• Windows 7 x64 wired connection problem. IP, gateway, dns assigned, can't ping. Network detected as "Network"

  I am having a problem connecting to a specific wired network with my Latitude E6410 laptop. Other wired networks seem to work fine, but this one does not. I have a coworker with me with the same Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network card, and he can connect just fine. I've updated to the latest Intel drivers (11.8.75.0) and am not using Pro Set. I obtain all DHCP information just fine (IP, netmask, DNS server, default gateway). I cannot ping anything (internal or on the Internet - I tried pinging Google's public DNS servers by IP 8.8.8.8), nor can I get answers to any DNS queries through NS Lookup. Windows troubleshooting says everything is fine, but I can't get DNS responses. I've seen issues like this in the past that were related to link speed/duplex autonegotiaion failures, so I've tried manually setting link speed/duplex to all values one by one with no success. My coworker is using all default settings, so he is just using autonegotiate. Any ideas of other things to try?

  Hi everyone, this is a follow up from this question. Let me start by saying that i am NOT a DBA, so i'm really really lost with this. A few weeks ago, we lost contact with one of our SID'S. All the other services are working, but this one in particular is not. What we got was this message when trying to connect ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress An attempt to alter database open ended up in ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 6 - see DBWR trace file ORA-01110: data file 6: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/xxx/xxx_data.dbf' I tried to shutdown / restart the database, but got this message. Total System Global Area 566231040 bytes Fixed Size 1220604 bytes Variable Size 117440516 bytes Database Buffers 444596224 bytes Redo Buffers 2973696 bytes Database mounted. ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 6 - see DBWR trace file ORA-01110: data file 6: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/xxx/xxx_data.dbf' When all continued the same, I erased the dbf files (rm xxx_data.dbf xxx_index.dbf), and recreated them using touch xxx_data.dbf. I also tried to recreate the tablespaces using `CREATE TABLESPACE DATA DATAFILE XXX_DATA.DBF` and got Database not open As I said, i don't know how bad this is, or how far i'm from gaining access to my database (well, to this SID at least, the others are working). I would imagine that a last resource would be to throw everything away, and recreating it, but I don't know how to, and I was hoping there's a less destructive solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.

  The end goal here is that I am trying to install an Oracle 10g server on my Windows 7 x64 dev box. I use DHCP, and the Oracle installer is throwing up this warning: Checking Network Configuration requirements ... Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<< Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned. Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP. I have installed the loopback adapter, but I am not sure how to make it the primary network adapter. I see this Microsoft KB article on the subject but it's Windows XP-oriented, and I can't seem to find a comparable one for Windows 7. Some of the options it talks about don't seem to be present in the views of the adapters that I see. So, how can I make the loopback adapter become the primary adapter?

• Gateway laptop module bay light repeating 12 flashes - what error is that?

  I have a Gateway M465-E laptop currently running fine with a T2300E Core Duo installed. I wanted to upgrade it to a Core 2 Duo. My brother has the same model laptop and that took a Core 2 Duo (T7200) just fine. Picked up a T7200 on ebay and installed it. Normally when booting all the indicator lights flash once and the fan spins up before the machine actually starts to POST. With the T7200 installed all the lights flash and the fan spins up, but the module bay activity light flashes 12 times repeatedly. I'm assuming this is an error code, but can find no information about it. There are no beep codes. I've removed the ram, HD, Bay module and no change. Switched back to the T2300E and everything works fine. Anyone know what that error code is? The motherboard was actually manufactured by Foxconn if that helps. Update 1 Returned the CPU as defective. I tested it in 3 M465-E's and all of them did exactly the same thing. I still have no idea what the error code is. I'd still like to know for future reference. Perhaps I should try removing the CPU from one of them and see what happens.

