  • How to load and pass a Xforms form in Orbeon (How to Send instance to XForms) ?

    - by Clem
    Hi, I am using the Orbeon Forms solution to generate messages from filled-in web forms. I read different code snippetse in Orbeon's wiki on XForms submission from a pipeline, and I tried different solutions but it doesn't work, and there is no example with a POST from a pipeline, caught by a PFC and sent to an XForms view that receives the posted data (all examples are done in the same page). I have the following pipeline which is received on his instance input: pipelineWrite.xpl <p:config ...> <p:param name="instance" type="input"/> <!-- instance containing the data of the form filled by user --> <p:param name="data" type="output"/> <p:processor name="oxf:java"> <!-- transforms the data into a file --> <p:input name="config"> <config sourcepath="." class="ProcessorWriteCUSDECCD001B"/> </p:input> <p:input name="input" href="#instance"/> <p:output name="output" id="file"/> <!-- XML containing the url of the file --> </p:processor> <p:processor name="oxf:xforms-submission"> <!-- post the XML to the success view --> <p:input name="submission"> <xforms:submission method="post" action="/CUSDECCD001B/success" /> </p:input> <p:input name="request" href="#file"/> <p:output name="response" ref="data"/> </p:processor> </p:config> Then there is the PFC which catch the actions : page-flow.xml <config xmlns="http://www.orbeon.com/oxf/controller"> <page path-info="/CUSDECCD001B/" view="View/ViewForm.xhtml"/> <!-- load the form to be filled in by user --> <page path-info="/CUSDECCD001B/write" model="Controller/PipelineWrite.xpl"/> <!-- send the instance of the form filled to the pipeline above --> <page path-info="/CUSDECCD001B/success" view="View/ViewSuccess.xhtml"/> <!-- send the instance containing the url of the file to the success view --> <epilogue url="oxf:/config/epilogue.xpl"/> </config> Then there is the success view, which is very simple : ViewSuccess.xhtml <html ... > <head> <title>Generation OK</title> <xforms:model> <xforms:instance id="FILE" src="input:instance"> <files xmlns=""> <file mediaType="" filename="" size="" /> </files> </xforms:instance> </xforms:model> </head> <body> Click here to download : <xforms:output ref="//file" appearance="xxforms:download"> <xforms:filename ref="@filename"/> <xforms:mediatype ref="@mediatype"/> <xforms:label>Download</xforms:label> </xforms:output> </body> </html> The problem is that the post is done well, the PFC catches the action well, load the correct view, but the view is loaded with no data (the view doesn't find the data on his instance input). I tried with a GET in the view to retrieve the POST data, and that's the same thing. No data is retrieved. So the download button doesn't work. I hope I'm clear enough to find a solution. Thanks in advance.

  • Which option do you like the most?

    - by spderosso
    I need to show a list of movies ordered by the date they were registered in the system and the amount of comments users have made about them. E.g: Title | Register Date | # of comments Gladiator | 02-01-2010 | 30 Matrix | 01-02-2010 | 20 It is a web application that follows MVC. So, I have the object "Movie", there is a MovieManager interface that is used for retrieving/persisting data to the database and a servlet RecentlyAddedMovies.java that forwards to a .jsp to render the list. I will explain my problem by showing an example of how I am doing another similar task: Showing top ranked movies. Regarding the MovieManager: /** * Returns a collection of the x best-ranked movies * @param x the amount of movies to return * @return A collection of movies * @throws SQLException */ public Collection<Movie> getTopX(int x) throws SQLException; The servlet: public class Top5 extends HttpServlet{ @Override protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws ServletException, IOException { MovieManager movManager = JDBCMovieManager.getInstance(); try { req.setAttribute("movies", movManager.getTopX(5)); } catch (SQLException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } req.getRequestDispatcher("listMovies.jsp").forward(req, resp); } } And the listMovies.jsp has is some place something like: <c:forEach var="movie" items="${movies}"> ... <c:out value="${movie.title}"/> ... </c:forEach> The difference between the top5 problem and the problem I am trying to solve is that with the top5 thing all the data I needed to show in the view where part of the "Movie" object, so the MovieManager simply returned a Collection of Movies. Now, the MovieManager must retrieve an ordered list of (Movie, # of comments). The Movie object has a collection of Comment associated but of course, it lacks an instance variable with the length of that collection. The following things came into my mind: a) Create a MovieView object or something like that, that is only used by the "View" and "Controller" layer of the MVC which is not part of the "Model" in the sense that is used only for easy retrieval and display of information. This MovieView object will have a title, registerDate and # of Comments so the thing would look something like this: /** * Returns a collection of the x most recently added movies * @param x the amount of movies to return * @return A collection of movies * @throws SQLException */ public Collection<Movie2> getXRecentlyAddedMovies(int x) throws SQLException; The .jsp: <c:forEach var="movie2" items="${movies2}"> ... <c:out value="${movie2.title}"/> <c:out value="${movie2.registerDate}"/> <c:out value="${movie2.noOfComments}"/> ... </c:forEach> b) Add to the Collection the movie has, empty Comments (there is no actual need to retrieve all the comment data from the database) so that the comment's collection.size() will show the number of comments that movie has. (This sounds horrible to me) c) Add to the "Movie" object an instance field noOfComments with the setter and getter that will help with this type of cases even if, looking only from the object point of view, it is a redundant field since it already has a Collection that is ".size()"able . d) Make the MovieManager retrieve some structure like a Map or a Collection of a two component array or something like that that will contain both a Movie object and the associated number of comments and with JSLT iterate over it and show it accordingly.

  • how to redirect terminal contents to a jtextpane?

    - by sonu thomas
    hi.. I was trying to run a java class file using java code.The aim was to direct the executing sequence of the terminal of fedora 10 into a frame with a textpane. My code is: import java.io.DataInputStream; import java.io.IOException; import javax.swing.JDialog; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.JTextArea; import javax.swing.JTextPane; //import sun.reflect.ReflectionFactory.GetReflectionFactoryAction; public class file { /** * @param args */ /** * @param args * @throws IOException */ public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException{ // TODO Auto-generated method stub JDialog jj = new JDialog(); jj.setTitle("helllo"); String sssub1,sssub2,sssub3; String ss="C:/Users/sonu/Desktop/ourIDE/src/src/nn.java"; JPanel n = new JPanel(); jj.setContentPane(n); JTextPane tpn2=new JTextPane(); jj.getContentPane().add(tpn2); jj.setVisible(true); Runtime runtime; Process process; if(ss.indexOf(" ")==-1) { try { runtime= Runtime.getRuntime(); sssub1="/home/ss/Desktop/src/"; sssub2="nn"; process=runtime.exec("sh jrun.sh "+sssub1+" "+sssub2); DataInputStream data=new DataInputStream(process.getInputStream()); DataInputStream data_data=new DataInputStream(process.getErrorStream()); String s="",t=""; int ch; while((ch=data.read())!=-1){ s=s+(char)ch; } data.close(); while((ch=data_data.read())!=-1){ t=t+(char)ch; } data_data.close(); if(t.equals("")) { s+="\nNormal Termination."; tpn2.setText(s); } else tpn2.setText(t); }catch(Exception e){ System.out.println("Error executing file==>"+e);} } } } The content of **jrun.sh** is cd $1 java $2 When the content of **nn.java** was this: import java.io.*; class nn { public static void main(String[] ar)throws IOException { int i=90; BufferedReader dt = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in)); System.out.println("Enter"); //i=Integer.parseInt(dt.readLine()); line--notable System.out.println("i="+i); } } It worked smoothly But when I remove the comment on line--notable,it gave me Textpane with no content. The problem is : I cant read an input from nn.java Kindly give me a solution... If i am able to: get the terminal pop up with executing the nn.class,and i am able to enter the input,then it will do... Thanks in advance...

