  • Can I use two of the same type of PCI Sound Cards in one computer?

    I recently purchased two Rocketfish 5.1 PCI Sound Cards from Best Buy. These are going to be used for audio production and radio broadcasting, so one card can handle live audio, the other can handle cue audio. After installing both cards, I get strange noises from the broadcasting program, and then the computer locks up solid. I have to hard restart to get it back up. This only happens when the two audio cards are installed on the computer. I have tried switching them around to different PCI slots, with the same result.

  • How can I block a specific type of DDoS attack?

    My site is being attacked and is using up all the RAM. I looked at the Apache logs and every malicious hit seems to simply be a POST request on /, which is never required by a normal user. So I thought and wondered if there's any sort of solution or utility that will monitor my Apache logs and block every IP that performs a POST request on the site root. I'm not familiar with DDoS protection and searching didn't seem to give me an answer, so I came here. Thanks.   • How much data bandwidth can a 3G gsm cell tower can support?

    I was always wondering how many simultaneous users can a 3G tower supports with its data rates? I mean they advertise 28.8Mb/Sec for the 3G Data but in reality if a lot of people use it say 10 , it wont give 288Mb/Sec bandwidth. I didn't find anywhere where such information is published so I thought to ask here. Don' know why the cell operators keep it such a secret :)

  • vim default save is no file type? default setting advisable?

    I just came across a problem that I seemed to have found a solution, but was a little surprised by the issue. In gVim, when I save a new document (new from "within" gVim), ala :w afile I realized it saves with I guess no file format, and thus is not visible in iPhone's PlainText app. Solution seems to be, save using :w afile.txt then the problem seems solved. Is this a good way to solve it? Should I change a default somewhere, either in Windows or _gvimrc file? I may consider doing some TeX'ing in vim at some point, so perhaps a default that allows for overriding in saving, and doesn't force txt when opening "any of all" documents.

  • How could I import Postgres data dumps into MS SQL?

    I have some data that is from a Postgres database dump (not csv or anything) and I am looking to get it into MS SQL. Is there an easy way to do this or a free tool that doesn't have limits on data import size etc? The Postgres is on a Debian VM and I could export it to csv in there but I am new to Linux and don't know how I would transfer it from the VM to Win 7. Thanks

    I have a dedicated hosted server box with ubuntu 10.04 64 bit installed. I would like to run kvm with ubuntu 8.04 installed for some php 5.2 compatible apps(they don't work right with php 5.3, the default in ubuntu 10.04). I installed KVM as instructed at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Installation . I installed the vm using virt-manager. I never could figure out how use virt-install or any of those automated installers. I just installed it using the disc. I set up bridged networking as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking . However, the bridged connection doesn't work. Here's my /etc/network/interfaces on the host, running ubuntu 10.04.   • Remote desktop type software that the client need not install anything...

    I am primarily a Macintosh user, and can usually walk a client though any troubles they may have because I have a Macintosh in front of me. If they are on a different OS, things are close enough, or I cam remember, that I can get by. When trying to help clients on Windows, I get stuck. I do not have access to windows, and even if I did, there are far too many versions of Outlook, all with their various esoteric settings and checkboxes, that I could never see exactly what they are seeing. I mostly need to just help them with email setup. Something like copilot.com may do the trick. What is the simplest remote control software out there, ideally, it would accomplish these: No software needed on remote end, or, a single .exe that they can toss when done. I need Mac based software on my end. I do have ARD, which support VNC Free :) If possible, it would be really nice Needs a port forwarding proxy run by the company. There is no way I can get the user to alter their router, or to even plug directly into their WAN for a short time. On the Mac, I just have them open iChat, and this is all built in, proxying through AIM, looking for the same for Windows and Mac.

    Hi, as titles says, how is sector id on HDD,CD-ROM and so distinguishable from data? I mean, when I want lets say sector #52, first, head goes to track where this sector should be, than it must wait some time to spin the desired sector above the reading head. But it must somehow recognize that its sector number, and not only data that say 52. So, how is this done? Thanks.

  • Is there any way to access the mp3 or other file type tags from within an ipod touch/iphone?