  We have configured Nginx as a reverse proxy to an Apache server farm, but I'm running into trouble with the gateway timeouts. Our Goal in human readable form is: "Deliver a request within one second, but if it really takes longer, deliver anyway", which for me translates into "Try the first Apache server in upstream for max 500ms. If we get a timeout / an error, try the next one and so on until we finally succeed." Now our relevant configuration is this: location @proxy { proxy_pass http://apache$request_uri; proxy_connect_timeout 1s; proxy_read_timeout 2s; } [...] upstream apache { server 127.0.0.1:8001 max_fails=1 fail_timeout=10s; server 10.1.x.x:8001 max_fails=1 fail_timeout=10s backup; server 10.1.x.x:8001 max_fails=1 fail_timeout=10s backup; server 10.1.x.x:8001 max_fails=1 fail_timeout=10s backup; } The problem here is that nginx seems to misunderstand this as "Try to get a response from the whole upstream cluster within one second and deliver a 50X error if we don't - without any limit on how long to try any upstream server", which is obviously not what we had in mind. Is there any way to get nginx to do what we want?

• Using PHP OCI8 with 32-bit PHP on Windows 64-bit

  The world migration from 32-bit to 64-bit operating systems is gaining pace. However I've seen a couple of customers having difficulty with the PHP OCI8 extension and Oracle DB on Windows 64-bit platforms. The errors vary depending how PHP is run. They may appear in the Apache or PHP log: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\ext\php_oci8_11g.dll' - %1 is not a valid Win32 application. or Warning oci_connect(): OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries Other than IIS permission issues a common cause seems to be trying to use PHP with libraries from an Oracle 64-bit database on the same machine. There is currently no 64-bit version of PHP on http://php.net/ so there is a library mismatch. A solution is to install Oracle Instant Client 32-bit and make sure that PHP uses these libraries, while not interferring with the 64-bit database on the same machine. Warning: The following hacky steps come untested from a Linux user: Unzip Oracle Instant Client 32-bit and move it to C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\INSTANTCLIENT_11_2. You may need to do this in a console with elevated permissions. Edit your PATH environment variable and insert C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\INSTANTCLIENT_11_2 in the directory list before the entry for the Oracle Home library. Windows makes it so all 32-bit applications that reference C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 actually see the contents of the C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64 directory. Your 64-bit database won't find an Instant Client in the real, physical C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory and will continue to use the database libraries. Some of our Windows team are concerned about this hack and prefer a more "correct" solution that (i) doesn't require changing the Windows system directory (ii) doesn't add to the "memory" burden about what was configured on the system (iii) works when there are multiple database versions installed. The solution is to write a script which will set the 64-bit (or 32-bit) Oracle libraries in the path as needed before invoking the relevant bit-ness application. This does have a weakness when the application is started as a service. As a footnote: If you don't have a local database and simply need to have 32-bit and 64-bit Instant Client accessible at the same time, try the "symbolic" link approach covered in the hack in this OTN forum thread. Reminder warning: This blog post came untested from a Linux user.

  I have installed encfs and started using it to secure all my personal & office data and it was working absolutely fine until 2 hours back. The setup is like this. I have a folder in Copy folder called OfficeData which gets synchronized with my Copy folder When I login into the system I use the command encfs ~/Copy/OfficeData ~/Documents/OfficeData Once my work is over I dismount with the command fusermount -u ~/Documents/OfficeData All this data get synchronized with my desktop and with my mobile phone (as a backup) Today when I mounted, the folder got mounted by no directories and files present in that folder. This post encourages to know BRM starting with the basics. History Portal was a billing and revenue managament solution to communications industry created by Portal Software. In 2006 Oracle acquired Portal Software and the solution was renamed BRM. Today Oracle BRM is the first end-to-end packaged enterprise software suite for the communications industry, however BRM is just one more product in the catalog of OSS solutions that Oracle offers. BRM can bill and manage all communications services including wireline, wireless, broadband, cable, voice over IP, IPTV, music, and video. Through these layers are the data, bussines logic and interfaces to connect graphical client tools.Application tier This layer provides GUI client tools enabling communication to other layers through open APIs. Solution DeployedIMPI worked with Oracle Consulting to implement Oracle WebCenter Content to develop electronic inquiry service - services that were previously provided in person only - by digitizing and managing documents. They use Oracle Database 11g, Enterprise Edition to manage data for all mission-critical systems, automating patent and trademark transactions, providing consistent, readily available, and accurate data. IMPI developed a Web site to support newly digitized information with simple and flexible interfaces, making patent-related information easily available online to the public. • Java Certification Exams and Their Move to Pearson VUE