  • Android AlertDialog wait for result in calling activity

    - by insanesam
    I am trying to use an AlertDialog in my app to select the quantity of an item. The problem is that the activity that calls the AlertDialog doesn't wait for it to update the item before it adds it to the SQLite Database and change intents. At the moment, the QuantitySelector (AlertDialog) appears, then disappears straight away and changes the MealActivity class (which is just a ListView that reads from the database) through the intent change with an update to the database with quantity 0. I need the Activity to wait for the AlertDialog to close before it updates the database. What would be the correct way of implementing this? Here is some code for you: QuantitySelector (which runs the alertdialog): public class QuantitySelector{ protected static final int RESULT_OK = 0; private Context _context; private DatabaseHandler db; private HashMap<String, Double> measures; private Item item; private View v; private EditText quan; private NumberPicker pick; private int value; private Quantity quantity; /** * Function calls the quantity selector AlertDialog * @param _c: The application context * @param item: The item to be added to consumption * @return The quantity that is consumed */ public void select(Context _c, Item item, Quantity quantity){ this._context = _c; this.item = item; this.quantity = quantity; db = new DatabaseHandler(_context); //Get the measures to display createData(); //Set up the custom view LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(_context); v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.quantity_selector, null); //Set up the input fields quan = (EditText) v.findViewById(R.id.quantityNumber); pick = (NumberPicker) v.findViewById(R.id.numberPicker1); //Set up the custom measures into pick pick.setMaxValue(measures.size()-1); pick.setDisplayedValues(measures.keySet().toArray(new String[0])); //Start the alert dialog runDialog(); } public void createData(){ measures = new HashMap<String, Double>(); //Get the measurements from the database if(item!=null){ measures.putAll(db.getMeasures(item)); } //Add grams as the default measurement if(!measures.keySet().contains("grams")){ //Add grams as a standard measure measures.put("grams", 1.0); } } public void runDialog(){ AlertDialog dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(_context).setTitle("Select Quantity") .setView(v) .setPositiveButton("OK", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { //Change the consumption to the new quantity if(!quan.getText().toString().matches("")){ value = Integer.parseInt(quan.getText().toString()); //Check if conversion from other units is needed String s[] = pick.getDisplayedValues(); String a = s[pick.getValue()]; //Convert the chosen measure back to grams if(!a.equals("grams")){ for(String m : measures.keySet()){ if(m==a){ value = (int) (value * measures.get(m)); } } } } quantity.setQuantity(value); dialog.dismiss(); } }) .setNegativeButton("Cancel", null).create(); dialog.show(); } } The method from favouritesAdapter (which calls the alertdialog): add.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener(){ public void onClick(View arg0) { QuantitySelector q = new QuantitySelector(); Quantity quan = new Quantity(); q.select(_context, db.getItem(p.getID()), quan); db.addConsumption(p.getID(), p.getFavouriteShortName(), quan.getQuantity(), "FAVOURITE"); Intent intent = new Intent(_context,MealActivity.class); _context.startActivity(intent); } }); All help is appreciated :)

    I'm compiling Ruby 1.9.1-p376 under Ubuntu 8.04 server LTS (64-bit), by doing the following: $ ./configure $ make $ sudo make install ./configure works without complaints. make hangs indefinitely until all my RAM and swap is gone. • copying link id to an input field

    - by zurna
    The code works fine when links are images. But I have a problem when there are flash movies. Another page opens with undefined in the address bar when it needs to copy the link id to imagesID input box. <script type="text/javascript"> var $input = $("#imagesID"); // <-- your input field $('a.thumb').click(function() { var value = $input.val(); var id = $(this).attr('id'); if (value.match(id)) { value = value.replace(id + ';', ''); } else { value += id + ';'; } $input.val(value); }); </script> <ul class="thumbs"> <li> <a class="thumb" id="62"> <img src="/FLPM/media/images/2A9L1V2X_sm.jpg" alt="Dock" id="62" class="floatLeft" /> </a> <br /> <a href="?Process=&IMAGEID=62" class="thumb"><span class="floatLeft">DELETE</span></a> </li> <li> <a class="thumb" id="61"> <img src="/FLPM/media/images/0E7Q9Z0C_sm.jpg" alt="Desert Landscape" id="61" class="floatLeft" /> </a> <br /> <a href="?Process=&IMAGEID=61" class="thumb"><span class="floatLeft">DELETE</span></a> </li> <li> <a class="thumb" id="60"> <img src="/FLPM/media/images/8R5D7M8O_sm.jpg" alt="Creek" id="60" class="floatLeft" /> </a> <br /> <a href="?Process=&IMAGEID=60" class="thumb"><span class="floatLeft">DELETE</span></a> </li> <li> <a class="thumb" id="59"> <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://active.macromedia.com/flash4/cabs/swflash.cab#version=4,0,0,0" id="59" width="150" height="100" style="float:left; border:5px solid #CCCCCC; margin:5px 10px 10px 0;"> <param name="scale" value="exactfit"> <param name="AllowScriptAccess" value="always" /> <embed name="name" src="http://www.refinethetaste.com/FLPM/media/flashes/7P4A6K7M.swf" quality="high" scale="exactfit" width="150" height="100" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" AllowScriptAccess="always" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi? Now when I try to view this control in the Form Designer it gives me these errors: The variable 'listBox1' is either undeclared or was never assigned. The variable 'textBox1' is either undeclared or was never assigned. This is obviously wrong as they are defined in MyControlBase with public access. Is there any way to massage Form Designer into allowing me to visually edit my control?

  • How can I turn a SimpleXML object to array, then shuffle?

    - by Joshua Cody
    Crux of my problem: I've got an XML file that returns 20 results. Within these results are all the elements I need to get. Now, I need to return them in a random order, and be able to specifically work with item 1, items 2-5, and items 6-17. Idea 1: Use this script to convert the object to an array, which I can shuffle through. This is close to working, but a few of the elements I need to get are under a different namespace, and I don't seem to be able to get them. Code: /* * Convert a SimpleXML object into an array (last resort). * * @access public * @param object $xml * @param boolean $root - Should we append the root node into the array * @return array */ function xmlToArray($xml, $root = true) { if (!$xml->children()) { return (string)$xml; } $array = array(); foreach ($xml->children() as $element => $node) { $totalElement = count($xml->{$element}); if (!isset($array[$element])) { $array[$element] = ""; } // Has attributes if ($attributes = $node->attributes()) { $data = array( 'attributes' => array(), 'value' => (count($node) > 0) ? xmlToArray($node, false) : (string)$node // 'value' => (string)$node (old code) ); foreach ($attributes as $attr => $value) { $data['attributes'][$attr] = (string)$value; } if ($totalElement > 1) { $array[$element][] = $data; } else { $array[$element] = $data; } // Just a value } else { if ($totalElement > 1) { $array[$element][] = xmlToArray($node, false); } else { $array[$element] = xmlToArray($node, false); } } } if ($root) { return array($xml->getName() => $array); } else { return $array; } } $thumbfeed = simplexml_load_file('http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos?q=skadaddlemedia&max-results=20&orderby=published&prettyprint=true'); $xmlToArray = xmlToArray($thumbfeed); $thumbArray = $xmlToArray["feed"]; for($n = 0; $n < 18; $n++){ $title = $thumbArray["entry"][$n]["title"]["value"]; $desc = $thumbArray["entry"][0]["content"]["value"]; $videoUrl = $differentNamespace; $thumbUrl = $differentNamespace; } Idea 2: Continue using my working code that is getting the information using a foreach, but store each element in an array, then use shuffle on that. I'm not precisely sure hwo to write to an array within a foreach loop and not write over one another, though. Working code: foreach($thumbfeed->entry as $entry){ $thumbmedia = $entry->children('http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/') ->group ; $thumb = $thumbmedia->thumbnail[0]->attributes()->url; $thumburl = $thumbmedia->content[0]->attributes()->url; $thumburl1 = explode("http://www.youtube.com/v/", $thumburl[0]); $thumbid = explode("?f=videos&app=youtube_gdata", $thumburl1[1]); $thumbtitle = $thumbmedia->title; $thumbyt = $thumbmedia->children('http://gdata.youtube.com/schemas/2007') ->duration ; $thumblength = $thumbyt->attributes()->seconds; } Ideas on if either of these are good solutions to my problem, and if so, how I can get over my execution humps? Thanks so much for any help you can give.

