• Should using Eval carry the same stigma as GoTo?

  It is taught in every computer science class and written in many books that programmers should not use GoTo. There is even an xkcd comic about it. My question is have we reached a point where the same thing can be said about Eval? Where GoTo is not conductive for program flow and readability, Eval is the same for debugging, and program execution, and design. Should using Eval have the same stigma as GoTo, and same consequences as in the xkcd comic?

  i went to a prestigeous software conference (as dominant in its own field as MS in general), one main speaker is a professor of computer science who has been teaching Java for 20 years. During question session, he seems never heard of Groovy or Scala.... He is from a decent University in US... That said, I believe I understand the fundamental difference between data, information, and knowledge. My understanding is that information carries both data and meaning. One thing that I'm not clear on is whether information is data. Is information considered a special kind of data, or is it something completely different?

Up until now, it's been possible to get by with any reasonable level of modularization and object oriented design.   here's a definition of marshaling from Wikipedia: In computer science, marshalling (similar to serialization) is the process of transforming the memory representation of an object to a data format suitable for storage or transmission. It is typically used when data must be moved between different parts of a computer program or from one program to another. I have always done data serialization in php via its serialize function, usually on objects or arrays. But how is wikipedia's definition of marshaling/serialization takes place in this serizalize() function?

• Blank source file. How can I decompile the .exe? [closed]

  Right after I finished my project for my Computer Science class, I hit save and the computer froze. When i came back, the cpp file wouldn't open through visual studio, I have the exe and object files. Please tell me I can get my source code back :( EDIT: the .cpp file is blank, and i wasn't prompted for recovery when starting visual studio again. I already checked /documents/visualstudio/backup, nothing is there.
