• Making a rectangular selection in a RichTextBox with Alt-Left-Mouse sweep?

  There are quite a few applications that allow you to select a box or rectangle of text by sweeping with mouse while the Alt key is pressed. Visual Studio 2010 does this in the code editor, for instance. Emacs does it. Winword does it. We've all seen it. It seems like there must be a standard pattern to follow to encode this behavior but I cannot seem to find it. I suspect I am not Googling with the correct keywords as all I am getting are false hits on rectangle, Alt-Left, sweep, selection, etc. I'm sure I can code it up but it would mean disabling the normal selection code used in, say, RichTextBox. And that sounds ugly, error prone and probably more work than it is worth. Anybody have a suggestion (be nice! :-) ) of how to do this or an example of how it is done?

• How do I save a copy of the clipboard and then revert back to it?

  I'm reading words in a text box by simulating the key presses required to highligh and copy the text. When I'm done, I want the clipboard to be exactly how I found it. I was hoping I'd be able to do something like this: IDataObject clipboardBackup = Clipboard.GetDataObject(); Clipboard.Clear(); //Save other things into the clipboard here, etc// Clipboard.SetDataObject(clipboardBackup); But that doesn't seem to work. It looks like you can go the route of specifically trying for text, audio, pictures, etc. and then saving them accordingly. (I guess 'data object' is specialized like that in my example too, I was hoping it was generic.) I'd prefer not to use cases for every possible type of clipboard data, both to be more concise and to make sure I never lose the data regardless of format. Any tips for grabbing any and all of the clipboard and then restoring it?

  I'm a newbie with SQL... Now I want to do display some instances of AddrDistances from DevExpress CxGrid with SQL. Select Cast((DistanceAsMeters * 0.001) as Decimal(8,1)) DistanceAsKm, bold_id, created, fromAddress, toAddress From AddrDistance Where DistanceAsMeters = 0 and PseudoDistanceAsCostKm = 0 and not AddrDistance.bold_id in (select bold_id from DistanceQueryTask) Order By Created Desc This SQL is working and the result is: DistanceAsKM Bold_ID Created FromAddress ToAddress 0 134808 16.02.2010 121795 134570 0 121701 10.03.2010 120850 122991 The result I want is this: DistanceAsKM Bold_ID Created FromAddress ToAddress 0 134808 16.02.2010 Kalmar Stockholm 0 121701 10.03.2010 Falkenberg Oslo So the amount of rows is right but I want to replace the numbers in FromAddress and ToAddress with strings from another table. The numbers shows here is just the boldid. Every object in the database have an unique boldid. The addresses above is stored in table Address and it have a City field with the column and a boldid as a key. What should I write in SQL to get this right ? Is there something in the CxGrid that could help here ? Regards

• nxhtml and geben: debug mode stops responding to keystrokes upon step into html/php mixed line

  I'm using the php debugger geben and nxhtml-mode. While debugging, as soon as I step into a mixed line such as <foo><?php bar(); ?></foo> the debugger is no longer accepting any key-strokes. However, the mode line still indicates the debugger's presence (*debugging*'-entry). I guess this due to nxhtml's mode changes, because it's the exact same behavior geben shows after disabling end re-enabling it. Does anybody use nxhtml together with geben and has fixed it? Or is it possible to configure emacs to enable nxhtml conditionaly, such that php-mode is used instead when the buffer was opened by geben?

  I can open a trip only once but can close it multiple times. I can not declare the Trip_no + status as primary key since there can be multiple entries while closing the trip. Is there any way that will assure me that a trip number is opened only once? For e.g. there should not be the second row with "Open" status for trip No. 3 since it is already there in the following table. • How to By Pass Request Validation

  Hi, I have a GridView and I need update some data inserting HTML CODE; I would need this data been stored encoded and decoded on request. I cannot in any way disable globally "Request Validation" and not even at Page Level, so I would need a solution to disable "Request Validation" at Control Level. At the moment I am using a script which should Html.Encode every value being update, butt seems that "Request Validation" start its job before event RowUpdating, so I get the Error "Page A potentially dangerous Request.Form ... ". Any idea how to solve it? • Keyboard event issue

  Hello guys! I have to capture the following keyboard event in a TextBox - SHIFT + 8(on the numpad). This also means the NumLock will be on.   I know this has probably been asked before, but I can't find it with SO's search. Lets say i've TABLE1 and TABLE2, who should I expect the performance of a query such as this: SELECT * FROM TABLE1 WHERE id IN SUBQUERY_ON_TABLE2; as the number of rows in TABLE1 and TABLE2 grow and id is a primary key on TABLE1. Yes, I know using IN is such a n00b mistake, but TABLE2 has a generic relation (django generic relation) to multiple other tables so I can't think of another way to filter the data. At what (aproximate) ammount of rows in TABLE1 and TABLE2 should I expect to notice performance issues because of this? Will performance degrade linearly, exponentially etc. depending on the number of rows?

• How to make scipy.interpolate give a an extrapolated result beyond the input range?

