• Where does ntpdate get its settings from and what is the "no servers can be used" error about?

  When I run ntpdate on its own, I get the following output: 8 Jun 15:47:46 ntpdate[31251]: no servers can be used, exiting If I run it with the -q ntp.ubuntu.com switch, it seems to query just fine. I have been hunting through many files and the most relevant one I have found is /etc/default/ntpdate, however, even with NTPDATE_USE_CONF set to no, I just can't understand/see how this error is occurring Any ideas? Update-- been looking non stop... It appears that ntupdate-debianworks fine and is the actual command that makes use of /etc/default/ntupdate, but, this doesn't answer the main question and I still can't find it...

• In which year was the date the same as the original year?

  It's my first question on this site, but I always found this site really useful. What I mean with my question is: you ask the person to give a date (eg. Fill in a date [dd-mm-yyyy]: 16-10-2013) you than have to ask an interval between 2 years (eg. Give an interval [yyyy-yyyy]:1800-2000) When the program runs, it has to show what day of the week the given date is. In this case it was a Wednesday. Than the program has to look in which year, in between the interval, the date 16 October also fell on a Wednesday. So in the end it has to look something like this: Fill in a date: [dd-mm-yyyy]: 16-10-2013 Give an interval [yyyy-yyyy]: 1900-2000 16 October was a wednesday in the following years: 1905 1911 1916 1922 1933 1939 1944 1950 1961 1967 1972 1978 1989 1995 2000 The full date is Wednesday 16 October, 2013 The small (or biggest) problem is, I am not allowed to use the DATE.function in java. • MVC Dropdown List isn't binding to the model.

  Hi, I am trying set up a simple dropdown list but I dont seem to be able to get it to bind to the Model. I am using Asp.Net MVC and nhibernate. My dropdown list is declared like so: <%= Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.Project, (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["Projects"], " -- Select -- ", new { name = "Project" })%> I set up the select list like so: ViewData["Projects"] = new SelectList(projectRepository.GetAll(), "EntityGUID", "Name", editEntity.Project); This seems to bind the select list to the Dropdown fine, but the SelectedValue is not set. it shows up as the default --- Select --- Also when I save this data, the dropdown does not bind to the model, I have to manually set the object like so to save it: entity.Project = projectRepository.GetById(new Guid(Request["Project"].ToString())); I believe I have take the correct messures to have this item bind directly to my model. • MVC map to nullable bool in model

  With a view model containing the field: public bool? IsDefault { get; set; } I get an error when trying to map in the view: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(model => model.IsDefault) %> Cannot implicitly convert type 'bool?' to 'bool'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) I've tried casting, and using .Value and neither worked. Note the behaviour I would like is that submitting the form should set IsDefault in the model to true or false. A value of null simply means that the model has not been populated.

If see on that page, then u will find that they have just written in one function...means this... $(function() { $("#datepicker").datepicker(); }); </script> But i want to open my date picker on one text box click event. so i have written this $("#datepicker").datepicker(); in one function which i am calling on textbox onclick event. but in this there is one problem coming.. i am only get date picker on second time click on text box. if i click first time after page load then date picker will not come but as soon as i click second time then date picker is coming? WHY? AND CAN I DO IT ON FIRST CLICK? yes i know this already happening perfect if i put first code but i want it on my function.

The problem is that the database server is configured with US date format. But the users need to use UK date format in the textbox. When users enter uk date format error is thrown. The database server configuration cannot be changed. So what can be done so that users can enter date in uk format?

  Hello, I'm having trouble displaying the only date part of a datetime into a textbox using TextBoxFor<,(expression, htmlAttributes). The model is based on Linq2SQL, field is a DateTime on SQL and in the Entity model. Failed : <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.dtArrivalDate, String.Format("{0:dd/MM/yyyy}", Model.dtArrivalDate))%> Ps : this trick seems to be depreciated, any string value in the object htmlAttribute is ignored.   In an application I'm writing I have a fairly complicated Database model. I'd like to use EF4 to map this to a whole lot nicer conceptual model. However all the tutorials I've read are with samples of 2 or 3 tables which all map 1 on 1 to the conceptual model. I'd like to learn how to correctly map the database model to a different conceptual model using VS 2010. However I can't find any good tutorials or (preferabally) instruction video's. Somebody got any tips, links or even books?

  Hello guys! So, here is what I want to do. I have a model Staff, that has a foreign key to the User model. I also have a model Match that has a foreign key to the User model. I want to select how much Matches every Staff has. I don't know how to do that, so far I only got it working for the User model. From Staff, it will not allow to annonate Match. This is what is working right now User.objects.annotate(ammount=Count("match")).filter(Q(ammount__gt=0)).order_by("ammount") And this is what I wanted to do Staff.objects.annotate(ammount=Count("match")).filter(Q(ammount__gt=0)).order_by("ammount") And by the way, is there any way to filter the matches? I want to filter the matches by a certain column. Thanks a lot in advance!

• jQuery datepicker - change "today" date?

  Hello! Is there a way to change the "today" date in jquery.ui datepicker? With today, I mean today (class="ui-datepicker-today") and not the minDate or the current-selected date! I figured out, that datepicker uses the system time for default values. Now I get the current date from my server and set it to my minDate. But I didn't find a way to set the today-date... It still uses my system date (there are some users out there whose systemdate is in the year 2000 or earlier). Can U help me plz?

