Silverlight and Active Directory

I am planning to familiarize(read teach) myself with Silverlight by building an in-house app for managing our employees. I, obviously, would need this to interact with Active Directory on some level. What are my options? Has anyone tried this before? I am currently going to explore using Services(WCF???) to do the AD interaction portion? Thoughts? There is also this SO Post on using PowerShell to interact with AD. Maybe that is a possibility? Thanks,

Exporting info from PS script to csv

Hi, This is a powershell/AD/Exchange question.... I'm running a script against a number of Users to check some of their attributes however I'm having trouble getting this to output to CSV. The script runs well and does exactly what I need it to do, the output on screen is fine, I'm just having trouble getting it to directly export to csv. The input is a comma seperated txt file of usernames (eg "username1,username2,username3") I've experimented with creating custom ps objects, adding to them and then exporting those but its not working.... Any suggestions gratefully received.. PHP - ldap_search() filter. How to search for user

$_SERVER['REMOTE_USER'] returns the username of the user logged in to an Active Directory. I want to retrive this users info by using ldap_search(). Sending Tasks using an offline Outlook

Hi All, I've a scenario wherein I need to send/assign tasks from my browser UI to the concerned. This should happen with Outlook being offline (or for that matter outlook not even configured on the terminal) so that the user can be accessing a workflow from any terminal (using his/her AD credentials) and if required should have the ability to send a task to the concerned without having to return to his own terminal to be able to do so. I envision that the user's credentials should be used to look up the AD for his/her email ID and send a task using the same from anywhere in the intranet. Using Outlook object library I have been able to assign/send tasks, but with the Outlook being fired up and not otherwise. Redemption does the sync of contacts while Outlook is offline but not tasks. Kindly help if anybody has had a chance to do something similar. Thanks in advance.

SSL-Explorer requires a dedicated Active Directory account to use for authenticating AD users. This account serves as a link to your Active Directory database. If the Service Account is not found on your AD database then the SSL-Explorer service will not start. Well I have Active Directory service account details and user submitted login/password details.In the code below I validated service account by giving MEMBER_GRPUP and adminPassword and I check whether the user exists in Active Directory by submitting samaaccountname but my question here is how do I validate the password submitted for that user? I am not sure how to do this, I appreciate if anybody has any suggestions on this. Block all content on a web page for people using an Adblock-type browser add-on/extension?

I wish to block ALL my content from any users using an ad-blocking browser extension (ie. Adblock Plus for Firefox, Adthwart for Chrome). How can I acheive this? Is there a server-side solution? Active Directory public key use

I have a client who has a requirement to validate users logging into my web application against his active directory using LDAP. In trying to connect using the DirectoryEntry and DirectorySearcher .NET classes, I can connect to his AD Server but not access it. The client's AD server has an SSL Certificate for which he has given me a public key file but I don't know how to use this public key file in my C# code. When I issue the connect command through code, I see, via Wireshark, my application sending the connection request. I then see the server responding with "Server Hello, Certificate, Certificate Request, Server Hello Done". Then my application never responds after that. In using another application, written by somebody else for which I do not have code, I see the same request from the server and then see the application respond with "Certificate, Client Key Exchange" and then the application connects and runs. With that said, my question then becomes, how can I get my C# application to load and send the key file I got from the client?

So what are the guidelines for good webcrawler 'Etiquette'? Things that spring to mind: Observe Robot.txt instructions Limit the number of simultaneous requests to the same domain Don't follow ad links? Stopping the crawler from clicking on ads - This one is particularly on my mind at the moment... how do i stop my bot from 'clicking' on ads? if it is going straight to the url in the ad is it counted as a click?

List of private iPhone APIs?

. . Hi there, everybody. . . I need to do an app to be distributed ad hoc (it doesn't need to go to the store) but I need to get the information about the "data usage" (gprs/3g traffic). It is available on the system, but there is no official API call to get that info. One app made it through Apple testing (it's called "Download Meter"), though, and I emailed the guys to see if they would share the call, but they were not in that mood. . . Is there any list of private APIs or anything like that? Does anyone have any ideas of how could I get that info? Again: the app doesn't need to go to the store, but I need to install it on stock iPhone (ad hoc will do). . Thanks.

Active Directory: User UPN or DN for NTLM name, using pure LDAP?

I have a Java app that can authenticate to LDAP by logging users into the AD LDAP server with the NTLM name (which they are used to - this is a requirement). I now also need to do authorization, and hence need to find a forest-unique identifier for the user (DN or UPN should work), from which I can further query the directory. The method needs to be absolutely portable, even if the AD is structured in an unusual fashion, otherwise I could just do a string replacement and search for a UPN of "${ntlm-user}@${ntlm-domain}.${configured-trailing-domain}" How can I do this, using pure LDAP? Currently, I'm using the java.naming.directory package, which I'd like to keep using, since it doesn't throw up problems when not binding with a DN but logging in with an NTLM name?

IIS7 integrated mode closing token between requests

We are migrating to IIS7 integrated mode and have come across an issue. We authenticate using WindowsAuthentication but then store a reference to the WindowsPrincipal so that on future requests we can authorize as needed against AD. In IIS 7 Integrated mode, the token is being closed (between requests) so that when we try to run IsInRole it generates a disposed exception. Is there a way to cache this token or change our use of WindowsPrincipal so that we don't need to make successive AD requests to get it for each authorization request? SSRS and hiding other selections once a parameter is selected

I am learning SSRS so this is probably an extremely easy solution. I have a bunch of reports that were rebuilt to match some old Access reports. For each report, we have to be able to run Current, Last, Next or Adhoc dates. Is there an easy way if a user selects Adhoc to then show the parameters selections for Start and End Date for the Adhoc selection? Right now, I have people who select Current and then go and put in dates. Replicating Active Directory - testing scenarios

Replicating a production server's Active Directory is possible through a number of approaches as mentioned here and here. I'm looking for a simpler approach if one exists. I have a mixed-mode authentication site that I need to test. Quite simply AD users (internal) will have more privilege's than someone who logs in via forms (external). We have a web service that cache's an AD structure (users & groups). I'm thinking of building a module (http handler I guess?) that will pick up my specially formed URL (http://impersonateduser@localhost/mywebapp) and use the bit before the @ as the username. That will be the username I use for any subsequent operations. How does that sound? Has anyone got other proposals for testing scenarios like this?

