• Python: Access members of a set

  Say I have a set myset of custom objects that may be equal although their references are different (a == b and a is not b). Now if I add(a) to the set, Python correctly assumes that a in myset and b in myset even though there is only len(myset) == 1 object in the set. That is clear. But is it now possible to extract the value of a somehow out from the set, using b only? Suppose that the objects are mutable and I want to change them both, having forgotten the direct reference to a. Put differently, I am looking for the myset[b] operation, which would return exactly the member a of the set. It seems to me that the type set cannot do this (faster than iterating through all its members). If so, is there at least an effective work-around?

• multiple regionDidChangeAnimated calls - what gives?

  I have a MKMapView inside a UITableView as a custom cell (don't ask ;) - don't know if it matters really), for which I register a regionDidChangeAnimated delegate method. This method gets called three times when the UITableView is loaded - once with the actual region and then two more times with a region that is way off. In the simulator, I consistently get a region with center (+37.43997405, -97.03125000). On the device, it seems to depend on the location reported by the location manager, which initializes the map view. Why am I getting three regionDidChangeAnimated calls? And why are the center coordinates for the last two of them off? • What is equivalent to a php page setup in asp.net

  I program php, but I am trying to get into c# asp.net. In php I can make forms, custom html, etc into a seperate php file and just include it on the page that I desire. I understand asp.net has a master page which allows you to set the template for the whole website, but what If I want just a row of buttons to be on SOME pages, and not all? something separate to the master page that can be included on any page i desire? Also when its controllers is that when I use .ascx?

• How to I change the text location on my google map for map clusters in Fluster2?

  Hi, I'm using google maps to create a bunch of POI on a map. I'm using the Fluster2 library to cluster the POI together when there are too many in a certain location. This all works fine and I'm very happy but I would like to move where the fluster2 text is written so it matches my custom icon. ie: it has a marker with 5 written over it so that you know there are 5 poi under that cluster. Does anyone know how to change this or set the text to a specific location? Thanks The Net Duck

• Java: Looking for hack to deal with Windows file paths in Linux

  Say you have a large legacy ColdFusion on top of Java on Windows application. File access is done both via java.io.File and by CFFILE (which in turn also uses java.io.File), but not centralised in any way into a single file access library. Further, say you have file paths both hard-coded in the code, and also in a database. In other words, assume the file paths themselves cannot change. They could be either local or remote Windows file paths: c:\temp\file.txt \\server\share\file.txt Is there a way to run this application on Linux with minimal code changes? I'm looking for creative solutions that do not involve touching the legacy code. Some ideas: Run it on WINE. This actually works, because WINE will translate the local paths, and has a samba client for the remote paths. Is there a way to override java.io.File to perform the file path translation with custom code? In this case, I would translate the remote paths to a mount point.

• VB6 debugging- doesn't go to error handling code.

  Hi, I'm maintaining a vb6 project(ActiveX DLL). When debugging, the app run into the following function: Public Function HasValue(ByVal vValue) As Boolean On Error GoTo Err If IsMissing(vValue) Then HasValue = False ElseIf IsNull(vValue) Or Len(vValue) = 0 Then HasValue = False ElseIf isEmpty(vValue) Then HasValue = False Else HasValue = True End If Exit Function Err: If IsArray(vValue) Or IsObject(vValue) Then HasValue = True Else HasValue = False End If End Function and it stops at the line ElseIf IsNull(vValue) Or Len(vValue) = 0 Then vValue is a custom object, contains some properties(obviously, not null). Although I didn't put any break point there, the app stopped there and alerted error dialog saying that "Run-time error '438': Object doesn't support this property or method". We had error handling code but the app didn't run to error handling code. It just stopped at the line causing the error and I had to stop the application. Do you have any idea about that? • Communication between Multiple Threads in a WPF Application

  I'm creating a WPF application that uses a custom object to populate all the controls. The constructor of that object is initiated by an EventHandler that waits for an API. The problem I'm having is when I try to access any information from that object using a button for example, it returns an error saying "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it". I'm assuming this is because the EventHandler creates a new thread which doesn't allow the Main Thread to have access to it. Any ideas on how to get around this? I'm basically having the error "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it" when trying to get or set a CollectionViewSource.

• How to avoid recursion in Java SecurityManager checkConnect?

  I'm trying to take control of a Java code base that does lots of un-documented things. I'm using a custom SecurityManager to check permission requests. Specifically, my code is checking SocketPermission checks -- checkConnect. checkConnect is called when the application tries to resolve a host name to IP address and to connect to a specific IP address. The problem is that I don't know how to properly call host name resolution (InetAddress.getAddressByName) without falling into infinite recursion, because normally checkConnect is called even when I resolve the name from inside the SecurityManager.checkConnect. I have read on the web that I have to call the address resolution from a doPrivileged block, but no idea how. P.S. Is this possible without writing any policy files?

• How to dynamically load and switch the resource file in the web app (ASP.NET) without recompiling ?

  I would like to store the resource files (containing texts for labels etc.) for my web application in the database to be able to edit and create them dynamically later (probably in the UI). My idea was to store the whole resx file in an xml column and simply load it on demand - depending on the language and some other attributes of the current user when he is logging into the application or switching the context. The important thing is that the resources do not only depend on the culture info of the user but also on some context information that can be switched by user without logging off and on again (in our case called "group", not having anything to do with a group of users). Is it possible somehow to load the contents of the resources from an external source and simply switch them without web application being recompiled by the server ? I know that there are some interfaces on which I could hook up and implement a custom resources provider which reads from the database directly but if it could work somehow with the resx files it would probably make things a lot easier..