  • Dynamically specify the type in C#

    - by Lirik
    I'm creating a custom DataSet and I'm under some constrains: I want the user to specify the type of the data which they want to store. I want to reduce type-casting because I think it will be VERY expensive. I will use the data VERY frequently in my application. I don't know what type of data will be stored in the DataSet, so my initial idea was to make it a List of objects, but I suspect that the frequent use of the data and the need to type-cast will be very expensive. The basic idea is this: class DataSet : IDataSet { private Dictionary<string, List<Object>> _data; /// <summary> /// Constructs the data set given the user-specified labels. /// </summary> /// <param name="labels"> /// The labels of each column in the data set. /// </param> public DataSet(List<string> labels) { _data = new Dictionary<string, List<object>>(); foreach (string label in labels) { _data.Add(label, new List<object>()); } } #region IDataSet Members public List<string> DataLabels { get { return _data.Keys.ToList(); } } public int Count { get { _data[_data.Keys[0]].Count; } } public List<object> GetValues(string label) { return _data[label]; } public object GetValue(string label, int index) { return _data[label][index]; } public void InsertValue(string label, object value) { _data[label].Insert(0, value); } public void AddValue(string label, object value) { _data[label].Add(value); } #endregion } A concrete example where the DataSet will be used is to store data obtained from a CSV file where the first column contains the labels. When the data is being loaded from the CSV file I'd like to specify the type rather than casting to object. The data could contain columns such as dates, numbers, strings, etc. Here is what it could look like: "Date","Song","Rating","AvgRating","User" "02/03/2010","Code Monkey",4.6,4.1,"joe" "05/27/2009","Code Monkey",1.2,4.5,"jill" The data will be used in a Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence algorithm, so it is essential that I make the reading of data very fast. I want to eliminate type-casting as much as possible, since I can't afford to cast from 'object' to whatever data type is needed on every read. I've seen applications that allow the user to pick the specific data type for each item in the csv file, so I'm trying to make a similar solution where a different type can be specified for each column. I want to create a generic solution so I don't have to return a List<object> but a List<DateTime> (if it's a DateTime column) or List<double> (if it's a column of doubles). Is there any way that this can be achieved? Perhaps my approach is wrong, is there a better approach to this problem?

  • Java Applet Deployment, ClassNotFoundException (primary class)

    - by Matt
    This is driving me up the wall. I have checked and rechecked spelling and paths. I have tried just about every combination of paths, including relative, absolute, and full http paths. I continue to get the following error when trying to load a Java applet: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: AppletClient.class at sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2ClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2ClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$AppletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: AppletClient.class The HTML used to load the applet: <applet width="100" height="100" archive="applet/myapplet.jar, applet/applet_dependency.jar" code="AppletClient.class"> <param value="blahblah" name="username"> <param value="false" name="codebase_lookup"> </applet> The applet is in a relative directory, "applet", from the path of the current page. I have unzipped the jar file and can see AppletClient.class. Also, in the source of the project, it is spelled that way (casing and all). I have tried with/without the parameters. I have changed the names of the archive jars in the applet include tag just to see if I get a different error for bad file names (same error). I have manually done GETs on the jars to make sure the server is responding to the requests (it is). I have tried with and without the codebase tag, with all different varieties of paths (start getting bad "magic number" errors on those). I know that this error sometimes pops up when a dependency fails to load, so it can be misleading, but all dependencies are present, accounted for, and are fetchable via manual GETs. Between each and every attempt I always clear my cache in FireFox. These problems are reproduced in IE8 and Chrome as well. Per my Java Console from the browser, I am running Java Plug-in 1.6.0_20. This is from the same machine that I develop the applet on, which runs fine via Eclipse. Finally, I kicked on Fiddler2, and I don't see a single request for the jar files anywhere The host site is running from my Visual Studio debugger, so it's running on localhost. But I see the requests for all the other resources on Fiddler. Just... no Jars. ANYWHERE. I clear the log, cleared my browser cache, and did a ctrl-R refresh. And still, not a single Jar request on the Fiddler log. I even did a delayed write (with JS) of the applet tag after the page loaded, once all the Fiddler activity slowed down. The element gets written to the document (and I can see the 100x100 Java error window), but not a single request shows up on Fiddler. Any suggestions, before I go crawl into the corner and cry myself to sleep? EDIT: From the Java console, if I hit "l" (el) to "dump classloader list", I see something that looks like this: Live entry: key=http://localhost:55446/BaseWebSite/,http://localhost:55446/BaseWebSite/applet/myappliet.jar, http://localhost:55446/BaseWebSite/applet/applet_dependency.jar, refCount=1, threadGroup=sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2ThreadGroup[name=http://localhost:55446/BaseWebSite/-threadGroup,maxpri=4]

  • WebClient.DownloadDataAsync is freezing my UI

    - by Matías
    Hi, I have in my Form constructor, after the InitializeComponent the following code: using (WebClient client = new WebClient()) { client.DownloadDataCompleted += new DownloadDataCompletedEventHandler(client_DownloadDataCompleted); client.DownloadDataAsync("http://example.com/version.txt"); } When I start my form, the UI doesn't appears till client_DownloadDataCompleted is raised. The client_DownloadDataCompleted method is empty, so there's no problem there. What I'm doing wrong? How is supposed to do this without freezing the UI? Thanks for your time. Best regards. • How to get data from struts2 action with jQuery?

    - by Rafa Romero
    I have an Struts2 Web with GoogleMaps. I want to load a list of markers which are saved in a SQL DDBB. To do this, I tried with jQuery and Ajax. Here you are the code: loadMarkers.java public class loadMarkers extends ActionSupport implements ServletRequestAware,ServletResponseAware{ //Variables de sesion/cookie FunctionClass ses; protected HttpServletResponse servletResponse; protected HttpServletRequest servletRequest; private String userID=""; //Variables del marker private List<marker> markersList = new ArrayList<marker>(); public String execute() throws Exception{ FunctionClass friends = new FunctionClass(); //Leemos de la cookie for(Cookie c : servletRequest.getCookies()) { if (c.getName().equals("userID")) userID = (c.getValue()); } System.out.println("en el loadMarkers"); connectionBBDD con = new connectionBBDD(); markersList = con.loadMarkers(userID); return SUCCESS; } I want to use the markerList array in Javascript, to create the markers. This is the struts.xml file: <package name="jsonActions" namespace="/test" extends="json-default"> <action name="LoadMarkers" class="web.localizadroid.maps.loadMarkers"> <interceptor-ref name="basicStack"/> <result type="json"> <param name="root">markersList</param> </result> </action> </package> And here you are the Javascript (jQuery) code: function loadMarkersJ(){ alert("dentro"); $.ajax({ type : "post", url : "LoadMarkers", dataType: "json", success : function(data) { alert(data); var image = new google.maps.MarkerImage ('http://i53.tinypic.com/ettquh.png'); var jSon_Object = eval("(" + data + ")"); //For para analizar los datos (Json) obtenidos de la BBDD for (x = 0; x < jSon_Object.length; x++) { var markersArray = []; var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(jSon_Object[x].lat, jSon_Object[x].lon); markerLoaded = new google.maps.Marker( { position : myLatlng, map : map, icon: image, title: "NOMBRE: " + jSon_Object[x].tarjetName + "\n" + "ANOTACIONES: " + jSon_Object[x].anotaciones + "\n" + "TIME: " + jSon_Object[x].time }); markersArray.push(markerLoaded); if (markersArray) { for (i in markersArray) { alert("entro en forColocaMarkers"); if (markersArray[i].getAnimation() != null) { markersArray[i].setAnimation(null); } else { markersArray[i].setAnimation(google.maps.Animation.BOUNCE); } markersArray[i].setMap(map); } } } } }); } From success : function(data) { to the end, is JavaScript code to create de markers, and this it's OK. The problem is whith ajax, because I don't get to obtain markerList Array by jSon data return...I think that the problem is in the url attribute from $.ajax...I tried loadMarkers.action and loadMarkers, but nothing happens. When I execute the web, only prints the alert alert("dentro"), the alert alert(data) never has been printed. I have forgotten to add the code where I call the Javascript function (loadMarkersJ). Here you are: <p><s:a action="LoadMarkers.action" namespace="/test" onclick="loadMarkersJ(this)">Cargar Marcadores S</s:a></p> Somebody can help me please?

