• DHCP Requests Failing

  Clients on our network recently started receiving this error when attemping to acquire an IP Address from our DHCP Server: "the name specified in the network control block (ncb) is in use on a remote adapter" The DHCP Server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, most of the client are Win 7. Can't find much on that error, anyone have an idea what could cause it? Thanks, jon

• HP blade server: How many connection can be made between HP new gen 8 blades and an interconnect

  I am building a virtualized network on an HP C3000 with 460c Gen 8 blades and 2 HP L3 switch interconnects. I was advised to by a 1Gb 4-port 366M Mezzanine Adapter. That provides me 6 ethernet connections to each blade. I have been told that you can only make 2 connections to from each blade to each interconnect, but since I have to interconnectes and 6 ports I hope someone can tell me if I can make 3 connections from each server to each interconnect.   I have developed a asp.net application on my VMWare virtual machine that I can access (on my VM) by going to http://localhost:1044 How can I access this from safari on my Mac that is running the VM? I tried running ipconfig on my VM and then using the IP address that was given for "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection", something like this: http://192.168.179.139:1044/ but this throws a not found error. I am currently using NAT. How can I get to localhost on my VM from my mac?

• How can I prevent static when PC is plugged into an amplified speaker system?

  I've plugged a computer into an amp, using a 1/8 inch male extension cord, into a female adapter, that adapts into a male microphone 1/4 end. That being said, the amp sits at about half volume all the time because there are other things that play on it. (This issue is not flexible, nor is changing the amp) The problem is that now, even when I mute out the computer, you hear some static in the background. I was wondering some about some solutions (preferably multiple).

• Need to Connect 2 HDMI between Onboard and Add-In GPUs - What's the consequences?

  If i plug a second hdmi cable into my onboard video output (my dedicated add-in only has one hdmi port) will it use my video card or the onboard for that display? Also, what is the difference in quality between HDMI and DVI? I do have a DVI to HDMI adapter and cable that I could use alternatively if the above is not in my best interest. This is a gaming related question as I will be gaming off the two displays, hopefully in the highest of quality.

• What are the steps to set up a Hyper-V solution with one NIC

  I have successfully installed centos on a virtual machine via Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2. This server has one NIC. I have created a virtual NIC, and virtual subnet, and within the virtual machine (via console) I can ping the gateway. But not google. Is there certain steps I am missing, I feel like I'm one setting away. Im not sure what other information would be useful. • Windows Server 2008 - one MAC Address, assign multiple external IP's to VirtualBoxes running as guests on host

  Couldn't find any help @ google or here. The scenario: Windows Server 2008 Std x64 on i7-975, 12 GB RAM. The server is running in a data centre. One hardware NIC - RealTek PCIe GBE - one MAC Address. The data centre provides us 4 static external IP's. The first is assigned to the host by default of course. I have ordered all 4 IP's, the data centre can assign the available IP's to the physical MAC address of the given NIC only. This means one NIC, one MAC Address, 4 IP's. Everything works fine so far. Now, what I would like to have: Installed VirtualBox with 1-3 guests running, each gets it's own external IP assigned. Each of it should be an standalone Win Server 2008. It looks like the easiest way would be to put the guests into an virtual subnet and routing all data coming to the 2nd till 4th external IP through to this guests using there subnet IP's. I have been through the VirtualBox User Manuel regarding networking. What's not working: I can't use bridged networking without anything else, because the IP's are assigned to the one MAC address only. I can't use NAT networking because it does not allow access from outside or the host to the guest. I do not wanna use port forwarding. Host-only networking itself would not allow internet access, by sharing the default internet connection of the host, internet is granted from the guest to the outside but not from outside or the host to the guest. InternalNetworking is not really an option here. What I have tried is to create an additional MS Loopback adapter for a routed subnet, where the Vbox guests are in, now the idea was to NAT the internet connection to the loopback 'subnet'. But I can't ping the gateway from the guests. By using route command in the command shell or RRAS (static route, NAT) I didn't get there as well. Solutions like the following do work for the one way, but not for the way back: For your situation, it might be best to use the Host-Only adapter for ICS. Go to the preferences of VB itself and select network. There you can change the configuration for the interface. Set the IP address to 192.168.0.1, netmask 255.255.255.0. Disable the DHCP server if it isn't already and that's it. Now the Guest should get an IP from Windows itself and be able to get onto the internet, while you can also access the Host. Slowly I'm pretty stucked with this topic. There is a possibility I've just overlooked something or just didn't getting it by trying, especially using RRAS, but it's kinda hard to find useful howto's or something in the web.   On a Server 2008 SP2 HyperV VM, I am trying to capture traffic from a SPAN. I know the SPAN is working, as I am able to capture the traffic on the Host OS, but when I try and capture traffic on the VM, with the SPAN being sent to a virtual adapter, I cannot seem to get it to work-- After doing some Googling, I have found that it might be because HyperV NICs cannot be put into promiscuous mode. (?) Any other thoughts? -Josh

  My browsing and other 'internet' activity (dropbox,digsby etc) halts when I connect to my office VPN using Cisco Systems VPN client Version 5.0.04.0300 on my Windows 7 Ultimate.The only option left for me at this time is to use my office proxy to enable the connection back. • Network devices disabled

  I've been running the Lucid Lynx alpha since first release and only now, after recently putting my computer into suspend then restarting, has the networking failed completely. Both wireless and ethernet list as disabled with sudo lshw -C network. The wireless adapter is an Atheros AR928X. The ethernet is a Realtek RTL8111/8168B. Any suggestions as to how I might go about fixing this?

