  • Why do most web hosting services support only php as server-side language?

    Hello, I have been working with java and python, so I found a nice web host which has support for these. But my question is, why can you find so hard such hosts? I understand that php is easy, I also understand that oracle host is hard to find ($$$ of course), but what do they have against some good open-source, completely free java spring, jsp, django, python, ror, perl etc etc .... So rare to find hosts ... not to mention freelancer bids Thank you.

  • Unable to find assembly, C#

    So, here's the deal. I've got two ASP.NET applications, both of which use SQLServer Session State management. They also both use the same server. I've got a custom session class in an external DLL, which fully implements serialization, and which both applications have referenced. Each application, in turn, has a class which inherits from the DLL class, and both applications use their own respective classes for their session state. Now, what I was trying to accomplish was that if you wanted to go to the other application, it could look in the session (they all use the same session key) and treat the existing object there as the base (the one from the DLL), extract whatever login info you need, then overwrite the session object with your own. Unfortunately, when the second application attempts to read the session, it seems that it looks for the DLL of the first application, and when it can't find it, it throws an exception. Is there a flaw in my logic?   • Can I update window.location.hash without having the web page scroll?

    Using JavaScript, is there a way to update window.location.hash without scrolling the web page? I have clickable title elements that toggle the visibility of a div directly beneath them. I want the /foo#bar in the history when clicking titles but don't want the page scrolling about. So when navigating away from /foo#bar I'll be able to use the back button and have the div whose ID is in window.location.hash be visible upon return. Is this behavior possible?

  • Is it possible in .NET to set the local endpoint (IP address) when using webclient to consume a web

    I'm wondering if it is possible using .NET to call a remote web service and in effect specify which IP the call is made on. I'm consuming a service that limits the number of calls I can make based on IP. The service costs in the 20k range after the free limit is used up. I'm very close to enough calls but not quite there using the free service. My server has 3 IP so I could in effect triple the number of calls I could make to the remote service by changing the IP.

  • Does System.Web.mail (CDonts) issue smtp quit commands?

    .net System.Net.Mail does not issue SMTP quit commands in version 3.5 or lower. Although the problem is fixed in .net v4.0 RTM, unfortunately v4.0 cannot handle attachments in an email larger than 3-4MB's so I can't use it in my solution. I was thinking of maybe rolling back to the now outdated CDonts found in System.Web.Mail. Can anyone confirm if CDonts mailing routines explicitly issues SMTP Quit commands?

    I would like a web interface for a user to describe a one-dimensional real-valued function. I'm imagining the user being presented with a blank pair of axes and they can click anywhere to create points that are thick and draggable. Double-clicking a point, let's say, makes it disappear. The actual function should be shown in real time as an interpolation of the user-supplied points.   • What's the best CDN for image hosting on a high-volume web site?

    Akamai is way too expensive. Photobucket is not reliable. Is there a great content delivery network that I can use just to host my images? We deploy images programmatically via FTP, so there is some programming behind the scenes. Having some sort of reporting about the reliability of the service, whether it's raw logs files or a web-based admin screen that shows http errors, would also be important. Has anyone worked with edgecast?