When users do this on our website, and then try to click on a link or close the browser, they get the following JavaScript exception: "Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'type' is null or not an object" in the below library code at the line "var etype = this.type = e.type.toLowerCase();" Sys.UI.DomEvent = function Sys$UI$DomEvent(eventObject) { /// <summary locid="M:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.#ctor" /> /// <param name="eventObject"></param> /// <field name="altKey" type="Boolean" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.altKey"></field> /// <field name="button" type="Sys.UI.MouseButton" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.button"></field> /// <field name="charCode" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.charCode"></field> /// <field name="clientX" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.clientX"></field> /// <field name="clientY" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.clientY"></field> /// <field name="ctrlKey" type="Boolean" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.ctrlKey"></field> /// <field name="keyCode" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.keyCode"></field> /// <field name="offsetX" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.offsetX"></field> /// <field name="offsetY" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.offsetY"></field> /// <field name="screenX" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.screenX"></field> /// <field name="screenY" type="Number" integer="true" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.screenY"></field> /// <field name="shiftKey" type="Boolean" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.shiftKey"></field> /// <field name="target" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.target"></field> /// <field name="type" type="String" locid="F:J#Sys.UI.DomEvent.type"></field> var e = Function._validateParams(arguments, [ {name: "eventObject"} ]); if (e) throw e; var e = eventObject; var etype = this.type = e.type.toLowerCase(); this.rawEvent = e; this.altKey = e.altKey; if (typeof(e.button) !== 'undefined') { this.button = (typeof(e.which) !== 'undefined') ? e.button : (e.button === 4) ?   • Element.appendChild() hosed in IE .. workaround? (related to innerText vs textContent)

    - by Rowe Morehouse
    I've heard that using el.innerText||el.textContent can yield unreliable cross-browswer results, so I'm walking the DOM tree to collect text nodes recursively, and write them into tags in the HTML body. What this script does is read hash substring valus from the window.location and write them into the HTML. This script is working for me in Chrome & Firefox, but choking in IE. I call the page with an URL syntax like this: http://example.com/pagename.html#dyntext=FOO&dynterm=BAR&dynimage=FRED UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Solution: I moved the scripts to before </body> (where they should have been) then removed console.log(sPageURL); and now it's working in Chrome, Firefox, IE8 and IE9. This my workaround for the innerText vs textContent crossbrowser issue when you are just placing text rather than getting text. In this case, getting hash substring values from the window.location and writing them into the page. <html> <body> <span id="dyntext-span" style="font-weight: bold;"></span><br /> <span id="dynterm-span" style="font-style: italic;"></span><br /> <span id="dynimage-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"></span><br /> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var tags = ["dyntext", "dynterm", "dynimage"]; for (var i = 0; i < tags.length; ++i) { var param = GetURLParameter(tags[i]); if (param) { var dyntext = GetURLParameter('dyntext'); var dynterm = GetURLParameter('dynterm'); var dynimage = GetURLParameter('dynimage'); } } var elem = document.getElementById("dyntext-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dyntext); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynterm-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynterm); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynimage-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynimage); elem.appendChild(text); }); function GetURLParameter(sParam) { var sPageURL = window.location.hash.substring(1); var sURLVariables = sPageURL.split('&'); for (var i = 0; i < sURLVariables.length; i++) { var sParameterName = sURLVariables[i].split('='); if (sParameterName[0] == sParam) { return sParameterName[1]; } } } </script> </body> </html> FINAL UPDATE If your hash substring values require spaces (like a linguistic phrase with three words, for example) then separate the words with the + character in your URI, and replace the unicode \u002B character with a space when you create each text node, like this: var elem = document.getElementById("dyntext-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dyntext.replace(/\u002B/g, " ")); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynterm-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynterm.replace(/\u002B/g, " ")); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynimage-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynimage.replace(/\u002B/g, " ")); elem.appendChild(text); Now form your URI like this: http://example.com/pagename.html#dyntext=FOO+MAN+CHU&dynterm=BAR+HOPPING&dynimage=FRED+IS+DEAD

  • Visual Studio reports that not all code path return a value, even though they do

    - by chris12892
    I have an API in NETMF C# that I am writing that includes a function to send an HTTP request. For those who are familiar with NETMF, this is a heavily modified version of the "webClient" example, which a simple application that demonstrates how to submit an HTTP request, and recive a response. In the sample, it simply prints the response and returns void,. In my version, however, I need it to return the HTTP response. For some reason, Visual Studio reports that not all code paths return a value, even though, as far as I can tell, they do. Here is my code... /// <summary> /// This is a modified webClient /// </summary> /// <param name="url"></param> private string httpRequest(string url) { // Create an HTTP Web request. HttpWebRequest request = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; // Set request.KeepAlive to use a persistent connection. request.KeepAlive = true; // Get a response from the server. WebResponse resp = request.GetResponse(); // Get the network response stream to read the page data. if (resp != null) { Stream respStream = resp.GetResponseStream(); string page = ""; byte[] byteData = new byte[4096]; char[] charData = new char[4096]; int bytesRead = 0; Decoder UTF8decoder = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetDecoder(); int totalBytes = 0; // allow 5 seconds for reading the stream respStream.ReadTimeout = 5000; // If we know the content length, read exactly that amount of // data; otherwise, read until there is nothing left to read. if (resp.ContentLength != -1) { for (int dataRem = (int)resp.ContentLength; dataRem > 0; ) { Thread.Sleep(500); bytesRead = respStream.Read(byteData, 0, byteData.Length); if (bytesRead == 0) throw new Exception("Data laes than expected"); dataRem -= bytesRead; // Convert from bytes to chars, and add to the page // string. int byteUsed, charUsed; bool completed = false; totalBytes += bytesRead; UTF8decoder.Convert(byteData, 0, bytesRead, charData, 0, bytesRead, true, out byteUsed, out charUsed, out completed); page = page + new String(charData, 0, charUsed); } page = new String(System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetChars(byteData)); } else throw new Exception("No content-Length reported"); // Close the response stream. For Keep-Alive streams, the // stream will remain open and will be pushed into the unused // stream list. resp.Close(); return page; } } Any ideas? Thanks...

  • Disabling checkboxes based on selection of another checkbox in jquery

    - by Prady
    Hi, I want to disable a set of checkbox based on selection of one textbox and enable the disabled ones if the checkbox is unchecked. In the code below. If someone checks the checkbox for project cost under change this parameter then checkbox for project cost under Generate simulated value for this param should be disabled and all the checkboxes under change this parameter should be disabled except for checked one. Similarly this should be done each parameter like Project cost,avg hours,Project completion date, hourly rate etc. One way i could think of was of on the click function disable each checkbox by the id. Is there a better way of doing it? <table> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td>Change this parameter</td> <td>Generate simulated value for this param</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Project cost</td> <td><input type ="text" id ="pc"/></td> <td><input class="change" type="checkbox" name="chkBox" id="chkBox"></input></td> <td><input class="sim" type="checkbox" name="chkBox1" id="chkBox1"></input></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Avg hours</td> <td><input type ="text" id ="avghrs"/></td> <td><input class="change" type="checkbox" name="chkBoxa" id="chkBoxa"></input></td> <td><input class="sim" type="checkbox" name="chkBox1a" id="chkBox1a"></input></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Project completion date</td> <td><input type ="text" id ="cd"/></td> <td><input class="change" type="checkbox" name="chkBoxb" id="chkBoxb"></input></td> <td><input class="sim" type="checkbox" name="chkBox1b" id="chkBox1b"></input></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Hourly rate</td> <td><input type ="text" id ="hr"/></td> <td><input class="change" type="checkbox" name="chkBoxc" id="chkBoxc"></input></td> <td><input class="sim" type="checkbox" name="chkBox1c" id="chkBox1c"></input></td> </tr> </table> Thanks Prady

