• SetSel on EN_SETFOCUS or WM_SETFOCUS doesn't work

  I've ran into next mystic thing in Winapi/MFC, I have an edit box, contents of which I have to select on Tab, Lclick, Rclick, Mclick and so on. The sort of obvious path is to handle the SETFOCUS message and call SetSel(0, -1), which should select all text. But it doesn't work! What's wrong? I tried googling, everyone seems to override Lclilks or handle SetSel in parent windows, but this is wrong from encapsulation point of view, also multiple clicks (user wants to insert something in the middle of the text) will break, and so on. Why isn't my approach working, I tried like 10 different ways, tried to trap all possible focus messages, looked up info on MSDN, but nothing works as expected. Also, I need to recreate the carret on focus, which also doesn't seem to work. SETFOCUS message gets trapped alright. If I add __asm int 3, it breaks every time. It's the create carret and setsel that gets swallowed it seems.

• Mobile Safari Geolocation API Issues

  Hi, since Mobile Safari's Geolocation API should be an implementation of the W3C Geolocation API I found some bugs. I was wondering if anybody noticed the same. As specified in the W3C Geolocation API the PositionCallback returns a Position object, which contains a Coordinates object. In this object all attributes are of type double. Using navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition and checking the Position object in the successCallback the accuracy attribute is always an object, but should be a double. The heading attribute is always -1 when testing in the iPhone simulator, but should be null or between 0 and 360. 2. Setting the options parameter for navigator.geolocation.watchPosition or navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition as specified in the W3C Geolocation API has no effect. No matter what is set as the timeout value, the win callback is called every 10 seconds. For example setting the timeout=1000 should immediately call either the successCallback or errorCallback. • How do I get a bundle reference from inside of a plugin with carbon?

  I'm writing a C++ plugin in Mac OS X using the Carbon framework (yeah, yeah, I know, Apple is deprecating Carbon, but at the moment I can't migrate this code to Cocoa). My plugin gets loaded by a master application, and I need to get a CFBundleRef reference to my plugin so that I can access it's resources. The problem is, when I call CFBundleGetMainBundle() during my plugin's initialization routines, that returns a reference to the host's bundle reference, not the plugin's. How can I get a reference to my plugin's bundle instead? Note: I would rather not use anything determined at compile-time, including calling CFBundleGetBundleWithIdentifier() with a hard-coded string identifier.

• How can I refactor this to use an inline function or template instead of a macro?

If I just replace this with a function taking a const wchar_t[], then the sizeof() will fail to deliver expected results. Simply adding a size member doesn't really solve the problem either. Making the user supply the size of the constant literal also results in a mess of duplicated constants at the call site. Any ideas on this one?

• Line of code doesnt follow sequential execution

  Hi, I'm having a problem with a code that doesnt follow sequential execution although I'm not using threading. • IAuthenticationRequest.RedirectToProvider is not supposed to return, yet it does

  The method DotNetOpenAuth.OpenId.RelyingParty.IAuthenticationRequest.RedirectToProvider() is documented never to return: Redirects the user agent to the provider for authentication. Execution of the current page terminates after this call. However, it does return under the latest implementation (3.4.3).   I've written a big sql script that creates a CSV file. I want to call a cronjob every night to create a fresh CSV file and have it available on the website. Say for example I'm store my file in '/home/sites/example.com/www/files/backup.csv' and my SQL is SELECT * INTO OUTFILE '/home/sites/example.com/www/files/backup.csv' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY '\n' FROM ( .... MySQL gives me an error when the file already exists File '/home/sites/example.com/www/files/backup.csv' already exists Is there a way to make MySQL overwrite the file? I could have PHP detect if the file exists and delete it before creating it again but it would be more succinct if I can do it directly in MySQL.

• Select only items in a specific DIV using HtmlAgilityPack

  I'm trying to use the HtmlAgilityPack to pull all of the links from a page that are contained within a div declared as <div class='content'> However, when I use the code below I simply get ALL links on the entire page. This doesn't really make sense to me since I am calling SelectNodes from the sub-node I selected earlier (which when viewed in the debugger only shows the HTML from that specific div). So, it's like it's going back to the very root node every time I call SelectNodes. The code I use is below: HtmlWeb hw = new HtmlWeb(); HtmlDocument doc = hw.Load(@"http://example.com"); HtmlNode node = doc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode("//div[@class='content']"); foreach(HtmlNode link in node.SelectNodes("//a[@href]")) { Console.WriteLine(link.Value); } Is this the expected behavior? • View controllers inside tab bar controller not auto-rotating

  In an iPad app, I have five regular view controllers (not navigation controllers or anything like that) inside a tab bar controller. The tab bar controller is just a plain UITabBarController declared in the app delegate. All the view controllers return YES in the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method. On both the simulator and device, on rotation, the tab bar rotates properly but the currently selected view controller (call it A) does not. If I switch to another view controller B and then back to A (without rotating the device again), A appears correctly rotated. This happens with any of the five view controllers Why doesn't the currently selected view controller rotate and how do I fix it? Thanks.

  I have a problem calling this function from a c++ DLL in c# INT32 WINAPI PM_COM_GetText(INT32 TextId, char* pBuf, INT32 BufSize); It writes a Text in a buffer for a given text id. • How can I pass data from an aspx page to an ascx modal popup?