  I'm trying to port a program which uses a hand-rolled interpolator (developed by a mathematitian colleage) over to use the interpolators provided by scipy. I'd like to use or wrap the scipy interpolator so that it has as close as possible behavior to the old interpolator. A key difference between the two functions is that in our original interpolator - if the input value is above or below the input range, our original interpolator will extrapolate the result. If you try this with the scipy interpolator it raises a ValueError. Consider this program as an example: import numpy as np from scipy import interpolate x = np.arange(0,10) y = np.exp(-x/3.0) f = interpolate.interp1d(x, y) print f(9) print f(11) # Causes ValueError, because it's greater than max(x) Is there a sensible way to make it so that instead of crashing, the final line will simply do a linear extrapolate, continuing the gradients defined by the first and last two pouints to infinity. Note, that in the real software I'm not actually using the exp function - that's here for illustration only!

  I scripted the tables in my dev database using SQL 2008 - generate scripts option (Datbase-right click-Tasks-Generate Scripts) and ran it on the staging database, but the script throws the below error for each table Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near '('. • Question about mysql indexes on low to medium cardinality columns

  I have a general question about the way that database indexing works, particularly in mysql. Let's say I have a table with a million rows with a column "ClientID" that is distributed relatively equally among 30 values. Thus, this column is very low cardinality (30) relative to the primary key (1 million). Now, I understand that you shouldn't create indexes on low cardinality fields. However, in this case, queries are only ever done with one of the 30 clientIDs. Thus, wouldn't creating an index on ClientID be helpful, as the search space is automatically reduced to 1/30th what it normally would be? Or is my understanding of how the index works flawed? • keyDown works but i get beeps

  I just got my keydown method to work. But i get system beep everytime i press key. i have no idea whats wrong. • Preferred Method Of Application Purchase

  This is more of a "programmers" question, but felt that it was technical enough to belong on Stack Overflow instead. I'm launching an application soon that will follow the shareware model of purchase. I've thought about implementing this in a few ways: Limited access to the application until they purchase Full access to the application but expires after 30 day, requiring them to purchase to retain utility. Full access to the application indefinitely, but with a 10-15 second pop-up box on start-up asking them to register -- like mIRC does (or used to do). The method of authentication will be web-based. I'll provide them with an authentication key and they'll put it in the application. Whenever the application boots up, it'll check my web service and determine whether the application is genuine or not. This isn't my question. My question is: Is there a preferred method of implementation? I'd like to piss off the users as little as possible, but I'd also like to get paid for my work.

• NSMutableDictionary is adding quotes to keys and values - why?

  I'm trying to add some additional key/value pairs to an NSMutableDictionary, using: Tag *tag1 = [results1 objectAtIndex:0]; [resultsDict setObject:[tag1 retrieveTextUpToDepth:1] forKey:@"image_url"]; Tag *tag2 = [results2 objectAtIndex:0]; [resultsDict setValue:[tag2 retrieveTextUpToDepth:1] forKey:@"majority"]; This adds the k/v pairs with no problem, except when I come to retrieve them, some of the values have been wrapped with double quotes: po extendedDataDictionary: "image_url" = "/images/mpsL/11727.jpeg"; majority = 3460; Both keys and values are NSStrings, with no quotes - so I'm stumped as to where they're appearing from. Is there any way of preventing this? Or am I going to have to live with it and try to strip off the quotes once I've retrieved the value? Thanks...

• Linq with a long where clause

  Is there a better way to do this? I tried to loop over the partsToChange collection and build up the where clause, but it ANDs them together instead of ORing them. • How to prevent Spell checking code in MS Office?

  We use MS Office. Outlook for emails, Word for some documentation and I use OneNote a lot for my own note taking. What bugs me is when I drop some code or use key words or even camel case into these apps the spell checking picks them up and I have red squiggles everywhere. Ignore is pretty much useless, so either I have to turn off Spell Check altogether start adding these to the custom dictionary. What would be good is if I can use the Set Language function to mark a whole block of text to just not be spell checked. Has anyone found a nice solution to this or do you know of a blank dictionary is best to use? I found using "Mohawk" kind of does that... might just use that for now. Maybe create a macro to switch between them.

• resizing arrays when close to memory capacity

  So I am implementing my own hashtable in java, since the built in hashtable has ridiculous memory overhead per entry. I'm making an open-addressed table with a variant of quadratic hashing, which is backed internally by two arrays, one for keys and one for values. I don't have the ability to resize though. The obvious way to do it is to create larger arrays and then hash all of the (key, value) pairs into the new arrays from the old ones. This falls apart though when my old arrays take up over 50% of my current memory, since I can't fit both the old and new arrays in memory at the same time. Is there any way to resize my hashtable in this situation Edit: the info I got for current hashtable memory overheads is from here How much memory does a Hashtable use? Also, for my current application, my values are ints, so rather than store references to Integers, I have an array of ints as my values.

• MYSQL Inner Join two table over two keys

  I am doing a query to return all users shopping carts, stored in the sb_carts table. The product information stored in sb_carts is referenced over two keys product_sku and school_id. It needs to reference both to return a unique product with unique stock levels etc. When I execute the following query it returns one row, I am expecting 3 rows. I have tried breaking the inner join into two separate joins but this still returns only 1 result. joining only on one key has the desired result, but may be retuning the wrong product.   Hi. How to make the left arrow act like . (dot), when a user press the left arrow in a textbox it will type . and also in the same way how to make the right arrow act like - ( dash) And I want to use the Contol key to switch between 2 modes: . and dash, regular arrows behavior, mean when a user press Control the tow arrows will act as . and dash. And when a user press agian the control the 2 arrows will act as usual arrows. Thanks,