By reverse engineering of default InvokeCommandAction I find that blend team just ignores event args.To resolve this issue I have created my own action for triggering delegate commands.public sealed class InvokeDelegateCommandAction : TriggerAction<DependencyObject>{    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public static readonly DependencyProperty CommandParameterProperty =        DependencyProperty.Register("CommandParameter", typeof(object), typeof(InvokeDelegateCommandAction), null);    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public static readonly DependencyProperty CommandProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(        "Command", typeof(ICommand), typeof(InvokeDelegateCommandAction), null);    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public static readonly DependencyProperty InvokeParameterProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(        "InvokeParameter", typeof(object), typeof(InvokeDelegateCommandAction), null);    private string commandName;    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public object InvokeParameter    {        get        {            return this.GetValue(InvokeParameterProperty);        }        set        {            this.SetValue(InvokeParameterProperty, value);        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public ICommand Command    {        get        {            return (ICommand)this.GetValue(CommandProperty);        }        set        {            this.SetValue(CommandProperty, value);        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public string CommandName    {        get        {            return this.commandName;        }        set        {            if (this.CommandName != value)            {                this.commandName = value;            }        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public object CommandParameter    {        get        {            return this.GetValue(CommandParameterProperty);        }        set        {            this.SetValue(CommandParameterProperty, value);        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    /// <param name="parameter"></param>    protected override void Invoke(object parameter)    {        this.InvokeParameter = parameter;                if (this.AssociatedObject != null)        {            ICommand command = this.ResolveCommand();            if ((command != null) && command.CanExecute(this.CommandParameter))            {                command.Execute(this.CommandParameter);            }        }    }    private ICommand ResolveCommand()    {        ICommand command = null;        if (this.Command != null)        {            return this.Command;        }        var frameworkElement = this.AssociatedObject as FrameworkElement;        if (frameworkElement != null)        {            object dataContext = frameworkElement.DataContext;            if (dataContext != null)            {                PropertyInfo commandPropertyInfo = dataContext                    .GetType()                    .GetProperties(BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance)                    .FirstOrDefault(                        p =>                        typeof(ICommand).IsAssignableFrom(p.PropertyType) &&                        string.Equals(p.Name, this.CommandName, StringComparison.Ordinal)                    );                if (commandPropertyInfo != null)                {                    command = (ICommand)commandPropertyInfo.GetValue(dataContext, null);                }            }        }        return command;    }}Example:<ComboBox>    <ComboBoxItem Content="Foo option 1" />    <ComboBoxItem Content="Foo option 2" />    <ComboBoxItem Content="Foo option 3" />    <Interactivity:Interaction.Triggers>        <Interactivity:EventTrigger EventName="SelectionChanged" >            <Presentation:InvokeDelegateCommandAction                 Command="{Binding SubmitFormCommand}"                CommandParameter="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=InvokeParameter}" />        </Interactivity:EventTrigger>    </Interactivity:Interaction.Triggers>                </ComboBox>BTW: InvokeCommanAction CommandName property are trying to find command in properties of view.   • Flixel - Animated Tilemaps

    - by nospoone
    I am using Flixel 2.55 and I am trying to animate a tilemap. I found this piece of code that apparently enables the use of sprites as tiles. From what I understand, this loops over the tilemap's graphic and replaces the tile's pixels with the sprite's pixels each time they change. I have implemented the class and it's working, but not completely; the tiles get replaced, but do not animate unless the camera moves. Here's the relevant parts from LevelLoader.as, which only instantiates the AnimatedTilemaps (piece of code from forum) and pushes sprites to the array. // AnimatedTile is just an extended FlxSprite private var _waterTop1:AnimatedTile; // Create ground tilemap _groundTilemap = new AnimatedTilemap(); _groundTilemap.loadMap(_rawXML.Ground, Assets.OverworldGround, 8, 8); FlxG.state.add(_groundTilemap); _waterTop1 = new AnimatedTile(8, 8, Assets.WaterTop, 100); // .Animate only adds and plays an animation, with a startAtFrame param. _waterTop1.Animate('run', [0...47], 10, true, 0); Now, it seems as though the sprites are updating. I tried tracing the update()s, and they are running for both the sprites and the tilemap. The sprites are even changing frames. Using only AnimatedTiles and hard placing them (giving a x and y) works and animates. What troubles me is that they only update when the camera moves. I've been on this for a week now and can't seem to put my finger on what's wrong. I am also open to other solutions to have animates tiles in a tilemap. If other details are needed, just ask. PS: Sorry for my english, I am not a native speaker...

