  I just started my database and query class on Monday. We met on Monday and just went over the syllabus, and on Wednesday the network at school was down so we couldn't even do the power point lecture. Right now I am working on my first homework assignment and I am almost finished but I am having trouble on one question. Here is is... Write a SELECT statement that returns one column from the Customers table named FullName that joins the LastName and FirstName columns. Format the columns with the last name, a comma, a space, and the first name like this: Doe, John Sort the result set by last name in ascending sequence. Return only the contacts whose last name begins with letters from M to Z. Here is what I have so far... USE md0577283 SELECT FirstName,LastName FROM Customers ORDER BY LastName,FirstName My question is how do I format is Lastname, FirstName like the professor wants and how do I only select names M-Z?   After applying what wrapping objects using math operator, I just tought it will be over. But no. And then wrap the three all in a <div class="row"> (a br after won't work out by design reasons). I thought I will going back to applying a switch, but if somebody put more elements in the array that the switch can properly wrap, the last two remaining elements are wrapped openly. Can i add the "ad" to the array in the third position? That would make things simplier, only leaving me with guessing how to wrap the first and the third, the fourth and the sixth, an so on.

• How to get java singleton object manager to return any type of object?

  I'm writing an interactive fiction game in java from scratch. I'm currently storing all of my game object references in a hashmap in a singleton called ObjectManager. ObjectManager has a function called get which takes an integer ID and returns the appropriate reference. The problem is that it returns a BaseObject when I need to return subclasses of BaseObject with more functionality. So, what I've done so far is I've added a getEntity function which returns BaseEntity (which is a subclass of BaseObject). However, when I need the function to return to an object that is a subclass of BaseEntity that has added, required functionality, I will need to make another function. I know there is a better way, but I don't know what it is. I know very little of design patterns, and I'm not sure which one to use here. • Parsing string based on initial format

  I'm trying to parse a set of lines and extract certain parts of the string based on an initial format (reading a configuration file). A little more explanation: the format can contain up to 4 parts to be formatted. This case, %S will skip the part, %a-%c will extract the part and will be treated as a string, %d as int. What I am trying to do now is to come up with some clever way to parse it. So far I came up with the following prototype. However, my pointer arithmetic still needs some work to skip/extract the parts. Ultimately each part will be stored on an array of structs.   I need to group the following list by the department value but am having trouble with the LINQ syntax. • How can I measure my (SAMP) server's bandwidth usage?

  I'm running a Solaris server to serve PHP through Apache. What tools can I use to measure the bandwidth my server is currently using? I use Google analytics to measure traffic, but as far as I know, it ignores file size. I have a rough idea of the average size of the pages I serve, and can do a back-of-the-envelope calculation of my bandwidth usage by multiplying page views (from Google) by average page size, but I'm looking for a solution that is more rigorous and exact. Also, I'm not trying to throttle anything, or implement usage caps or anything like that. I'd just like to measure the bandwidth usage, so I know what it is. An example of what I'm after is the usage meter that Slicehost provides in their admin website for their users. They tell me (for another site I run) how much bandwidth I've used each month and also divide the usage for uploading and downloading. So, it seems like this data can be measured, and I'd like to be able to do it myself. To put it simply, what is the conventional method for measuring the bandwidth usage of my server?

After rolling that number, however, I want it to roll again, but without the previously rolled number, until it has rolled all number except one, which would be the winning number. • Applying jQuery attr value to new DOM elements (result of AJAX query)

  Hello everyone, I have a div on a page whose contents is replaced by an AJAX request when the user selects an option from a select list. When the page loads, I issue a command to disable the autocomplete feature for all of the pages text input elements: //Stop that pesky browser autocomplete $('input[type=text]').attr("autocomplete", "off"); However, when new elements appear in the div after an AJAX call, this line of code does not reference them because they were not part of the original DOM (when the page was loaded). I have tried appending the autocomplete line to the end of the post function: //AJAX Post request that changes the fields in the address div for each different country $("div#address select#country").live("change", function() { $.post("<?php print($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); ?>", { country: $(this).val() }, function(data) { $('div#address').html(data); }, "text"); $('div#address input[type=text]').attr("autocomplete", "off"); }); But for some reason it does not work and the autocomplete pops up when text is entered into any of the address fields. As far as I am aware I cannot use .live() to select the input elements because changing an attribute is not classed as an event. So can anyone advise me how to modify the attributes of a newly created DOM element?

• 'For' Loop Within a 'For' Loop and Then Another?

