  • Manage build target variables in iphone project

    We're transitioning to an automated build process for our iphone projects. These projects can be checked out by individual devs, in which case all the API URLs need to point to a certain path. There are also a variety of build environments, each with their own API root paths. I could probably add multiple, different build targets, and have each of them include a different URLs definition file, but this seems like a lot of upkeep and a bit overkill. Any best practices out there for swapping a few environmental variables for different build environments without much fuss?

  • What environment variables available while starting the script using init.d boot process

    My problem is like this (OS is Sun Solaris): 1) At the boot time I want to start a process using a specific script. I am doing this by putting this script in /etc/init.d (and following other K and S rules) 2) The program which will be called by the script is located at $HOME/xxx/yyy location. 4) I am using 'su - {myuser} -c "{full path of the program}"' in order to execute the script as {myuser} 3) I dont want to hardcode the value of $HOME in the script but want to use the $HOME env variable only. How can I get this $HOME env variable in the shell script? Also what other variables will be available to me?

  • How do I conditionally assign ruby variables to javascript variables?

    I have a website where I need a javascript version of the "current user" object along with the ruby version. I have been assigning these variables doing something like this... Application Controller: def get_user begin @current_user = User.find(session[:user_id]) if session[:user_id] @current_user_json = @current_user.to_json rescue session.delete(:user_id) @current_user = nil @current_user_json = {} end end Web Page: var current_user = null; current_user_json = '<%= @current_user_json %>'; if(current_user_json != ''){ current_user = current_user_json.user; } Even when there is a current user, I get the current user is undefined. Probably because I am putting the current_user_json assignment around single quotes. However, if I don't put it around single quotes, I'll always get a javascript error when no user is logged in because the syntax is invalid - current_user_json = ; I think I am just looking at this completely wrong and there must be a better way. Given that this is probably a common thing to do, I wanted to get other people's opinion on how to create an object in javascript that is a duplicate of the ruby object.

  • Using function arguments as local variables

    Something like this (yes, this doesn't deal with some edge cases - that's not the point): int CountDigits(int num) { int count = 1; while (num >= 10) { count++; num /= 10; } return count; } What's your opinion about this? That is, using function arguments as local variables. Both are placed on the stack, and pretty much identical performance wise, I'm wondering about the best-practices aspects of this. I feel like an idiot when I add an additional and quite redundant line to that function consisting of int numCopy = num, however it does bug me. What do you think? Should this be avoided?

    I've seen the other examples on this site but I just can't get it to work. I'm trying to generate a random number between 2 user input variables on a form. The numbers will always be positive numbers. min = document.getElementById('min').value; max = document.getElementById('max').value; waitTimer = Math.floor(Math.random() * (max - min + 1)) + min; When min = 5 / max = 10, waitTimer is sometimes returning results like 2, 4 and 28 and so on. What am I doing wrong?

    I am trying to log every SQL statement executed from my scripts. However I contemplate one problem I can not overcome. Is there a way to compute actual SQL statement after bind variables were specified. In SQLite I had to compute the statement to be executed manually, using code below: def __sql_to_str__(self, value,args): for p in args: if type(p) is IntType or p is None: value = value.replace("?", str(p) ,1) else: value = value.replace("?",'\'' + p + '\'',1) return value It seems CX_Oracle has cursor.parse() facilities. But I can't figure out how to trick CX_Oracle to compute my query before its execution.

    My forms are losing session variables on shared hosting very quickly (webhost4life), and I think I want to replace them with cookies. Does the following look reasonable for tracking an ID from form to form: if(Request.Cookies["currentForm"] == null) return; projectID = new Guid(Request.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"]); Response.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"] = Request.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"]; Note that I am setting the Response cookie in all the forms after I read the Request cookie. Is this necessary? Do the Request cookies copy to the Response automatically? I'm setting no properties on the cookies and create them this way: Response.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"] = someGuid.ToString(); The intention is that these are temporary header cookies, not persisted on the client any longer than the browser session. I ask this since I don't often write websites.

    How should class member variables be used in combination with class methods? Let's say I have a class 'C' with a member variable 'someData'. I call C.getData(), which does not return a value but instead puts data in C.someData. The class that instantiated 'C' first calls C.getData and then uses the data by accessing the member variable C.someData. I call C.getData() in the class that instantiated 'C' which is a function that returns data. I myself prefer the second way. But it also depends on the situation and it's a small difference. Is it 'bad' to have class methods that depend on the classes internal state? What are the best conventions?

  • Session variables return completely after unsetting.

    I have a script that should log the user out of the site. It unsets all $_SESSION and $_COOKIE variables related to the login data of the user. But somehow, it seems impossible to log out. I checked the $_SESSION array at the end of the logout script, and at the beginning of each page. At the end of the logout script it says 'array()', but when I click the home button - or any link on the site - the full session data is back again and I don't know where it comes from. This is how I try to unset the session data: unset($_SESSION); unset($_COOKIE["usid"]); unset($_COOKIE["pw"]); unset($_COOKIE["adm"]); -- I don't know how to put it on different lines, but it's not that hard to read. Why do these data keep coming back?!

When I load this settings file, I can use the variables defined in settings.php in the script itself, but not within any functions I define in it.   • Selecting a portion of a JSON array and applying variables in javascript or jquery

    I am retrieving a JSON file that returns its results like what you see below. The JSON has 365 days worth of data. I would like to create "views" of this JSON using javascript, one which pulls the last 10 days, then 1 month, 6 months, etc. After the getJSON function I am doing this to get a string as JSON, then turn it into an object and will then graph it. So I would like each "view" to be an object for the specified timeframe (using the one JSON).   • Having trouble getting GET variables from url.

    Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with this algorithm to extract the get variables from a url and print them each on a new line like: x=y z=hello etc. but instead it prints a seemingly random section of the url with no newlines to the file. But sometimes, for example when an item is tapped, my left side must manually set the view controller on the right side. Where is the best place to store the split view controller instance? Pass it around to each view controller on the left side, like I do with the navigation controller? Store it in my App Delegate and then access it via a property with [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate].splitView?

    I'm creating a static library to share using the following guide: http://www.amateurinmotion.com/articles/2009/02/08/creating-a-static-library-for-iphone.html In one of the functions, I return a "SomeUIView" which is a subclass of UIView and is defined in the public header, however I don't want to expose the internal instance variable of SomeUIView in the public header. I've tried using categories for a private internal header file for SomeUIView, but I keep running into "Duplicate interface declaration for class 'SomeUIView'". Does anyone know how to do this? So for saving any instance in class A, how do i give it the userprofile object. Also, does making a class UserProfile mean that class user is still used and class UserProfile is just some other table?