  • Passing multiple simple POST Values to ASP.NET Web API

    - by Rick Strahl
    A few weeks backs I posted a blog post  about what does and doesn't work with ASP.NET Web API when it comes to POSTing data to a Web API controller. One of the features that doesn't work out of the box - somewhat unexpectedly -  is the ability to map POST form variables to simple parameters of a Web API method. For example imagine you have this form and you want to post this data to a Web API end point like this via AJAX: <form> Name: <input type="name" name="name" value="Rick" /> Value: <input type="value" name="value" value="12" /> Entered: <input type="entered" name="entered" value="12/01/2011" /> <input type="button" id="btnSend" value="Send" /> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#btnSend").click( function() { $.post("samples/PostMultipleSimpleValues?action=kazam", $("form").serialize(), function (result) { alert(result); }); }); </script> or you might do this more explicitly by creating a simple client map and specifying the POST values directly by hand:$.post("samples/PostMultipleSimpleValues?action=kazam", { name: "Rick", value: 1, entered: "12/01/2012" }, $("form").serialize(), function (result) { alert(result); }); On the wire this generates a simple POST request with Url Encoded values in the content:POST /AspNetWebApi/samples/PostMultipleSimpleValues?action=kazam HTTP/1.1 Host: localhost User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1 Accept: application/json Connection: keep-alive Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8 X-Requested-With: XMLHttpRequest Referer: http://localhost/AspNetWebApi/FormPostTest.html Content-Length: 41 Pragma: no-cache Cache-Control: no-cachename=Rick&value=12&entered=12%2F10%2F2011 Seems simple enough, right? We are basically posting 3 form variables and 1 query string value to the server. Unfortunately Web API can't handle request out of the box. If I create a method like this:[HttpPost] public string PostMultipleSimpleValues(string name, int value, DateTime entered, string action = null) { return string.Format("Name: {0}, Value: {1}, Date: {2}, Action: {3}", name, value, entered, action); }You'll find that you get an HTTP 404 error and { "Message": "No HTTP resource was found that matches the request URI…"} Yes, it's possible to pass multiple POST parameters of course, but Web API expects you to use Model Binding for this - mapping the post parameters to a strongly typed .NET object, not to single parameters. Alternately you can also accept a FormDataCollection parameter on your API method to get a name value collection of all POSTed values. If you're using JSON only, using the dynamic JObject/JValue objects might also work. ModelBinding is fine in many use cases, but can quickly become overkill if you only need to pass a couple of simple parameters to many methods. Especially in applications with many, many AJAX callbacks the 'parameter mapping type' per method signature can lead to serious class pollution in a project very quickly. Simple POST variables are also commonly used in AJAX applications to pass data to the server, even in many complex public APIs. So this is not an uncommon use case, and - maybe more so a behavior that I would have expected Web API to support natively. The question "Why aren't my POST parameters mapping to Web API method parameters" is already a frequent one… So this is something that I think is fairly important, but unfortunately missing in the base Web API installation. Creating a Custom Parameter Binder Luckily Web API is greatly extensible and there's a way to create a custom Parameter Binding to provide this functionality! Although this solution took me a long while to find and then only with the help of some folks Microsoft (thanks Hong Mei!!!), it's not difficult to hook up in your own projects. It requires one small class and a GlobalConfiguration hookup. Web API parameter bindings allow you to intercept processing of individual parameters - they deal with mapping parameters to the signature as well as converting the parameters to the actual values that are returned. Here's the implementation of the SimplePostVariableParameterBinding class:public class SimplePostVariableParameterBinding : HttpParameterBinding { private const string MultipleBodyParameters = "MultipleBodyParameters"; public SimplePostVariableParameterBinding(HttpParameterDescriptor descriptor) : base(descriptor) { } /// <summary> /// Check for simple binding parameters in POST data. Bind POST /// data as well as query string data /// </summary> public override Task ExecuteBindingAsync(ModelMetadataProvider metadataProvider, HttpActionContext actionContext, CancellationToken cancellationToken) { // Body can only be read once, so read and cache it NameValueCollection col = TryReadBody(actionContext.Request); string stringValue = null; if (col != null) stringValue = col[Descriptor.ParameterName]; // try reading query string if we have no POST/PUT match if (stringValue == null) { var query = actionContext.Request.GetQueryNameValuePairs(); if (query != null) { var matches = query.Where(kv => kv.Key.ToLower() == Descriptor.ParameterName.ToLower()); if (matches.Count() > 0) stringValue = matches.First().Value; } } object value = StringToType(stringValue); // Set the binding result here SetValue(actionContext, value); // now, we can return a completed task with no result TaskCompletionSource<AsyncVoid> tcs = new TaskCompletionSource<AsyncVoid>(); tcs.SetResult(default(AsyncVoid)); return tcs.Task; } private object StringToType(string stringValue) { object value = null; if (stringValue == null) value = null; else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(string)) value = stringValue; else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(int)) value = int.Parse(stringValue, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(Int32)) value = Int32.Parse(stringValue, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(Int64)) value = Int64.Parse(stringValue, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(decimal)) value = decimal.Parse(stringValue, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(double)) value = double.Parse(stringValue, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(DateTime)) value = DateTime.Parse(stringValue, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); else if (Descriptor.ParameterType == typeof(bool)) { value = false; if (stringValue == "true" || stringValue == "on" || stringValue == "1") value = true; } else value = stringValue; return value; } /// <summary> /// Read and cache the request body /// </summary> /// <param name="request"></param> /// <returns></returns> private NameValueCollection TryReadBody(HttpRequestMessage request) { object result = null; // try to read out of cache first if (!request.Properties.TryGetValue(MultipleBodyParameters, out result)) { // parsing the string like firstname=Hongmei&lastname=Ge result = request.Content.ReadAsFormDataAsync().Result; request.Properties.Add(MultipleBodyParameters, result); } return result as NameValueCollection; } private struct AsyncVoid { } }   The ExecuteBindingAsync method is fired for each parameter that is mapped and sent for conversion. This custom binding is fired only if the incoming parameter is a simple type (that gets defined later when I hook up the binding), so this binding never fires on complex types or if the first type is not a simple type. For the first parameter of a request the Binding first reads the request body into a NameValueCollection and caches that in the request.Properties collection. The request body can only be read once, so the first parameter request reads it and then caches it. Subsequent parameters then use the cached POST value collection. Once the form collection is available the value of the parameter is read, and the value is translated into the target type requested by the Descriptor. SetValue writes out the value to be mapped. Once you have the ParameterBinding in place, the binding has to be assigned. This is done along with all other Web API configuration tasks at application startup in global.asax's Application_Start:GlobalConfiguration.Configuration.ParameterBindingRules .Insert(0, (HttpParameterDescriptor descriptor) => { var supportedMethods = descriptor.ActionDescriptor.SupportedHttpMethods; // Only apply this binder on POST and PUT operations if (supportedMethods.Contains(HttpMethod.Post) || supportedMethods.Contains(HttpMethod.Put)) { var supportedTypes = new Type[] { typeof(string), typeof(int), typeof(decimal), typeof(double), typeof(bool), typeof(DateTime) }; if (supportedTypes.Where(typ => typ == descriptor.ParameterType).Count() > 0) return new SimplePostVariableParameterBinding(descriptor); } // let the default bindings do their work return null; });   The ParameterBindingRules.Insert method takes a delegate that checks which type of requests it should handle. The logic here checks whether the request is POST or PUT and whether the parameter type is a simple type that is supported. Web API calls this delegate once for each method signature it tries to map and the delegate returns null to indicate it's not handling this parameter, or it returns a new parameter binding instance - in this case the SimplePostVariableParameterBinding. Once the parameter binding and this hook up code is in place, you can now pass simple POST values to methods with simple parameters. The examples I showed above should now work in addition to the standard bindings. Summary Clearly this is not easy to discover. I spent quite a bit of time digging through the Web API source trying to figure this out on my own without much luck. It took Hong Mei at Micrsoft to provide a base example as I asked around so I can't take credit for this solution :-). But once you know where to look, Web API is brilliantly extensible to make it relatively easy to customize the parameter behavior. I'm very stoked that this got resolved  - in the last two months I've had two customers with projects that decided not to use Web API in AJAX heavy SPA applications because this POST variable mapping wasn't available. This might actually change their mind to still switch back and take advantage of the many great features in Web API. I too frequently use plain POST variables for communicating with server AJAX handlers and while I could have worked around this (with untyped JObject or the Form collection mostly), having proper POST to parameter mapping makes things much easier. I said this in my last post on POST data and say it again here: I think POST to method parameter mapping should have been shipped in the box with Web API, because without knowing about this limitation the expectation is that simple POST variables map to parameters just like query string values do. I hope Microsoft considers including this type of functionality natively in the next version of Web API natively or at least as a built-in HttpParameterBinding that can be just added. This is especially true, since this binding doesn't affect existing bindings. • Restful Services, oData, and Rest Sharp

