• DotNetOpenAuth OpenIdTextBox For Google/Yahoo

  If I want to integrate DotNetOpenAuth (primary for people to use their Google/Yahoo accounts to login, not act as provider) into my existing site, is this one line control good enough? <rp:OpenIdTextBox ID="OpenIdTextBox1" runat="server" /> Say, if a user wants to login as Google, I can simply set the textbox to "https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id" and then they can login. I tried it with my Google account, it seems working and I can get the token from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name. Is this "one line" solution secure enough for production? or is it a "must" that I have to use "OpenIdSelector" or "OpenIDLogin" control? I also opened the .net template and some samples, they are very complicated. There are PAPE policies, xrds.aspx (for discovery), ConsumerKey + ConsumerSecret...etc. As a newbie, I am very confused. Any tips on this will be really appreciated. Thanks

• Problem creating site using Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express 2008

  Hi, this is a very newbie question, sorry! I need to create an aspx website based con C# and am calling some webservices based on some DLL's I already have. Beforem purchasing Visual Studio, I decided to try Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express (is this ok?) creating a Web Application ASP.NET based on Visual C#. I created the form to enter the data which is submitted when clicking the process button. At this point I need to call stuff from the DLL, which I have added in the Solution Explorer via Add Reference, selecting the DLL from the COM list. But whenever I run the project, I always get the error "the type or namespace xxx cannot be found - maybe a using directive or assembler directive is missing" when trying to create the object. What is my stupid mistake? Thanks!

• Version Control for developers new to source control

  I've been writing code for a few years now and our backup strategy has been to zip the entire code directory up every few days and put it somewhere else on your hard drive, or occasionally upload it to some online file hosting service. Unfortunately the file hosting service got canceled without telling me and we lost years of backups. It's come down to the point where I finally have to learn to use version control. The only problems are My boss really doesn't like SVN, he tried it and it had a high learning curve (at least his client). We need a reliable place to host it (we can pay a reasonable amount). Can someone suggest what may be the best version control system and client for a newbie which won't be too annoying. Second what is a good remote version control service?

  Hello, I was about to develop iphone app and I want suggestion from the expert since I am totally newbie in it. I have one classified website which is written in php and mysql. What I want to create is Iphone app which can view those classifieds. There will be no complicated function at first version. It will be have different categories and query and display according to the category. And if there's new classified ad, they will get push notification. What I want to know is, what should i go with ? Native or using phonegap ? Is phonegap supports push notification ? Is native app can just get the results through mysql ? or do i need to change it to sql lite ? Any speed different between native and phone gap ? Any advantages and disadvantages ? Thanks.

• Passing parameters to a flash movie inserted in a VB program

  Hi! I need to insert a Flash movie in a Visual Basic 2008 express form and send parameters to the movie, but am a newbie to VB. The flash movie will plot points sent by VB in a graph. I tried to insert the Shockwave Flash control in the form but cannot find it anywhere. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf? Thanks for any help!

  i have small problem.... i have one content type say cars with various fields, say more than 30 , user can create the content types... now i would like to show only few fields in different phases,is there any possibility to do that. more explantaion:- user may enter the car model and car details in the first page and upload images in second page.(say a popup in the block) is this is possible ? i m newbie to drupal, i would like to do this kind of data updation, i though with designing a one more content type with the existing fields, can any one explain this issue... what if i design a content type car1 with same fields say(file uplaod) in car content type.

Maybe with a variable or something like <xsl:variable name="node1Present" select="true()"/> <xsl:if test="$node1Present"> ... </xsl:if> I don't understand how to construct the variable to reflect the 'test a node exist' (test="node/node1")

• Need to parse HTML document for links-- use a library like html5lib or something else?

  I'm a very newbie webpage builder, currently working on creating a website that needs to change link colours according to the destination page. The links will be sorted into different classes (e.g. good, bad, neutral) by certain user input criteria-- e.g. links with content the user would find of interest is colored blue, stuff that the user (presumably) doesn't want to see is colored as normal text, etc. I reckon I need a way to parse the webpage for links to the content (stored in MySQL database), change the colors for all the links on the page (so I need to be able to change the link classes in the HTML as well) before outputting the adapted page to the user. I read that regex is not a good way to find those links-- so should I use a library, and if so, is html5lib good for what I'm doing?

