• External hard drive doesn't appear in Computer

  I cannot work out why this is happening. I have an external hard drive (which is an old laptop hard drive with an IDE to USB adapter). Plugging it into my computer powers it up. It spins correctly and the lights on the adapter flash normally. Uninstalling from hardware manager and plugging it back in causes Windows to "install new software", and it says it has installed properly. In Disk Management it comes up in the bottom part as Disk 2 with the right size (~60 GB), but not in the top half. There are three empty drives in the top half. They don't have titles or drive letters. Right clicking them bring up slightly varying context menus, but all with the options disabled. Here is a picture of my Disk Management screen: How do I make this drive show up in My Computer? I need to format it and use it as an external hard drive.

• How can I move a polygon edge 1 unit away from the center?

  Let's say I have a polygon class that is represented by a list of vector classes as vertices, like so: var Vector = function(x, y) { this.x = x; this.y = y; }, Polygon = function(vectors) { this.vertices = vectors; }; Now I make a polygon (in this case, a square) like so: var poly = new Polygon([ new Vector(2, 2), new Vector(5, 2), new Vector(5, 5), new Vector(2, 5) ]); So, the top edge would be [poly.vertices[0], poly.vertices[1]]. I need to stretch this polygon by moving each edge away from the center of the polygon by one unit, along that edge's normal. The following example shows the first edge, the top, moved one unit up: The final polygon should look like this new one: var finalPoly = new Polygon([ new Vector(1, 1), new Vector(6, 1), new Vector(6, 6), new Vector(1, 6) ]); It is important that I iterate, moving one edge at a time, because I will be doing some collision tests after moving each edge. Finally, the example shows a square, but the polygons in question could be anything. They will always be convex, and always with vertices in clockwise order.

• How to recreate missing Team Foundation Server database?

  I've been trying out TFS 2010 Beta 2 on my local machine, or at least, had installed ready to do so. I had some issues with my MSSQL2008 server so I completely uninstalled and re-installed it and that sorted it. However, I'm now in limbo with TFS. I have the software installed, but it has none of the SQL databases installed that go with it. I had no data and am not precious about how to go about it. I figure completely uninstalling and re-installing might be an idea and will most likely fix it (repair didn't work). Is there a quicker way? Is there a command line utility that I can run, or a SQL script to recreate it all?

• Stage3D: Camera pans the whole screen

  I am trying to create a 2D Stage3D game where you can move the camera around the level in an RTS style. I thought about using Orthographic Matrix3D functions for this but when I try to scroll the whole "stage" also scrolls. • SQLAuthority News – My Evaluation of Singapore SharePoint Conference

  Earlier this year I presented at SQLAuthority News – Presenting at South East Asia SharePoint Conference – Oct 26, 27, 2010 – Singapore. I felt very good to be presenting at Singapore as SharePoint Conference as I was the only SQL Speaker at the event. The event was filled with SharePoint enthusiasts and lots of other experts from all around the globe. The event was one of the best organized event, I attended in subcontinent. I just received my feedback score of the event. I was very much surprised and stunned. My ratting are very high as well, my demo were considered as one of the best demo of the whole event. I am not sure how much feedback I can share with community as organizer did not specify to me but I am very certain that I am allowed to share my own feedback. Speaker – 4.39 (best score 4.74, average 3.84) Contents – 4.37 (best score 4.39, average 3.65) Demo – 4.48 (best score, 4.48, average 3.61) I am very glad that all of my efforts to do presentations at SharePoint Conference are finally paid up. I was very much worried earlier if attendees will accept me or not as I am coming as speaker from foreign technology and no one knows me there. I must thank all of you for the same. • Lenovo ThinkPad L520 slows down when AC power adapter is plugged in

