  I am very new to this programming career. I am now doing job on PHP & MySQL (joined before 6 months) and working on e-commerce project. Simultaneously I am learning JAVA also just completed Adv. Java. I can code on both. I am good at SQL, Oracle and MySQL also. My Question is Where do I set my career on PHP or JAVA? Which has more scope and future security? Or also is there any job profile which includes both, if yes then is that good to work on both? I am confused a lot on this, please help me..

• Visual C++, CMap object save to blob column

  I have a MFC CMap object, each object stores 160K~ entries of long data. I need to store it on Oracle SQL. we decided to save it as a blob. since we do not want to make additional table. we also thought about saving it as local file and point the SQL column to that file, but we rather just keep it as blob on the server and clear the table every couple of weeks. The table has a sequential key as ID, and 2 column of time. I need to add the blob column in order to store on every row that CMap. Can you recommend a guide to do so (read/write Map to blob or maybe a clob) ? Thanks.

• Ubuntu 10.10 screen goes nuts and unreadable

  Running Ubuntu 10.10 in its own partition, also have Oracle Virtualbox 4 with Windows XP. Because i previously had a problem with a dark screen when i let the laptop on and i didn't use it for a long while i had set Power settings to Never sleep, never let the Display sleep. Monitor on install set to Laptop resolution 1400 by 1050, refresh rate 60 Hz, rotation Normal. The problem was when the computer was left on and i returned after about an hour, the screen was unreadable, similar to what used to happen to graphics cards before multisync became normal. So it appears as though the graphics card was asked to use a resolution it couldn't handle and went nuts. I had to power off the system, on restart everything was fine. Thanks for any suggestions. • Is there a way to determine if a database has been altered, then to push new data to the Application

  All our (my company) currently applications pull information from that database, is their a way to get the following types of databses to either push data or push an event to allow the application to pull data. Access SQL Oracle File systems (Files and folders) The issue today is that most of our application spend a large amount of time constantly looking at databases and file system checking to see if data has changed . It would be better for the database to inform the application when data has changed. Are there tools within Visual studio to allow this or are there tools within the database / filesystem to do this? All ready asked this on stack overflow but go no answer. I've been doing some more research but I cant seem to get any further. My manager has asked to investigate it as it would mean our applications are much quicker and efficient.

  I see that Google App Engine apps run on a so-called secured sandbox JRE; that is, a JRE that Google modified and that makes changes to certain JRE types. This is how GAE prevents developers from writing apps that can do things like: Access the local file system via File Make remote JDBC calls Use JNDI Lots of other restrictions We have a similar need where we have an app that developers will be able to write plugins for. These plugins will need to utilize an API (a JAR) that we distribute with our app. We cannot afford for plugins to do certain things, particularly on the end user's file system, and need to modify the File class in a similar manner that GAE does. Long back-story short, this means we'll need to ship our app with a custom, modified JRE. My question: is this legal to do, or did Google likely pay Oracle some fee to modify/distribute their own JRE for app engine?

  I had the following repository for virtualbox in my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb ttp://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian maverick non-free Then I found out there was a new version when I opened it today (the program prompted me with a window to manually download it from Oracle's site). Then I tried sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade and got nothing. Here you have a way to add virtualbox-4.0 to your apt-get, but the problem is that it isn't updating, meaning I would have the two installed. I'm also worried if I'll have to do something like that each time it updates since that would defeat the point of apt-get. I've been using virtualbox with the apt-get update for more than a year now and this is the first time it has happened, so I was wondering if there would be a way to just update my current installation.

  I know this might be a little subjective. But I've read the other questions. A lot of answers kept on popping up like to use box2d, libgdx, andEngine, etc. So the real question is, what would be the best to start off with as a beginner. I have some experience with java code, just by reading about in the Oracle Docs. I've gone through Flash and Eclipse. When i mean gone through, i don't mean i have actually created my own game from Flash or Eclipse, but i just learn things here and there. Currently I'm reading Beginning Android for Beginners but I don't have the knowledge to implement my own Ideas into the game tutorials because of lack of experience. I'm looking for a way to learn how to program to create games for Android. While at the same time get experience from programming. I do not want to learn those drag and drop game making applications such as GameMaker.