  Hi, I've a window that will hold several instances of a model object, listed in a table. The model object is updated using a text view. What is the best way to keep the edit flag and undo manager in synch with the content of the different model objects? I'm thinking creating an instance of the undo manager on the model object and manually set the undo manager for the text view every time the user choses a new model object. Does the undo manager also handle the edited flag?

I want to use that date to put into a query. How do i format the date to be able to query the database? • Two Tables Serving as one Model in Rails

  Is is possible in rails to setup on model which is dependant on a join from two tables? This would mean that for the the model record to be found/updated/destroyed there would need to be both records in both database tables linked together in a join. The model would just be all the columns of both tables wrapped together which may then be used for the forms and so on. This way when the model gets created/updated it is just one form variable hash that gets applied to the model? Is this possible in Rails 2 or 3?

  Hi, I wonder whether sqlite3 supports interval function. The following statement is accepted by PostgreSQL, however sqlite3 failed to parse it; select ... from orders where ... and o_orderdate < date '1995-03-01' + interval '3' month Error: near line 4: near "'1995-03-01'": syntax error Then, I modified the statement a little bit such as; and o_orderdate < date('1995-03-01') + interval '3' month This time the error was; Error: near line 4: near "'3'": syntax error Unfortunately, same trick did not work for the interval function i.e. and o_orderdate < date('1995-03-01') + interval('3' month) or and o_orderdate < date('1995-03-01') + interval('3') month or even and o_orderdate < date('1995-03-01') + interval(3 month) still gave me the syntax error. Maybe sqlite3 does not support interval function or am I missing something in its usage? Thanks a lot

  There are 2 school of thoughts : Use surrogate key preferbly in the format of YYYYMMDD as this will always be sequential. Eliminate Date dimension surrogate key and use actual date instead. My Questions to experts on dimension modeling are : 1> Which design would you prefer and why ? 2> How should we handle unknown values in each of the cases, Can we simply place NULL in Fact table for unknown dates as Foreign Key can be NULL (if no why)? 3> If we need to partition fact table on date column ,how would we achieve that in case 1. I am inclined towards using actual date and using NULL to represent UNKNOWN dates in fact table , as date related validation on fact can be done without need to look in to dimension table.

• Can I bind multiple forms to a single model using the default model binder?

  I have a complex page with several forms on it. The page is divided into sections, and each section has a continue button on it. The page is bound to a pageViewModel, each section addresses a different set of properties on the model. The continue button makes an ajax call to the controller, and the model binder binds it appropriately to the appropriate sections of the model. The section is refreshed appropriately. Finally, I would like to have a save button at the bottom of the page that takes all the forms, and binds all of the forms to the model. The model, at this point has all of the properties filled out, and can be processed accordingly. Can I accomplish this by some ASP MVC magic?

I have a simple one-to-many (models.ForeignKey) relationship between two of my model classes: class TeacherAssignment(models.Model): # ... some fields year = models.CharField(max_length=4) class LessonPlan(models.Model): teacher_assignment = models.ForeignKey(TeacherAssignment) # ... other fields I'd like to query my database to get the set of distinct years of TeacherAssignments related to at least one LessonPlan. I'm able to get this set using Django query API if I ignore the relation to LessonPlan: class TeacherAssignment(models.Model): # ... model's fields def get_years(self): year_values = self.objects.all().values_list('year').distinct().order_by('-year') return [yv[0] for yv in year_values if len(yv[0]) == 4] Unfortunately I don't know how to express the condition that the TeacherAssignment must be related to at least one LessonPlan. • jQuery.param() - doesn't serialize javascript Date objects?

  jQuery.param({foo: 1}); // => "foo=1" - SUCCESS! jQuery.param({bar: new Date()}); // => "" - OUCH! There is no problem with encodeURIComponent(new Date()), which is what I would have thought param is calling for each member. Also, explicitly using "traditional" param (e.g. jQuery.param(xxx, true)) DOES serialize the date, but alas, that isn't of much help since my data structure isn't flat. Is this because typeof(Date) == "object" and param tries to descend into it to find scalar values? How might one realistically serialize an object that happens to have Date's in it for $.post() etc.?

Imagine you have an existing database entity displayed in a form and you'd like to edit some details, some properties eg createddate etc are not bound to the form, during model binding, these properties are not assigned to the model as they are not on the http post data or querystrong etc, hence their properties are null. In my controller method for update , Id just like to do public ActionResult Update( Entity ent) { //Save changes to db } but as some properties are null in ent, they override the existing database fields which are not part of the form post data, What is the correct way to handle this? Ive tried hidden fields to hold the data, but model binding does not seem to assign hidden fields to the model. Any suggestions would be appreciated

• Setting date from selectInputDate to object

  I have a date controller which does various things. Once a calendar date is set, I want to pass the value from the date controller to another bean. The problem I have is that the setPropertyActionListener gets called before the user clicks on a date. Is there a way to get the date from the selectInputDate after selection and pass to a bean? • Configuration and Model-View

  I am using the Model-View pattern on a small application I'm writing. Here's the scenario: The model maintains a list of directories from where it can extract the data that it needs. The View has a Configuration or a Setting dialog where the user can modify this list of directories (the dialog has a JList displaying the list in addition to add and remove buttons). I need some advice from the community: The View needs to communicate these changes to the model. I thought first of adding to the model these methods: addDirectory() and removeDirectory(). But I am trying to limit the number of methods (or channels) that the View can use to communicate with and manipulate the model. Is there any good practice for this? Thank you.
