• Error 0x80073cf9 when installing or updating apps from windows store

  On my Windows 8 desktop I keep getting error 0x80073cf9 when I try to install or update an app from the windows store. In the installings apps pane it just says "This app wasn't installed -- view details" and when I select that it says "Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x80073cf9" I am using the built-in windows firewall and antivirus. And my laptop is able to install updates when it is on the same network. • Including email, IMs, configs, etc. in documentation or notes

  The shop I work in is pretty laid-back. We're on a documentation kick, only because historically we've been very bad with it. We do a lot of our brainstorming in face-to-face meetings, and also do a lot of communication via IM in addition to email. While I'm usually pretty good about documentation and keeping copious lab notes, I just finished a build of a host and spent hours searching through IMs, emails, files on my workstation, etc. to pull out anything I missed in my lab notes, which formed a large amount of the basis for the internal documentation. Does anyone have any thoughts on, aside from manually saving things to a project directory, managing various data sources (especially email and IM) and tracking them on project basis? Ideally, I'd like an easy way to put copies of emails, IM logs, etc. into a project-specific directory on my workstation and then just have a cron job that syncs that up with a shared folder. This isn't really a candidate for anything more advanced, as the bulk of the data will be copies of configs, code, etc. Here are the big restrictions: Email is via a centralized Zimbra install, so nothing can happen server-side. My workstation is Linux. Aside from writing Pidgin and Thunderbird plugins that let me tag chats and emails as belonging to a project, and then copy them to the appropriate place... any thoughts? • Why java -version returning a different version than the one defined in JAVA_HOME?

  I am trying to set JAVA_HOME in Ubuntu OS. I have copied jdk 1.7 in /usr/lib/jvm and set JAVA_HOME in /etc/profile file. • Is it possible to add/register an MIB for the Windows built-in SNMP service?

  I need to build monitoring into an existing .NET application. I will use SNMP to send the application's status to the Windows SNMP service. I have used a .NET library to create the SNMP SET request according to the MIB that I have been provided with, and with the correct community. My code now sends multiple 'variables' in a SET request, for example: Id: ".1.3.6.1.4.1.43607.1.1.1.1.1" (ObjectIdentifier) Data: 42 (Integer32) On my machine I have enabled the SNMP service, configured a community with READ/WRITE permissions, and added localhost to the list of hosts to accept requests from. When I send the SET request I get a response, but it has error status 17 which, according to MSDN means SNMP_ERRORSTATUS_NOTWRITABLE. The response also has error index set to 8, which is the number of variables I send. If I send 7 variables, the error index is set to 7. I think the problem is that the Windows SNMP service is preconfigured to only accept SET requests for a fixed set of MIBs. How can I get the Windows SNMP service to 'accept' my custom MIB SET request? Edit: I downloaded and installed the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit and tried to 'compile' the MIB file with mibcc.exe ("SNMP MIB Compiler") but I have not been able to compile any MIB files (even the most basic ones like SNMPv2-SMI.mib).

• Can't seem to get chassis fans running

  I've got a ASUS ROG Maximus V Extreme and I'm trying to connect my fans to the chassis fan pins to get them running according to the motherboard. I know for sure that my fans work, as when I test them with my Molex connector, they all happily power on. Here's two of my chassis fans connectors (there are 3-4): Here's the connector that came with either my motherboard or the PSU, can't remember :) I've never seen one of these strange cables before. All I know is that if I plug in the 4-pin mobo connector to either of these fan plugs, fans don't come on and don't show up in the BIOS. (Motherboard has a crazy awesome UEFI BIOS and shows you if it sees the fans.) If I try plugging the 4-pin connection into the mobo and the other side into the PSU, I can't POST. If I plug the PSU connector in without the mobo connector, fans come on. What could I be doing wrong here? Is it a problem with the cable I'm using? Is there something I may have missed in the build?