  This has confused me quite a bit, but it's also really interesting! I want to loop through a grid of 9 elements in an array, multiply them all by 1/9. Then, I want to find the sum of those 9 elements and replace each individual element's with the value calculated as the sum. After I've done this, I want to move on to the next nine elements. To clarify, I want all 9 elements to be changed to myVal, in the code below. So far I've got the loop within a loop bit, but I don't know how to then go back and replace each of the values with the sum of all of them combined.   I have just started using geb with webdriver for automating testing. As I understand it, when I define content on a page, the page element should be looked up each time I invoke a content definition. //In the content block of SomeModule, which is part of a moduleList on the page: itemLoaded { waitFor{ !loading.displayed } } loading { $('.loading') } //in the page definition moduleItems {index -> moduleList SomeModule, $("#module-list > .item"), index} //in a test on this page def item = moduleItems(someIndex) assert item.itemLoaded So in this code, I think $('.loading') should be called repeatedly, to find the element on the page by its selector, within the context of the module's base element. Yet I sometimes get a StaleElementReference exception at this point. As far as I can tell, the element does not get removed from the page, but even if it does, that should not produce this exception unless $ is doing some caching behind the scenes, but if that were the case it would cause all sorts of other problems. Can someone help me understand what's happening here? Why is it possible to get a StaleElementReferenceException while looking up an element? A pointer to relevant documentation or geb source code would be useful as well.

• Drupal 7: How can I create a key/value field(or field group, if that's even possible)?

  Let's say I'm creating some app documentation. In creating a content type for functions, I have a text field for name, a box for a general description, and a couple other basic things. Now I need something for storing arguments to the function. Ideally, I'd like to input these as key-value pairs, or just two related fields, which can then be repeated as many times as needed for the given function. But I can't find any way to accomplish this. The closest I've gotten is an abandonded field multigroup module that says to wait for CCK3, which hasn't even produced an alpha yet as far as I can tell and whose project page makes no obvious mention of this multi-group functionality. I also checked the CCK issue queue and don't think I saw it in there, either. Is there a current viable way of doing this I'm not seeing? Viable includes "you're thinking of this the wrong way and do X instead." I've considered using a "Long text and summary" field, but that smells hackish and I don't know if I'd be setting myself up for side-effects. I'm new to Drupal.

What makes this really confusing is the fact that the same exact thing is done [successfully] in the second group of functions; __FUNC3_INDEX takes on the value of __INDEX + 1. There's no typos anywhere, as far as I can tell... what's the problem? I'm using g++ 4.8.

• Databound Label text displays old data upon save. Re-open record and data is correct?

  I have a windows forms application. I have a main form and I have a button on this form to set a "Qualified" date/time stamp. I have a Databound label control that I set the value when the user clicks the button. This date/time stamp is working as far as displaying but when you click the save button it either shows blank or the previous date/time. If you then then close the record and re-open it the new date/time value is displayed so the data is getting to the database it's just not persisting in the dataset as new data?? Not sure why the databinding isn't refreshing the value. I have noticed this behavior even if I use a textbox, same thing if I do it programatically. If I manually type in a value it persists?? • undefined method `code' for nil:NilClass message with rails and a legacy database

  I'm setting up a very simple rails 3 application to view data in a legacy MySQL database. The legacy database is mostly rails ORM compatible, except that foreign key fields are pluralized. For example, my "orders" table has a foreign key field to the "companies" table called "companies_id" (rather than "company_id"). So naturally I'm having to use the ":foreign_key" attribute of "belongs_to" to set the field name manually. I haven't used rails in a few years, but I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything right, yet I get the following error when trying to access "order.currency.code": undefined method `code' for nil:NilClass This is a very simple application so far. The only thing I've done is generate the application and a bunch of scaffolds for each of the legacy database tables. Then I've gone into some of the models to make adjustments to accommodate the above mentioned difference in database naming conventions, and added some fields to the views. That's it. No funny business. So my database tables look like this (relevant fields only): orders ------ id description invoice_number currencies_id currencies ---------- id code description My Order model looks like this: class Order < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :currency, :foreign_key=>'currencies_id' end My Currency model looks like this: class Currency < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :orders end The relevant view snippet looks like this: <% @orders.each do |order| %> <tr> <td><%= order.description %></td> <td><%= order.invoice_number %></td> <td><%= order.currency.code %></td> </tr> <% end %> I'm completely out of ideas. • Determining difference in timestamps for two values in the same MySQL table

