• Java RMI timeout in callback

  We are using Java RMI for communication. An RMI client passes a processing request and an object with a callback method to an RMI server. The server invokes the callback when it is done with processing. The setup is similar to the one described in RMI Callbacks. Occasionally we are getting a "read time out" exception in the server upon invoking the callback method.   I'm using Django 1.2.3 and South 0.7.3. I am trying to convert my app (named core) to use Django-South. I have a custom model/field that I'm using, named ImageWithThumbsField. It's basically just the ol' django.db.models.ImageField with some attributes such as height, weight, etc. While trying to ./manage.py convert_to_auth core I receieve South's freezing errors. I have no idea why, I'm Probably missing something... After some reading, it sounds like my best option is to create one variable that contains my base sql, another that contains my criteria and a final variable that is evaluated as an expression that includes both of these. I want to end up with an SQL query that is effectively UPDATE mytable set something='bar' where something_else='foo' So my first two variables have the scope of my package and are as follows: Name: BaseSQL Data Type: String Value: UPDATE mytable set something = 'bar' where something_else = Name: MyVariable Data Type: String Value: foo My third variable has a scope of the data flow task where I want to use this SQL and is as follows: Name: SQLQuery Data Type: String Value: @[User::BaseSQL] + "'" + @[User::MyVariable] + "'" EvaluateAsExpression: True In the OLE DB Source, I then choose my connection and 'SQL command from variable' and select User::SQLQuery from the dropdown box. The Variable Value window then displays the following: @[User::BaseSQL] + "'" + @[User::MyVariable] + "'" This is as desired, and would provide the output I want from my DB. The variable name dropdown also contains User::BaseSQL and User::MyVariable so I believe that my namespaces are correct. • A good solution for displaying galleries with lytebox and php

  Hello I have thought for a while over an issue with the loading of images on a website-solution that I have programmed (For fun and the experience) The programming language used is PHP with MYSQL as the database language It also uses javascript, but not extensively I have recently realized that the engine I programmed, while it has it's smart solutions also carry a lot of flaws and redundant code. I have therefore decided to make a new one, now incorporating what I know, but didn't when I started the previous project. For the new system, there will be an option to add galleries to a site, and upload images to it. I have used the javascript image viewer Lytebox before. The screen goes dark and an image appears with a "Previous" and "next" button to view the other images. The problem is that I used groups with lytebox and the images themselves, resized as thumbs. This causes lytebox to work only when all the images have loaded. If you click a link before that, the image is shown as if you right click and choose "Show image" Information about these images is parsed from a database using a while statement with a counter that goes from 0 to sizeof() I'm thinking it probably isn't a good idea to have the images as the thumbs, even if you restrict the upload size. Likewise, adding thumbs at upload also seems like a hassle. It would be practical if the thumbs didn't show up before they were fully loaded. Has anyone got any good tips. • Wait until image loads before performing function

  I'm trying to create a simple portfolio page. I have a list of thumbs and an image. When you click on a thumb, the image will change. When a thumbnail is clicked, I'd like to have the image fade out, wait until the image is loaded, then fade back in. The problem I have right now is that some of the images are pretty big, so it fades out, then fades back in immediately, sometimes while the image is still loading. I'd like to avoid using setTimeout, since sometimes an image will load faster or slower than the time I set. Is there a way I could optimize and reduce the number of queries but have conditional statements still be as effective as below? If you click the thumbnail a second time, then it will load. Any help would be appreciated. It still works without the image preloading, so if all else fails I'll just wrap the preloading in an if !($.browser.msie){ } and call it a day.

  I'm working on a application (.NET, but not relevant) where there is large potential for resource/string duplication - most of these strings are simple like: Volume: 33 Volume: 33 (dB) Volume 33 dB Volume (dB) Command - Volume: 33 (dB) where X, Y and unit are the same. Should I define a new resource for each of the string or is it preferable to use String.Format to simplify some of these, eg.: String.Format("{0}: {1}", Resource.Volume, 33) String.Format("{0}: {1} {2}", Resource.Volume, 33, Resource.dB) Resource.Volume String.Format("{0} ({1})", 33, Resource.dB) String.Format("{0} ({1})", Resource.Volume, Resource.dB) String.Format("Command - {0}: {1} {2}", Resource.Volume, 33, Resource.dB) I would also define string formats like "{0}: {1}" in the resources so there would be a possibility of reordering words... I would not use this approach selectivly and not throughout the whole application.. And how about: String.Format("{0}: {1}", Volume, Resource.Muted_Volume) // = Volume: Muted Resource.Muted_Volume String.Format("{0}: {1} (by user {2})", Volume, Resource.Muted_Volume, "xy") // = Volume: Muted (by user xy) The advantage is cutting the number of resource by the factor of 4-5. Are there any hidden dangers of using this approach? Could someone give me an example (language) where this would not work correctly?

• jQuery - Wait until image loads before performing function

  I'm trying to create a simple portfolio page. I have a list of thumbs and an image. When you click on a thumb, the image will change. When a thumbnail is clicked, I'd like to have the image fade out, wait until the image is loaded, then fade back in. The problem I have right now is that some of the images are pretty big, so it fades out, then fades back in immediately, sometimes while the image is still loading. I'd like to avoid using setTimeout, since sometimes an image will load faster or slower than the time I set. I have a fields with the same name in both tables: events.venue (which is an ID) and venues.venue is the name of the place, say "blues bar". The tables can be joined on events.venue = venues.id.
