Someone please tell me what is wrong with my configuration. I'm sick of digging through Jetty's crappy documentation.

• doctrine regenerating models from yml only the base models?

  I am wondering if there is a way to handle this more elegantly. After generating the "main" models and base models from yml files the first time I have to add at the very leased an include for the base model to the "main" model like so: include_once 'generated/BaseBlog.php'; At the moment before I regenerate the models I move my changed main models, which is mostly way more then just the include path, in to a tmp folder then I delete all the models. And after regenerating I move my modified models back overwriting the generated main models. isn't there a way to just create the base models and not touch the main models? Or how do you guys handle this?

  So i'm working on a project where there is data visualization. My ultimate goal is that i have a set of data shipped with the download of the iphone app. But i want it connected to a backend, that if the iphone has a connection with the internet. it can sync the changes from the backend. The syncing is no problem or the connection between the backend & the iphone. But what should i use as data storage on my iphone? what is the best way. my data is purely text and doesn't have to be secure. But it's main feature should be updating certain parts of data ( adding and deleting are not so important ) so what is the easiest (read: least time consuming development ) or the best way? sqlite? plist? ..?

• Guidance: How to layout you files for an Ideal Solution

  Creating a solution and having it maintainable over time is an art and not a science. I like being pedantic and having a place for everything, no matter how small. For setting up the Areas to run Multiple projects under one solution see my post on  When should I use Areas in TFS instead of Team Projects and for an explanation of branching see Guidance: A Branching strategy for Scrum Teams. Update 17th May 2010 – We are currently trialling running a single Sprint branch to improve our history. Whenever I setup a new Team Project I implement the basic version control structure. I put “readme.txt” files in the folder structure explaining the different levels, and a solution file called “[Client].[Product].sln” located at “$/[Client]/[Product]/DEV/Main” within version control. Developers should add any projects you need to create to that solution in the format “[Client].[Product].[ProductArea].[Assembly]” and they will automatically be picked up and built automatically when you setup Automated Builds using Team Foundation Build. All test projects need to be done using MSTest to get proper IDE and Team Foundation Build integration out-of-the-box and be named for the assembly that it is testing with a naming convention of “[Client].[Product].[ProductArea].[Assembly].Tests” Here is a description of the folder layout; this content should be replicated in readme files under version control in the relevant locations so that even developers new to the project can see how to do it. Figure: The Team Project level - at this level there should be a folder for each the products that you are building if you are using Areas correctly in TFS 2010. You should try very hard to avoided spaces as these things always end up in a URL eventually e.g. "Code Auditor" should be "CodeAuditor". Figure: Product Level - At this level there should be only 3 folders (DEV, RELESE and SAFE) all of which should be in capitals. These folders represent the three stages of your application production line. Each of them may contain multiple branches but this format leaves all of your branches at the same level. Figure: The DEV folder is where all of the Development branches reside. The DEV folder will contain the "Main" branch and all feature branches is they are being used. The DEV designation specifies that all code in every branch under this folder has not been released or made ready for release. And feature branches MUST merge (Forward Integrate) from Main and stabilise prior to merging (Reverse Integration) back down into Main and being decommissioned. Figure: In the Feature branching scenario only merges are allowed onto Main, no development can be done there. Once we have a mature product it is important that new features being developed in parallel are kept separate. This would most likely be used if we had more than one Scrum team working on a single product. Figure: when we are ready to do a release of our software we will create a release branch that is then stabilised prior to deployment. This protects the serviceability of of our released code allowing developers to fix bugs and re-release an existing version. Figure: All bugs found on a release are fixed on the release.  All bugs found in a release are fixed on the release and a new deployment is created. After the deployment is created the bug fixes are then merged (Reverse Integration) into the Main branch. We do this so that we separate out our development from our production ready code.  Figure: SAFE or RTM is a read only record of what you actually released. Labels are not immutable so are useless in this circumstance.  When we have completed stabilisation of the release branch and we are ready to deploy to production we create a read-only copy of the code for reference. In some cases this could be a regulatory concern, but in most cases it protects the company building the product from legal entanglements based on what you did or did not release. Figure: This allows us to reference any particular version of our application that was ever shipped.   In addition I am an advocate of having a single solution with all the Project folders directly under the “Trunk”/”Main” folder and using the full name for the project folders.. Figure: The ideal solution If you must have multiple solutions, because you need to use more than one version of Visual Studio, name the solutions “[Client].[Product][VSVersion].sln” and have it reside in the same folder as the other solution. This makes it easier for Automated build and improves the discoverability of your code and its dependencies. • Honor Whitespace padding to display columns in fixed width <select>

