• How do i fix the slow scroll in browsers and high XOrg cpu usage

  I am facing an issue while scrolling in browsers(firefox, chrome, and opera) , scroll is jagged and slow. Also when scrolling the cpu usage spikes. I am currently running ubuntu natty(beta 1), switched from ubuntu 10.10 where the problem was worse. I am using the nvidia beta driver, which ubuntu installed automatically. My graphic card is nvidia Quadro NVS 150M. I tried running ubuntu without the effects on , but when using multiple applications at the same time xorg usage spikes again. Additional info: 2GB of RAM and an intel core 2 duo processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

• Can certain system-hungry modules be disabled in Ubuntu?

  Hi, Let me add some context: I am currently using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit (Desktop) on a relatively powerful stationary PC (Intel Core i7 920, 12GB ram). My purpose is highspeed imaging with a pointgrey Grashopper machine-vision camera (for research, PhD project). This camera is capable of 200 fps at full VGA (640x480) resolution. The camera is connected using Firewire (1394b) and the drivers and software from Pointgrey works great. I have developed a console C++ application that can grap a certain number of frames to preallocated memory and after this also save the grapped frames to harddrive. Currently it works fine but sometimes I am observing a few framedrops (1-3). When this happens I reset the experiment and repeat the recording and usually i am lucky the second time with no framedrops (the camera-driver has a internal framecounter that I am using). Question: I usually go to tty1 and use "sudo service gdm stop" to disable the graphical frontend. It seems to release some memory though that is not my main concern. My concern is CPU resources. Are there other system hungry modules that can be disabled temporarily such that the CPU gets less busy on Ubuntu 9.10? At some point in the future I will update to 10.10. Should I perhaps option for the server edition instead? Thanks.

• Need help with gimp 2.8 (cpu not used to full capacity) [closed]

  I know this isn't the right place to ask this question but maybe some one here can point me out to were I should place this question (or help me fix it :)). Since I updated Gimp to 2.8 (and let me start by saying how happy I am with the new gimp) I have notice that Gimp only uses 35% max of my CPU power. I have tried changing settings, assigning only one CPU to Gimp (both in gimp preference and in windblows task manager). No matter what settings I choose it only uses 35% of the cpu. If I assign just one Core to it then Gimp will use 100% of that core (which is about 35% of a three core processor I have. Any thoughts? I am using Windblows 7 64 bit, gimp 2.8.0, AMD a6-3500 cpu. I also use Ubuntu (am going to see if it works the same there). Any help would be great.

• Ubuntu 12.04 GNOME Terminal (3.4.1.1) Xorg 100% CPU

  after upgrading Ubuntu 11.04 to 12.04 (x64 arch) maximizing or resizing GNOME Terminal (3.4.1.1) windows larger cause the Xorg (1.11.3) or X process to utilize 100% CPU. Resizing smaller, moving windows or minimizing do not seem to have the same impact but by no means are snappy either. I'm running on a Dell E6500 laptop (upgraded from 11.04) running the nvidia proprietary drivers v. 295.49 (Quadro NVS 160M) with compiz 0.9.7.8. Other terminals such as xterm/uxterm are unaffected. Hoping it has to do with some configuration settings but not sure where to look (nvidia/compiz/gnome/X?). Thanks!

• Is there anything software-related I can do, to make ubuntu play high-quality mkv files smoothely?

  I've noticed that beyond let's say..a 20 MB/s bitrate, a movie would lag, played on my laptop.. It results in me missing the highest bitrated scenes of a movie.. And sometimes having to compromise for watching the movie at a lesser quality.. I was wondering if there's anything I can do software-wise to play movies smoothley..? At the moment Ubuntu is installed with all the default settings on an 60GB SSD I use VLC ofcourse.. I also have 2 1TB HDD - maybe I can use them as pagefiles? I don't really know alot about this so maybe this is irrelevant.. I took the laptop battery out since it was dead..but I think this is also irrelevant.. would appriciate a response, even if there's nothing that can be done software-wise :)

• Windows NLB + IIS - Stops serving pages

  We are currently running Windows NLB and IIS7 load balanced across two servers. What happens is randomly and sporadically the servers stop serving web pages. What we have noticed is that if we run the sites on a dedicated IP on either of the servers, these issues do not exist. As soon as we switch back to the load balanced IP, then everything goes awry. When the servers stop serving pages, we can still TS into the server and surf them internally without issues, or switch to the dedicated IP. However the internal network cannot even access the files from the load balanced IP. We are running out of idea's here. Has anyone had a similar problem?

• Is this CPU usage normal for Xorg?

  I checked System Monitor to see if the frequency of my CPU increases without doing anything and saw that xorg is always using 10-40% of the CPU even if it's not doing much of anything on the desktop or simply surfing the Internet. Is this normal? If not, how can I fix it? I have: a Macbook white 4,1 Core2 Duo running at 2.10 GHz GPU Intel GMA X3100 4GB of RAM Ubuntu 11.04 I am running Unity and I do not have many effects enabled. I have only activated Compiz animations, scale, desktop, some shadows...