  You may be aware that Oracle recently migrated all Sun-branded certification exams from Prometric to Pearson VUE. Below are answers to some frequently-asked questions that we've been getting recently: What changes to the exams should I be aware of?Only minor changes were made to the exams during the transition to Pearson VUE: Renumbering of all exams to the Oracle exam numbering structure (i.e. 1Z0...). Most exam score reports were enhanced to provide more detailed feedback. Score reports now list every exam objective for which a question (or questions) were answered incorrectly. The previous format provided only section-level performance feedback. For three Java exams, some lengthy (time-consuming) questions were removed & replaced with shorter (less time-consuming) questions. This was done in order to shorten the required exam time (to 150 minutes). Some interactive question types were removed from several Java and Solaris exams (including "matching" and "drag-and-drop" questions). The passing scores (for the exams that were revised) were statistically adjusted to make them equal to their prior passing scores, thus ensuring that the exams maintained the same level of difficulty as before. The exam objectives and the exam questions themselves did not change. Candidates should study the same material and objectives. Are there also new testing practices I should be aware of?Oracle follows a common industry practice of placing occasional un-scored questions on our certification exams. Candidates will not know which questions are unscored. At the time of this blog post, only one of the migrated exams (1Z0-898) contains unscored questions.I started the Master certification path through Prometric, and now I need to complete the requirements through Pearson VUE. • Move Data into the grid for scalable, predictable response times

  CloudTran is pleased to introduce the availability of the CloudTran Transaction and Persistence Manager for creating scalable, reliable data services on the Oracle Coherence In-Memory Data Grid (IMDG). Use of IMDG architectures has been key to handling today’s web-scale loads because it eliminates database latency by storing important and frequently access data in memory instead of on disk. The CloudTran product lets developers easily use an IMDG for full ACID-compliant transactions without having to be concerned about the location or spread of data. The system has its own implementation of fast, scalable distributed transactions that does NOT depend on XA protocols but still guarantees all ACID properties. Plus, CloudTran asynchronously replicates data going into the IMDG to back-end datastores and back-up data centers, again ensuring ACID properties. CloudTran can be accessed through Java Persistence API (JPA via TopLink Grid) and now, through a new Low-Level API, or LLAPI. This is ideal for use in SOA applications that need data reliability, high availability, performance, and scalability. It is still in its limited beta release, the LLAPI gives developers the ability to use standard put/remove logic available in Coherence and then wrap logic with simple Spring annotations or XML+AspectJ to start transactions. An important feature of LLAPI is the ability to join transactions. This is a common outcome for SOA applications that need to reduce network traffic by aggregating data into single cache entries and then doing SOA service processing in the node holding the data. This results in the need to orchestrate transaction processing across multiple service calls. CloudTran has the capability to handle these “multi-client” transactions at speed with no loss in ACID properties. Developing software around an IMDG like Oracle Coherence is an important choice for today’s web-scale applications and services. But this introduces new architectural considerations to maintain scalability in light of increased network loads and data movement. Without using CloudTran, developers are faced with an incredibly difficult task to ensure data reliability, availability, performance, and scalability when working with an IMDG. Working with highly distributed data that is entirely volatile while stored in memory presents numerous edge cases where failures can result in data loss. The CloudTran product takes care of all of this, leaving developers with the confidence and peace of mind that all data is processed correctly. • String patterns that can be used to filter and group files

  One of our application filters files in certain directory, extract some data from it and export a document from the extracted data. The algorithm for extracting the data depends on the file, and so far we use regex to select the algorithm to be used, for example .*\.txt will be processed by algorithm A, foo[0-5]\.xml will be processed by algo B, etc. However now we need some files to be processed together. For example, in one case we need two files, foo.*\.xml and bar.*\.xml. Part of the information to be extracted exist in the foo file, and the other part in the bar file. Moreover, we need to make sure the wild card is compatible. For example, if there are 6 files foo1.xml foo23.xml bar1.xml bar9.xml bar23.xml foo4.xml I would expect foo1 and bar1 to be identified as a group, and foo23 and bar23 as another group. bar9 and foo4 has no pair, so they will not be treated. Now, since the filter is configured by user, we need to have a pattern that can express the above requirement. I don't think you can express meaning like above in standard regex. (foo|bar).*\.xml will match all 6 file above and we can't identify which file is paired for a particular file. Is there any standard pattern that can express it? Or any idea how to modify regex to support this, that can be implemented easily?
