• PHP framework question

  I'm currently working on a browser-based MMO and have chosen the LAMP stack because of the extremely low cost to start with in production (versus Windows + IIS + ASP.NET/C# + SQL Server, even though I have MSDN Universal). However I will need a PHP framework for this as it's no easy task. I am not restricted by anything other than the ability to run on Linux, as I will use a dedicated cloud hosting solution (and a VMWare image for development) and can configure it as needed. In no specific order: It has to be easily scalable; this is crucial. If the game becomes a steady success it will eventually outgrow the server beyond what the host provides and would have to be moved to several load-balanced servers. It is crucial that this can be done with minimum effort. I do know this might require following strict conventions, so if you know of any for your suggested framework please explain what would be needed. It has to provide modules for all the core tasks: authentication, ACL, database access, MVC, and so on. One or two missing modules are fine, as long as they can easily be written and integrated. It should support internationalization. I think there is no excuse for any web framework not to provide means of translating the application and switching between languages without a lot of effort from the programmer. Must have very good community support and preferably commercial support as well. Yes, I do know QCodo/QCubed is so nice, but it is not mature enough for this task. Smooth AJAX support is required. Whether the framework comes with AJAX-capable widgets or has an easy way of adding AJAX is not relevant, as long as AJAX is easily doable. I plan to use jQuery + Dojo or one of them alone - not exactly sure. Auto-magically doing stuff when it improves readability and relieves a lot of effort would be especially nice if it is generally reliable and does not interfere with other requirements. This seems to be the case of CakePHP. I have read a lot of comparisons and I know it's a really hot debate. The general answer is "try and see for yourself what suits you". However, I can't say it is easy for this task and I'm calling for your experience with building applications with similar requirements. So far I'm tied up between Zend and CakePHP by the general criteria, however, all well-known frameworks offer the same functionality in some way or another with different approaches each with it's own advantages and disadvantages. Edits: I am kinda new to MVC, however, I am willing to learn it and I don't care if a framework is easier for those new to MVC. I have lots of time to learn MVC and any other architectures (or whatever they're called) you recommend. I will use Zend as a utility "framework", even though it's just a collection of libraries (some good ones though, as I have been told). Current PHP contenders are: CakePHP, Kohana, Zend alone.

  I trying to create an Axis2 arr file that has 2 package heirachies. However my service class is throwing a class not found exception when it tries to use classes in the utils package. Is it possible to do this in Axis? Any advice is very welcome. • follow up question problem with selecting a custom itemrenderer in a datagrid

  Hi there, I have posted two problems with a custom itemRenderer see this post. My primary Problem is, that it always selects a wrong line (one under the one I select). I now realized that this happens, when I save back the content of the itemRenderer to the dataProvider. If I code this part out, the dataGrid works as expected...   Only comments associated with the current page should be listed, so once again the query is modified to include the page ID. In this case, though, we also have to pass the pageid argument, which will in turn get passed to any h.url_for() calls in the paginator. from http://pylonsbook.com/en/1.1/simplesite-tutorial-part-2.html i cannot get this to work, the paginator does not pass things to the h.url_for, i followed the tutorial. i had to add pageid to the h.url_for in list.html. how do i solve? part of the code: ${h.link_to( comment.id, h.url_for( controller=u'comment', action='view', id=unicode(comment.id) ) )} but it does not work properly until i put in ${h.link_to( comment.id, h.url_for( controller=u'comment', action='view', id=unicode(comment.id), pageid = c.page.id ) )}

  In my Core Data model I have two entities: List and Patient. List has an attribute called 'name'. A List can have any number of Patients and each Patient can belong to any number of different lists. I have therefore set a relationship on List called 'patients' that has an inverse to-many relationship to Patient AND a relationship on Patient called 'lists' that has a to-many relationship to List. What I'm struggling to figure out is how to create a Predicate that will select all Patients that belong to a particular List name. How would I go about this? • Question about MySQLdb, OS X 10.5, and authentication

  I'm a noob at Python and have been having problems with MySQLdb and OS X Leopard 10.5. I have a php app that is doing db access just fine with pdo but also want to access with Python. When I use the same credentials with MySQLdb as php, I get the following error: File "build/bdist.macosx-10.5-i386/egg/MySQLdb/connections.py", line 188, in __init__ _mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (1045, "Access denied for user 'arc_db'@'localhost' (using password: YES)") The authentication piece works fine on my ubuntu server (installed via apt-get) implying that it is something specific to my OS X MySQLdb install. Looking at some postings, I thought it would be my local build of MySQLdb which seems to be problematic with OS X. But I am able to import fine: Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, Feb 6 2009, 19:02:12) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import MySQLdb >>> Also, wanting to create a positive, I am able to access and return results from a database tilted test_something (which presumably bypasses the MySQL's authtentication - not sure exactly how though). Trying to figure out a little more what is going on, I turn on logging for mysql and get the following (added my own comments): 100609 19:09:45 3 Connect Access denied for user 'arc_db'@'localhost' (using password: YES) //not worked 100609 19:10:02 4 Connect arc_db@localhost on arc_development //did work I'm not really sure what the 3 or 4 means but presumably a sucess or failue. So, I guess what would be the next step? Am I doing some obvious stupid python mistake (very likely)? Is there a better way for me to prove that this should / can be working? Is there any way to determine what MySQLdb is sending exactly in its authentication message to MySQL? thanks