  I have a problem of load balancing. We developed a web app for nearly 1500 users. As the number of users increased we are unable to serve the requests in a timely manner. It takes around 10 to 20 seconds to load a page. Under heavy load it can take one minute to serve the page. We need to solve this situation so that each request is served in 2 or 3 seconds.   I'm trying to deploy a web application which uses F# 4.0 on Windows Server 2008. It works on my computer where VS2010 is installed but it doesn't work on the server. Everytime you open the page you'll get this error message: Could not load file or assembly 'FSharp.Core, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I've installed .NET 4 using the web platform installer. F# PowerPack is installed too. I found this page: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/507202/error-in-working-with-f It suggests you to reinstall F#, but the link to download F# seems to be broken. And it might not be the same problem I have. I've also tried to install Microsoft F# 2.0.0.0 since it's the only F# redistribution I could find. But it doesn't help at all. Has anyone get something like this to work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• VSTS 2010 SGEN : error : Could not load file or assembly (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)

  Hi ! I am experiencing a strange issue with VS2010. We use TFS to build our API dlls and we used to reference them in our projects usign a mapped network drive that was fully trusted. We have been working like that for at least two years and everything worked perfectly. Today, I converted a webapp to vs2010 and when I compile it in Release, it's giving me: SGEN : error : Could not load file or assembly 'file:///L:\Api\Release API_20100521.1\Release\CS.API.Exceptions.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515) The strange thing is that it's working when it's under the Debug profile... I tried adding the <runtime> <loadFromRemoteSources enabled="true" /> </runtime> into app.config and still no luck (See http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/msbuild/thread/d12f6301-85bf-4b9e-8e34-a06398a60df0 and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd409252(VS.100).aspx) I am pretty sure that this issue is from visual studio or msbuild, as our code won't run from a network share when in prod because all the referenced dll's are copied into the bin folder. • C# Assembly not found at runtime

  A strange error begans to happen with my XNA project on a new pc. I have two projects on the solution and a library that is used by both of them. One of the projects, a XNA Game Project, runs perfectly. The other project is a mix of WindowsForm and XNA. The form launches a XNA class when a button is clicked. When I run the program, it works great till the moment I click the button which launch the XNA class. A FileNotFoundException is fired exactly at the moment that the constructor will be executed. System.IO.FileNotFoundException was unhandled Message="Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Xna.Framework, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6d5c3888ef60e27d' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the path specified." The reference is correct, there is no problem on compilation. We already tried to delete the reference and add it again but it didn't work. Everything worked correctly in others teammate's pc. Anyone has any idea what is the problem?

• .NET assembly cache / ngen / jit image warm-up and cool-down behavior

  Hi, I have an Input Method (IME) program built with C#.NET 2.0 DLL through C++/CLI. Since an IME is always attaching to another application, the C#.NET DLL seems not able to avoid image address rebasing. Although I have applied ngen to create a native image of that C#.NET 2.0 DLL and installed it into Global Assembly Cache, it didn't improved much, approximately 12 sec. down to 9 sec. on a slow PIII level PC. Therefore I uses a small application, which loads all the components referenced by the C#.NET DLL at the boot up time, to "warm up" the native image of that DLL. It works fine to speed up the loading time to 0.5 sec. However, it only worked for a while. About 30 min. later, it seems to "cool down" again. Is there any way to control the behavior of GAC or native image to be always "hot"? Is this exactly a image address rebasing problem? Thank you for your precious time. Sincerely, Mike

  I moved the styles and templates xaml files form my application (.exe) project to a library project (.dll) because I want to use them in multiple applications. • .NET Reference "Copy Local" True / Fasle Being Set Based on Contents of General Assembly

  Hello All. First question for me here. We had a very interesting problem with a Win Forms project. It's been resolved. We know what happened, but we want to understand why it happened. This may help other people out in the future who have a similar problem. The WinForms project failed on 2 of our client's PCs. The error was an obscure kernel.dll error. The project ran fine on 3 other PCs. We found that a .DLL (log4net.dll - a very popular open-source logging library) was missing from our release folder. It was previously in our release folder. Why was it missing in this latest release? It was missing because I must have installed a program on my Dev box that used log4net.dll and it was added to the general assembly. When I checked the SLN's references for log4net.dll, they were changed to "copy local=FALSE". They must have changed automagicially because log4net.dll was present in my GAC. Here's where my question starts: Why did my reference for log4net.dll get changed from COPY LOCAL = TRUE to COPY LOCAL = FALSE? I suspect it's because it was added to my GAC by another program. How can we prevent this from happening again? As it stands now, if I install a piece of software that uses a common library and it adds it to my GAC, then my SLNs that REF that DLL will change from Copy Local TRUE to FALSE. Thank you so much. I hope this helps people out who have a piece of software that runs in some places, but not in others, when it used to run fine in ALL places.

