  I have installed the vidalia by following these instructions everything went as they mentioned. When I started vidalia it gave me the error: Vidalia was unable to start Tor. Check your settings to ensure the correct name and location of your Tor executable is specified. • Using modproxy to get around China's Great Firewall

  I'm using WIX service and I like it very much. However, one big problem is that some of my colleagues are in China but their IP is blocked. I'm wondering if modproxy can help me. I would like to setup a clean server (not blocked by the stupid Chinese government). Pointed the DNS cname to it and have modproxy get the page in background and send the page to viewers in China. Will it work? If yes, can anyone post any examples? Thanks a million

• Serve web application error messages from Http server [closed]

  I have nginx as a http server with tomcat as a backend (using proxy_pass). It works great but I want to define my own error pages (404, 500, etc.) and that they are served by nginx and not tomcat. For example I have the following resource: https://domain.com/resource which doesn't exist. If I [GET] that URL then I get a Not Found message from Tomcat and not from nginx. What I want is that every time Tomcat responds with a 404 (or any other error message) nginx sends itself a message to the user: some html file accessible by nginx. The way I have my nginx server configured is very easy, just: location / { proxy_pass http://localhost:8080/<webapp-name>/; } And I've configured port 8080, which is tomcat, as not accessible from outside this machine. I don't think that using different location directives in nginx configuration will work, because there are some resources that depend on the URL: https://domain.com/customer/<non-existent-customer-name>/[GET] Will always return 404 (or any other error message), while: https://domain.com/customer/<existent-customer>/[GET] Will return anything different from 404 (the customer exists). Is there any way of serving Tomcat (Application Server) error messages with Nginx (http Server)? To check the message sent by the proxy_pass directive and act upon it?

  I've been trying to follow these instructions, so that I could get the Citadel mail server to work alongside Apache, but I get an error when I try to restart Apache: Invalid command 'ProxyPass', ... I was told in the Apache docs that this is from the mod_proxy module, but apt-get install mod_proxy gives E: Couldn't find package mod_proxy, and I was unable to find it on the big list on the Apache site. What do I need to do to get the ProxyPass working in Ubuntu 10.04 TLS?

• proxychained browser unable to open files

  Ubuntu 10.10, Midori 0.3.2 browser (same problem with Epiphany 2.30.2, Chrome 11.0.686.1 dev; haven't tried with Firefox as yet) Proxychains-3.1 installed, working fine. Here is the deal: when NOT proxychained, Midori or Epiphany can download and open a file (e.g. PDFs from a Google search) in Evince without problem. But when proxychained, neither browser can open PDF files. The message is, "file xxx downloaded". Then it tries to open the file, an indication appears in the status bar, the turning wheel appears, and then nothing. Evince doesn't open. Whats going on here? In both cases (with and without proxychains) files are downloaded to the /tmp folder. They have the same file permissions and ownership. Whats different when proxychained? Why can't the files be opened and why are there no error messages or notifications. Why the silent failure? I don't want to use FF or Chrome. Chrome does not follow my GTK2 customizations and FF is just too resource heavy. Please help.

That is, does Access Time change only when package get received by the user? (we are apt-cacher for more than 6 months).

• Can't run TOR from terminal

  So... I can't run TOR from my terminal. I have tried many different things, but I couldn't make it run. Once, it didn't stop to run when I wanted to. At my other attempt I also ended up failing because when it stopped to run I couldn't connect myself to the internet. I hope you can help me here guys. To be more specific, what I mean by "can't run from terminal" is that I can't hide my IP if I'm installing a program from terminal, for instance. Or if I'm running another program that is making a connection with the internet, my IP isn't being hidden. What I want is to make TOR work for all my programs. So my IP would be hidden in any connection with the internet.

• Cloud proxying service

  I have an app that mashes up images from Bing image search, it's hosted on Heroku written in rails. The app is client side in javascript, so the mashup is done on an html5 canvas - this means though that if I fetch the images direct from the Bing server, the canvas gets dirty and I can't save it. As a quick work around, i have set up a route on my rails app that simply proxies the request to Bing and passes the result back through. Obviously this is a very poor performance solution and will eat up my dynos very quickly. Can anyone suggest a more suitable option? At the moment I'm thinking maybe Amazon EC2 with apache mod_rewrite rules would be better performing and more cost effective. Is there a cloud service (or an app I could deploy to a cloud service) that would be more appropriate for proxying requests for me so that my javascript can fetch the images without dirtying the canvas?

• Why is -[UISwitch superlayer] being called?

  I've got sort of a crazy thing going on where I have an NSProxy subclass standing in for a UISwitch. Messages sent to the proxy are forwarded to the switch. Please don't comment on whether or not this is a good design, because in context, it makes sense as an incredibly cool thing. The dealio is that when I try to add this object as an accessory view to a UITableViewCell, I get the following crash: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UISwitch superlayer]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5889740' Yes, I could just set the proxy's target as the accessory view, but then I would have to keep track of the proxy so that I could release it at the right time. So, what I really want is to be able to have the proxy retained by the table cell, and released when it is removed from the view just like a normal accessory view. So, why is -[UISwitch superlayer] (a method which does not exist) being called, and how do I save the world?

• Dns caching for sockets

  I'm connecting to some websites through socks proxy server. In my case its very good to implement dns cache, so proxy don't need to resolve website's ip address. So, I performed DNS lookup, but don't know where to supply IP address. mySocket.Connect uses proxy's ip address so it isn't right place. I tried to place it in http header GET http://11.22.33.44/index.html HTTP/1.1 - this doesn't work (even in browser) since website is on virtual hosting. It seems that Host header is right place for resolved ip address. Am I right? Will proxy resolve host name (since it's still there in GET header) or not?