• Add single sign-on into existing web app

  Apologies if this isn't the best site, I've search for an answer but can't find anything quite right. I don't actually now the correct terminology I should be using here, so any pointers will be appreciated. I have a web application that accessed by many different users across different organisations. Access is provided by each user having a unique username/password which is stored in SQL (database fields are customerID, userID, username). Some organisations are now asking if we can change this to allow "Active Directory single sign-on" so that users don't need to remember yet another set of login details. From research I can see how this is achieved using OpenAuth and Google (etc), but I know hardly anything about AD and can't find much information on this (again I'm sure it helps when you know the terminology). Is this request even possible to achieve, given that most users will be from different (and unrelated) organisations? I saw on a Microsoft Build video not long ago that there is some kind of replication service for AD to allow Cloud authentication. Is this what I should be aiming for?

• Looking for Remote Control that works with everything (even Windows 7 Media Center)

  Using my Google-Fu, it seems that the most basic of things one gets with any DVR is the remote control. Had I known it would be difficult just to get a consumer IR receiver for Windows 7 I may not have bothered to build an HTPC. But too late, I already have the HTPC ready to go (minus the CETON card...) So I'm moving away from TiVo, I hate paying the monthly fees and my box is ancient. I'm looking for these solutions to my HTCP setup...I want to: Switch audio from HDMI to SPDIF via the remote control (i.e., switch from TV to Receiver) (as a side note, the built-in audio on the mobo has software to do this). Pressing the volume button on the remote will always change the TV's volume (or the Receiver's if possible) and NOT the PC's volume. The remote/receiver works well around 25 feet. Bonus if the IR Receiver can work with my existing TiVo remote (or other remotes laying around the house) I read a review of the Bluetooth TiVo remote...it sounds promising...but I'm not sure if it is great for Windows 7 HTPC?

  Model: QNAP TS-410 Turbo NAS Firmware version: 3.2.5 Build 0409T Issue: Each day, users connect to share folders on the NAS system and have read/write permissions for the share folders to which they need access. However, it often asks them for their log-in details and - when provided with right (or wrong) credentials for a user with read/write permissions - it denies them access. • How to handle sh: fetch: command not found

  Okay, I'm a noobie. I know how to build and compose a website, but I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to servers and server commands, etc. I've recently had a problem with all of my sites on our servers going down all at once and then I have to go in and reboot the server for them to come up again. At first this was annoying, but now it is becoming agonizing as it now takes 3-4 reboots for the websites to come back up. I contacted support for my hosting, but they are not being very helpful. They just keep telling me what the issue might be and basically telling me that I'm going to have to look into it and figure it out, which really isn't possible since I know nothing. Anyway, here are the things they said were possible reasons: They said I have "strange logs" in my Apache webserver log, error: sh: fetch: command not found. My php.ini memory limit is: 256M which is very high. It should be 32M or 64M. Server is reaching Max Clients, meaning we have more than 150 visitors at a time. (They supposedly "fixed" this, but the sites/server are still going down) I have some Wordpress sites with plugins getting errors like: PHP Warning: pack(): Type H: illegal hex digit G in... PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array in... PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in... PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function file_exists() in... PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' I know that's a lot, but I really am at wits end and have no idea what to do now. If anyone could maybe give me some advice or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! • How does the Windows RENAME command interpret wildcards?

  How does the Windows RENAME (REN) command interpret wildcards? The built in HELP facility is of no help - it doesn't address wildcards at all. The Microsoft technet XP online help isn't much better. Here is all it has to say regarding wildcards: "You can use wildcards (* and ?) in either file name parameter. If you use wildcards in filename2, the characters represented by the wildcards will be identical to the corresponding characters in filename1." Not much help - there are many ways that statement can be interpretted. I've managed to successfully use wildcards in the filename2 parameter on some occasions, but it has always been trial and error. I haven't been able to anticipate what works and what doesn't. Frequently I've had to resort to writing a small batch script with a FOR loop that parses each name so that I can build each new name as needed. Not very convenient. If I knew the rules for how wildcards are processed then I figure I could use the RENAME command more effectively without having to resort to batch as often. Of course knowing the rules would also benefit batch development. (Yes - this is a case where I am posting a paired question and answer. I got tired of not knowing the rules and decided to experiment on my own. I figure many others may be interested in what I discovered)

