  • Using Private Browsing keyboard shortcut with Firefox and Vimperator

    I am using Firefox 15.0 on OS X Mountain Lion alongside with vimperator. Note that I am using a Windows keyboard. CtrlP is for moving focus to left tab in vimperator. However, the latest Firefox has also CtrlP to enable private browsing. I looked for private browsing with FF "Customizable Shortcuts" addon but there is only CommandShiftP binding associated to it. How can the CtrlP private browsing binding be turned off?

  • I have a BHO in c++ and i need to block some keyboard controls (Ctrl-o) in a i-frame.

    I need to know of a way to prevent the user to 'open a new url' (with Ctrl-o) as soon as he has the focus on my sidebar (right-sided iframe). In fact, my sidebar offers some controls and the user should not be able to 'navigate' to other website through the sidebar. I'm using a bho in C++ using ATL(active template library), but maybe if anyone knows of a simplier way like in JS(javascript) or PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor) ? Any ideas is appreciated. Thanks.If anyone need precisions, please ask. I'll be checking for responses every single days.

  • iChat Screen Sharing - Keyboard shortcut to switch back to my computer without messing with the mous

    When you are watching a screen sharing session commanded by the other user, in other words, you are watching the other user doing stuff in his computer, how do I switch back to my computer without disrupting the other user by stealing the mouse to click on the "My Computer" window? Put simply: To go back to my computer I have to click in the "My computer" little window at the bottom, but that requires me to use the mouse which is being used by the other user. There must be a way to use a keyboard shortcut to perform that action without bothering the other user who is using the mouse to do something important. Anyone? Thanks, -Sergio

  • Quick access to program shortcut

    I need to edit a text file on my computer that requires admin access (hosts). I used to do this by hitting WIN and typing "Note". The shortcut for Notepad would show up, and I could right-click and choose Run as Administrator. How do I accomplish the same thing in Windows 8? Notepad isn't something I see pinned to my start menu, and I don't really want to clutter up my menu with something I may use infrequently. I want very quick access to my programs by typing a few letters in the name. If I use WIN-R, I have to know exactly the name of the executable. I want to just type Glob and see options for Sonic Global VPN. And I want to be able to execute that found executable as an admin if I need to. Windows Vista & Windows 7 are excellent at this. Surely this functionality has not been deprecated in Windows 8...

    As an avid user of todo apps (currently Asana) is very much miss a way to easily forward an email from Postbox to my GTD app. Currently the workflow is: Click cmd/L to open the forward email window Type [email protected] in the To: address field Click the send button in the forward email window What I would like to have is an automator or applescript that does that for me. Ex: Highligh/select the mail I wish to convert to a task in Asana and the type a shortcut like ctrl/cmd/L to forward the mail to Asana. As most todo apps have custom email addresses you can use to convert an email into a task, the only thing that needs to be changed is the email address in the script. For Asana this would not be necessary because the email address for converting an email into a taks is the same for all Asana users.

  • Windows application shortcut icon cannot be removed

    I recently installed an application on my Windows 7 desktop. After the install this application created a strange icon on my desktop which cannot be removed/deleted or renamed. I find this quite intrusive and I keep wondering if this is a normal/legal case... Is an application allowed to do this? I don't remember having an option to allow this "Chuck Norris" icon on my desktop. Any information on this will be highly appreciated. Edit: What this icon does is when you drag over a file it applies some "deep removal" of it. It's context menu is limited to "Open" (which does nothing) and "Create shortcut"

  • Shortcut to checkout Sharepoint documents?

    I find myself in a lot of situations where I need to download the latest version of a document from sharepoint, or checkout a sharepoint document, make a small change, and then check the document back in. I find the website interface to be quite clunky for stuff like this, largely because I use firefox (bad with sharepoint) and keyboard launchers (instead of mousing around.) Is there anyway to make a shortcut I can just run to checkout a specific sharepoint document without going through the web browser? Am I better off using Colligo Contributor or similar software to accomplish this? Can anyone recommend any software Sharepoint clients?

    I am looking for a utility to move windows around on a multiscreen (usualy dual screen) setup. So with a keybord shortcut (or mousclick) I would like to send a windows to another monitor. I am using this functionality a lot when I give presentations. I'll lookup something on my mainscreen and then send the window to the screen or beamer where others can see it. Its also useful when working or when I want to send a screen from my computer to the TV screen that is hooked up to the computer. I know two solutions for a) Windows b) Mac OS but none yet for Linux. I'll post my windows and Mac OS solutions as answer and would be interested in other opinions.

