  • python how to find the median of a list

    - by user3450574
I'm trying to write a function named median that takes a list as an input and returns the median value of the list. I'm working with Python 2.7.2 The list can be of any size and the numbers are not guaranteed to be in any particular order. If the list contains an even number of elements, the function should return the average of the middle two. This is the code I'm starting with: def median(list): print(median([7,12,3,1,6,9]))

  • Is there a common practice how to make freeing memory for Garbage Collector easier in .NET?

    - by MartyIX
I've been thinking if there's a way how to speed up freeing memory in .NET. I'm creating a game in .NET (only managed code) where no significant graphics is needed but still I would like to write it properly in order to not to lose performance for nothing. For example is it useful to assign null value to objects that are not longer needed? I see this in a few samples over Internet. Thanks for answers!

  • Shopping Cart with multiple orders in ASP

    - by Joao Heleno
I'm building an e-commerce website in ASP.Net/C# and I'm having some difficulties with my shopping cart... I want my costumers to be able to say "I want X boxes, and each box carries Y items". Let's say, for instance, my website sells flowers. A client logs in and then chooses X bouquets and then for each bouquet he adds flowers from the catalog. Can you point me out some links or tips in order to achieve this behaviour? Thanks

  • Unit test helper methods?

    - by Aly
Hi, I have classes which prviously had massive methods so i subdivided the work of this method into 'helper' methods. These helper methods are declared private to enforce encapsulation - however I want to unit test the big public methods, is it good to unit test the helper methods too as if one of them fail the public method that calls it will also fail - but this way we can identify why it failed. Also in order to test these using a mock object I would need to change their visibility from private to protected, is this desirable?

  • What are the books about Open-Source that everyone interested in should read?

    - by Edu Zamora
Currently I am working and running my first Open-Source project and though I am quite happy how things are working so far, I have the feeling that a lot of things could be done better. So, what books about Open-Source would you recommend me in order to help filling this gap and making things better every day? What are the books that influenced you the most? I am especially interested in: - How to organize and run an Open-Source project - Best practices - Manage and involve users and developers - How to announce and do the releases - Legal issues

  • Difference of function argument as (const int &) and (int & a) in C++

    - by Narek
I know that if you write void function_name(int& a), then function will not do local copy of your variable passed as argument. Also have met in literature that you should write void function_name(const int & a) in order to say compiler, that I dont want the variable passed as argument to be copied. So my question: what is the difference with this two cases (except that "const" enshures that the variable passes will not be changed by function!!!)???

  • Best Format for a Software Engineer's Resume

    - by Adam Haile
I am looking for good, objective ideas and examples of a resume for a Software Engineer. By all means, post a link to your own resume if you are comfortable with doing so. Mostly I am looking at how it should be formatted and what kind of information should be included (and in what order on the resume.)

  • Find a regular expression that matches a string?

    - by Mirai
I need a model for finding all of the regular expressions that would match a particular string. Basically, I need an algorithm for doing what I do to generate a regex search string from some pattern. My purpose for this to create a list of potential regular expressions from a selection of text and order that list from least specific (i.e. string of characters with abitrary length) to most specific (i.e. the string itself) to be used in text editor.

  • How to reorder type members with Resharper?

    - by AngryHacker
Typical scenario: a class that a lot of people have worked on. I'd like to sort methods, properties, etc... in alphabetical order. I'd like to be able to do this within the region or globally in the class. I see the feature in Resharper to do it, but it does not seem to do anything.

I would like to apply my function to only elements that are deeper in the list structure. For example, I would like to apply a certain function to list elements of second order only. Is this feasible with apply()? > str(l) List of 3 $ :List of 2 ..$ : num 5 ..$ : num 10 $ :List of 2 ..$ : num 15 ..$ : num 20 $ :List of 2 ..$ : num 25 ..$ : num 30