• No video signal at boot with custom built computer

  After booting my custom built computer, neither the VGA nor the HDMI methods from the video card seem to emit any signal to the display. I have tested both a regular VGA screen and a modern HDMI screen. Both did not receive signal. Below are the specifications from my computer build: Intel Core i5 3350P ASRock B75 Pro 3-M Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST1000 DM003 1000GB Corsair Vengeance LP CML 8GX 3M2 A1600 CGB Blue (2 cards) Cooler Master B Series B600 Club 3D Radeon HD7870 XT Jokercard Samsung SH-224 BB Black Sharkoon T28 Case The motherboard does not emit any beeps on startup. The CD tray opens properly and all fans spin. All cables are properly connected. All components are new and no damage was found on any of the components. The fans on the GPU spin aswell. The VGA test we did was by using the onboard graphics from the Intel i5, but this gave no result. The HDMI test was from the GPU which did not emit any signal either. We have not been able to test out the DVI, could this be important to test, even though all the other methods did not work? Thank you for your time and hopefully reply.

• Visual Studio 2010 won't compile/create new projects

  My Visual Studio 2010 Professional with SP1 installed won't compile anymore. The shown error is: TRACKER : error TRK0005: Failed to locate: "CL.exe". The system cannot find the file specified. Strangely it is also not possible anymore to create new projects - the wizard appears but just restarts when I press create. As I found out the paths for Visual Studio are now built from settings in the registry. Namely HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio. Comparing a colleagues installation with mine revealed no different settings. So this is how the Property Pages/Configuration Properties/VC++ Directories look like: Executable Directories: $(ExecutablePath) Include Directories: $(IncludePath) Reference Directories: $(ReferencePath) Library Directories: $(LibraryPath) Source Directories: $(SourcePath) Exclude Directories: $(ExcludePath) From the Visual Studio 2010 Command Prompt, cl.exe is found. I can only guess that this behavior was caused by a reinstallation of Studio a couple of months ago (to a different folder). As we use an external build-script for our main project there is a good chance that it is broken since then. Any hints?

• VMware ESXi 4.1 snapshot of server 2008R2 machine generates 2 indentical snapshots

  I have 2 VMs that are failing to get veeam backups, and it appears that the culprit is vmware snapshots. We are running Vsphere ESXi 4.1 build 320092, we have multiple server 2008R2 machines that take snapshots fine, but when with these two VMs when I take a snapshot I get 2 identical snapshots a few seconds apart. The snapshot manager only shows 1 snapshot, but there are 2 files 1 number off, that are identical sizes. There is only one disk on each VM, so that isn't the problem. Has anyone seen this behavior before and know how to fix it? • Authenticate domain-user credentials on unjoined virtual machine?

  Hi all, This question may sound silly, and perhaps a bit insane, but--is there any way to run a process on a machine not joined to a domain using credentials from a user in that domain? In my case, I'm running virtual machines installed with release binaries from our build process, as well as Visual Studio. Visual Studio is there to debug our release binaries, however it's being executed with vm-local user credentials. This means that it can't authenticate to our TFS deployment when executing "tf.exe view" to utilize our Source Server for debugging. Team Explorer manages to authenticate to TFS using a UI prompt, however I suspect that it's because we supply it with the TFS deployment's URI, and it's designed to display a prompt to facilitate workgroup scenarios; i.e. it's not like we're getting it for free. My instincts tell me the only way to authenticate on this vm is to join it or somehow form a one-way trust or something, but is there an easier way? For automation we're going to want to script this eventually, but I'm first surveying the feasibility of the thing.