  I am trying to create the effect of columns in a dropdown by padding text with whitespace as in this example: <select style="font-family: courier;"> <option value="1">[Aux1+1] [*] [Aux1+1] [@Tn=PP] </option> <option value="2">[Main] [*] [Main Apples Oranges] [@Fu=$p] </option> <option value="3">[Main] [*] [Next NP] [@Fu=n] </option> <option value="4">[Main] [Dr] [Main] [@Ty=$p] </option> </select> According to this blog, it's possible. The problem is the whitespace is contracted so that the columsn don't line up. SAme results in FF, IE6 and Chrome. What am I missing?

  Happy Friday, everyone! Following up on yesterday's post about Oracle VM VirtualBox being selected as the best virtualization solution for 2012 by the readers of Linux Journal, our Friday tip is about that very cool piece of software: Question: How do I move a VM from one machine to another with Oracle VM VirtualBox? Answer by Andy Hall, Product Management Director, Oracle Desktop Virtualization: There are a number of ways to do this, with pros and cons for each. The most reliable approach is to Export and Import virtual machines: From the VirtualBox manager, simply use the File…Export appliance menu and follow the wizard's lead. Move the resulting file(s) to the destination machine; and Import the VM into VirtualBox. This method will take longer and use more disk space than other methods because the configuration files and virtual hard drives are converted into an industry standard format (.ova or .ovf). But an advantage of this approach is that the creator of the virtual appliance can add a license which the importer will see and click-to-accept at import time. This is especially useful for ISVs looking to deliver pre-built, configured and tested appliances to their customers and prospects. Thanks Andy! • TechEd 2010 - New Orleans

  We're a little more than half way through TechEd 2010 in New Orleans and I am having a hard time finding interesting breakout sessions to attend.  Laura Chappell has completed all of her sessions, and Andy Malone is almost done.  Laura's sessions on Wireshark have been amazing.  Andy is always entertaining and informative.  I did sit through a session this afternoon on IPv6 that was interesting.  I will spend the final day in the Hands on Labs area working through some PowerShell, and Communication Server 14 labs.  The speakers for two of my breakouts had written interesting books.  I went to the conference bookstore to pick them up and found both to be sold out.  They did offer to ship the books to me with the TechEd 20 percent discount. I'm not real sure who thought it would be a good idea to hold a conference in June in New Orleans.  It has been HUMID.  On top of that TechEd 2011 will be in my hometown, Atlanta.

• Best Practice For Referencing an External Module In a Java Project

  I have a Java project that expects external modules to be registered with it. These modules: Implement a particular interface in the main project Are packaged into a uni-jar (along with any dependencies) Contain some human-readable meta-information (like the module name). My main project needs to be able to load at runtime (e.g. using its own classloader) any of these external modules. My question is: what's the best way of registering these modules with the main project (I'd prefer to keep this vanilla Java, and not use any third-party frameworks/libraries for this isolated issue)? My current solution is to keep a single .properties file in the main project with key=name, value=classhuman-readable-name (or coordinate two .properties files in order to avoid the delimiter parsing). At runtime, the main project loads in the .properties file and uses any entries it finds to drive the classloader. This feels hokey to me. Is there a better way to this?

  Can a flex module have styles different from the main application which loads the modules? Meaning... can I have a main set of styles for the application, and separate styles for each module.. with each of them rendering their own styles without disturbing the other at runtime? My specific case: The main application is developed by me... and the modules are developed by different people who want to contribute to the main application. I want to provide some way for each of the module developers to have their own styles for their modules, without touching the main application or its styles.

• protect flash files

  Hello Ive a website that create avatars for users and provide them with link for avatar to use it in their website or singuters etc , my problems is the website based on flash . the main page has 1 swf file that load other swfs used to create avatars , if someone knows the link for the these swf files he can download them which means he can have all the website lets say: www.test.com as main page which load main swf and other swfs files which located at www.test.com/resources/flash/swffiles/file1.swf anyone can grap these files and have all the website which is a big security breach ive trying so many way protect these files from not download but protecting them means the main swf cant talk to them and cant load the main page correctaly , any suggestion for these .. thanks in advance
