• My computter wont shutdown

  If I try to shutdown my computer it simply takes me back to the login-screen. I looked around and found : Type in terminal: 1. sudo gedit /etc/default/grub 2. Find the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" 3. Change this to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" 4. Save the file and close the file. 5. Finally, in terminal: sudo update-grub but now there is a new problem. if I try step 5 it says: myname@ubuntu:~$ sudo update-grub [sudo] password for myname: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?). myname@ubuntu:~$ I am new whit linux and dont know what to do.

• Getting wifi working on 14.04

  I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. When I plug in the ethernet cable the internet works fine, but I can't see any wireless network in the networking manager. The wifi switch is definitely on on my laptop! It's a Dell XPS M1330.   NetBeans 7.1 RC 1 is here. Grab it from the usual place! As previously discussed, NetBeans 7.1 has full JavaFX 2.0 support but also a lot in store for Java EE and Web developers (CDI in particular is very neat). One of my personal favorite feature is that Deploy on Save is now set by default on Maven projects. Maybe one important part that didn't get proper coverage so far is CSS 3 support, an important feature which can be used from both Java EE and PHP but also from JavaFX. Java Downloads of NetBeans 7.1 start at 69 MB and a 166 MB download will get you everything you need to start coding right away with Java EE - a great tool and a fully integrated runtime (GlassFish 3.1.1). You really need to be not using Maven, not be interested in recent standards (Java EE 6, Java SE 7, Java FX 2.0, ...) and like to hand-craft assemble your IDE to afford ignoring NetBeans nowadays.

• Is it possible to use the Raring install image as a package repo (like the old alternate CD)?

  I use Kubuntu and recently upgraded to Raring directly from Precise. Until Precise, I always installed the OS using the alternate CD and not the desktop CD, because I could later on mount the image and use it as an offline package repo. For instance if I remove a package installed by the default installer and later I want to install it again, I can just install it from the ISO without needing to download it again. However, since Quantal the alternate CD no longer exists, so I am not sure how to set up the installed image as a local repo. I mean, doing find . -name "*.deb" inside the ISO tree after loopmounting it only shows a few packages like libc6 gcc and such and not the full set of packages that are actually installed -- I presume they are included in pre-installed form inside casper/filesystem.squashfs. Given this situation, is it or is it not possible to use the Raring install images as offline repos? If yes, how? Thank you!

• 12.04 boot failure after update

  I am using 12.04 and updated using Synaptic Package Manager. Now, however, when I turn on the machine it fails to boot, just a blank screen. If I shut off the machine and start it again and press F12 (on my laptop) to get the boot menu and select the default for HD-0 it boots OK. I had previously used Update Center and had a similar problem, which I corrected by reverting to "Previous" setup. Are there any fixes for this problem or am I unique in this situation. • Need help with fixing Genetic Algorithm that's not evolving correctly

  I am working on a maze solving application that uses a Genetic Algorithm to evolve a set of genes (within Individuals) to evolve a Population of Individuals that power an Agent through a maze. The majority of the code used appears to be working fine but when the code runs it's not selecting the best Individual's to be in the new Population correctly. When I run the application it outputs the following: Total Fitness: 380.0 - Best Fitness: 11.0 Total Fitness: 406.0 - Best Fitness: 15.0 Total Fitness: 344.0 - Best Fitness: 12.0 Total Fitness: 373.0 - Best Fitness: 11.0 Total Fitness: 415.0 - Best Fitness: 12.0 Total Fitness: 359.0 - Best Fitness: 11.0 Total Fitness: 436.0 - Best Fitness: 13.0 Total Fitness: 390.0 - Best Fitness: 12.0 Total Fitness: 379.0 - Best Fitness: 15.0 Total Fitness: 370.0 - Best Fitness: 11.0 Total Fitness: 361.0 - Best Fitness: 11.0 Total Fitness: 413.0 - Best Fitness: 16.0 As you can clearly see the fitnesses are not improving and neither are the best fitnesses. • jsf submit button not wrking

  I am using hx:commandExButton of IBM Faces Client Framework to call my method. But the method is not getting called. But if I use immediate="true" it's getting called. But as you all know with this my model won't get updated, so it has no use to me. Has anyone faced this? • Pass data from one form to another on a seperate page

  I am building a price/distance calculator with Google Maps API and am trying to pass the info from the calculator to a booking form on a separate page. My first form has 2 submit buttons - one to make the calculation, and one to submit the relevant data to the booking form. I'm stuck trying to make the 2nd button work. Once the API calculation has been made, I get 4 values - From, To, Cost, Distance. I am trying to pass the From, To and Cost values into my booking form by clicking the second button. But I can;t seem to get it to work. I've tried POST and GET but I think I may have been doing something wrong with both. Any help is appreciated.   I have a form which is essentially an autocomplete input box. I can get this to work perfectly for a single text box. What I need to do is create unique input boxes by using a php for loop. This will use the counter $i to give each input box a unique name and id. The problem is that the unique value of the input box needs to be passed to the javascript. this will then pass the inputted data to the external php page and return the mysql results.   Running Apache2 on Ubuntu Precise64 in Vagrant. When I try to start it, it says: vagrant@precise64:/etc/apache2$ /etc/init.d/apache2 start * Starting web server apache2 * * The apache2 configtest failed. Output of config test was: AH00534: apache2: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. Action 'configtest' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. But the thing is, my /etc/apache2/apache2.conf file doesn't call for MPM anywhere! I would paste it here but it would make for a huge post... I tried looking up the error log, but I can't find that anywhere, either. Help?

