• Basic help needed with pointers (double indirection)

  Hi, i asked some time ago on an account i cant remember how to manipulate basic pointers and someone gave me a really good demo for example char *ptr = "hello" (hello = a char array) so now *ptr is pointing at h ptr++ = moves the ptr to point at the next element, to get its value i do *ptr and that gives me e ok so far i hope :D but now i need to manipulate a char **ptr and was wondering how I do this in a way that mimmicks the effects of a 2d array? some basic tips would be much appreciated as I need to do an assignment that has a **ptr to imitate a 2d array and without knowing how it does this first means I cant even solve it on paper (for example, how do you dereference a **ptr, how do you get [x][y] values etc) thanks

• Sql Server Compact Edition 3.5: Does the data persist in the database file?

  Hi guys, I have this question in which I have a SQL Server Compact Edition database for a desktop application. I am completely new to Sql Server Compact Edition. The question is, does the data inserted in the database persist even if the application is shut down or restarted? Coz I cant seem to find my data when using Sql Server Management Studio to manage the database. Am I missing anything/something? EDIT: Is SQL Server Compact Edition used for caching local data only? We cant use it like what we normally do on Sql Server Express for example managing data using Sql Server Management Studio?

  Hello, I'm trying to use YQL's spelling and search suggestions, but as much as I try I cant find a way to change the language/region for the query, how is this done? • How to float span properly

  I am developing this site http://indigonightlife.com/ The second section down is This Weeks Events. To the right of that heading is an image of the 5 little blue lines. The problem Im having is I cant get it to float to the right side of the container. As it is now, its in the middle of the container. Ive tried all kinds of combos of floats, clearfixes, and such but I cant get it to stay to the right. The section below titled Resident and Guest DJs has the same image but its floated fine. Not sure what the difference is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  Is there any way how to propagate properties from child control into parent - so I can access property like - Parent.Property1 instead of Parent.Child.Property1 ? I cant use inheritance - my parent cant be extended child type - its inherited from different class. • how to revert non-corrupted mssql database with stopat

  i have a good, working valid non-corrupted database in mssql that i want to revert to a point in time how is that done? the standard RESTORE command requires a full backup as a starting point, and then log backups thereafter. i cant understand why this must be done from a backup. if my db is good and the logs are OK, why cant i just revert with a STOPAT from the live logs in the db? one dba suggested that whenever i want to restore i should THEN make a log backup and then RESTORE with STOPAT. i believe it would work but sounds a little backwards any better ideas? thank you very much

  Hi all I'm stuck. Tried all the angles but i cant seem to get it working. I have 2 inline calendars. When i select a date from the dtFrm calendar it sets the date on the dtTo calendar as expected. I just cant seem to set the EndDate of the dtTo calendar. Anyone manage to solve this one? Thanks! • Active Scaffold + Ruby 2.3.5 not working

  Hello, I have an application with Rails 2.3.5. And Im trying to use AS latest version, I have used it previously but cant make it work here. I have my ingredient_categories Controller, where i put class Administration::IngredientCategoriesController < ApplicationController layout "default" active_scaffold :ingredient_categories end I have this set up on routes to be :active_scaffold=true I have a model also called ingredient_category, and in the views folder (inside administration/ingredient_categories, and /ingredient_categories) i have nothing as it is usual. And Im getting over and over again: Template is missing Missing template ingredient_categories/list.html in view path themes/aqueouslight:app/views I had an error before asking me for a list.erb, which I created and put <%= render :active_scaffold = 'ingredient_categories', :label = 'Categorias' % And now this error of the list.thml... Cant make it work! dont know whhy really... whould be SO simple and its burning my head now.. Thanks!

• Android USB driver v2 vs v3? V3 doesnt see moto droid in device chooser?!?

  I can see my adp2 in ddms device chooser, but cant see Dave's droid. (used to be able to before updating to usb v3!). Can some smart person diff the inf files from usb v2 and v3 and see if they dropped the droid by mistake when they added the nexus? I can't think of any other reason why I cant see the droid in the device chooser. USB debug turned on, same debuggable app that runs on the 1.6 adp2. I'd like to be able to see the 2.1 device even if it has a red x by it!

  Hi, i need to share data between a local service and his hosting activity, i`am using sendBroadcast in order to send data to the hosting activity from the service, but if i want to send data back to the service from the hosting activity? so i though to create static method on the service, and call from the activity, and through it send the parameter, but then i cant do operations like toast inside that static method(which is inside the service).. coz you cant use "myclass.this" inside a static method, i guess there r more limits.. mybe another solution? mybe there is a proper way for this task? thanks, moshik.

  This is almost good find *.txt -print0 | xargs -0 rm -f And i want to have something like that echo *.txt ./zad3.sh | xargs -l rm -f First version is good because I can delete file with white spaces but I can't use my script to select file to delete. Second version I can select files but I can't delete file with white spaces. I want to find files with end on .txt and delete some of them. zad3.sh is a script wich is returning file name if i agree to delete it rm catch the name and delete it. It works only for file without white space and special characters. Second version is better but i cant put my script inside it. find *.txt -print0| xargs -0 ./zad3.sh |xargs rm -f it works almost but i cant pass arg to rm and part of my code Thx

  I'm trying to write a function that will change the size of a dynamic array to a new size. In my header file, I have: Image **images; //pointer to a dynamic array of image pointers int maximum; //size I want to do this by allocating a new array and copying the values over without changing their indices. If there are non-null pointers outside the range newmax, then we cant do this. So heres what I have: There are no compilation or runtime errors. However, I find that the new array isnt getting sized right. When I run the following test case: I should get an index out of bounds error, but instead the system lets it slide. Can anyone see the mistake? I've looked for hours but cant find anything.