  I'm fairly new to ASP.NET and trying to learn how things are done. I come from a C# background so the code-behind portion is easy, but thinking like a web developer is unfamiliar. I have an aspx page that contains a grid of checkboxes. I have a button that is coded via a Button_Click event to collect a list of which rows are checked and create a session variable out of that list. The same button is referenced (via TargetControlID) by my ascx page's ModalPopupExtender which controls the panel on the ascx page. When the button is clicked, the modal popup opens but the Button_Click event is never fired, so the modal doesn't get its session data. Since the two pages are separate, I can't call the ModalPopupExtender from the aspx.cs code, I can't reach the list of checkboxes from the ascx.cs code, and I don't see a way to populate my session variable and then programmatically activate some other hidden button or control which will then open my modal popup. Any thoughts?

• Using one sqlconnection/sqlcommand through 2 DB-bound methods

  I have a class with a method which gets data from a database through a SELECT stored proc. This method uses a SqlDbReader by returning ExecuteReader() on a SqlCommand. The connection and everything is made in this method, with fields (such as connection string) set as class level fields. I now need to populate an array based on the results of this query (so the columns of each row will go into the array with its own index). However, this query will not select all of the data from one table which is involved. I can write the queries to get what I need, but how can I use one connection throughout the class? If I instantiate the connection object and call Open() in the constructor, I get an exception @ runtime. I'm hoping for something like this: // At class level: sqlconn.Open(); // sqlcommand set up Method() { // Fire stored proc // Insert results in a collection } Method2() { // Pass same collection in (use same one), // Add new row columns into same collection } How can I do this with strict performance in mind? • How do I create a reusable WF sequential workflow?

  I have two customers that have the same workflow (Create file -transport file - wait for response - send response to internal team); however the implementation of each step is different for each customer. For example, one customer requires a flat file to be sent via SFTP, while the other customer requires an XML file to be sent via FTP. I'd like to create a sequential workflow, using Microsoft Workflow Foundation (WF) and reuse this workflow for multiple vendors. Each action's call to an external module can use the same interface, but a different concrete implementation. However, I'm unfamiliar with WF and I'm not sure how to implement this. Can someone point me to the proper way to use this pattern? Will it make a difference whether I choose WF 3.5 or WF 4.0? Thank you.

• On Ubuntu, how do you install a newer version of python and keep the older python version?

  Background: I am using Ubuntu The newer python version is not in the apt-get repository (or synaptic) I plan on keeping the old version as the default python when you call "python" from the command line I plan on calling the new python using pythonX.X (X.X is the new version). Given the background, how do you install a newer version of python and keep the older python version? I have downloaded from python.org the "install from source" *.tgz package. The readme is pretty simple and says "execute three commands: ./configure; make; make test; sudo make install;" If I do the above commands, will the installation overwrite the old version of python I have (I definitely need the old version)?

  I am looking at various options for a WCF based publish subscribe framework. Say I have one WCF web service that will be the publisher and 1000 clients registered as subscriber. For some published messages all clients will be interested but at the same time I wish the ability to notify a single client with a specific message. On receiving notification the client will call other web service methods on the web service. Is NServiceBus suitable for this kind of scenario ? If I use MSMQ for transport does it mean that every PC where the client is installed requires a queue to be created ?

• Writing a Compiler for .net - IL or Bytecode?

  I'm currently diving into the inner workings of .net, which means IL. As an exercise, I want to build a brainf..k compiler for .net (yes, they already exist, but as said it's for learning purposes). For the moment I'm just writing some text files that contain .il and compile them with ilasm, which works. But I wonder if I could/should go one level deeper and write bytecode directly? My "concern" is the Windows PE Stuff when compiling an EXE - instead of ilasm I would need some sort of Bytecode linker that would take my MSIL/CIL bytecode and generate the PE Stuff for it? Or do compilers "only" compile their language to IL and execute ilasm? Is there a managed version of it that I can call/embed from my compiler?

  I have a situation where I need to generate a bunch of C# code files in a prebuild step of a project and include the generated files into the current project for compilation. Is there a way to do this cleanly without having to muck with the project file every time the prebuild step is run? My solution should work for both IDE based build and a Team Build based on MSBuild. Since both are MSBuild based, I suspect there won't be much difference; but wanted to call it out. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

  I'm developing a small pet project on Google App Engine and i would like to keep code under source control using github; this will allow a friend of mine to checkout and modify the sources. I just have a directory with all sources (call it PetProject) and Google App Engine development server points to that directory. Is it correct to create a repo directly from PetProject directory or is it preferable to create a second directory mirroring the develop PetProject directory? In the latter case, anytime my friend will release something new, i need to pull fetch from Git copying the modified files to the develop PetProject directory. If i decide to keep the repo inside the develop directory, skipping .git on Gae yaml is enough? What are the best practices here?

• C# Login Dialog Implementation

  I have implemented a LoginAccess class that prompts the user to enter their active directory username and password. Then I save the login data as an encrypted file. Every subsequent start of the application, the LoginAccess class will read the encrypted file and check against the active directory to see if the login information is still valid. If it is not, then it will prompt the user again. I have made it so that the reading of the encrypted file and displaying of the login dialog is done on a separate thread. A delegate is fired when the login process is complete. The issue that I'm having is that I have a class that is used in multiple places. This class contains the call to the LoginAccess object. Every time I instantiate a new object there are multiple calls to the LoginAccess object and I get multiple dialogs appearing when it tries to prompt for a username and password. Any suggestions on how to have only one dialog appear would be greatly appreciated.
