  • Using Property Builtin with GAE Datastore's Model

    I want to make attributes of GAE Model properties. The reason is for cases like to turn the value into uppercase before storing it. For a plain Python class, I would do something like: Foo(db.Model): def get_attr(self): return self.something def set_attr(self, value): self.something = value.upper() if value != None else None attr = property(get_attr, set_attr) However, GAE Datastore have their own concept of Property class, I looked into the documentation and it seems that I could override get_value_for_datastore(model_instance) to achieve my goal. Nevertheless, I don't know what model_instance is and how to extract the corresponding field from it. Is overriding GAE Property classes the right way to provides getter/setter-like functionality? If so, how to do it? Added: One potential issue of overriding get_value_for_datastore that I think of is it might not get called before the object was put into datastore. Hence getting the attribute before storing the object would yield an incorrect value.

  • replace values in form.data when form fails validation

    Hi I have a form field which requires a json object as its value when it is rendered. When the form is submitted it returns a comma seperated string of ids as its value (not a json string). however if the form does not validate i want to turn this string of ids back into a json string so it will display properly (is uses jquery to render the json object correctly). how would i do this? I was thinking of overwriting the form.clean method but when I tried to change self.data['fieldname'] I got the error 'This QueryDict instance is immutable' and when i tried to change self.cleaned_data['fieldname'] it didn't make a difference to the value of the field.   • How do I use dependencies in a makefile without calling a target?

    I'm using makefiles to convert an internal file format to an XML file which is sent to other colleagues. They would make changes to the XML file and send it back to us (Don't ask, this needs to be this way ;)). I'd like to use my makefile to update the internal files when this XML changes. So I have these rules: %.internal: $(DATAFILES) # Read changes from XML if any # Create internal representation here %.xml: %.internal # Convert to XML here Now the XML could change because of the workflow described above. But since no data files have changed, make would tell me that file.internal is up-to-date. I would like to avoid making %.internal target phony and a circular dependency on %.xml obviously doesn't work. Any other way I could force make to check for changes in the XML file and re-build %.internal?

  • Basic Custom String Class for C++

    Hey all, I'm working on building my own string class with very basic functionality. I am having difficulty understand what is going on with the basic class that I have define, and believe there is some sort of error dealing with the scope occurring. When I try to view the objects I created, all the fields are described as (obviously bad pointer). Also, if I make the data fields public or build an accessor method, the program crashes. For some reason the pointer for the object is 0xccccccccc which points to no where. How can a I fix this?     I have always used a Singleton class for a registry object in PHP. As all Singleton classes I think the main method looks like this: class registry { public static function singleton() { if( !isset( self::$instance ) ) { self::$instance = new registry(); } return self::$instance; } public function doSomething() { echo 'something'; } } So whenever I need something of the registry class I use a function like this: registry::singleton()->doSomethine(); Now I do not understand what the difference is between creating just a normal static function. Will it create a new object if I just use a normal static class. class registry { public static function doSomething() { echo 'something'; } } Now I can just use: registry::doSomethine(); Can someone explain to me what the function is of the singleton class. I really do not understand this.

  • Explain DLL Dependencies to a lay person

    This follows from a previous posting I made about lack of a clean test machine for software installations. I'm doing a bad job of explaining how DLL dependencies work and how some machines might not have the right libraries at the time of installation. The problem is that it's being viewed as a defect with the build process. I'm trying to educate the higher ups that it's not the build process per se but rather the installation process which is to blame. Here's a quote from my boss relating subcontractor work to our work to put it into perspective: I'm not a software person. All I see is that when they hand something to us it just works but when we hand something to the client there's all sorts of problems. There must be something wrong with how you're building the code. It's very easy to see how someone who is smart (scarily smart) could come to the wrong conclusion. So how would you explain the whole DLL dependency issue?

  • How can I type cast EventArgs to have a .point property in c#? [closed]

    I'm working with a double click function in c#. the function takes an object and EventArgs as it's parameters: private void gvHL7_DoubleClick(object sender, EventArgs e){ . . . } However, I want to use the .Point property, and EventArgs doesn't have that property. I know that DevExpress.XtraGrid.Views.Grid.GridMenuEventArgs does, but it's saying that's an invalid casting. What type should I cast my EventArgs instance to if I wish to access the .Point property? Edit: The double click function I'm working with is provided by devexpress for their grids.

    WPF and Silverlight have a data binding model whereby I can provide a Binding with a Path which comprises a dot-notation of property accessors down from a DataContext to a specific value inside a complex object graph (eg. MyDataContext.RootProperty.SubProperty.Thing.Value) I have a (non-UI) requirement to accept such a path expressed as a simple string, and to use reflection on an object which is (hopefully) of a type which exposes the right property getters and setters in order to read and/or write values to those properties. Before I go off and start writing the parser and reflection code, is there a handy Framework 3.5 BCL class to help with this?

    I'm building a new web application that uses Linux, Apache, Tomcat, Wicket, JPA/Hibernate, and MySQL. My primary need is Dependency Injection, which both Spring and Guice can do well. I think I need transaction support that would come with Spring and JTA but I'm not sure. The site will probably have about 20 pages and I'm not expect huge traffic. Should I use Spring or Guice?   • Tying PyQt4 QAction triggered() to local class callable doesn't seem to work. How to debug this?

