  • Mac OS X: How to change word separator characters?

    Depending on your system, the word separator characters change the way you can select/delete a word (e.g. by double clicking on it or using a key combination with your keyboard). The fact is that I hate the default behavior of OSX. For example: Take the following line of code: obj.attr1.innerAttr. If my cursor is at the end of the line and I press alt + backspace, it will delete everything and not just innerAttr. I only found some apps (like iTerm) which let you change the word separator characters. Is there a way to change it for the whole system?

Expected Result : Columns = ItemID | Name | Field1 | Field2 | Field3 Each Row= ItemId | ItemName| Value1 | Value2 | Value3 Important concerns : 1: Number of fields per item are not known 2: I need one to write ONE query. 3: Query will be running on 100K records, so performance is concern. 4: I am using MySQL 5.0, so need solution for MYSQL Should I denormalize the tables if above query is not possible at all ?   • Testing perceived performance

    I recently got a shiny new development workstation. The only disadvantage of this is that the desktop apps I'm developing now run very, very fast, and so I fear that parts of the code that would be annoyingly slow on end users' machines will go unnoticed during my testing. Is there a good way to slow down an application for testing? I've tried searching around, but all of the results I've been able to find seem pretty fiddly to set up (e.g., manually setting up a high-priority CPU-bound task on the same CPU core as the target app, or running a background process that rapidly interrupts and resumes the target app), and I don't know if the end result is actually a good representation of running on a slower computer (with its slower CPU, slower RAM, slower disk I/O...). I don't think that this is a job for a profiler; I'm interested in the user's perception of end-to-end performance rather than in where the time goes for particular operations.

    Hi, I am trying to validate the format of non-negative integers with the following validates_format_of :fundays, :with => /\A[\d]+\Z/, :message => "invalid fundays" And here is the form field used in the view <%= f.text_field :fundays, :maxlength => 3, :style => 'width:50px;' %> However, when I input a non-digit into this field and submit the form, it does not fail the validation. Instead it saves a value of 0 in the database. How do I make it write to the list of error messages. thanks

  • Why would a FaceBook application "work" on a profile, but not a page?

    I made a FaceBook application that works fine on profiles, but I can't figure out how to get it to show on a FaceBook page. For example, after I visit the application canvas URL, allow the application, then edit application settings and "add" to box and tab view... I cannot click the "plus" symbol to the left of the tabs in order to add a tab for the application. It does not appear in the list of available applications. Meanwhile, the application is working/showing up on profiles with no issues. I DID check the "Installable to Pages" checkbox on the application (authentication tab) settings. What could cause this? The idea is that we want to tie in a 'buddy' functionality to a communications app. Very broadly, I believe that the application clients would connect to a central database/auth service which would provide the buddy data and then allow client apps to connect directly to eachother, without passing communications through the server. Specifically, however, what solutions, software, products, servers, technologies, etc would be best to implement to handle such a task?   • Incorporate Wordpress into Kohana 3

    I now need to make a Kohana 3 site have a Wordpress blog. I've seen Kerkness' Kohana For Wordpress, but it seems to be the opposite of what I want. Here are the options I have thought of Style a template to look exactly like the Kohana site (time consuming, non DRY and may not work) Include the blog within an iframe (ugly as all hell) cURL the Wordpress pages in. This of course means I will need to create layers between comment posting, etc, which sounds like too much work. Is there any way I can include a Wordpress blog within an existing Kohana application? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Update Forgot to mention I have already programmed a model in Kohana to open pages based on their slug. Now I want to put blog content in there, and have the comments and other bits work. I also have installed WP e-Commerce and am wondering if there is any chance I can get that to work.

This app features a way to connect your webcam or dv cam that is connected on the internet, you could set up the ip address and enter the data on the app and it will connect to your online camera. the thing is that they have the video stream and it looks like they embedded the video in a uiview or webview at the bottom they have buttons to choose from all the cameras you have set up. so this is different from other video streaming apps because it does not play the video from the full screen mode (MPMediaPlayer API) would there be any tutorials about this or somehow take reverse engineer this?

    I'm working on some apps for the android platform and I have two problems that I'm not quite sure how to approach, and both are closely related. How can I send a relatively small data file from one android device to another (preferably over the internet or directly through wireless network)? Is it possible to create a temporary p2p live data stream from one android device to another? An example application would be to stream low-res video from phone A's camera to phone B, or audio. I would much appreciate being pointed in the right direction on either issue (File transfer or real time data transfer).