• What is the best way to keep a VGA cable plugged into a laptop

  I am looking for the best way to keep a VGA cable plugged into a laptop for an extended period of time. The laptop doesn't have the female end threads like you may see on a video card. Between the VGA port location and my hand size, I knock the cable out often. I am working on getting a docking station, but not sure when it would be ordered (work-related). • No option to connect to wireless network

  I don't have any option to connect to wireless. It just doesn't appear in the taskbar at all - even the no wireless networks were found doesn't appear. In network connections, I only have the option of using a wired connection. According to device manager, I have a working VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter (this device only appeared after I selected showing hidden devices). I have already attempted restarting the computer a few times. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• What's the best Communication Pattern for EJB3-based applications?

  I'm starting a JEE project that needs to be strongly scalable. So far, the concept was: several Message Driven Beans, responsible for different parts of the architecture each MDB has a Session Bean injected, handling the business logic a couple of Entity Beans, providing access to the persistence layer communication between the different parts of the architecture via Request/Reply concept via JMS messages: MDB receives msg containing activity request uses its session bean to execute necessary business logic returns response object in msg to original requester The idea was that by de-coupling parts of the architecture from each other via the message bus, there is no limit to the scalability. Simply start more components - as long as they are connected to the same bus, we can grow and grow. Unfortunately, we're having massive problems with the request-reply concept. Transaction Mgmt seems to be in our way plenty. It seams that session beans are not supposed to consume messages?! Reading http://blogs.sun.com/fkieviet/entry/request_reply_from_an_ejb and http://forums.sun.com/message.jspa?messageID=10338789, I get the feeling that people actually recommend against the request/reply concept for EJBs. If that is the case, how do you communicate between your EJBs? (Remember, scalability is what I'm after) Details of my current setup: MDB 1 'TestController', uses (local) SLSB 1 'TestService' for business logic TestController.onMessage() makes TestService send a message to queue XYZ and requests a reply TestService uses Bean Managed Transactions TestService establishes a connection & session to the JMS broker via a joint connection factory upon initialization (@PostConstruct) TestService commits the transaction after sending, then begins another transaction and waits 10 sec for the response Message gets to MDB 2 'LocationController', which uses (local) SLSB 2 'LocationService' for business logic LocationController.onMessage() makes LocationService send a message back to the requested JMSReplyTo queue Same BMT concept, same @PostConstruct concept all use the same connection factory to access the broker Problem: The first message gets send (by SLSB 1) and received (by MDB 2) ok. • Connecting a 2560x1440 display to a laptop?

  Having read Jeff Atwood's blog post on Korean 27" IPS LCDs, I've been wondering to what extent these are useful in a notebook + large display situation. I own a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E320 with 2nd gen. integrated Intel graphics. According to the spec from Intel, this should support HDMI version 1.4, and, using DisplayPort, resolutions up to 2560x1600. HDMI version 1.4 supports resolutions up to 4096×2160, however, according to c't (German), the HDMI interface used with Intel chips only supports 1920x1200. The same goes for the DVI output - dual-link DVI-D, apparently, is not supported by Intel. It would appear that my laptop cannot digitally drive this kind of resolution. Now what about other laptops? According to the article in c't above, AMD's integrated graphics chips have the same limitation as Intel's. NVIDIA graphics cards, apparently, only offer resolutions up to 1900x1200 over HDMI out of the box, but it's possible, when using Linux at least, to trick the driver into enabling higher resolutions. Is this still true? What's the situation on Windows and OSX? I found no information on whether discrete AMD chips support ultra-high resolutions over HDMI. Owners of laptops with (Mini) DisplayPort / Thunderbolt won't have any issues with displays this large, but if you're planning to go for a display with dual-link DVI-D input only (like the Korean ones), you're going to need an adapter, which will set you back something like €70-€100 (since the protocols are incompatible). The big question mark in this equation is VGA: a lot of laptops have it, and I don't see any reason to think this resolution is not supported by the hardware (an oft-quoted figure appears to be 2048x1536@75Hz, so 2560x1440@60Hz should be possible, right?), but are the drivers likely to cause problems? Perhaps more critically, you'd need a VGA to dual-link DVI-D adapter that converts analog to digital signals. Do these exist? How good are they? How expensive are they? Is there a performance penalty involved? Please correct me if I'm wrong on any points. In summary, what are the requirements on a laptop to drive an external LCD at 2560x1440, in particular one that supports dual-link DVI-D only, and what tools and adapters can be used to lower the bar?