    I am just looking for an existing app that will let me read all the tags that are stored in a particular song on my ipod touch/iphone. I'm not much of a programmer, but would be willing to learn the iphone sdk (on windows) if I could build a program that would do this for me. I would love to be able to modify the tag while on the iphone, but just viewing them would be a great use to me. I'd like to read the Year tag, the comments tag, composer, etc. It's so annoying that I can't do this. Or can I already and I just don't know how. Yes, I know how to view the lyrics tag.     I am subscribed to an ISP supplying a 3meg ADSL line. Lately (for the last 4 weeks) speeds have dropped from the usual average downstream speed of ~250kbps to just 0.14Mbps (according to speedtest.net) and employees are complaining about lack of access to the server. I have been calling customer support and logging calls for the last 3 weeks, but they have been unable to determine the source of the problem other than carrying out a few bitstream tests and checking the DHCP renewal times. I am going to call back and suggest carrying out a BER test. What type of equipment is needed to carry out this test? I have access to a wide range of Cisco networking equipment. Other: We don't need a leased line as there are less than ten employees.

    I'm mounting a windows share as follows: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.178.49/public -o users,username=name,dom=domain,password=pword /mnt/nas Then I'm trying to create a simple file with some basic text: touch /mnt/nas/me.txt And get an error, however, the file is created (contains 0B of data though): touch: cannot touch ‘me.txt’: Permission denied With sudo it works flawless. How can I allow my current user to write data to the share? Is there a mount option?

    I wonder if we can force notepad++ to respect the previous whitespace character when it autoindents a new line: list[CR][LF] ····item1[CR][LF] ····item2[CR][LF] --->| (notepadd++ screenshot recreation showing hidden characters, because I don't have enough reputation to post images, sorry xP) If I am indenting with tabs I want a tab when notepad++ does an autoindent. But if I am indenting with spaces, I do want spaces.

However, having logged in as the users myself, the messages cannot be found either through searching or by browsing the folder detailed in the log entry. The server returns the following error to the client: "The message could not be retrieved using the IMAP4 protocol. The message has not been deleted and may be accessible using either Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access. You can also try contacting the original sender of the message to find out about the contents of the message. Retrieval of this message will be retried when the server is updated with a fix that addresses the problem." Messages were transferred in to Exchange by copying them from the old Apple Xserve, accessed using IMAP. So my question, finally: 1. Is there any way to get the IMAP Exchange connector to rebuild its cache of messages since it doesn't seem to be pulling them directly from the MAPI store? 2. Alternatively, if there is no database, any ideas on why these messages don't appear in Outlook or OWA would be gratefully received. Many thanks, Mike

  • CentOS - Configuring Puppet to play nice with SELinux

    I am running into an issue every time I attempt to start the puppetmasterd service, for which I receive the following error message: root@service1 ~ # -> /etc/init.d/puppetmaster start Starting puppetmaster: Could not prepare for execution: Got 1 failure(s) while initializing: change from absent to directory failed: Could not set 'directory on ensure: Permission denied - /etc/puppet/ssl [FAILED] Apparently there was a known issue with this scenario as outlined in this bug report, however in the bug report it states the issue has been resolved in selinux-policy-3.9.16-29.fc15, but the latest CentOS default upstream version is 3.7.19-155.el6_3.4. So I am trying to figure out the best solution. I can either create a local security policy to allow puppetmasterd the access it needs, or keep researching and install a newer version of selinux-policy outside of the default upstream channel. Anyone have any recommendations?   • How to detect device type from device connected to router?

    I have a att router and there is an unknown device connected to my network. I can't seem to kick it off because of how att's router settings are created which is kind of dumb. I am able to see its local ip and mac address. I am on a mac with snow leopard. How can I get more information on the device with the information that I have? I want to see what kind of device it is, I have checked all devices that are connected to the router and none seem to match the local ip that is connected. I have WPA encryption setup with a strong password.

  • How do I restore a partition without losing the data?

    I lost the D-partition in My Computer I opened My Computer, but couldn't find it and I don't know where it is or how to return it. I went to Disk Management and found it available as free space. So I tried to make it NTFS, but I had to format the drive and I don't want to, since it will erase my data. Does anyone know how I can restore my partition without losing my data?