    - by jkrebsbach
    After a great presentation by Jason Sheehan at MDC about RestSharp, I decided to implement it. RestSharp is a .Net framework for consuming restful data sources via either Json or XML. My first step was to put together a Restful data source for RestSharp to consume.  Staying entirely withing .Net, I decided to use Microsoft's oData implementation, built on System.Data.Services.DataServices.  Natively, these support Json, or atom+pub xml.  (XML with a few bells and whistles added on) There are three main steps for creating an oData data source: 1)  override CreateDSPMetaData This is where the metadata data is returned.  The meta data defines the structure of the data to return.  The structure contains the relationships between data objects, along with what properties the objects expose.  The meta data can and should be somehow cached so that the structure is not rebuild with every data request. 2) override CreateDataSource The context contains the data the data source will publish.  This method is the conduit which will populate the metadata objects to be returned to the requestor. 3) implement static InitializeService At this point we can set up security, along with setting up properties of the web service (versioning, etc)   Here is a web service which publishes stock prices for various Products (stocks) in various Categories. namespace RestService {     public class RestServiceImpl : DSPDataService<DSPContext>     {         private static DSPContext _context;         private static DSPMetadata _metadata;         /// <summary>         /// Populate traversable data source         /// </summary>         /// <returns></returns>         protected override DSPContext CreateDataSource()         {             if (_context == null)             {                 _context = new DSPContext();                 Category utilities = new Category(0);                 utilities.Name = "Electric";                 Category financials = new Category(1);                 financials.Name = "Financial";                                 IList products = _context.GetResourceSetEntities("Products");                 Product electric = new Product(0, utilities);                 electric.Name = "ABC Electric";                 electric.Description = "Electric Utility";                 electric.Price = 3.5;                 products.Add(electric);                 Product water = new Product(1, utilities);                 water.Name = "XYZ Water";                 water.Description = "Water Utility";                 water.Price = 2.4;                 products.Add(water);                 Product banks = new Product(2, financials);                 banks.Name = "FatCat Bank";                 banks.Description = "A bank that's almost too big";                 banks.Price = 19.9; // This will never get to the client                 products.Add(banks);                 IList categories = _context.GetResourceSetEntities("Categories");                 categories.Add(utilities);                 categories.Add(financials);                 utilities.Products.Add(electric);                 utilities.Products.Add(electric);                 financials.Products.Add(banks);             }             return _context;         }         /// <summary>         /// Setup rules describing published data structure - relationships between data,         /// key field, other searchable fields, etc.         /// </summary>         /// <returns></returns>         protected override DSPMetadata CreateDSPMetadata()         {             if (_metadata == null)             {                 _metadata = new DSPMetadata("DemoService", "DataServiceProviderDemo");                 // Define entity type product                 ResourceType product = _metadata.AddEntityType(typeof(Product), "Product");                 _metadata.AddKeyProperty(product, "ProductID");                 // Only add properties we wish to share with end users                 _metadata.AddPrimitiveProperty(product, "Name");                 _metadata.AddPrimitiveProperty(product, "Description");                 EntityPropertyMappingAttribute att = new EntityPropertyMappingAttribute("Name",                     SyndicationItemProperty.Title, SyndicationTextContentKind.Plaintext, true);                 product.AddEntityPropertyMappingAttribute(att);                 att = new EntityPropertyMappingAttribute("Description",                     SyndicationItemProperty.Summary, SyndicationTextContentKind.Plaintext, true);                 product.AddEntityPropertyMappingAttribute(att);                 // Define products as a set of product entities                 ResourceSet products = _metadata.AddResourceSet("Products", product);                 // Define entity type category                 ResourceType category = _metadata.AddEntityType(typeof(Category), "Category");                 _metadata.AddKeyProperty(category, "CategoryID");                 _metadata.AddPrimitiveProperty(category, "Name");                 _metadata.AddPrimitiveProperty(category, "Description");                 // Define categories as a set of category entities                 ResourceSet categories = _metadata.AddResourceSet("Categories", category);                 att = new EntityPropertyMappingAttribute("Name",                     SyndicationItemProperty.Title, SyndicationTextContentKind.Plaintext, true);                 category.AddEntityPropertyMappingAttribute(att);                 att = new EntityPropertyMappingAttribute("Description",                     SyndicationItemProperty.Summary, SyndicationTextContentKind.Plaintext, true);                 category.AddEntityPropertyMappingAttribute(att);                 // A product has a category, a category has products                 _metadata.AddResourceReferenceProperty(product, "Category", categories);                 _metadata.AddResourceSetReferenceProperty(category, "Products", products);             }             return _metadata;         }         /// <summary>         /// Based on the requesting user, can set up permissions to Read, Write, etc.         /// </summary>         /// <param name="config"></param>         public static void InitializeService(DataServiceConfiguration config)         {             config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("*", EntitySetRights.All);             config.DataServiceBehavior.MaxProtocolVersion = DataServiceProtocolVersion.V2;             config.DataServiceBehavior.AcceptProjectionRequests = true;         }     } }     The objects prefixed with DSP come from the samples on the oData site: http://www.odata.org/developers The products and categories objects are POCO business objects with no special modifiers. Three main options are available for defining the MetaData of data sources in .Net: 1) Generate Entity Data model (Potentially directly from SQL Server database).  This requires the least amount of manual interaction, and uses the edmx WYSIWYG editor to generate a data model.  This can be directly tied to the SQL Server database and generated from the database if you want a data access layer tightly coupled with your database. 2) Object model decorations.  If you already have a POCO data layer, you can decorate your objects with properties to statically inform the compiler how the objects are related.  The disadvantage is there are now tags strewn about your business layer that need to be updated as the business rules change.  3) Programmatically construct metadata object.  This is the object illustrated above in CreateDSPMetaData.  This puts all relationship information into one central programmatic location.  Here business rules are constructed when the DSPMetaData response object is returned.   Once you have your service up and running, RestSharp is designed for XML / Json, along with the native Microsoft library.  There are currently some differences between how Jason made RestSharp expect XML with how atom+pub works, so I found better results currently with the Json implementation - modifying the RestSharp XML parser to make an atom+pub parser is fairly trivial though, so use what implementation works best for you. I put together a sample console app which calls the RestSvcImpl.svc service defined above (and assumes it to be running on port 2000).  I used both RestSharp as a client, and also the default Microsoft oData client tools. namespace RestConsole {     class Program     {         private static DataServiceContext _ctx;         private enum DemoType         {             Xml,             Json         }         static void Main(string[] args)         {             // Microsoft implementation             _ctx = new DataServiceContext(new System.Uri("http://localhost:2000/RestServiceImpl.svc"));             var msProducts = RunQuery<Product>("Products").ToList();             var msCategory = RunQuery<Category>("/Products(0)/Category").AsEnumerable().Single();             var msFilteredProducts = RunQuery<Product>("/Products?$filter=length(Name) ge 4").ToList();             // RestSharp implementation                          DemoType demoType = DemoType.Json;             var client = new RestClient("http://localhost:2000/RestServiceImpl.svc");             client.ClearHandlers(); // Remove all available handlers             // Set up handler depending on what situation dictates             if (demoType == DemoType.Json)                 client.AddHandler("application/json", new RestSharp.Deserializers.JsonDeserializer());             else if (demoType == DemoType.Xml)             {                 client.AddHandler("application/atom+xml", new RestSharp.Deserializers.XmlDeserializer());             }                          var request = new RestRequest();             if (demoType == DemoType.Json)                 request.RootElement = "d"; // service root element for json             else if (demoType == DemoType.Xml)             {                 request.XmlNamespace = "http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom";             }                              // Return all products             request.Resource = "/Products?$orderby=Name";             RestResponse<List<Product>> productsResp = client.Execute<List<Product>>(request);             List<Product> products = productsResp.Data;             // Find category for product with ProductID = 1             request.Resource = string.Format("/Products(1)/Category");             RestResponse<Category> categoryResp = client.Execute<Category>(request);             Category category = categoryResp.Data;             // Specialized queries             request.Resource = string.Format("/Products?$filter=ProductID eq {0}", 1);             RestResponse<Product> productResp = client.Execute<Product>(request);             Product product = productResp.Data;                          request.Resource = string.Format("/Products?$filter=Name eq '{0}'", "XYZ Water");             productResp = client.Execute<Product>(request);             product = productResp.Data;         }         private static IEnumerable<TElement> RunQuery<TElement>(string queryUri)         {             try             {                 return _ctx.Execute<TElement>(new Uri(queryUri, UriKind.Relative));             }             catch (Exception ex)             {                 throw ex;             }         }              } }   Feel free to step through the code a few times and to attach a debugger to the service as well to see how and where the context and metadata objects are constructed and returned.  Pay special attention to the response object being returned by the oData service - There are several properties of the RestRequest that can be used to help troubleshoot when the structure of the response is not exactly what would be expected.

