My company just canceled the project I was working on because they were dissatisfied with how it was going. I was quite disappointed with it because I thought the project was going well and I had already explained the limitations that the software would have due to the time constraints. I have decided that I will now look for a new job, but I am worried the project ending badly may give me some difficulties. Any advice on how I can minimise the difficulties this causes me without being dishonest?
I've just installed Ubuntu 12.10 64bit on dual boot with windows 7.
I've been looking for a lot of the things people say to download, like myunity
but when I search in the software center, nothing comes up, just stuff like magazines.
Do I need to add some ppas for it to see them?
What are some that I should add on a new install?
And can anyone help me get myunity on here so I can start customising my desktop?
Thanks
Load testing used to be a standard part of the software development, but not anymore. Now people express a preference for assessing performance on the production system. There is a lack of confidence that a load test reflects what will actually happen in production. In essence, it has become accepted that the value of load testing is not worth the cost and time, and perhaps whether there is any value at all. The main problem is the load test plan criteria – excessive focus on perceived importance...(read more)

Following a hectic April, the software giant only has two fixes to offer in its monthly Patch Tuesday security release, though both are deemed "critical."

I am looking for a good book about parallel programming with focus on C++. Something suitable for a person reasonably good in C++ programming, but with no experience in concurrent software development. On the other hand, I'd prefer a practical book, without loads of silly examples about philosophers eating lunch.
Is there a book out there that's the de-facto standard for describing best practices, design methodologies, and other helpful information on parallel programming with focus on C++ ? What about that book makes it special?
I'm currently looking for a good reference/guide for design patterns and in my search I've found the following three books highly recommended:
Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software
Pattern Hatching: Design Patterns Applied
Design Patterns Explained: A New Perspective on Object-Oriented Design
I can't decide which book (if any) to purchase. So, my question is this: What are the fundamental differences between these books?

Nowadays, in order to successfully manage various and complex projects, a project owner has access to a multitude of web based software covering key areas of focus such as scheduling, cost control, budget management, resource allocation, documentation and communication. Managing projects becomes time and resource saving also maximizing collaboration between team members that, in certain situations must stay connected to the partial outcomes.
I'm based in the UK and have been working as a Software Engineer for the past two years. My company has asked me to provide some training courses that I'd like to go to in the next year.
My work currently is primarily in PHP. Although in the past I've dabbled in Python and spent a few months working on a Ruby on Rails project.
Does anyone have any training course recommendations that I should attend?

I'm looking for a place to host a cloud service that well manage data from a App I'm developing. The service I need doesn't have any UI (accessed completely through the App software), and well work on only small requests - but hopefully quite a lot of them. I'm looking for something free that well give me the best - in storage and request handling.
No specific language, but preferably one of the following: Python, C#, Java. (in this order).

I am completely new to programming and game development for that matter. I am using the C++ software to create my Game Engine with the help of a beginners guide. I noticed it has a OpenGL option when starting up a new project. I've heard of OpenGL pertaining to game development, not sure what it is though.
Should I be using OpenGL when creating my Game Engine? Will it matter if I just start with a blank slate?