  • Want shortcut to OpenVPN GUI connect in Windows 7 (without going through the system tray)

    I am running OpenVPN with OpenVPN GUI under Windows 7 x64. Currently, to connect I need to right-click the OpenVPN icon in the system tray and select "connect", which brings up the password prompt. What I want: some sort of a batch file or a shortcut that can be invoked to initiate OpenVPN connection. Motivation: I prefer running my system keyboard driven; I usually hide my taskbar and don't like needlessly fishing in the system tray. Currently, OpenVPN is the only program that forces me to interact with the taskbar. Surely there is an alternative approach, possibly invoking some command line trickery and/or autohotkey, but so far I haven't been able to find it.

  • Shortcut for enabling / disabling Greasemonkey (or specific script)

    talking about firefox here ... I don't use Greasemonkey on any other browser, but if you know, do add info for those as well I use Greasemonkey daily ... having some 20 scripts loaded all the time which save me a ton of grief. But, some of them I sometimes don't need ... few examples: - I use Google Image Status Reporter & Direct Images (links you directly to image file) ... but sometimes I want to go to the page where the image is ... - GReader Minimalist Style ... until I actually need to check the trends and some stuff it hides - there are other examples but these two first sprang to mind, since I just were thinking about that ... To put the long story short ... sometimes I would like a shortcut to disable Greasemonkey, so I don't have to go into the menubar and so on (which I also have half hidden for space) ... anyone knows of any, or how one could create one ?

I have some important shortcuts on my desktop that don't perform well in Firefox, so I want them to open in Internet Explorer. Important ! I know there are other ways of doing this. Such as creating favorites. But I need this feature also for other files, not only internet shortcuts. I like to work with specific programs for specific files. So please try to help me with the problem of opening different files in different programs.

  • cygwin ssh shortcut on windows desktop

    I have multiple servers that I need to remote into. I prefer Cygwin over Putty to do so. Anyhows - the process of opening my cool Mintty window and then typing the following commands takes too long. PS - I am using a "key" authentication to these servers. First, I double Click Cygwin Terminal shortcut from my windows desktop. Then once the terminal session has booted up, from the command prompt I type the following - $ eval `ssh-agent` $ ssh-add $ ssh <username>@<servername> Please keep in mind that my 'servername' is variable. In fact I have about 10 different server names that could potentially be inserted there - Hence my need for 10 different shortcuts. I would prefer to double click on something from my desktop that will fire up my Mintty and automatically execute the above bash shell commands. Does anyone have or can recommend a nice/elegant solution to do this?

  • Keep a Window on top with a handy AutoHotkey script

    Are you tired of shuffling back and forth between windows to get your work done?  Here’s a handy tool that lets you keep any window always on top when you need it. There are many ways to use multiple windows efficiently, but sometimes it seems you need to keep a smaller one in front of a larger window and they never quite fit right.  Whether you’re trying to use Calculator and a web form at the same time, or see what music is playing while you’re catching up on your news, there’s many scenarios where it can be useful to keep one window always on top.  There are many utilities to do this, but they are often needlessly complicated and bloated.  Here we look at a better solution from Amit, our friend at Digital Inspiration. Always on Top Thanks to AutoHotkey, you can easily always keep any window on top of all the others on your screen.  You can download this as a small exe and run it directly, or can create it with a simple script in AutoHotkey.  For simplicity, we simply downloaded the application and ran it directly. To do this, download Always on Top (link below), and unzip the file. Once you’ve launched it, simply select the window you want to keep on top and press Ctrl+Space.  This program will now stay in front, even when it is not the active window.  Here’s a screenshot of a Hotmail signup dialog in Chrome with Notepad kept on top.  Notice Notepad isn’t the active application, but it is still on top. If you wish to un-pin the window from being on top, simply select the window and press Ctrl+space again.  You can keep multiple windows pinned at once, too, though you may clutter your desktop quickly! Always on Top will keep running in your system tray, and you can exit or suspend it by right-clicking on its tray icon and selecting exit or suspend, respectively. Create Your Own Always on Top Utility with AutoHotkey If you’re a fan of AutoHotkey, you can create your own AutoHotkey script to keep windows on top simply and easily with only one line of code: ^SPACE:: Winset, Alwaysontop, , A Simply create a new file, insert the code, and save it as plaintext with the .ahk file extension.  If you have AutoHotkey installed, simply double-click this file for the exact same functionality as the premade version. It is simple Java program which is always on top of any application and work as onscreen keyboard. using a mouse while you press any button (key) of the keyboard, the corresponding character will be typed in the application running below. This is working perfectly for English Alphabets. I am facing problem while I am doing for unicode.