  Hello. I have a weird problem with global resources in my asp.net mvc web application. I have some resources in separate project(not a web app project). Those resources have following settings: Build action: Embedded Resource, Copy To Output Directory: Do not copy, Custom Tool: ResXFileCodeGenerator. When I change an existing value in resource file, build solution in release mode and upload neccesary dll files back to server, the previous values in resources are still shown. However, when I add a new key into resource file, the value of this key is shown properly. I do not have this problem during debugging on localhost. Thanks

I have already created custom membership provider and that works fine. How can I, in web config create such rule - for instance for all pages in ~Admin/ folder? I don't want to create on every controller's action the validation code. For now i have in my web.config the following statement: <location path="~/Admin"> <system.web> <authorization> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> </system.web> but it doesn't work.

• iPhone: InterfaceBuilder nibs disconnected from my project

  Since upgrading to XCode 3.2, InterfaceBuilder doesn't play nice. All of my image links are broken in IB but they'll show fine when I compile. When I go to the combo box to select an image for my UIImageView, it doesn't have the image files I've added to my app. I also can't create a new .nib and associate it with a class I've written. Like images, my custom viewcontrollers aren't available to pick from. I'm going to try a reinstall but I was curious if anyone's dealt with this?

  Is there a generally-accepted way to return a large list of objects using Java EE? For example, if you had a database ResultSet that had millions of objects how would you return those objects to a (remote) client application? Another example -- that is closer to what I'm actually doing -- would be to aggregate data from hundreds of sources, normalize it, and incrementally transfer it to a client system as a single "list". Since all the data cannot fit in memory, I was thinking that a combination of a stateful SessionBean and some sort of custom Iterator that called back to the server would do the trick. How have you successfully solved this problem in the past?

• Not getting image in h:graphicImage in JSF

  Hello, I have this very strange error with h:graphicImage This code works fine :- <h:graphicImage value="/Common/Images/#{item.templatePicName}"/> And this one doesn't :- <h:graphicImage alt="${app:getCommonImagePath(item.templatePicName)}" value="${app:getCommonImagePath(item.templatePicName)}" /> It only shows alt value /Common/Images/Sunset.jpg which is perfectly fine and works in 1st case. Then why doesn't it work in 2nd case? There are no problems with my images.   Hi! This question follows this: handling to onchange event of AutoCompleteTextField in wicket I'm trying to use the AutoCompleteTextField with a custom class as the generic type, and to add an AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior. What I mean is I want to have a AutoCompleteTextField<SomeClass> myAutoComplete = ...; and after that add a AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior: myAutoComplete.add(new AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior("onchange") { @Override protected void onUpdate(AjaxRequestTarget target) { System.out.println( "Value: "+getValue() ); } }); The problem is that for some reason, adding that behavior makes the form try to set the model object with a String (even though the AutoCompleteTextField has a generic type of SomeClass), causing a ClassCastException when the onchange event fires. Is there a way to use AutoCompleteTextField without it being AutoCompleteTextField<String>? I couldn't find any example. • Working with version control on a Drupal/CMS project

  I was wondering how teams that develop sites using Drupal (or any other CMS) integrate version control, subversion, git or similar, into their workflow. You'd obviously want your custom code and theme files under version control but when you use a CMS such as Drupal a lot of the work consists of configuring modules and settings all of which is stored in the database. So when you are a team of developers, how do you collaborate on a project like this? Dumping the database into a file and putting that file under version control might work I guess, but when the site is live the client is constantly adding content which makes syncing a bit problematic. I'd love to know how others are doing this.

  I know you can bind in the code-behind, but I don't quite understand how it works if you want to declare it within the controls tag. This is for a custom collection. I thought it was just Datasource="<%# MyCollection %" Where MyCollection is an exposed property of the class in the code behind? MyCollection{ get{ return _MyCollection;}} Something like that. But it doesn't seem to work that way, so can I not bind this way, or am I missing something?

  I have the following class structure for custom UITableViewCells: NumericEntryCell - Contains method for controlling max value that can be entered into a textbox. SliderCell - inherits from NEC and contains methods for handling slider-control of textbox value TextOnlyCell - just contains a textbox CellA - inherits from SliderCell and has a max value of 28 CellB - inherits from TextOnlyCell and has a max value of 150. I want NumericEntryCell to contain a definition for a property that contains the maxValue. I want to be able to set a value for this in the initialize method of a child class (CellA or CellB). Currently I have an int maxValue declared in the interface of NEC. I declare a property for this with @property int maxValue and @synthesize it within the .m file. However, attempting to modify this property's value from CellA or CellB's initialize method has no effect - when I hit a breakpoint in the NEC method that uses this value, its value is always zero. How can I get this to work?

  This is more of a design question I suppose. My company offers a web service to our client that spits data out in a custom xml format. I'd like to build a java library we can offer so our customers can just feed it the url and we will turn it into a set of POJOs built from the response. I can obviously just create a library that will do some simple xml parsing and building of the POJOs but I'm looking to build something a bit more robust. My brain is pulling me in a million directions, wondering if anyone has some pointers or some code to poke at. Was thinking about adding an Abdera extension, but it's not really a syndication format that fits the Abdera model. And most of the popular service libraries (twitter, facebook) all rely on standards format parsers, of which our format isn't.

  I have been reviewing model binding with collections, specifically going through this article http://weblogs.asp.net/nmarun/archive/2010/03/13/asp-net-mvc-2-model-binding-for-a-collection.aspx However, the model I would like to use in my code does not implement collections using generic lists. Instead it uses its own collection classes, which inherit from a custom generic collection base class, the declaration of which is public abstract class CollectionBase<T> : IEnumerable<T> The collections in my POSTed action method are all non-null, but contain no elements. Can anyone advise?