  Hey, please help a newbie in Rails :) I have protect_from_forgery call (which is given by default) with no attributes in my ApplicationController class. Basically here's the code: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper :all # include all helpers, all the time protect_from_forgery helper_method :current_user_session, :current_user filter_parameter_logging :password, :password_confirmation What I assume it should do is: it should prevent any POST requests without correct authenticity_token. But when I send post request with jQuery like the one below, it works fine (there's update statement that is executed in the database)! $.post($(this).attr("href"), { _method: "PUT", data: { test: true } }); I see in console that there's no authenticity_token among sent parameters, but request is still considered valid. Why is that?

  I'm a D3.js newbie and I'm learning how to play around with data. Let's say I have an object with names as keys, and each key has an array of numbers like this: var userdata = { 'John' : [0, 1, 3, 9, 8, 7], 'Harry': [0, 10, 7, 1, 1, 11], 'Steve': [3, 1, 4, 4, 4, 17], 'Adam' : [4, 77, 2, 13, 11, 13] }; For each user, I would like to append an SVG object and then plot the line with the array of values for that user. So here is my assumption of how that would look based on tutorials, but I know it is incorrect.   Heyy all, I needed some help with ONC RPC programming. My task is to create two-tier client-server architecture wherein one main server (something like a directory) keeps a track of level-two servers and acts as a lookup; the level-two servers exposing some trivial functions, and finally, the clients for level-two servers. The clients ask the directory where a server is located, and then communicate with it. Using RPCGEN, we can create a pair of client-server code; however, the clients in this case need to have stubs for the directory as well as the level-two functions. Being a newbie to RPC, I'm having trouble conceptualizing the way I should code this. How can I call a function from a different server if a client is generated using a different IDL ? • How do I setup a custom Gem.path using JRuby::Rack?

  Hi Nick et al, I've been having some fun looking at to source code of JRuby-Rack and Rubygems to try to figure out how to solve a org.jruby.rack.RackInitializationException: no such file to load -- compass in my rackup script cased by require 'compass'. I'm passing in a custom 'gem.path' as a servlet init parameter and it is being correctly picked up by jruby-rack as far as I can tell by debugging in my rackup script: ENV['GEM_PATH'] => '/foo/lib/.jruby/gems' (expected) but rubygems seems to be broken: Gem.path => file:/foo/lib/jruby-complete-1.4.0.jar!/META-INF/jruby.home/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 I'm not sure why rubygems has not adjusted it's gem_path nor the LOAD_PATH, thus breaking require? Thanks again, I'm still a newbie at ruby, jruby, rack and sinatra. Any pointers in the right direction appreciated! Ben

• Why does python use 'magic methods'?

  I've been playing around with Python recently, and one thing I'm finding a bit odd is the extensive use of 'magic methods', e.g. to make its length available an object implements a method def __len__(self) and then it is called when you write len(obj). I was just wondering why objects don't simply define a len(self) method and have it called directly as a member of the object, e.g. obj.len()? I'm sure there must be good reasons for Python doing it the way it does, but as a newbie I haven't worked out what they are yet.

• Android: videocamera, limit length of videos taken

  I'm working in Android and starting the video camera activity using ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Is there any way I can limit the length (in time) of the videos the user can take? I think this is possible if you use MediaRecorder, but I don't really fancy doing that since it's so much more complicated than using the simple ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Current code: Intent videoCaptureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); startActivityForResult(videoCaptureIntent,1); If it's not possible, does anyone know whether I could set a timer (TimerTask?) in Java and then show a Toast message after a certain length of time warning the user that they need to stop filming? (I'm a Java newbie, so I don't know if this is exactly what I need.)