  I am relatively new to programming in PHP, so I apologize if this is a rather simple question. I have a MySQL database table called MachineReports that contains the following values: ReportNum(primary key, auto increment), MachineID and Timestamp Here is some example data: |ReportNum | MachineID | Timestamp | |1 | AD3203 | 2012-11-18 06:32:28| |2 | AD3203 | 2012-11-19 04:00:15| |3 | BC4300 | 2012-11-19 04:00:15| What I am attempting to do is find the difference in timestamps in seconds for each machine ID by iterating over each row set. I am getting stuck on the best way to do this, however. One of the things I've considered is using a multidimensional array in php - using the $machineID as the key and then storing the timestamp inside the array the key points to. However, I'm uncertain how to do that since my query parses row by row. I have quite a few questions. 1) Is this the most efficient way to be doing this? I suspect my database table design may not be the best. 2)What would be the best way to determine the difference in timestamps for a certain machineID? Even just a pointer to a topic that would prompt me to think about this in a different way would be helpful - I'm not afraid to do research. Thanks!

• Shell halts while looping and 'transforming' values in dictionary (Python 2.7.5)

  I'm building a program that will sum digits in a given list in a recursive way. Say, if the source list has 10 elements, the second list will have 9, the third 8 and so on until the last list that will have only one element. This is done by adding the first element to the second, then the second to the third and so on. I'm stuck without feedback from the shell. It halts without throwing any errors, then in a couple of seconds the fan is spinning like crazy. I've read quite a few posts here and changed my approach, but I'm not sure that what have so far can produce the results I'm looking for.   I want to call ESHA Research nutrient REST API. I cannot seem to figure out how to call multiple nutrients using ESHA REST API. So far I am calling the following and only able to retrieve the calories, or protein, or another type of nutrient information. So I was hoping someone had experience in retrieving all the nutrient information with one call. Is this possible? This is how I call to retrieve the TWIX nutrient http://api.esha.com/analysis?apikey=xxxx&fo=urn:uuid:81d268ac-f1dc-4991-98c1-1b4d3a5006da (returns calories, please note the api key is not xxxx but instead a key generated from Esha once you sign up as developer) The return is JSON format. If I want to call fat it would be the following http://api.esha.com/analysis?apikey=xxxx&fo=urn:uuid:81d268ac-f1dc-4991-98c1-1b4d3a5006da&n=urn:uuid:589294dc-3dcc-4b64-be06-c07e7f65c4bd How can I make a call once and get a return of all the nutrients (so Fat, Calories, Carbs, Vitamins, etc..) for a particular food ID? • Check if previous clicked value is inside an array

  I have a list with different categories. All the list item are clickable. I want the user to pick between 1 and 3 items. They can toggle their choice, but maximum is alway 3. So far, so good. Where it get tricky for me, is that I have some special categories that can't be combined with any others. When a user click on one of these, all the other categories deselect and they can't add any other, (these item have only 1 category selection possible) Exemple: Let's say "Car" is a special category. If they click on Car, everything else deselect, Car is selected, and they can't select anything else. BUT they can click again on Car to deselect it, and from there the logic start over. What's missing in my code is the part in bold just above this. • Is my approach for persistent login secure ?

  I'm very much stuck with the reasonable secure approach to implement 'Remember me' feature in a login system. Here's my approach so far, Please advice me if it makes sense and is reasonably secure: Logging: User provides email and password to login (both are valid).. Get the user_id from DB Table Users by comparing provided email Generate 2 random numbers hashed strings: key1, key2 and store in cookies. In DB Table COOKIES, store key1, key2 along with user_id. To Check login: If key1 and key2 both cookies exist, validate both keys in DB Table COOKIES (if a row with key1, and key2 exists, user is logged). if cookie is valid, regenrate key2 and update it in cookie and also database. Why re-genrating key: Because if someone steals cookie and login with that cookie, it will be working only until the real user login. When the real user will login, the stolen cookie will become invalid. Right? Why do I need 2 keys: Because if i store user_id and single key in cookie and database, and the user want to remember the password on another browser, or computer, then the new key will be updated in database, so the user's cookie in earlier browser/PC will become invalid. User wont be able to remember password on more than one place. Thanks for your opinions.

• Load image blurred Android

  I'm trying to create a map for a game through an image, where each black pixel is equivalent to a wall, and yellow to flowers(1) and green grass(0) so far i had this image (50x50): http://i.imgur.com/Ydj9Cp2.png the problem here seems to be that, when i read the image on my code, it get's scaled up to 100x100, even tough i have it on the raw folder. I can't let it scale up or down because that will put noise and blur on the image and then the map won't be readable. here i have my code: (...)
