  • OOP design for DMS that allows searching and grouping

    I'd like to make a searchable Document Management System and allow a user to group documents together. On one hand, there would be a functionality that registers/fingerprints in a linear fashion and, on the other, one that associates documents into groups. How could I compromise between the two in terms of object design?

  • Quick and easy flood protection?

    I have a site where a user submits a message using AJAX to a file called like.php. In this file the users message is submitted to a database and it then sends a link back to the user. In my Javascript code I disabled the text box the user types into when they submit the AJAX request. The only problem is, a malicious user can just constantly send POST requests to like.php and flood my database. So I would like to implement simple flood protection. I don't really want the hassle of another database table logging users IPs and such... as if they are flooding my site there will be a lot of database read/writes slowing it down. I thought about using sessions, like have a session that contains a timestamp that gets checked every time they send data to like.php, and if the current time is before the timestamp let them add data to the database, otherwise send out an error and block them. If they are allowed to enter something into the database, update their session with a new timestamp. What do you think? Would this be the best way to go about it or are there easier alternatives?   • Dynamicall Rendering in a Scrollable Area

    What is the generic algorithm or process that is commonly used to dynamically render portions of a scrolling area? For example, in Google Maps, when the user scrolls past the bounds of the currently rendered area, a grey checkerboard pattern is displayed within the not-yet-rendered portions while the application loads and renders those areas. I'm looking specifically for the approach, or the mathematics, related to filling a graphics area in chunks based on what has just come into view. If possible, I'm looking for anything relevant to the GDI+ process of doing so.

Better kernel smoothers are available in other packages. What other kernel smoothers are better can these smoothers be found?

  • How to define RequestMapping prioritization

    I have a situation where I need the following RequestMapping: @RequestMapping(value={"/{section}"}) ...method implementation here... @RequestMapping(value={"/support"}) ...method implementation here... There is an obvious conflict. My hope was that Spring would resolve this automatically and map /support to the second method, and everything else to the first, but it instead maps /support to the first method. How can I tell Spring to allow an explicit RequestMapping to override a RequestMapping with a PathVariable in the same place? (Edit - this is simplified, I know that having those two RequestMapping alone wouldn't make much sense)

    I'm trying to render a CGPDFPage (selected from a CGPDFDocument) into a UIImage to display on a view. I have the following code in MonoTouch which gets me part way there. My question is, how do I select the full pdf page and flip it round to display correctly. I have seen a few examples using ScaleCTM and TranslateCTM but couldn't seem to get them working.   • Loading large amounts of data to an Oracle SQL Database

    Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with what I am about to embark on. I have several csv files which are all around a GB or so in size and I need to load them into a an oracle database. While most of my work after loading will be read-only I will need to load updates from time to time. Basically I just need a good tool for loading several rows of data at a time up to my db. Here is what I have found so far: I could use SQL Loader t do a lot of the work I could use Bulk-Insert commands Some sort of batch insert. Using prepared statement somehow might be a good idea. I guess I was wondering what everyone thinks is the fastest way to get this insert done. Any tips?

  • CakePHP HABTM Filtering

    Hi, I've got two tables - users and servers, and for the HABTM relationship, users_servers. Users HABTM servers and vice versa. I'm trying to find a way for Cake to select the servers that a user is assigned to. I'm trying things like $this->User->Server->find('all'); which just returns all the servers, regardless of whether they belong to the user. $this->User->Server->find('all', array('conditions' => array('Server.user_id' => 1))) just gives an unknown column SQL error. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but just need someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

  • My PHP script for sending emails wont send

    Well I'm working on a school project, and I uploaded my script to send emails. I'm pretty much using whats defined here: http://www.webcheatsheet.com/PHP/send_email_text_html_attachment.php . Now, all I really changed(other than the contents), is the receiver, to my email address. However, I'm not getting it in my inbox. Is there something else I need? Do I need to do something with the settings on the server(or have my school enable something)?

    First we find the MSB of the first integer, and then try to find a region of N contiguous zero bits within the second number which is to the left of the MSB from the first integer. I have also implemented similar algorithms but working to the right of the MSB of the first number, so they don't require this seemingly extra condition. How can I get rid of this extra condition, or even, are there far more optimal solutions?

  • [jQuery] Sort contents alphabetically

    So I am appending the following after an AJAX call, and this AJAX call may happen several time, returning several data items. And I am trying to use Tinysort [http://plugins.jquery.com/project/TinySort] to sort the list everytime, so the new items added are integrated nicely and sorted alphabetically. It unfortunately doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?   • Copy of Access mdb database being updated by live database

    I'm trying to compute statistics for data held in an Access .mdb database. In order to avoid interfering with the live database, I'm working from a copy which I made by simply using copy-paste in Windows Explorer. The copy resides in the same directory, but with a different name. I'm using R and RODBC to connect to the copy of the file. The strange thing is that new data that is being updated on the original live database is appearing in my queries. This is despite the file timestamps of the copy not changing at all. It is also causing some slowdown in the live database. My understanding is that the .mdb files are standalone, or is this not the case? Should I have copied the database in a different way?

  • Slideshow positioning problem

    I have a javascript slideshow that works perfectly on Windows 7, Firefox, Chrome, IE 8+ (I don't have the resources to check 6 or 7) and Opera. But I've been told that when on xp with IE 7 the slidshow gets thrown off screen to the right. What could my issue be?   • Making Django ignore string literals

    UPDATE: It turns out this is a deeper question than I thought at first glance - the issue is that python is replacing the string literals before they ever get to django. I will do more investigating and update this if I find a solution. I'm using django to work with LaTeX templates for report generation, and am running into a lot of problems with the way Django replaces parts of strings. Specficially, I've run into two problems where I try to insert a variable containing latex code. The first was that it would replace HTML characters, such as the less than symbol, with their HTML codes, which are of course gibberish to a LaTeX interpreter. I fixed this by setting the context to never autoescape, like so: c = Context(inputs) c.autoescape = False However, I still have my second issue, which is that Django replaces string literals with their corresponding characers, so a double backslash becomes \, and \b becomes a backspace. How can I force Django to leave these characters in place, so inputs['variable'] = '{\bf this is code} \\' won't get mangled when I use {{variable}} to reference it in the django template?

  • Code refactoring c# question around several if statements performing the same check

    I have a method that has a load of if statements that seems a bit silly although I'm not sure how to improve the code. Here's an example. This logic was inside the view which is now in the controller which is far better but is there something I'm missing, maybe a design pattern that stops me having to check against panelCount < NumberOfPanelsToShow and handling the panelCount every condition?