But I am still suck on this one: My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); I am reading in a text file and I want to search for this text and change it (the X and Y value always follow each other in my text file): X17.8Y-1. But this text can also be X16.1Y2.3 (the values will always be different after X and Y) I want to change it to this X17.8Y-1.G54 or X(value)Y(value)G54 My RegEx statement follows but it is not working. content = Regex.Replace(content, @"(X(?:\d*\.)?\d+)*(Y(?:\d*\.)?\d+)", "$1$2G54"); Can someone please modify it for me so it works and will search for X(wildcard) Y(Wildcard) and replace it with X(value)Y(value)G54?

  I'm starting to use Role Management in my website, and I'm current following along on the tutorial from http://www.asp.net/Learn/Security/tutorial-02-vb.aspx . I'm having a problem with the asp:LoginStatus control. It is not telling me that I am currently logged in after a successful login. This can't be true because after successfully logging in, my LoggedInTemplate is shown. The username and passwords are simply stored in a array. Heres the Login.aspx page code. I do not understand what "it" refers to in the phrase 'ensure that you manually remove the catalog entry for this port when you uninstall it'. Does 'it' refer to a 'this port'? How is a port uninstalled? Mostly: When will I have to manually remove the catalog entry using the provided command? Also, what is a catalog entry? is that what appears when I type "sudo port search inkscape" ? I am kind of a MacPorts install n00b. Thanks very much for your time.

  In Linq Dynamic Query, Scott Guthrie shows an example Linq query: var query = db.Customers. Where("City == @0 and Orders.Count >= @1", "London", 10). OrderBy("CompanyName"). Select("new( CompanyName as Name, Phone)"); Notice the projection new( CompanyName as Name, Phone). If I have a class like this: public class CompanyContact { public string Name {get;set;} public string Phone {get;set;} } How could I essentially "cast" his result using the CompanyContact data type without doing a foreach on each record and dumping it in to a different data structure? To my knowledge the only .Select available is the Dymanic Query version which only takes a string and parameter list.

  Hello, i've got a SQL query which returns multiple rows, and i have : $data = array( "nom" => $row['nom'] , "prix" => $row['rapport'], "average" => "$moyenne_ge" ); which is perfect, but only if my query returns one row. i tried that : $data = array(); $data[$row['nom']]["nom"] = $row['nom'] ; ... $data[$row['nom']]['average'] = "$moyenne_ge"; in order to have : $data[brand1][nom] = brand1 $data[brand1][average] = 150$ $data[brand2][nom] = brand2 $data[brand2][average] = 20$ ... but when i do : json_encode($data) i only have the latest JSON object instead of all JSON object from my request as if my array has only one brand instead of 10.   Hello people, I'm getting crazy with a small problem here, I keep getting an error and I cant seem to figure out why, the code is supposed to change the range of a list, so if we give it a list with values (1 2 3 4) and we want to change the range in 11 to fourteen the result would be (11 12 13 14) the problem is that the last function called scale-list will give back an error saying: Debugger entered--Lisp error: (wrong-type-argument number-or-marker-p nil) anybody has a clue why? He mentions they are logarithmically spaced, but is there some sort of equation he used to do that optimally?

• Question about WinForms TrackBar control in .Net

  Does anyone know the millisecond interval, used by the framework trackbar, between calling the ValueChanged event when moving the grip with a mouse? I've implemented my own trackbar and I'd like the behaviour to be consistent with what the user expects. I've had a look in reflector but it's one of those controls where most of the implementation is not viewable. ETA: Actually, thinking about it, it's not as simple as that. For small changes, the TrackBar is raising the event for every change. However, if you make a large fast change with the grip, it will not raise the event for every step. Just wondering exactly how the framework does this? Thanks

  I'm a long-time Eclipse user and I just now decided to try IntelliJ IDEA 9 (free edition) for Scala. A couple of dumb questions: How can I tell if a file I've modified has been saved? How can I tell if I file I've saved has been checked into CVS? I feel incredibly "exposed" to some sort of imminent danger when I don't see the familiar visual cues from Eclipse that indicate a file has been saved and/or checked in. Thanks

This was my answer Create a List of all the records using linq Create a command object which would be perform moving files using foreach, invoke a delegate to move the files - use endinvoke to capture any exception and update the db accordingly I was told that command pattern and delegate did not fit the bill here - i was aksed to think and implement a more favorable GoF pattern. Not sure what they were looking for - In this day and age, do candidates keep a lot of info on head as one always has google to find any answer and come up with solution.