  I have a new laptop Lenovo ThinkPad L520 (7859-5BG) Core i5-2520M(2.5GHz) with 4GB RAM. Having installed Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit, while browsing with Chrome on GNOME classic (no effects), I noticed 173% CPU usage by chrome browser process, and the system slowly got very very slow, Now, at this stage as I removed the power adapter, the system suddenly got faster (and stopped the lagging behavior) and CPU usage drops down to 48% !! Observation 1: I was browsing through chrome when my system seemed to be seriously lagging, so I killed chrome to see if it gets any faster. But there remained no difference. Notice that CPU usage was a bit strange here. It showed no high activity, but as soon as I would click on applications in gnome panel, it would shoot CPU usage to 70, or 80 or 90 or 143% etc. depending on how quickly i clicked back and forth. At this instance I removed by AC adapter of my laptop, and suddenly system got fine. So i again clicked on gnome panel, and noticed that it now took only 7% or 12% or 13% at max, with same kind of clicks in application menu. Observation 2: At the other times, with AC adapter plugged in, top indicates four instances of chromium taking 90%, 60%, 47% and 2% (for example), and then once I take out the AC adapter same processes take lesser CPU all of a sudden Intermediate conclusions: What does this indicate ? I cannot figure out any "other" process in "top" that is suddenly being triggered, its the same process that hogs up my CPU once AC power is plugged in ! NOTE: the problem is now CONFIRMED, as i can repeat that when I have power adapter plugged in ! Can anyone tell me what exactly does this indicate ? What is wrong, is it some bug with power management or what ?

• How do I install windows wireless driver for TP-Link TL-WN7200ND

  I'm using the TP-Link TL-WN7200ND USB wireless adapter. I have downloaded the Windows drivers and updated Ubuntu to 10.10 by manually connecting the computer to the router. I also installed ndiswrapper-gtk. I get a Windows Wireless Drivers in my Administration menu, and I was able to get it to read the Windows 7 .inf file. The .inf for XP does not work. It adds it and the driver appears in the list with "Hardware: present". I set up the wireless connection information (ESSID and WPA2-Personal key). Problem: I don't see the network manager icon in the top right of the screen. I managed to manually start it manually using sudo services network-manager restart but it shows no connections in the menu, saying that there's nothing to manage. In my /etc/network/interfaces file I have an entry for the loopback and the standard two-liner for eth0 with dhcp. From memory, something like: iface eth0 auto eth0 dhcp I had read somewhere that 10.10 would have standard support for my wireless adapter (TL-WN7200ND) but that seems not to be the case. However, I don't ever remember having the network-manager icon in the top-right and it does not auto-start at the moment. This was originally an Ubuntu 9.10 install that I've upgraded over time. I also used to use pppoeconf to connect to the net, which might affect the /etc/network/interfaces file?

• Problems installing LYNC on non-domain controler

  I have two servers in this set up. AD and EX, the domain is called mydomain.net The AD is a Windows 2008 Server (32 bit) with Active Directory installed AD only has it's own ip in the DNS-servers list AD.mydomain.net does resolve correctly in the dns EX is a Windows 2008 R2 that is connected to the mydomain.net-domain EX only DNS server is the ip of the ad.mydomain.net There are no firewalls running between the two servers When trying to install Lync 2010 on the EX server I get the following error "Not available :Failure occurred attempting to check the schema state.Please ensure Active Directory is reachable." I can control the AD from EX, also login to it and do successful checks like netdom query /domain:mydomain.net fsmo ...that resolves correctly I suspect there is something fundamentally wrong with my setup, maybe Lync need a 2k8 R2 ad?