Getting user data from Active Directory using PL/SQL

I had a discussion today regarding an Oracle procedure I wrote some time ago. I wanted to get 7500 user email addresses from Active Directory using PL/SQL. AD will return a maximum of 1000 rows and the LDAP provider used by Oracle will not support paging. Therefore, my solution was to filter on the last two characters of the sAMAccountName (*00,*01,*02...etc.). This results in 126 queries (100 for account names ending in digits, 26 for those ending in a letter...this was sufficient for my AD setup). The person I was speaking to (it was a job interview by the way) said he could have done it a better way, but he would not tell me what that method was. Could anybody hazard a guess at what this method was?

Does background iOS require specific provisioning?

I've added the appropriate XML to my PLIST ("audio key") and my app did stream audio in the background. I installed the app on to an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 via Ad Hoc distribution. I played audio in my app and pressed the home key. It was still playing. Then I switched computers and reset my provisioning profile. I recompiled and exported with a generic provisioning profile. I sent the app to someone else to test on their 3GS via Ad Hoc and the app does not work in the background.

Issues in Ajax based applications

I'm very interested in developing Ajax based applications. This is, loading almost all of the content of the application via XMLHttpRequest, instead of only some combos and widgets. But if I try to do this form scratch, soon I find some problems without an easy solution. I wonder if there is some framework (both client and server side) to deal with this issues. As far as I know, there isn't (but I've searched mainly in Java world). So I am seriously thinking of doing my own framework, at least for my projects. Therefore, in this question I ask for several things. First, the possible problems of an ajax based development. Then, I'm looking for some framework or utility in order to deal with them. Finally, if there is no framework available, what features must it have. Here are the issues I thought: 1 - JavaScript must be enabled. Security paranoia isn't the only problem: a lot of mobile devices couldn't use the application, too. 2 - Sometimes you need to update more than one DIV (e.g. main content, menu and breadcrumbs). 3 - Unknown response type: when you make an Ajax call, you set the callback function too, usually specifying if expected response is a javascript object or in which DIV put the result. But this fails when you get another type of response: for example when the session has expired and the user must log in again. 4 - Browser's refresh, back and forward buttons can be a real pain. User will expect different behaviors depending on the situation. 5 - When search engines indexes a site, only follow links. Thus, content load by Ajax won't "exist" for who doesn't know about it yet. 6 - Users can ask for open a link in a different window/tab. 7 - Address bar doesn't show the "real" page you are in. So, you can't copy the location and send it to a friend or bookmark the page. 8 - If you want to monetize the site, you can put some advertisings. As you don't refresh entire page and you want to change the ad after some time, you have to refresh only the DIV where the ad is. But this can violate the Terms and Conditions of your ad service. In fact, it can go against AdSense TOS. 9 - When you refresh an entire page, all JavaScript gets "cleaned". But in Ajax calls, all JavaScript objects will remain. 10 - You can't easily change your CSS properties.

I want to develop shopping app for android and it should works like tinypay.me Users can sign up and they sell items or buy items immediately. I need to database. I want to use SQLite but I don't find any answer to these questions: SQLite database files are stored on the user's phone, isn't it ? If it's true, here is the scenario: User logged in, then he/she wants to sells something on app. He/she creates ad and he/she published it on the app. These variables writing their database. What is better for non-active directory stuff, WMI or ADSI?

I've used both technologies in C# for some time now and thus far have not been able to figure out which is better (in terms of ease of use). It seems to me that because there is support for Windows 95 in WMI, it's an older technology than ADSI (which I assume was invented along with Active Directory). However, despite the hint that ADSI is "for AD", I've used it for several non-AD things, such as managing IIS and local users. So, for those sort of tasks (managing IIS and local users), which is more practical? WMI or ADSI? Consider also that I'm using C# to implement these technologies, not vbscript. However, this may equally apply to vbscript.

I'm not sure if there is an explanation on SO for beginners, but if so, could you provide the links. I am interested in creating a "recent viewed" function that shows what links they clicked on before. I'm not sure if this is the 'correct' way to do it, but this is what I have so far... user clicks on a link(say ad.php?posting_id=12). if the user doesn't click on the link, no cookie or session is stored for the link if the user clicks on the link, it sets a cookie for $_cookie['ad.php?posting_id=22'] Each time the user clicks, more cookies are set In the recent viewed function, it gets all the $_cookie variables and displays them. if the user wants to clear the history, just destroy all the cookies I'm not sure if this is the way to do it, but is the viable? If not, what are the steps to create a "recent viewed" function

Paypal API for preapproved payments , is the merchant charged for pre-approved transactions ?

I'm running an classified ads website and I'm charging a specific fee for each ad placed. As you may know paypal charges a specific percent for each transaction + a specific amount fee (e.g 2,9% + 0.30 cents) . I have customers who place about 30 ads per month therefore I would like to integrate a schema that would cut the specific amount fee . Basically I'm looking to make "pre-approve" call every time after the client place an ad to make sure that he has the money to pay and at the end of the month to cancel all the scheduled pre-approved transactions and make a single payment request with the whole amount. The question that I have is : Will I be charged for the pre-approved transactions that I cancel ?