  • Bind a key to a commandline command in Mac OS X?

    I have a Mac Powerbook running Leopard (10.5.8). Does Leopard provide an easy way to bind keys to commands which are typically run on the commandline? For example, I can open up Terminal.app and run the command /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine which will activate the screensaver and lock my screen. What if I want to bind 'Apple-key L' to this command and execute this globally, regardless of which application is in use at the moment? Can I do this, or can I only run ScreenSaverEngine from a Terminal window? I tried to set up global keyboard shortcuts, but it seems that this won't allow me to bind a key to an arbitrary shell command: Note: You can create keyboard shortcuts only for existing menu commands. You cannot define keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an application or switching between applications. I tried to set up a application keyboard shortcut, but commands like ScreenSaverEngine don't seem to be an application. Note that this Screensaver/Lock screen is just one example. I have come across other nifty commands which I might want to bind to a key-combination as well. I can do this in Gnome and Windows (with varying success). How about with Leopard? Should I be looking at doing this with AppleScript? (I haven't used that since the Hypercard days ...)

  • Some process/service/driver repeatedly presses F5

    Hi everyone, I have the strangest problem that started 2 days ago (Windows7, 64bit). SOMETHING causes my F5 key to be constantly pressed. Rebooting helps, but only for a while, it keeps coming back to that. So far I've tried to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard (physically), however, disconnecting the keyboard doesn't actually do anything. Reconnecting it back again, causes the F5-pressing to stop, but not for very long (seconds/minutes). I'd really like to avoid a binary search for the programs (process closing/keyboard switching/etc) before I can, at the very least, identify the source of the keypress. Is there an application that can show me what is causing a key press? E.g is it the keyboard driver, or some process that executes SendKey repeatedly for reasons unknown. Thanks! P.S FYI, having F5 causes the strangest side effects. Task Manager refreshes very very quickly (as F5 is refresh), the desktop is constantly flickering and all the browsers stop working as they keep trying to refresh. I was lucky to find out what the heck is happening only because I started notepad and saw that current date/time started to appear constantly. If not that, I'd still be wondering.

  • Is reliability reputation of mechanical keyboards overblown?

    A while back I worked up to finally buying mechanical keyboard (~$100 range, "black" switches) and was initially quite content with purchase. However just outside first year (read it - as soon as warranty expired) it started to develop repeat issues (press once, get chain of letter repeated) on multiple keys. It doesn't react to generic cleaning (up to compressed air) and searching Internet shows noticeable amount of people with similar-to-identical issues, spanning years. This makes me severely hesitant to buy another mechanical keyboard, considering: every other keyboard I ever owned, including ultra-cheap crap managed to last longer than that typing experience is nice, but not lifechanging-fan-forever nice for me my choice of mechanical keyboards is severely limited not many brands represented in local market and primarily crazy looking gamer models russian (not to mention russian and ukrainian if possible) layout excludes international ordering price tag for a meek year of use I got our of it is plain demoralizing It is obvious mechanical keyboards have their fans, but shopping around for "best fit" or getting into multiple hundreds price tags is probably not something I am highly interested in. Considering my constraints and bad experience with reliability, is it practical for me to sink more money into buying mechanical keyboard(s) again? In other words - manufacturers are beaming about how crazy reliable mechanical keyboards are. Are active long time users of such keyboards confidently of same opinion?

  • Questions for anyone who has used Sun Type 7 keyboards

    So I noticed that Oracle is still selling Sun Type 7 keyboard and mouse packages. I was thinking of buying one for a Linux box at my house so I had easy access to some of the extra keys such as Compose and Alt-GR. I have some questions though before I do for anyone who has used these -- it's been a very long time since I've used an actual Sun keyboard. They show that both a PC and UNIX layout is available. Unfortunately, I cannot find anywhere a clear picture of both layouts to determine the difference. Can anyone post pictures of the 2 different layouts for me to take a look at? I don't remember what some of the "Solaris shortcut" keys do, like Props, Front, Stop, and Again. Are these vestiges from OpenWindows? Do they have any usage on a modern Solaris like OpenSolaris running Gnome? Do they automatically map to anything useful on Linux, or am I going to have to map them myself to something with XModMap? When I last used a Sun keyboard, I remember it having a rather mushy feel to it, so I am wondering if any touch typists could weigh in on whether this keyboard "feels nice" for day to day touch typing.
