• Restart Trouble Ubuntu 12.10

  I`ve installed Ubuntu 12.10 on 3 different machines: Acer AspireOne Netbook Lenovo T60 Notebook Desktop - P5P77 - Asus mainboard - I3 - porcessor I have the same issue on all of themm they won`t restart (Shut Down work), I can see the proceses are killed but it freezez on black screen total iresponsive. Even when I access the bios config to modify something then Save&Exit then restart I get the same thing. This is the same for all 3 machines. I also cleaned up the desktop system, last version of bios update, full HDD format, fresh win7 installed (practicly no trace of the old Ubuntu 12.10) still the same problem. Some time ago I had Ubuntu 11.10 on the desktop system, it worked perfectly. I also mention that I tried all combinations of ACPI settings in BIOS, unfortunately with no results.   I have recently starting upgrading my ios game to the latest Cocos2D (2.0 rc), and I am having some difficulties upgrading my texture generation code to OpenGL 2.0. What is the best way to use the new OpenGL?

• Application starts as Terminal but not as a Desktop entry

  I just installed SQL Anywhere 12 and can start Sybase Central from the terminal with the command line below without errors: /opt/sqlanywhere12/bin32/scjview However, when I try to start it from a desktop entry I am receiving two error messages that could be something incorrectly defined in the desktop below: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=false Icon[en_US]=gnome-panel-launcher Name[en_US]=Sybase Central Exec=/opt/sqlanywhere12/bin32/scjview Comment[en_US]= Name=Sybase Central Comment= Icon=gnome-panel-launcher Here are the error messages: (unable to post the error images) cannot find libsyblib610_r.so cannot find libulscutil12.so Since the application can be successfully started from a terminal window I was wondering how I could have it setup as a desktop entry as well.

• What standard superseded 830-1998?

  I have been looking into how to document software projects more formally, and I have learned about IEEE 830-1998: Recommended Practice for Software Requirements Specifications. However, as you can see from that link, it has been superseded. I know that 830-1998, and probably even 830-1993, are probably just fine for use. However, if nothing else, I would like to know what standard has superseded it. In this case it may not matter, but if other standards are superseded for more technical things, I think it would be a good idea to link somewhere what standard superseded another (if it is not another one in the same line (830, in this case)). It is worth mentioning that: The most recent standard when searching for "Software Requirements Specifications" or "Software Requirements" on the IEEE Standards Association website is 830-1993, The 2004 (current) version of SWEBOK references 830-1993 (paragraph 2.5), The document's Wikipedia article doesn't mention that the standard was superseded. TLDR: How do you find what standard superseded another, and which one took 830-1998's place?

  This is the  Ineta Live player without the O’Data Feed.  It is a good example of taking the plain Media Player provided with the Encoder install and re-templating it to make it your own.  It also has a custom scrub control that is added in.  I generally put my tempates in a separate resource file.  On this project, I discovered that I had to include the template at the document level because I needed the ability to attach some code behind to fire change state behaviors.  I could not use the blend xaml behaviors for change state inside the template because the template can’ determine the TargetObject. • Trying to update Asus BIOS: FreeDOS crashes

  My UX31 zenbook is experiencing some weird shutdown behavior when the battery drops below 50% and the internet seems to agree that updating the BIOS is a good step forward since there were issue with the kernel before. I downloaded both the correct BIOS file and the windows 7 utility tool and now need to boot FreeDOS to run, however, I've tried every method out there and they all fail (or so I think): Using unetbootin's FreeDOS 1.0 image I get to an error saying it couldn't run drivers then I get to a command line on disk A:. I assumed a dead end. Using unetbootin but with the FreeDOS 1.1 version image downloaded directly: get an error of "bad or missing command interpreter". I looked online and the solutions didn't work either. So, is there an alternative to FreeDOS or to installing a BIOS that I could use?

• How can a Cisco Aironet wireless card connect to a WPA encrypted network?

  I have a Thinkpad T40 running Ubuntu 10.10. I want to connect to wireless networks with WPA encryption; they appear in the network list, but are grayed out. The card does support WPA, since it works in Windows. In 10.10 the wireless works just fine with unprotected and WEP networks, but cannot connect to any WPA networks. The card is a Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. I've been reading a lot of forum posts trying to find a solution, but either encounter threads where no solution was found or answers longer apply (most date from 2007, since this isn't the newest of computers). • Alternative to Firefox's Tab Groups feature for Chromium/Chrome

  Firefox keeps crashing the whole time on my Lubuntu 12.04 since version 12, I don't know why, I am running it on a Pentium IV desktop so might be CPU shortage, however I use the same set of extensions and configurations that I have on Windows' Firefox and it rarely crashes, runs smoothly and besides on Windows it can handle much more tabs opened before some freeze actually happens. Chromium is working better so far on Lubuntu, but I really do miss the Tab Groups Firefox feature, which is great to group tabs and organize them, it really is a boost on my productivity. Are you aware of any add-on which is similar for Chrome/Chromium? I've searched around on Chrome's Web Store but no luck at the moment.

