• How do you host multiple public facing websites on a VPS?

  We host about 30 websites using typical shared hosting plans using ASP.NET and SQL 2000/2005/2008. I am now wondering about hosting all of these websites using our own virtual private server such as http://www.crystaltech.com/vps.aspx This is clearly cheaper but comes with a lot of questions I need answers to: Is the risk of having to keep this VPS server up and running worth it? Until now, the host provider has managed the server and we have not had to worry about crashes, downtime, software patches etc. We are not server administrators, we are programmers, so this is not really our expertise. On the other hand, it may not be hard to learn. When we make a website live, we log in to a domain management control panel and change the primary and secondary name servers to point to our shared web host: Eg ns1.sharedwebhost.com and ns2.sharedwebhost.com These name servers are going to have to change when we have a VPS. I don’t understand anything about how to set this up. Is there some useful info anyone could direct me to? Or is there software we need to install to make the primary and secondary name servers work on our VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting comes with DNS management like this: What software would I need to install to create this for each site we host at a VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting also comes with a POP email interface that allows email addresses to be added easily: Is this something that can be easily set up at a VPS so clients can manage their own email addresses? Is there software we need to install to make this work?

And in main page bind data using ids in session variable.Gridview - on deleting event i'm deleting that id from session and on deleted event updating both user control using a refresh method (Country1.Refresh()) and gridview panel. But updatepanel is not getting updated and even modalpopup is also not getting refreshed. What could be wrong here? Even though update and refresh events are fired and executed, why is page not getting updated?

• Using UpdatePanels inside of a ListView

  Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anybody has run across something similar to this before. Some quick pseudo-code to get started: <UpdatePanel> <ContentTemplate> <ListView> <LayoutTemplate> <UpdatePanel> <ContentTemplate> <ItemPlaceholder /> </ContentTemplate> </UpdatePanel> </LayoutTemplate> <ItemTemplate> Some stuff goes here </ItemTemplate> </ListView> </ContentTemplate> </UpdatePanel> The main thing to take away from the above is that I have an update panel which contains a listview; and then each of the listview items is contained in its own update panel. What I'm trying to do is when one of the ListView update panels triggers a postback, I'd want to also update one of the other ListView item update panels. A practical implementation would be a quick survey, that has 3 questions. We'd only ask Question #3 if the user answered "Yes" to Question #1. When the page loads; it hides Q3 because it doesn't see "Yes" for Q1. When the user clicks "Yes" to Q1, I want to refresh the Q3 update panel so it now displays. I've got it working now by refreshing the outer UpdatePanel on postback, but this seems inefficient because I don't need to re-evaluate every item; just the ones that would be affected by the prerequisite i detailed out above. I've been grappling with setting up triggers, but i keep coming up empty mainly because I can't figure out a way to set up a trigger for the updatepanel for Q3 based off of the postback triggered by Q1. Any suggestions out there? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

  Greetings, based on the jquery ui accordion I'm using, I have added a slide toggle to my accordion list items. so what happens is I click on an li and a div slides down underneath to reveal more content. The issue I'm having is that I find myself having to create multiple id's to reference the slidetoggle. example of the div id css: #panel, #panel2, #panel3, #panel4, etc.... the Is there a way I can use the slide toggle without having to adding another number so it will slide?   I'm working on learning GWT (total newb) and have a question regarding the Visualiztion API provided by Google. However I'm trying to do this in a composite UI using UiBinder. • Why does RunDLL32 process exit early on Windows 7?

On Windows 7, the same code, WaitForSingleObject returns straight away (with a return code of 0 indicating that the object signalled the requested state). Similarly, if I take it to the command line, on XP and Vista I can run start /wait rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL modem.cpl and it does not return control to the command prompt until the Control Panel window is closed, but on Windows 7 it returns immediately. Is this a change in RunDll32? I know MS made some changes to RunDll32 in Windows 7 for UAC, and it looks from these experiments as though one of those changes might have involved spawning an additional process to display the window, and allowing the originating process to exit. The only thing that makes me think this might not be the case is that using a process explorer that shows the creation and destruction of processes, I do not see anything additional being created beyond the called rundll32 process itself. Any other way I can solve this? I just don't want the function to return until the control panel window is closed.

• How to invalidate layout of listbox from custom children

  I have a custom panel for a listbox <ItemsPanelTemplate x:Key="FloatPanelTemplate"> <Controls:FloatPanel x:Name="CardPanel" /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> The panel lays out its children using its X and Y dependency properties. This all works nicely when the FloatPanel is used by itself - I'm using FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsArrange | FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsMeasure on the dependency properties of the child items to tell the FloatPanel to redraw its layout. When I use it in a Listbox (code above) then it draws fine the first time, but when I drag the children (which modifies the item's X and Y) it is not notifying the Listbox that it needs to redraw the FloatPanel's children. I think the issue is related to the fact that each item in the bound collection is wrapped with a ListBoxItem. Hopefully I've described what i'm doing well enough that someone can tell me how to make the panel (or its children) tell it needs to do the Layout routines again. As I said it works once (initial draw) but then dragging items doesn't work (Listbox isnt aware that its children have changed and needs to relayout.) If I drag an item and then resize the window, the listbox does a layout and the items are drawn in their new locations. How do I notify the ListBox (or more importantly the FloatPanel in the ItemsPanelTemplate) that it needs to do a Layout pass?