• relational database: how to design this table

  I'm a database newbie designing a database. I'll use SO to ask my question because it's easier to ask it on something that you can see already, but it's not the same, it will just help me understand the right approach. As you can see, there are many questions here and each can have many answers. How should I store the answers in a table? Should I store all the answers in the SAME table with a unique id (make it the key) and just a new field for the question id? What if there are 100,000 answers like there is here? Do I still store them in 1 table? What keys should I use to minimize search time when I want to search for the answers of a specific question? The database is both read and write if that makes any difference in this case.

• Unable to allocate new pages in table space "XXXX" ... but it's 250 megs and I'm only running DDL

  Hello, I'm a DB2 newbie, so I'd appreciate even any pointers on where to start looking. We have great DB2 admins but they're swamped with other issues now, so I'm trying to do some troubleshooting on a development database. My situation is that I have a tablespace that's giving me this error message Unable to allocate new pages in table space "[MyTableSpace]". However, all I'm doing is running multiple (hundreds) of DDL statements, mainly creating tables but also indexes and pk scripts. So, considering that the tablespace has about 250 mg, I shouldn't be running out of space, right? Here's another thing - it appears that after I leave my script for a while, something "resets" and works for a while, then I begin to have the tablespace issue again. thanks, Sylvia

  I have a pdf page displayed with CGContextDrawPDFPage in QuartzDemo sample application. I want to keep this page shown and have an image slide in from top over this page, just as it can be seen in the iBooks application. It's a book, the sliding image is a bookmark that slides in when you are about to close the book. • Connecting to external MySQL DB from a web server not running MySQL

  While I've been working with MySQL for years, this is the first time I've run across this very newbie-esq issue. Due to a client demand, I must host their website files (PHP) on a IIS server that is not running MySQL (instead, they are running MSSQL). However, I have developed the site using a MySQL database which is located on an external host (Rackspace Cloud). Obviously, my mysql_connect function is now bombing because MySQL is not running on localhost. Question: Is it even possible to hit an external MySQL database if localhost is not running MySQL?   Is it possible to have support for enabling DataModelSelection on a list page paginated via EntityQuery? (All the examples load the list by performing a query on the @Factory method). But, I would like to re-use the existing pagination mechanism and just enable the ability to support DataModelSelection on it. I am also assuming that DataModelSelection is capable of tracking a single row in a List, how do we extend this to support a certain action (say deletion, activation ...) of multiple rows.   I am using an external library for Artificial Neural Networks in my project.. While testing the ANN, It gave me output of all NaN (not a number in C#) The ANN has 8 input , 5 hidden , 5 hidden , 2 output, and all activation layers are of Linear type , and it uses back-propagation, with learning rate 0.65 I used one testcase for training { -2.2, 1.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.1, 5, 3, -5 } ,{ -0.3, 0.2 } for 1000 epoch And I tested it on { 0.2, -0.2, 5.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0, 35, 0.0 } which gave { NaN , NaN} Note: this is one example of many that produces same case... I am trying to discover whether it is a bug in the library, or an illogical configuration.. The reasons I could think of for illogical configuration: All layers should not be linear Can not have descending size layers, i.e 8-5-5-2 is bad.. Only one testcase ? Values must be in range [0,1] or [-1,1] Is any of the above reasons could be the cause of error, or there are some constraints/rules that I do not know in ANN designing..? Note: I am newbie in ANN

  Coming from a SQL Server background, I'm a newbie with regard to HBase, but the technology looks to be a good fit for what we're doing and the cost is definitely right! I need to maintain a list of log entries which normally I would create in an RDBS as: create table Log ( UserID int, SiteID int, Page varchar(50), Date smalldatetime ) where one user may have 0 or 1000 rows in this simple table. Typical queries would be to find all the rows for one user or all the rows for one user on one site. How does this translate into a "map" in HBase where there is no "row key" AND the same (SiteID,Page) may appear many times. My first thought is that UserID is a row key, but I still don't understand "column families" and the other terminology well enough to understand how to setup the table to hold this data where the one UserID can have many (SiteID,Page,Date) "rows". Any direction is appreciated!