• Move flag for follow of a specific color to a folder in Outlook 2003

  I have a user request to be able to create a rule that would move an email in outlook 2003 that the user flagged for follow up to a specific folder. That seemed simple enough till he requested that depending on the flag color they were to be moved to a specific folder. Issue is that in outlook 2003 that's not an option when creating a rule. I know that this is very straight forward in outlook 2007 and 2010 and using the categories feature is very convenient as it displays as a list when you right click.... Though in 2003 categories are not so convenient. as an example the user will flag for follow up as so... Red Flag for sales Blue Flag for requests Green Flag for personal They want a rule that will move all items with a red flag to the sales folder, Green flag to the requests folder and so on.... • Can't boot into Ubuntu from CD, or from Acronis True Image recovery disk

  I can boot my computer off a home-burned-from-ISO-image Windows 7 (x64 or x86) installation CD, without problems. It's a Quad 6600, 4GB RAM, 8800GT and most of the time runs Win7 with no problems. However, if I boot off a CD containing Ubuntu (10.04 or 9.something IIRC), or a recovery disk created with Acronis True Image Home 2010, it: boots starts to load the OS from the CD then hangs ... and I have to reset. I've tried all these CDs on another computer, and they boot up into Ubuntu or Acronis respectively with no problems at all. Any ideas what to look for? Sorry this is a little vague but I have no idea where to start, really ... if there's more information needed I'll edit the question. TIA!

  3 weeks of traveling through Asia and Australia - nearly 500 customers and partners in 8 workshops in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shenzhen, Singapore, Melbourne, Perth and Manila. Great people in all places, many interesting discussions, several new reference prospects for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 - YOU should upgrade as well pretty soon :-) But now it's time to go home. We are a bit exhausted but we really enjoyed it talking to and with you. And I'd suppose we'll meet again the sooner or later. Thanks to everybody - and special thanks to the local colleagues and especially to Abe-san, Kota-san, Blair Layton and Shaheen Ismail for taking care on us, organizing our workshops and the whole setup!!!

• Oracle VM 3: New Patch Set! (or Mega Millions winner?...you decide!..)

  Today, my favorite number is 14736185 (despite the fact that it did not win me $249million in the MegaMillions lottery...or did it?)!  Why?  Because it is our latest patch release and it is chock-full of good stuff for the Oracle VM 3.0 user.  Oracle VM support customers can find it on My Oracle Support as patch number 14736185.   This can be installed on Oracle VM 3.0.x systems as an incremental patch on top of 3.0.3, so if you previously ran 3.0.3 GA or updated to 3.0.3 patch 1 ( build 150) this will just apply on top.  We're recommending you update to this patch set at your earliest convenience.  For more details, see below but also see Wim Coekaert's blog with related info here.   Is it syntactically correct to delimit multiple email recipients in the "To" header of an email with spaces only or do I need to use another delimiter (a semicolon or the like)? Example (MIME data reads as follows): Date: Mon, 04 Oct 2010 06:14:16 +0200 From: [email protected] To: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Subject: Test Subject The above will be processed by many email processing applications, but I need to know whether it's correct according to standard (RFC). • South Florida .Net Code Camp - February 12th, 2011

  Later this week, I will be heading to our annual South Florida .Net Code Camp, an all-day free “Geek Fest” taking place on February 12th, 2011.This year’s code camp will be conveniently taking place at Nova Southeastern University in Ft Lauderdale.   With more than 700 already registered, this year’s event is bound to exceed last year’s registration and attendance. We are also fortunate to have secured the backing of a large number of our kind sponsors, supporters and volunteers, with our efforts led by our chief organizer, Fladotnet founder and Microsoft MVP, Dave Noderer.   As a member of the volunteer organizing team, I have gotten a good exposure on what it takes to run a code camp and gotten to appreciate the tremendous amount of work such a large event takes to put together to handle logistics such as venue, food, speaker registration and scheduling, website updates; that of course in addition to the essential outreach efforts necessary to secure sponsorships.   As Dave puts it, Code Camp is a great venue for those who want to gain exposure and experience as technical speakers to try it out just as much as it being a forum for experienced speakers to share the latest on their topics of interest. So far, 65 speakers are already scheduled to speak, bringing us an array of diverse topics.   I will be speaking on ASP.Net MVC3, the Razor view engine and present a brief introduction to NUGet.