• Connect to Apache times out randomly

  We are trying to set up an Apache server on a remote machine, but we experience strange behaviour. Checking with telnet remote.machine 80, one of these things happen randomly: Connect and serve content normally (no delay) Connect after a long pause Connect normally, then time out without response Timeout on connect Once connected, the request seems to be processed normally. These things do not occur if I connect from that machine directly to localhost 80. The Apache is dedicated, as is the server it runs on (runs only this one application, no-one else is using it for anything else). I am not an administrator of the remote site, and I do not know the network architecture over there, but apparently it's firewalled: (HTTP port is open, SSH port is IP-restricted, most others are closed). If there was any one pattern, I might have some ideas, but this variety of symptoms baffles me. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? • debugging connection to mysql from python script using MySQLdb

  I am a python newbie and have a python 2.5 script that is using MySQLdb to connect on OS X 10.5.8. I haven't been able to succesfully connect to the database of interest with this. However, I am able to connect using php's mysqli and also via the mysql cli interface. I get the error: File "build/bdist.macosx-10.5-i386/egg/MySQLdb/connections.py", line 188, in __init__ _mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (1045, "Access denied for user 'arc_development'@'localhost' (using password: YES)") On my linux box which has the same mysql perms, the script works fine logging in. On my OS X laptop, I am able to create a database named test_python which bypasses mysql authentication scheme. This makes me think that issues like 32bit / 64bit incompatabilities aren't occuring. If I turn on the query log, I get access denied: 100610 20:56:55 4 Connect Access denied for user 'arc_development'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I'm a little bit at a loss to what to do next. Is there any way I can specify in the general log or binary log to get the actual password set on the connection string? How about writing out from connections.py file the value (although not sure how I'd do that)? thanks

• How do I format this regex so it will work in fail2ban?

  I've just installed fail2ban on my CentOS server in response to an SSH brute force attempt. The default regular expressions in fail2ban's sshd.conf file do not match any entries in audit.log, which is where SSH seems to be logging all connection attempts, so I am trying to add an expression that will match. The string I am trying to match is as follows: type=USER_LOGIN msg=audit(1333630430.185:503332): user pid=30230 uid=0 auid=500 subj=user_u:system_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='acct="root": exe="/usr /sbin/sshd" (hostname=?, addr=<HOST IP>, terminal=sshd res=failed)' The regular expression I am attempting to use is: ^.*addr=<HOST>, terminal=sshd res=failed.*$ I've used regextester.com and regexr to try to build the regex. The testers give me a match for this regex:^.*addr=\d{1,3}\.\d{1,3}\.\d{1,3}\.\d{1,3}, terminal=sshd res=failed.*$ but fail2ban-regex complains if I don't use the <HOST> tag in the regex. However, using ^.*addr=<HOST>, terminal=sshd res=failed.*$ gives me 0 matches. At this point, I am totally stuck and I would greatly appreciate any assistance. What am I doing wrong in the regex I am trying to use?

• Getting prompted for password accessing page through script even when client and server are in same

  I'm trying to pull up an internal webpage in automated fashion using the methods in 'Internetexplorer.Application' using vbscript. But I'm getting prompted for password, although the client and the server both are in the same domain. Predictably when I manually try to access the web page, I don't have any problem. Only when I try using cscript.exe or iexplore.exe, I get prompted. I'm trying to automate some of the smoke test we do after a new build is deployed. But this password prompt is getting in the way. Following are the system specs Client machine - IE 7.0, OS is Windows server 2003 Server machine - Windows Server 2008 Both are in the same domain. So far I've unsuccessfully tried following to automate the password input system.diagnostics.process.start var WinHttpReq = new ActiveXObject("WinHttp.WinHttpRequest.5.1"); WinHttpReq.Open("GET", "http://website", false); WinHttpReq.SetCredentials("username", "password", 0); Nothing seems to work I checked in IIS. we have only anonymous and forms authentication enabled Is there any configuration setting in the client machine that can be tweaked to bypass this, although I'd hate to do it since you step on the toes of twenty people trying to do that. Preferable way would be to programmatically input it if its possible. Also, if you can suggest a more appropriate forum, that'd be great too. Please help.