• Why does my adorner not re-render when the element it's applied to changes?

  In a UI I'm building, I want to adorn a panel whenever one of the controls in the panel has the focus. So I handle the IsKeyboardFocusWithinChanged event, and add an adorner to the element when it gains the focus and remove the adorner when it loses focus. This seems to work OK. The problem I'm having is that the adorner isn't getting re-rendered if the bounds of the adorned element changes. For instance, in this simple case: <WrapPanel Orientation="Horizontal" IsKeyboardFocusChanged="Panel_IsKeyboardFocusChanged"> <Label>Caption</Label> <TextBox>Data</TextBox> </WrapPanel> the adorner correctly decorates the bounds of the WrapPanel when the TextBox receives the focus, but as I type in text, the TextBox expands underneath the edge of the adorner. Of course as soon as I do anything that forces the adorner to render, like ALT-TAB out of the application or give another panel the focus, it corrects itself. But how can I get it to re-render when the bounds of the adorned element change?

• Binding data to the custom DataGridView

  All, I have a customized DataGridView where I have implemented extra functionality and bounded datasource in the same custom DataGridView (Using C# and .NET). Now, I could able to use it properly by placing it on a panel control. I have added label as button on panel control to display data from datasource on to datagrid and create a binding source. Another Label which act as a button is used to update data from grid to databse. Issue: I pressed show label to display data in a dsatagridview. Modified the grid cell value and immediately pressed update label which is on same panel control. I observed that, the cursor is still in the grid cell when I press Save button. While saving, the cell value is null even though I have entered something in the presentation layer. My expected behaviour is to get the modified value while saving. Special Case: After typing something in the grid cell, if I click on somewhere else like the row below where I entered something, before I click on Save button, it is working fine. (Here, mainly I tried to remove the focus from the currently modified cell) Is there any way to bind sources before I click on save button? Please suggest me. Please feel free to ask me if you need any information. • How do I properly display all content in a JTabbedPane?

  I am nesting a JPanel inside a JTabbedPane. I am having trouble displaying all the content inside of the JTabbedPane. The outside borders of the internal content get chopped off. I am currently not using a Layout Manager for my JTabbedPane or dummy Panel because it stretches my content automatically. How do I add a JPanel inside the JTabbedPane so that I can have an even border around all the content.My attempts to create a dummy panel and setting a border for the inner panel using BorderFactory haven't worked. Is there a convention that I need to know to do this correctly? • How to draw a circle in java with a radius and points around the edge

  Hi, I'm really stuck on how to go about programming this. I need to draw a circle within a JFrame with a radius and points around the circumference. i can mathematically calculate how to find the coordinates of the point around the edge but i cant seem to be able to program the circle. I am currently using a Ellipse2D method but that doesn't seem to work and doesn't return a radius, as under my understanding, it doesn't draw the circle from the center rather from a starting coordinate using a height and width. • How to Get Specific Button pressed in a repeater when using ModalPopupExtender

  I have buttons contained within a repeater. A ModalPopupExtender is used to confirm event for each button. I create standard panels outside of the repeater and I attach each button in the repeater to these panels from inside the repeater. The problem is once the button is pressed in the popup I can't figure out how to determine which row of the repeater to edit as I can't figure out how to identify which button was pressed. • How do set up jquery to exclude classes in a function?

  I essentially only understand how to read bits of javascript and make modifications. I am using grid-slider, a script I purchased, but the code writer is mia at the moment, so hopefully someone here can help me. Basically, it's a slider and there are options to have links open like normal or to have links open in a panel on the same page. I want some links to open in a panel and others to open in the parent window. It seems to me that all that would be required to do this would be to activate the panel display function (which I've done) and then set up an exclude function to exclude certain uls or lis with a specific class from the function.   Hello, I have a window that has two layers: a static background and a foreground that contains moving objects. My idea is to draw the background just once (because it's not going to change), so I make the changing panel transparent and add it on top of the static background. Can somebody show me what's wrong? FYI I am using the javax.swing.Timer to recalculate and repaint the changing panel 24 times every second.

How can I adjust this so that I can get all panels listed in the variable allPnls to slide shut ONLY if they are already open? Is there a better way of sliding the panels shut and then having a callback to have the slideToggle work? Lloyd