    I create this object when I want to create a QAction. I then add this QAction to a menu: class ActionObject(object): def __init__(self, owner, command): action = QtGui.QAction(command.name, owner) self.action = action self.command = command action.setShortcut(command.shortcut) action.setStatusTip(command.name) QtCore.QObject.connect(action, QtCore.SIGNAL('triggered()'), self.triggered) def triggered(self): print("got triggered " + self.command.id + " " + repr(checked)) Unfortunately, when the menu item is selected, the 'triggered' function is not called. QtCore.QObject.connect() returns True. Nothing is printed on the console to indicate that anything is wrong, and no exception is thrown. How can I debug this? (or, what am I doing wrong?)

    Hi all, I am solving how to pass values from one page to another without making use of session scope managed bean. For most managed beans I would like to have only Request scope. I created a very, very simple calculator example which passes Result object resulting from actions on request bean (CalculatorRequestBean) from 5th phase as initializing value for new instance of request bean initialized in next phase lifecycle. In fact - in production environment we need to pass much more complicated data object which is not as primitive as Result defined below. What is your opinion on this solution which considers both possibilities - we stay on the same view or we navigate to the new one. But in both cases I can get to previous value stored passed using view scoped managed bean.   • A better way to do XML in Java

    There are a lot of questions that ask the best XML parser, I am more interested in what is the XML parser that is the most like Groovy for Java? I want: SomeApiDefinedObject o = parseXml( xml ); for( SomeApiDefinedObject it : o.getChildren() ) { System.out.println( it.getAttributes() ); } The most important things are that I don't want to create an object for every type of filed, I'd rather just deal with them all as strings, and that building the XML doesn't require any converters or anything, just a simple object that is already defined If you have used the Groovy XML parser, you will know what I'm talking about Alternatively, would it be better for me to just use Groovy from Java?

  • InvalidOperationException sequence contains more than one element even when only one element

    I have three tables, tblCompany table, tblParts table and a link table between them tblLinkCompanyParts. Since tblLinkCompanyParts is a link table so the columns that it has are LinkCompanyPartID(primary key), CompanyID from tblCompany table and PartID from tblParts as foreign keys. I have tied them up in the dbml file. In code if I write LinkCompanyParts.Parts (where LinkCompanyParts is an object of the tblLinkCompanyParts type) to get to the corresponding Part object I get the "InvalidOperationException: Sequence constains more than one element". I have looked at the data in the database and there is only one Parts record associated with the LinkCompanyPartID. The stack trace reads like at System.Linq.Enumerable.SingleOrDefault[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at System.Data.Linq.EntityRef`1.get_Entity() at ... I read about SingleOrDefault vs FirstOrDefault but since the link table should have a one-one mapping therefore I think SingleOrDefault should work and besides "SingleOrDefault" statement is being generated behind the scenes in the designer.cs file at the following line return this._Part.Entity; Any ideas?

    I have a Powershell script that backs up my MySQL DB's each night using mysqldump. This all works fine but I would like to extend the script to update a reporting db (db1) from the backup of the prod db (db2). I have written the following test script but it does not work. I have a feeling the problem is the reading of the sql file to the CommandText but I am not sure how to debug.     Hi all... I've a vb.net class that is invoked with a context menu extension in Internet Explorer. The code has access to the object model of the page, and reading data is not a problem. This is the code of a test funcion... it changes the status bar text (OK), prints the page html (OK), changes the html by adding a text and prints again the page html (ok, in the second popup my added text is in the html) But the Internet Explorer window doesnt't show it.     I am trying to figure out how to do a mixed-join in LINQ with specific access to 2 LINQ objects. Here is an example of how the actual TSQL query might look: SELECT * FROM [User] AS [a] INNER JOIN [GroupUser] AS [b] ON [a].[UserID] = [b].[UserID] INNER JOIN [Group] AS [c] ON [b].[GroupID] = [c].[GroupID] LEFT JOIN [GroupEntries] AS [d] ON [a].[GroupID] = [d].[GroupID] WHERE [a].[UserID] = @UserID At the end, basically what I would like is an enumerable object full of GroupEntry objects. What am interested is the last two tables/objects in this query. I will be displaying Groups as a group header, and all of the Entries underneath their group heading. If there are no entries for a group, I still want to see that group as a header without any entries. There are 2 problems that I have not been able to solve: I still seem to be getting an INNER JOIN instead of a LEFT JOIN on the last join. I am not getting any empty results, so groups without entries do not appear. I need to figure out a way so that I can fill in the default values for blank sets of entries. That is, if there is a group without an entry, I would like to have a mostly blank entry returned, except that I'd want the EntryID to be null or 0, the GroupID to be that of of the empty group that it represents, and I'd need a handle on the entry.Group object (i.e. it's parent, empty Group object). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Note: Table names and real-world representation were derived purely for this example, but their relations simplify what I'm trying to do.

  • Are there any OSGi web service / SOAP clients out there?

    I'm looking for any webservice client that can be run inside an OSGi container and connect to a simple web service using SOAP, doesn't sound so hard does it? Oh, and it has to work under Java 1.5, so the JRE jax-ws wont be present. The problem is I've tried a few solutions now, and although each solution works in standard Java using it from within OSGi doesn't. the springsource JAX-WS bundles seem to have dependency issues the CXF bundles get me as far as calling the service, but then can seem to find the stub methods in the proxy Is there anyone out there who has successfully created an OSGi webservice client?
