is still green. But I can't for the life of me figure out why it should be different to the non-ajax case. I have tried many different permutations and for it to work on FF the "color" session variable MUST change (i.e. the ajax call itself is not somehow reloading the cache). But on coming BACK, the page is being reloaded from the cache (verified in Firebug), so how is the page even accessing this session variable if it isn't reprocessing the page and running that fragment of php in the anchor? I figure there must be something fundamental here that I am not understanding. Any insight would be much appreciated.

• realtime logging

  I have an application which has a loop, part of a "Scheduler", which runs at all time and is the heart of the application. Pretty much like a game loop, just that my application is a WPF application and it's not a game. Naturally the application does logging at many points, but the Scheduler does some sensitive monitoring, and sometimes it's impossible just from the logs to tell what may have gotten wrong (and by wrong I don't mean exceptions) or the current status. Because Scheduler's inner loop runs at short intervals, you can't do file I/O-based logging (or using the Event Viewer) in there. First, you need to watch it in real-time, and secondly the log file would grow in size very fast. So I was thinking of ways to show this data to the user in the realtime, some things I considered: Display the data in realtime in the UI Use AllocConsole/WriteConsole to display this information in a console Use a different console application which would display this information, communicate between the Scheduler and the console app using pipes or other IPC techniques Use Windows' Performance Monitor and somehow feed it with this information ETW Displaying in the UI would have its issues. First it doesn't integrate with the UI I had in mind for my application, and I don't want to complicate the UI just for this. This diagnostics would only happen rarely. Secondly, there is going to be some non-trivial data protection, as the Scheduler has it's own thread. A separate console window would work probably, but I'm still worried if it's not too much threshold. Allocating my own console, as this is a windows app, would probably be better than a different console application (3), as I don't need to worry about IPC communication, and non-blocking communication. However a user could close the console I allocated, and it would be problematic in that case. With a separate process you don't have to worry about it. Assuming there is an API for Performance Monitor, it wouldn't be integrated too well with my app or apparent to the users. Using ETW also doesn't solve anything, just a random idea, I still need to display this information somehow. What others think, would there be other ways I missed?

• Chrome Extension - Cross-Origin XMLHttpRequest - Returning HTML/JSON

  Hi everyone, I hope you can help me :) I've created a Chrome extension (my first one) and I'm having some difficulty auto-populating a <select> with <option> that are being returned. the default_popup page is index.htm. I have two <select> (listboxes? can't remember the name) boxes. When a user first clicks the extension, it performs a XMLHttpRequest to a php script and get's a list of names from a MySQL database. It returns (onLoad) the list in the form of: <option>blah</option> When a user selects an option from the first listbox/select, it performs another XMLHttpRequest and auto-populates the second listbox/select. Then when a user selects an option from the second listbox it will eventually populate a few details further down the page. I've been testing by just running the index.htm file and seeing if just the code works correctly, which it does. However when trying to view it from the extension, it doesn't work. The onLoad doesn't fill in the first listbox, and selecting an option (one that I typed in the box for testing purposes) from the first listbox doesn't populate the second listbox. I thought maybe it was a permissions error, so I tried adding the domain to the manifest.json file; but I appear to be getting an error in the manifest.json file after doing so. Do I need to be returning the <option> elements encoded as JSON? If so, I'm completely cluesless as how to do that.

• tinymce not working with chrome when i dynamically setcontent

• XNA - Keyboard text input

  Okay, so basically I want to be able to retrieve keyboard text. Like entering text into a text field or something. I'm only writing my game for windows. I've disregarded using Guide.BeginShowKeyboardInput because it breaks the feel of a self contained game, and the fact that the Guide always shows XBOX buttons doesn't seem right to me either. Yes it's the easiest way, but I don't like it. Next I tried using System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow. I created a class that inherited from it, and passed it the Games window handle, implemented the WndProc function to catch WM_CHAR (or WM_KEYDOWN) though the WndProc got called for other messages, WM_CHAR and WM_KEYDOWN never did. So I had to abandon that idea, and besides, I was also referencing the whole of Windows forms, which meant unnecessary memory footprint bloat. So my last idea was to create a Thread level, low level keyboard hook. This has been the most successful so far. I get WM_KEYDOWN message, (not tried WM_CHAR yet) translate the virtual keycode with Win32 funcation MapVirtualKey to a char. And I get my text! (I'm just printing with Debug.Write at the moment) A couple problems though. It's as if I have caps lock on, and an unresponsive shift key. (Of course it's not however, it's just that there is only one Virtual Key Code per key, so translating it only has one output) and it adds overhead as it attaches itself to the Windows Hook List and isn't as fast as I'd like it to be, but the slowness could be more due to Debug.Write. Has anyone else approached this and solved it, without having to resort to an on screen keyboard? or does anyone have further ideas for me to try? thanks in advance. note: This is cross posted from the XNA Creators Forums, so if I get an answer there I'll post it here and Vice-Versa Question asked by Jimmy Maybe I'm not understanding the question, but why can't you use the XNA Keyboard and KeyboardState classes? My comment: It's because though you can read keystates, you can't get access to typed text as and how it is typed by the user. So let me further clarify. I want to implement being able to read text input from the user as if they are typing into textbox is windows. The keyboard and KeyboardState class get states of all keys, but I'd have to map each key and combination to it's character representation. This falls over when the user doesn't use the same keyboard language as I do especially with symbols (my double quotes is shift + 2, while american keyboards have theirs somewhere near the return key).