  • Unity – Part 5: Injecting Values

    - by Ricardo Peres
    Introduction This is the fifth post on Unity. You can find the introductory post here, the second post, on dependency injection here, a third one on Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) here and the latest so far, on writing custom extensions, here. This time we will talk about injecting simple values. An Inversion of Control (IoC) / Dependency Injector (DI) container like Unity can be used for things other than injecting complex class dependencies. It can also be used for setting property values or method/constructor parameters whenever a class is built. The main difference is that these values do not have a lifetime manager associated with them and do not come from the regular IoC registration store. Unlike, for instance, MEF, Unity won’t let you register as a dependency a string or an integer, so you have to take a different approach, which I will describe in this post. Scenario Let’s imagine we have a base interface that describes a logger – the same as in previous examples: 1: public interface ILogger 2: { 3: void Log(String message); 4: } And a concrete implementation that writes to a file: 1: public class FileLogger : ILogger 2: { 3: public String Filename 4: { 5: get; 6: set; 7: } 8:  9: #region ILogger Members 10:  11: public void Log(String message) 12: { 13: using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(this.Filename)) 14: { 15: Byte[] data = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(message); 16: 17: file.Write(data, 0, data.Length); 18: } 19: } 20:  21: #endregion 22: } And let’s say we want the Filename property to come from the application settings (appSettings) section on the Web/App.config file. As usual with Unity, there is an extensibility point that allows us to automatically do this, both with code configuration or statically on the configuration file. Extending Injection We start by implementing a class that will retrieve a value from the appSettings by inheriting from ValueElement: 1: sealed class AppSettingsParameterValueElement : ValueElement, IDependencyResolverPolicy 2: { 3: #region Private methods 4: private Object CreateInstance(Type parameterType) 5: { 6: Object configurationValue = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[this.AppSettingsKey]; 7:  8: if (parameterType != typeof(String)) 9: { 10: TypeConverter typeConverter = this.GetTypeConverter(parameterType); 11:  12: configurationValue = typeConverter.ConvertFromInvariantString(configurationValue as String); 13: } 14:  15: return (configurationValue); 16: } 17: #endregion 18:  19: #region Private methods 20: private TypeConverter GetTypeConverter(Type parameterType) 21: { 22: if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(this.TypeConverterTypeName) == false) 23: { 24: return (Activator.CreateInstance(TypeResolver.ResolveType(this.TypeConverterTypeName)) as TypeConverter); 25: } 26: else 27: { 28: return (TypeDescriptor.GetConverter(parameterType)); 29: } 30: } 31: #endregion 32:  33: #region Public override methods 34: public override InjectionParameterValue GetInjectionParameterValue(IUnityContainer container, Type parameterType) 35: { 36: Object value = this.CreateInstance(parameterType); 37: return (new InjectionParameter(parameterType, value)); 38: } 39: #endregion 40:  41: #region IDependencyResolverPolicy Members 42:  43: public Object Resolve(IBuilderContext context) 44: { 45: Type parameterType = null; 46:  47: if (context.CurrentOperation is ResolvingPropertyValueOperation) 48: { 49: ResolvingPropertyValueOperation op = (context.CurrentOperation as ResolvingPropertyValueOperation); 50: PropertyInfo prop = op.TypeBeingConstructed.GetProperty(op.PropertyName); 51: parameterType = prop.PropertyType; 52: } 53: else if (context.CurrentOperation is ConstructorArgumentResolveOperation) 54: { 55: ConstructorArgumentResolveOperation op = (context.CurrentOperation as ConstructorArgumentResolveOperation); 56: String args = op.ConstructorSignature.Split('(')[1].Split(')')[0]; 57: Type[] types = args.Split(',').Select(a => Type.GetType(a.Split(' ')[0])).ToArray(); 58: ConstructorInfo ctor = op.TypeBeingConstructed.GetConstructor(types); 59: parameterType = ctor.GetParameters().Where(p => p.Name == op.ParameterName).Single().ParameterType; 60: } 61: else if (context.CurrentOperation is MethodArgumentResolveOperation) 62: { 63: MethodArgumentResolveOperation op = (context.CurrentOperation as MethodArgumentResolveOperation); 64: String methodName = op.MethodSignature.Split('(')[0].Split(' ')[1]; 65: String args = op.MethodSignature.Split('(')[1].Split(')')[0]; 66: Type[] types = args.Split(',').Select(a => Type.GetType(a.Split(' ')[0])).ToArray(); 67: MethodInfo method = op.TypeBeingConstructed.GetMethod(methodName, types); 68: parameterType = method.GetParameters().Where(p => p.Name == op.ParameterName).Single().ParameterType; 69: } 70:  71: return (this.CreateInstance(parameterType)); 72: } 73:  74: #endregion 75:  76: #region Public properties 77: [ConfigurationProperty("appSettingsKey", IsRequired = true)] 78: public String AppSettingsKey 79: { 80: get 81: { 82: return ((String)base["appSettingsKey"]); 83: } 84:  85: set 86: { 87: base["appSettingsKey"] = value; 88: } 89: } 90: #endregion 91: } As you can see from the implementation of the IDependencyResolverPolicy.Resolve method, this will work in three different scenarios: When it is applied to a property; When it is applied to a constructor parameter; When it is applied to an initialization method. The implementation will even try to convert the value to its declared destination, for example, if the destination property is an Int32, it will try to convert the appSettings stored string to an Int32. Injection By Configuration If we want to configure injection by configuration, we need to implement a custom section extension by inheriting from SectionExtension, and registering our custom element with the name “appSettings”: 1: sealed class AppSettingsParameterInjectionElementExtension : SectionExtension 2: { 3: public override void AddExtensions(SectionExtensionContext context) 4: { 5: context.AddElement<AppSettingsParameterValueElement>("appSettings"); 6: } 7: } And on the configuration file, for setting a property, we use it like this: 1: <appSettings> 2: <add key="LoggerFilename" value="Log.txt"/> 3: </appSettings> 4: <unity xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/practices/2010/unity"> 5: <container> 6: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.ConsoleLogger, MyAssembly"/> 7: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.FileLogger, MyAssembly" name="File"> 8: <lifetime type="singleton"/> 9: <property name="Filename"> 10: <appSettings appSettingsKey="LoggerFilename"/> 11: </property> 12: </register> 13: </container> 14: </unity> If we would like to inject the value as a constructor parameter, it would be instead: 1: <unity xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/practices/2010/unity"> 2: <sectionExtension type="MyNamespace.AppSettingsParameterInjectionElementExtension, MyAssembly" /> 3: <container> 4: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.ConsoleLogger, MyAssembly"/> 5: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.FileLogger, MyAssembly" name="File"> 6: <lifetime type="singleton"/> 7: <constructor> 8: <param name="filename" type="System.String"> 9: <appSettings appSettingsKey="LoggerFilename"/> 10: </param> 11: </constructor> 12: </register> 13: </container> 14: </unity> Notice the appSettings section, where we add a LoggerFilename entry, which is the same as the one referred by our AppSettingsParameterInjectionElementExtension extension. For more advanced behavior, you can add a TypeConverterName attribute to the appSettings declaration, where you can pass an assembly qualified name of a class that inherits from TypeConverter. This class will be responsible for converting the appSettings value to a destination type. Injection By Attribute If we would like to use attributes instead, we need to create a custom attribute by inheriting from DependencyResolutionAttribute: 1: [Serializable] 2: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Parameter | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = false, Inherited = true)] 3: public sealed class AppSettingsDependencyResolutionAttribute : DependencyResolutionAttribute 4: { 5: public AppSettingsDependencyResolutionAttribute(String appSettingsKey) 6: { 7: this.AppSettingsKey = appSettingsKey; 8: } 9:  10: public String TypeConverterTypeName 11: { 12: get; 13: set; 14: } 15:  16: public String AppSettingsKey 17: { 18: get; 19: private set; 20: } 21:  22: public override IDependencyResolverPolicy CreateResolver(Type typeToResolve) 23: { 24: return (new AppSettingsParameterValueElement() { AppSettingsKey = this.AppSettingsKey, TypeConverterTypeName = this.TypeConverterTypeName }); 25: } 26: } As for file configuration, there is a mandatory property for setting the appSettings key and an optional TypeConverterName  for setting the name of a TypeConverter. Both the custom attribute and the custom section return an instance of the injector AppSettingsParameterValueElement that we implemented in the first place. Now, the attribute needs to be placed before the injected class’ Filename property: 1: public class FileLogger : ILogger 2: { 3: [AppSettingsDependencyResolution("LoggerFilename")] 4: public String Filename 5: { 6: get; 7: set; 8: } 9:  10: #region ILogger Members 11:  12: public void Log(String message) 13: { 14: using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(this.Filename)) 15: { 16: Byte[] data = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(message); 17: 18: file.Write(data, 0, data.Length); 19: } 20: } 21:  22: #endregion 23: } Or, if we wanted to use constructor injection: 1: public class FileLogger : ILogger 2: { 3: public String Filename 4: { 5: get; 6: set; 7: } 8:  9: public FileLogger([AppSettingsDependencyResolution("LoggerFilename")] String filename) 10: { 11: this.Filename = filename; 12: } 13:  14: #region ILogger Members 15:  16: public void Log(String message) 17: { 18: using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(this.Filename)) 19: { 20: Byte[] data = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(message); 21: 22: file.Write(data, 0, data.Length); 23: } 24: } 25:  26: #endregion 27: } Usage Just do: 1: ILogger logger = ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance<ILogger>("File"); And off you go! A simple way do avoid hardcoded values in component registrations. Of course, this same concept can be applied to registry keys, environment values, XML attributes, etc, etc, just change the implementation of the AppSettingsParameterValueElement class. Next stop: custom lifetime managers.