  • XSLT workflow with variable number of source files

    I have a bunch of XML files with a fixed, country-based naming schema: report_en.xml, report_de.xml, report_fr.xml, etc. Now I want to write an XSLT style sheet that reads each of these files via the document() XPath function, extracts some values and generates one XML files with a summary. My question is: How can I iterate over the source files without knowing the exact names of the files I will process? At the moment I'm planning to generate an auxiliary XML file that holds all the file names and use the auxiliary XML file in my stylesheet to iterate. The the file list will be generated with a small PHP or bash script. Are there better alternatives? I am aware of XProc, but investing much time into it is not an option for me at the moment. Maybe someone can post an XProc solution. Preferably the solution includes workflow steps where the reports are downloaded as HTML and tidied up :) I will be using Saxon as my XSLT processor, so if there are Saxon-specific extensions I can use, these would also be OK.

The only common library used between the 2 apps is the FlurryAgent.jar for analytics. For the top app I have For the bottom app I have in the manifests. The only information I have been able to find out is about libraries (GSON) and needing to use dx but I am using Eclipse so that doesn't help. To make this more difficult, the error does NOT occur on the Android Market. Yet the testers at Amazon say that it FC 5/5 times on each of their devices (I tried using an emulator for their test devices and they worked fine). I know they use "wrapper" code around my app and I think it must be interfering in some way. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Mandatory secret_token in Rails 3 makes it impossible to share the session with the Rails 2 apps. I am storing the session in Redis. What the visitor only gets in the cookie is a session ID. There's no need to encrypt it. Therefore, how to disable secret_token in Rails 3? A secret is required to generate an integrity hash for cookie session data.     I have an application written in QML. Initially, I used the standard C++ bootstrap for the app. int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QApplication app(argc, argv); // A bunch of components and data models written in C++ QQmlApplicationEngine engine; engine.load(QUrl(QStringLiteral("qrc:///main.qml"))); return app.exec(); } The bulk of the app is in QML and the more I work with QML, the happier I am with it and the more I feel comfortable converting the C++ pieces to QML. So, it comes to one risk that I wanted to ask about. If I convert the app to a pure QML application like the kind generated by the Qt Quick UI application wizard with no C++ and designed to be run with qmlscene will I be able to compile it for iOS when the time to port it comes or will I end up just converting it back to the C++ loader form? TL;DR Can pure QML (no C++) apps be compiled and run on iOS devices?

    I saw this post on Sitepoint quoting a statement by Rasmus Lerdorf which goes (according to Sitepoint) as follows: "How can you make PHP fast? Well, you can’t" was his quick answer. PHP is simply not fast enough to scale to Yahoo levels. PHP was never meant for those sorts of tasks. "Any script based language is simply not fast enough". To get the speed that is necessary for truly massive web systems you have to use compiled C++ extensions to get true, scaleable architecture. That is what Yahoo does and so do many other PHP heavyweights. Intrigued by the statement (not to mention the fact that up to now, all I was doing in PHP was small database-based apps), I was wondering how I could "use compiled C++ extensions" with PHP. Any ideas or resources?

    I am in a process to select javascript library for our new web application. This app is not very UI heavy but has forms, reports, search, calendars, tabs and target multiple countries like most web apps. We are a tiny team. Biggest concern is maintainability and readability of the code. We are Python programmers. After evaluating many other javascript frameworks we have narrowed down to mootools and google-closure. We loved mootools syntax. It took us no time to learn. It's like Python. On other hand we were stumped seeing private/public in google closure. It's tempting to go for mootools however, I would love to hear from you about specific advantages these frameworks offer over each other.

    I've been toying with the idea of adding IronPython for extending a scientific application I support. Is this a good or horrible idea? Are there any good examples of IronPython being used in a production application. I've seen Resolver, which is kind of cute. Are there any other apps out there? What I don't get is this. Is it any easier to use IronPython than to just use something like code DOM to create script like extensibility in your application? Anyone have some horror stories or tales of glorious success with IronPython / IronRuby?

    I have a model that has paperclip attachments. The model might be used in multiple rails apps I need to return a full (non-relative) url to the attachment as part of a JSON API being consumed elsewhere. I'd like to abstract the paperclip aspect and have a simple virtual attribute like this: def thumbnail_url self.photo.url(:thumb) end This however only gives me the relative path. Since it's in the model I can't use the URL helper methods, right? What would be a good approach to prepending the application root url since I don't have helper support? I would like to avoid hardcoding something or adding code to the controller method that assembles my JSON. Thank you

In other words, will it be possible to write a entire application in C# in a dynamic language style? And if it is possible, would it be recommended or not. And why, or why not respectively? Will I get all the benefits of a dynamic language without switching to another language?