I'm not talking about SmartScreen feature available in IE but the feature that is available in File Explorer. Control Panel Action Center Change Windows SmartScreen settings I searched in group policy but couldn't find anything that is preventing me from enabling it. Update 1: My user is a member of administrators group. Other things work fine. When I try to change something that needs administrative permission, UAC window appears, but nothing here.

  I have a Server Running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition With SQL 2005. There is no problems with the server in its day to day functions but i am getting a Warning in the Event Log every 5 minutes with the following: Windows System Resource Manager encountered the following error 0x80010117. User Name will not be logged in the subsequent event logs. Error 0x80010117 User Action Address the error condition, and then try again. This has been happening for over 2 weeks now and i cannot find anything online to help! If i could have some help, then it would much appreciated. Thanks

• Apache2 can't close connections with restart

  I'm running a Debian webserver with Apache2 and the restart command started giving me an error. root@srv:~# service apache2 stop Stopping web server: apache2. root@srv:~# service apache2 start Starting web server: apache2(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs Action 'start' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. failed! Occasionally it actually will restart without a problem but usually I have to killall -9 apache2 first. Someone on the Debian IRC had me check my active apache2 connections and it turns out they aren't quitting and dozens of them are staying open. How can I get these to eventually time out?

It appears that I am being redirected to https://www.mydomain.com/ which causes my browser to hang. I do not have SSL encryption turned on, nor do I have any special authorization rules. The web server in question is behind an F5 load balancer. Any ideas?

  When you are watching a screen sharing session commanded by the other user, in other words, you are watching the other user doing stuff in his computer, how do I switch back to my computer without disrupting the other user by stealing the mouse to click on the "My Computer" window? Put simply: To go back to my computer I have to click in the "My computer" little window at the bottom, but that requires me to use the mouse which is being used by the other user. There must be a way to use a keyboard shortcut to perform that action without bothering the other user who is using the mouse to do something important. Anyone? Thanks, -Sergio

• ISA 2006 refuses VPN DHCP requests as spoofing

  I'm running ISA 2006 with PPTP VPN for my AD-controlled network. DHCP is located on the ISA server itself and authentication is done by RADIUS (NPS) located on the DC. Right now my VPN clients can connect, access local DNS, and can ping ISA, the DC, and other clients. Here's where it gets weird. I noticed that despite all this, ipconfig shows the following: PPP adapter North Horizon VPN: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : North Horizon VPN Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.42.4.7(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.42.1.10 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled So I went over and checked my ISA logs for both DHCP requests and replies, only to find out that my VPN clients are being denied because ISA thinks its a spoof. Here's some relevant information from the log (the VPN subnet is 10.42.4.0/24): Client IP: 10.42.4.6 Destination: 255.255.255.255:67 Client Username: (blank) Protocol: DHCP (request) Action: Denied Connection Rule: (blank) Source Network: VPN Clients Destination Network: Local Host Result Code: 0xc0040014 FWX_E_FWE_SPOOFING_PACKET_DROPPED Network Interface: 10.42.4.11 --------------------------------------------------------- Original Client IP: 10.42.4.6 Destination: 10.42.1.1 Client Username: (valid user) Protocol: PING Action: Initiated Connection Rule: Allow PING to ISA Source Network: VPN Clients Destination Network: Local Host Result Code: 0x0 ERROR_SUCCESS Network Interface: (blank) I wasn't sure what this 10.42.4.11 network interface was - it certainly wasn't something I had setup - untill I saw it in Routing and Remote Access under IP Routing General as an interface called "Internal" bound to the same IP address. I also noticed that since ISA takes blocks of 10 IP addresses from DHCP for VPN, it had reserved 10.42.4.2-11. I'm not sure if it means anything, though. Thanks for your help.

  I'm working on a middle-tier project which encapsulates the business logic (uses a DAL layer, and serves a web application server [ASP.net]) of a product deployed in a LAN. The BL serves as a bunch of services and data objects that are invoked upon user action. At present times, the DAL acts as a separate application whereas the BL uses it, but is consumed by the web application as a DLL. Both the DAL and the web application are deployed on different servers inside organization, and since the BL DLL is consumed by the web application, it resides in the same server. The worst thing about exposing the BL as a DLL is that we lost track with what we expose. Deployment is not such a big issue since mostly, product versions are deployed together. Would you recommend migrating from DLL to WCF service? if so, why ? Do you know anyone who had a similar experience ? Thank you !