When I mount the shares from a client using NFSv3 (mount.nfs 10.0.0.51:/exports/video /mnt -o vers=3,soft,intr,timeo=10), it works. However, I would like to use NFSv4 because of improved security and performance. When I try to mount an NFSv4 share on malbec the mount command just hangs and finally times out after 2 minutes. How do I make the clients mount the NFSv4 shares as NFSv4? How do I troubleshoot NFS? There is no information in the syslog on neither client nor server. What are any errors in my configuration? • Windows 7: Windows Firewall: Logging/Notifying on Outgoing Request Attempts

  I'm trying to configure Windows Firewall with Advanced Security to log and tell me when programs are trying to make outbound requests. I previously tried installing ZoneAlarm, which worked wonders for me with this in XP, but now, I'm unable to install ZA on Win7. My question is, is it possible to somehow monitor a log or get notifications when a program tries to do that if I set all outbound connections to auto-block, so that I can then create a specific rule for the program and block it.? Thanks! UPDATE: I've enabled all the logging options available through the Properties windows of the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security Console, but I am only seeing logs in the %systemroot%\system32\LogFiles\Firewall\pfirewall.log file, not in the Event Viewer, as the first answer suggested. However, the logs that I can see only tell me the request's or response's destination IP and whether the connection was allowed or blocked, but it doesn't tell me what executable it comes from. I want to find out the file path of the executable that each blocked request comes from. So far, I haven't been able to.

  Hi I'm trying to learn how to work Silverstripe so I extracted the tar file to my free hosting account. I then went on install.php and edited the permissions to meet the requirements set out in install.php but I still get two warnings from the 'webserver configuration' section: I can't tell what webserver you are running. Without Apache I can't tell if mod_rewrite is enabled. I can't tell whether mod_rewrite is running. You may need to configure a rewriting rule yourself. I looked in phpinfo() and mod_rewrite appears to be installed. I contacted the web host and they said it was to do with virtual directory paths, and I should add 'RewriteBase /' to the top of my .htaccess file in the public_html directory. However I did this and still had the same problem. The install.php script says that I can install it even with these warnings but when I press 'install' it just refreshes the install.php page. It doesn't even overwrite the .htaccess file. 000webhost.com says they have successfully installed Silverstripe on their user accounts without much configuration but I can't seem to find out how. EDIT: I managed to get to the next page but now there is another warning which is stopping it installing: Friendly URLs are not working. This is most likely because mod_rewrite isn't configuredcorrectly on your site. • Time Drift on VM servers, need a reliable solution

  We have some windows server 2008 VMware instances on multiple physical servers (hosted) and an application which requires the time to be synced across the server instances. Obviously, VMware has problems with this and we really have never gotten it working any better, we have setup the servers to poll for an NTP update every minute which mitigates the problem (in a fairly crude way). Except that every once in a while, the update will fail (because there's already too much drift) and then windows never does an NTP update afterwards which eventually allows the servers to drift far enough apart that our application breaks, and we notice. We are thinking about changing hosts to Xen servers on approximately the same setup, and I anticipate similar problems. can anyone tell me if Xen has the same time-drift issues VMware does, for guests? can anyone tell me what the best windows server settings are for syncing with an external NTP server to keep things in sync: how frequently do you recommend syncing? (assuming every minute) do you recommend running our own NTP server - even if it has to be on a virtual instance? (assuming not) is there any way to tell windows to sync with the NTP server no matter what the time difference is? any other suggestions for keeping windows servers time in sync?   I have a dedicated Webserver running Debian 6 and some Apache, Tomcat, Asterisk and Mail-stuff. Now we needed to add VPN support for a special program. We installed OpenVPN and registered with a VPN provider. The connection works well and we have a virtual tun0 interface for tunneling. To archive the goal for only tunneling a single program through VPN, we start the program with sudo -u username -g groupname command and added a iptables rule to mark all traffic coming from groupname iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -m owner --gid-owner groupname -j MARK --set-mark 42 Afterwards we tell iptables to to some SNAT and tell ip route to use special routing table for marked traffic packets. Problem: if the VPN failes, there is a chance that the special to-be-tunneled program communicates over the normal eth0 interface. Desired solution: All marked traffic should not be allowed to go directly through eth0, it has to go through tun0 first. I tried the following commands which didn't work: iptables -A OUTPUT -m owner --gid-owner groupname ! -o tun0 -j REJECT iptables -A OUTPUT -m owner --gid-owner groupname -o eth0 -j REJECT It might be the problem, that the above iptable-rules didn't work due to the fact, that the packets are first marked, then put into tun0 and then transmitted by eth0 while they are still marked.. I don't know how to de-mark them after in tun0 or to tell iptables, that all marked packet may pass eth0, if they where in tun0 before or if they going to the gateway of my VPN provider. Does someone has any idea to a solution?