• getting Internet connection sharing working in a slightly more complicated configuration

  I have the following configuration: Computer A - Mac OSX 10.8.4, wireless & wired adapters Computer B - Windows 7 (64 bit), wireless & wired adapters, has internet connection via the wired adapter (ethernet) d-link wired/wireless router. Problem to solve: Connect from computer A to the internet through the wired connection of computer B. I tried the following: I set up a local network between A and B using the d-link router. The configuration is this: D-link router - 192.168.0.1 A - wired connection to the d-link router, static 192.168.0.101 (I could have used the wireless but I preferred the wired connection) B - wireless connection to the d-link router DHCP 192.168.0.102 (but I made sure it always gets the same address) B - wired connection to the internet using some address that begins with 10.x.y.z. In this configuration A can see B. I enabled ICS on the wired adapter of B. I set up the Gateway of A to point to B and DNS servers to point to the DNS servers specified for the 10.x.y.z address. It doesn't work, A goes only as far as B. It can ping the 10.x.y.z address of B though. I then found this article: http://terrybritton.com/windows-internet-connection-sharing-ics-not-working-with-linux-bridging-is-the-solution-916/. Terry is suggesting that a bridge should be defined on B between the two connections. I tried that but basically computer B is screwed as soon as I create the bridge. It can't connect to the internet anymore. It is as if the network bridge seems to think the traffic to the internet should go from the wired connection to the wireless and not the other way around. The other thing that puzzles me is the router itself. In general the router needs an internet address. In a normal configuration it is the router that gets the ip address and the internet traffic goes through the router. In my case I am not interested in that. So, any suggestions to get this working? I wouldn't shy away from using a commercial software but I would think windows 7 should allow me to do it. Thanks

• T42 Thinkpad, USB boot, CF for programs and storage?

  Is this feasible? I have a Thinkpad T40. I'd like to get one of the tiny USB drives (like the Verbatim Store 'n' Stay series) of sufficient size to handle basic Linux OS booting (8GB?), then put 16Gb or greater memory card (SD or CF) in the PCMCIA slot with appropriate adapter for additional application programs and data storage. I know I could get a used or refurb HD, but I've had reliability issues in the past. I don't believe that new IDE drives are available.

• Trust Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth Headset

  Firstly, I'm writing this after 5 hours of nonstop struggle to make it work, so I searched into the deepest websites from Google, and tried many things. I have Trust Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter (link) Samsung HM1500 Bluetooth Headset Windows 7 64-bit Desktop PC Facts Nothing wrong with the headset. (it works, tested on a phone and a laptop. Problem is all about bluetooth dongle and its driver.) Trust BT adapter can send and receive files even without any driver. I can pair successfully without any driver too. In Headset's Properties, Services tab, Handsfree and Headset services are checked. Problem When I pair with my BT headset, I cannot see it as a sound playback device. Also when I double-click the headset device icon in Bluetooth Devices, in laptop: it opens a connection window where I can connect and disconnect to that device - perfect! in desktop: it opens the properties window, even though Handsfree and Headset services are checked (I check them explicitly, in laptop they came as already checked) - Problem! Unsuccessful driver installations The driver on the Trust's website says "Error 1606 Could not access Network Location" on start, so it doesn't get installed. The driver on Broadcom (link) is being closed with Windows's that classic "has stopped working" error on validation step, so it doesn't get installed too. (Those tests made more than once) Successful installation In the Win64 folder of Trust's driver from their website, if I install through "BTW.msi", it doesn't give me Error 1606 and it gets installed. Then the problem: When I try to start bluetooth from start menu (or it gets started at Windows startup), an error popup says: "BtBalloon.dll is missing..." so it doesn't start. I found BBalloon.dll in the driver folder, I renamed it to BtBalloon.dll, moved into Windows/system32 and Windows/SysWOW64 folders, and it seems working. Or maybe it gets closed behind the scenes. The bluetooth icon is there with or without this driver since Windows has it. Bluetooth Peripheral Device First it didn't get installed from Windows Update. After, I showed the driver folder path in Device Manager and pressed "Explore in this location". Surprisingly, it's being found as "Handsfree" driver. Now even I uninstall the drivers, it still can see the Handsfree. But still, no playback device. Any ideas to guide me? I'm out of ideas.

  Hi, I am planning out a Hyper-V R2 Cluster environment. I was wondering if I went to the effort of deploying one of the few methods to network boot from iSCSI inside the guests, whether the legacy network adapter would switch to a synthetic after boot, or whether the connection could be handed to a synthetic network after boot? This is obviously for performance reasons. MS suggests that some emulated devices are capable of switching to synthetic with integration services after boot, but doesn't specifically list all which are capable.

• I used route delete 0.0.0.0 in Windows 7 and now i can't connect to my adsl internet

  I was looking for a way to portfoward 0.0.0.0 default gateways and I found in a Microsoft page that I had to try the command route delete 0.0.0.0, my internet disconnected and I couldn't connect to the internet anymore... Does anyone have a solution? It's an ADSL Modem. I have: Windows 7 x32 4 GB ram A kanji modem that has this problem too... It's like Windows doesn't detect the wireless adapter, so it won't connect to the internet.