• USB mouse freezes

  A simple Microsoft Optical mouse 1000 (USB) that runs perfectly on Windows, freezes up under Ubuntu 10.x and Fedora 1x after about 10 minutes of using the OS.Rebooting, the same problem comes up again in a few minutes. Interestingly, the problem does not occur when Ubuntu is installed in Oracle VirtualBox VM. Installing Ubuntu "as usual" (i.e. not in a VM), causes the problem to occur. Has any one here faced the same problem or have a solution for it? Maybe using a different mouse that is known to work with Ubuntu 10.x? If it helps my system is: Asus P5NSLI motherboard (nVidia nForce 570 chipset), 4 GB RAM Ubuntu 10.10 refers to "32 bit" version of Ubuntu It seems that Ubuntu has a lot of all types of freeze issues.   Looking at this page that aggregates the current NoSQL landscape, one can see that the majority of these projects are written in Java. Databases are complex systems software dealing with the file system, and so C/C++ would be a better choice than Java for this. (that's my thinking which might be flawed) Secondly, databases deal with transferring large amounts of data from disk to RAM -- which they call a working set. The JVM takes non-trivial amount of RAM for it's own purpose -- so it would be more efficient to use a platform that leaves lots of memory for data instead of hogging it for its own operations. How can you identify someone at which level based on his knowledge? I do not tend to compare languages, I do tend to know what indicate a master or a newbie in a language and its (language's) based technology. Yeah, I know there aren't on earth a language stand alone, it always come with a technology with it. Let say in Java, you can memorize all of its keyword and syntax in just few days, but to know it (I mean do something with it effectively), you must read the Oracle (Sun) javadoc many many times (I'm not mention the 3rd party product yet).

  In this article, I am going to demonstrate how you can use the XMLOAP services (referred as XOAP from here onwards) provided by weather.com to display the weather information in your website. The XOAP services are available to be used for free of charge, provided you are comply with requirements from weather.com. I am writing this article from a technical point of view. If you are planning to use weather.com XOAP services in your application, please refer to the terms and conditions from weather.com website. In order to start using the XOAP services, you need to sign up the XOAP datafeed. The signing process is simple, you simply browse the url http://www.weather.com/services/xmloap.html. The URL looks similar to the following. Click on the sign up button, you will reach the registration page. Here you need to specify the site name you need to use this feed for. The form looks similar to the following. Once you fill all the mandatory information, click on save and continue button. That’s it. The registration is over. You will receive an email that contains your partner id, license key and SDK. The SDK available in a zipped format, contains the terms of use and documentation about the services available. Other than this the SDK includes the logos and icons required to display the weather information. As per the SDK, currently there are 2 types of information available through XOAP. These services are Current Conditions for over 30,000 U.S. and over 7,900 international Location IDs Updated at least Hourly Five-Day Forecast (today + 4 additional forecast days in consecutive order beginning with tomorrow) for over 30,000 U.S. and over 7,900 international Location IDs Updated at least Three Times Daily The SDK provides detailed information about the fields included in response of each service. Additionally there is a refresh rate that you need to comply with. As per the SDK, the refresh rate means the following “Refresh Rate” shall mean the maximum frequency with which you may call the XML Feed for a given LocID requesting a data set for that LocID. During the time period in between refresh periods the data must be cached by you either in the memory on your servers or in Your Desktop Application. About the Services Weather.com will provide you with access to the XML Feed over the Internet through the hostname xoap.weather.com. The weather data from the XML feed must be requested for a specific location. So you need a location ID (LOC ID). The XML feed work with 2 types of location IDs. First one is with City Identifiers and second one is using 5 Digit US postal codes. If you do not know your location ID, don’t worry, there is a location id search service available for you to retrieve the location id from city name. Since I am a resident in the Kingdom of Bahrain, I am going to retrieve the weather information for Manama(the capital of Bahrain) . In order to get the location ID for Manama, type the following URL in your address bar. http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=manama I got the following XML output. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!-- This document is intended only for use by authorized licensees of The –> <!-- Weather Channel. In this walkthrough, I am going to capture the weather information for Manama (Location ID: BAXX0001). You need 2 applications to display weather information in your website. A Console application that retrieves data from the XMLOAP and store in the SQL Server database (or any data store as you prefer).This application will be scheduled to execute in every 25 minutes using windows task scheduler, so that we can comply with the refresh rate. A web application that display data from the SQL Server database Retrieve the Weather from XOAP I have created a console application named, Weather Service. I created a SQL server database, with the following columns. I named the table as tblweather. You are free to choose any name. Column name Description lastUpdated Datetime, this is the last time when the weather data is updated. This is the time of the service running TemparatureDateTime The date and time returned by XML feed Temparature The temperature returned by the XML feed. TemparatureUnit The unit of the temperature returned by the XML feed iconId The id of the icon to be used. Currently 48 icons from 0 to 47 are available. WeatherDescription The Weather Description Phrase returned by the feed.