• Yet another GlassFish 3.1.1 promoted build

  Promoted build #9 for GlassFish 3.1.1 is available from the usual location. This is the "soft code freeze" build with only the "hard code freeze" build left before the release candidate. So if you have bugs you'd like to see fixed, voice your opinion *now*. As a quick reminder, GlassFish offers Web Profile or Full Platform distributions in ZIP or installer flavors (some more details in this blog post from last year but still relevant). If you've installed previous promoted builds or simply have the "dev" repository defined, then the Update Center will simply update the existing installed bits. In addition to the earlier update on 3.1.1 it's probably safe to say that this version was carefully designed to be highly compatible with the previous 3.x versions, thus leaving you with little reasons not to upgrade as soon as it comes out this summer.

• How do .so files avoid problems associated with passing header-only templates like MS dll files have?

  Based on the discussion around this question. I'd like to know how .so files/the ELF format/the gcc toolchain avoid problems passing classes defined purely in header files (like the std library). According to Jan in that answer, the dynamic linker/loader only picks one version of such a class to load if its defined in two .so files. So if two .so files have two definitions, perhaps with different compiler options/etc, the dynamic linker can pick one to use. Is this correct? How does this work with inlining? For example, MSVC inlines templates aggressively. This makes the solution I describe above untenable for dlls. Does Gcc never inline header-only templates like the std library as MSVC does? If so wouldn't that make the functionality of ELF described above ineffective in these cases?

  I am trying to run Icewind dale2 from GOG.com in wine on ubuntu 12.04 64bit. I am using the AMD ATI binary blob display driver.   Yesterday I upgraded Ubuntu version from 12.04 to 14.04 from update manager. After upgrading it, my system got automatically restarted and now I am not able to switch to GUI mode. Its showing me command prompt mode only. I have tried ctrl + alt + f7 & sudo apt-get install Ubuntu-desktop And all but its not responding.   To end the year on a good note this release adds support for SQL Server 2011 (Denali) CTP1 and fixes a few bugs. Because of the new SSMS shell in SQL 2011 CTP1 the SSMS Tools Pack 1.9.4 doesn't have regions and debug sections functionality for now. The fixed bugs are: A bug that prevented to create insert statements for a database A bug that didn't script commas as decimal points correctly for non US settings. A bug with searching through grid results. A threading bug that sometimes happened when saving Window Content History. A bug with Window Connection Coloring throwing an error on startup if a server colors was undefined. A bug with changing shortcuts in SSMS for various features. When I use this class, is it good to use unnamed object to invoke its method? normal: TaxFileParser tax_parser(tax_file_name); auto content = tax_parser.get_content(); or unnamed object version: auto content = TaxFileParser(tax_file_name).get_content(); Because I've told that we should avoid temporary as possible. • client website compromised, found a strange .php file. any ideas?

  I do support work for a web development company and I found a suspicious file today on the website of one of our clients called "hope.php" which contained several eval(gzuncompress(base64_decode('....'))) commands (which on a site like this, usually indicates that they've been hacked). Searching for the compromised site on google, we got a bunch of results which link to hope.php with various query strings that seem to generate different groups of seo terms like so: (the second result from the top is legitimate, all the rest are not) Here is the source of "hope.php": http://pastebin.com/7Ss4NjfA And here is the decoded version I got by replacing the eval()s with echo(): http://pastebin.com/m31Ys7q5 Any ideas where this came from or what it is doing? I've of course already removed the file from the server, but I've never seen code like this so I'm rather curious as to its origin. Where could I go to find more info about something like this?

  in advance: my English is not perfect ;) processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz × 2 memory: 3,9 GiB graphics: GeForce GTX 460 Ubuntu 12.04 32-Bit fresh installed (previously 11.10 32-Bit) driver: NVIDIAs accelerated Driver (Version current-updates) probelm: In Ubuntu 12.04 I have problems with the performance of the graphics (games for example: Volley Brwawl, Neverball, Beep and Minecraft), and effects of windows (always at minimize, maximize...) There are laggs at animations, and the laggs in games are extremely annoying. Problems occur only in Ubuntu 12.04, everything was good in 11.10. No Problems with YouTube videos, HD videos. Is there a solution? BBecause I have found nothing here in the Forum and on Google. Or is an update coming soonfor driver or whatever? (This Bug is already registered in Launchpad.) Thank you!

• Higher screen resolution in VirtualBox?

  I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 into VirtualBox on Windows 7. Unfortunately the only options showing for screen resolution are 640x480 and 800x600 and the monitor is showing as 'Unknown'. How would I go about upping the resolution to 1280x1024 (I'm on a 1600x1200 monitor)? Update I tried mounting the VirtualBox 'Guest Additions' ISO (from the VBox 'Devices' menu) and doing sudo sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run from the mounted drive, which gave 2 new listed resolutions after a reboot (1024x768 and the 16:9 version of that resolution). These worked when I selected them but disappeared when I switched back to another resolution. I tried rebooting and running VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run again but onlu the 2 low res options listed this time. I think I'm going to reinstall... Seems to be a VBox problem rather than an Ubuntu problem as after reinstalling 10.4 overwriting the original virtual partition, sudo sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run now has no affect at all.

  I've already went through all possible advices and still cannot start my Atheros AR9285 wireless card. I have a laptop Toshiba Portege Z830 where the WiFi already worked under Windows 7. But after migration on Ubuntu 12.10. I'm not able get it work.