• Trying to install mod_proxy in Apache-Httpd-2.2.15

  Hello, I have spent the afternoon trying to install the mod_proxy module into apache. I have tried ./configure --prefix=/opt/apache2 --enable-proxy --enable-proxy-http ./configure --prefix=/opt/apache2 --enable-module=proxy After it finishes installing, navigating to /opt/apache2/modules only shows one file: httpd.exp. It seems that the module is not being installed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• Why "Content-Length: 0" in POST requests?

  A customer sometimes sends POST requests with Content-Length: 0 when submitting a form (10 to over 40 fields). We tested it with different browsers and from different locations but couldn't reproduce the error. The customer is using Internet Explorer 7 and a proxy. We asked them to let their system administrator see into the problem from their side. Running some tests without the proxy, etc.. In the meantime (half a year later and still no answer) I'm curious if somebody else knows of similar problems with a Content-Length: 0 request. Maybe from inside some Windows network with a special proxy for big companies. Is there a known problem with Internet Explorer 7? With a proxy system? The Windows network itself? Google only showed something in the context of NTLM (and such) authentication, but we aren't using this in the web application. Maybe it's in the way the proxy operates in the customer's network with Windows logins? (I'm no Windows expert. Just guessing.) I have no further information about the infrastructure.

I saw this posting (http://geckofx.org/viewtopic.php?id=832) and I thought it might be a similar setting for the username/password, such as : Skybound.Gecko.GeckoPreferences.User["network.proxy.user"] = (user); Skybound.Gecko.GeckoPreferences.User["network.proxy.password"] = (password); But, nothing has worked so far.   We have a requirement, wherein the administrative user needs to proxy in as a certain user in an environment where several users (Role: User) are managed by an administrator (Role: Admin). e.g If we have the following users in the database (admin, user1, user2, user3), we would want the admin to proxy as 'user2' and use the system in certain scenarios. Authentication in our web application is based username / password credentials, what mechanisms are available for the admin to proxy as 'user2' when he doesn't have the password for 'user2'. How can the application track such access for audit purposes to mention that 'admin' had proxied for 'user2' and performed certain actions. I am looking for suggestions on supporting this in our j2ee (jboss seam) web application.

• Geolocation under firefox 3.6 requires Proxy Authentication?

  I am trying to share my location on geolocation enabled pages from firefox 3.6, but doesn't seem to get any kind of success or failures. When I wrote my custom js containing navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(func1,func2), the success callback isn't called at all. When I tamper the http requests on firefox, the request to https://www.google.com/loc/json returns with status: 407 [Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied. )]... Yes, my network is behind a proxy server. But the same works with Chrome. I didn't try other browsers yet.

• Subversion: svn protocol with HTTP/HTTPS proxy

  Hi all, I need to do a svn checkout,say svn checkout svn://XYZ.com/trunk. I am using the svn client from behind the proxy. I had accessed other repositries using the http protocol in past but with svn protocol,it fails with "Connection Refused", reason I think being the port not allowed by the proxy.Nonetheless, the HTTP protocol is not supported on the server. However, svn+ssh gets connected but it prompts for an account at that server which I don't have? Is there any way out other than requesting for an account? Note that I can't affect the settings of the proxy server.

• getting 502 proxy error while parsing

  Iam parsing a page and im getting response from that but after some time i.e. after some of the parsing gets done i get this error from the server - Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request GET /file.php. Reason: Error reading from remote server and after this my parsing fails. I even tried sleep() function but it didnt helped and the error still came. Are they temporarily blocking my ip or what?? What could be the reason for this and how can i parse those pages without getting this error and all ???

• .NET Web Service Proxy is adding special characters in XML

  My web service proxy seems to be adding special characters like "*" and "#" etc. within the xml nodes. My proxy created lists using arrays of objects. I am trying to create a generic list and then doing list.ToArray() to set the proxy MyProxyObject[] object. Is this the cause of the problem I am having? I plan on running fiddler on the request later but it is over SSL and I do not have access to the URL at the moment.   I have a proxy generation problem I am building my own customised XMLMembershipProvider in WCF. The code runs well in ASP.Net and am consuming the same code in WCF for silverlight, My class inherits the Membership provider hence have implemented all the MembershipProvider methods. Now, consumung this methods in WCF requires also the Initialize Method having NameValueCollection as passin parameter, which is the cause of the problem because WCF does not supporteCollection serialization. when the initialize method is marked as OperationContract, Proxy class does not get generated. I could have use Dictionary but that is impossible here bacause the base class's initialize method accepts two parameter one of which should be a NameValueCollection. If i don't mark the Initialize as OperationContract, the proxy class is generated with all the methods but i realized i still need the Initialize marked as Operation contract to start the provider. Has any one got any idea about the use of NameValueCollection in WCF and the work around this problem Thank you. Nicholas

• I can't use achiva as a proxy of my remote repository

  I want to install Achiva to manage my Maven repositories. I add a new internal repository called "public" and a new remote repository, which is my company's repository. Then I configure the proxy connector to let the repository "public" to be a proxy of the remote one. But When I enter the address "http://localhost:8084/archiva/repository/public/.../....pom" in the web brower,error occurred "Unable to fetch artifact resource". However, if I replace the remote repository with another one such as "http://repository.codehaus.org/", the proxy works. I don't know why this happens, are there something wrong with my remote repository address?