• Entity Framework Duplicate type name within an assembly (6.1.0)

  I am not sure what is going on but I keep getting the following exception when doing a query. "Duplicate type name within an assembly." I have not been able to find a solution on the web. I had resolved the issue by removing entity framework from all the projects in the solutions and re-installing using nugget. Then all of the sudden the exception is back. I have verified my table schema over and over and find nothing wrong with. This is the query causing the exception. var BaseQuery = from Users in db.Users join UserInstalls in db.UserTenantInstalls on Users.ID equals UserInstalls.UserID join Installs in db.TenantInstalls on UserInstalls.TenantInstallID equals Installs.ID where Users.Username == Username && Users.Password == Password && Installs.Name == Install select Users; var Query = BaseQuery.Include("UserTenantInstalls.TenantInstall"); return Query.FirstOrDefault(); As I mentioned previously the same query was working before. • .Net assembly references being lost as soon as project is compiled

  I have a windows service project, one of many C# projects in a solution file. I add a reference to my "Data_objects" class library for my windows service. this is added to the references no problem. all the classes become available and I can begin to code. As soon a I compile the windows service it says "The type or namespace name 'Data_Objects' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" yet in the solution explorer the reference is fine, no yellow exclamation mark. I have to remove and add it again for it to pick it up, but then as soon as I compile it loses it. This reference works fine in my two other web application projects. what the hell is going on !! Truegilly Update there are no naming conflicts the only bit of code I have is a using statement - eg using Data_Objects.DataContext; also this only happens with a windows service project, i just created a new web app project and it works fine.

  I really need some help with this as I have been trying to fix this for months and I can't figure it out. I run an online chess site written in Silverlight 3.0 The architecture is Silverlight Client connecting to a WCF service that reads and writes data to a SQL Server database. It is hosted on Godaddy, Once every so often I get the following error: Could not laod file or assembly ‘System.Web.Silverlight’ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the path specified. If I leave it alone it will fix itself after a few hours, however usually I just make a new publish of my application and it goes away. Also all the pages in the solution get this message not just the Silverlight application. So I have an aspx page with top ranks that does not use Silverlight but is in the same solution it also gets the same error. Its almost like the whole site dies. This does not seem like a huge issue but it makes going on vacation hard since my site can go down at any time I am away. Also this seems to happen the most when I am sleeping so I often don't get to fixing it until I have already lost hours of potential logins. If you have had the same issue please, please help!

  Late last week I upgraded CC.NET locally and on the build server. The build server is still fine, but locally I am now getting the following error: Exception Details: Exortech.NetReflector.NetReflectorTypeLoadException: Unable to load types from assembly System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089: Failed to load 1 of the 3612 types defined in the assembly. I'm afraid this started after a batch of Windows updates this morning. I had another two updates that won't run, 979909 and 982168 (I had an update that wouldn't run last month). In other words, my page is setup in ~/subdir, I don't have access to ~/, and I am not an IIS admin. Can I reference a private assembly? How would I do this? I've tried <%@ Assembly Src="/subdir/bin/Assembly.dll % and <%@ Assembly Src="/subdir/bin/Assembly.dll % , but I get the messages "There is no build provider to match the extension .dll" or "Failed to map to path" respectively. Here is my folder structure: / | -subdir | | - Bin | | | *Assembly.dll | | *Default.aspx I've heard that in web.config might do the trick, but when I've tried it, it doesn't seem to work. Furthermore, I've read that only works in the application .config file. (i.e., the one in ~/). Anyhow, I already tried adding the following to web.config: <runtime> <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1"> <probing privatePath="/subdir/bin" /> <dependentAssembly> <codeBase href="/subdir/bin/Assembly.dll"/> </dependentAssembly> </assemblyBinding> For more background on my problem, I am simply using a shared host, all I have is access to is that subdirectory, and I am trying to use fckeditor.

• Java file manager won't load in Firefox

  I am using Webmin and I can't get the file manager to load in Firefox. It is a simple, Java based file manager. When I try to load it I get the following error: This module requires java to function, but your browser does not support java Internet Explorer works fine and I have yet to try on Chrome. Java is installed and I have the same problem on Windows and Linux. Java seems to work fine with everything else, with the exception of webcams. Any advice on the issue would be appreciated. Edit: I just checked and it doesn't work in Chrome either.

• Load website and fill form from the command line

  Using the Linux command line (Bash shell) I like to load a specific website in my browser (normally Firefox, but other one would be ok as well as long it runs under Linux) and fill a pre-defined form with some data. Actually, this should run from a Makefile. Most of the form data is static and will be stored as variables in the Makefile, just some fields are to be filled manually before manually sending the form. I know how to load the website in question from the command line using: firefox <URL> But there seems no possibility to fill the form automatically with variables given on the command line. Is there a plugin, executable or JavaScript which allows me to do this? Any suggestions and hints are welcome. I don't mind coding some JavaScript.