• Unable to get ejabberd prebind to work

  I'm trying to get the prebind of BOSH sessions to work. I want to be able to authenticate a user in my CMS and then log him in when he accesses the chat, for this I found https://github.com/smokeclouds/http_prebind, it all works find and I was able to compile it with the following steps: rake configure sed -i 's/AUTH_USER/a_user/g' src/http_prebind.erl sed -i 's/AUTH_PASSWORD/a_password/g' src/http_prebind.erl sed -i 's/EJABBERD_DOMAIN/jabber.my.tld/g' src/http_prebind.erl rake build rake install And then adding the http request bindings to the configuration: {5280, ejabberd_http, [ {request_handlers, [ {["http-prebind"], http_prebind} ]}, %%captcha, http_bind, http_poll, http_prebind, web_admin ]} ]}. As far as I understand it I should now be able to simply request a new session like this: curl -u a_user:a_password http://jabber.my.tld:5280/http-prebind/some_user But no matter what I always get Unauthorized as response. Any idea about this one? PS: I also tried Mod-Http-Pre-Bind, but as it does not require a password I would prefer to use http_prebind. • Cannot Install Phusion Passenger 3.0.13 with Nginx 1.2.1

  I installed gem Passenger which installed 3.0.13. Then I executed passenger-install-nginx-module which is what the Nginx instructions on http://www.modrails.com said to do. It installs the latest stable version which is 1.2.1 according to the Nginx official wiki page. I said to install Nginx to /usr/local/nginx (which is the default if you go to the nginx wiki website). I get the following errors: Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: "_pcre_free_study", referenced from: _ngx_pcre_free_studies in ngx_regex.o ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [objs/nginx] Error 1 make: *** [build] Error 2 -------------------------------------------- It looks like something went wrong Please read our Users guide for troubleshooting tips: /Users/server1/.rvm/gems/[email protected]/gems/passenger-3.0.13/doc/Users guide Nginx.html If that doesn't help, please use our support facilities at: http://www.modrails.com/ We'll do our best to help you. • PHP 5.4.9 Mysqli issue

  On Ubuntu 12.04 server I had PHP 5.4.9 installed from the source: ./configure --prefix=/etc/php --with-apxs2=/etc/apache2/bin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/etc/php --with-config-file-scan-dir=/etc/php/conf.d --with-libxml-dir=/usr/local/libxml2 --with-xsl=/usr/local/libxslt --with-mysql --with-zlib --with-pdo-mysql --enable-calendar --with-gd --with-iconv-dir --enable-mbstring --enable-soap --enable-sockets --enable-zip --with-curl --with-openssl --with-kerberos --with-tidy' Then, using apt-get, I had mysql server and phpMyAdmin installed. Unfortunatelly phpMyAdmin keep saying that 'mysqli' and 'mcrypt' not installed. php -m | grep mysqli just confirms it. So I tried to install mysqli with "apt-get install php5-mysqli", but just got message to do it by means of "php5-mysqlnd" or "php5-mysql". Even though they are already installed (according to phpinfo()) I tried - doesn't work. However, in php.ini, there's mysqli staff like "extension=php_mysqli.dll", but no "extension=mysqli.so". And block [MySQLi] with some uncommented settings also present. Since this is my first attempt to build php from source I reckon I did some silly mistake. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• How to configure a Linux kernel based on the modules currently in use?

  Hello, I'm willing to build a minimal kernel with only the needed things for my machine; so I started by compiling the kernel from the ground up, using the default configuration and adding things that I know for sure I have (i.e.: Ethernet card, WiFi card, ...). But there are several other things not so easy to know about (i.e.: the watchdog timer) so I came across AutoKernConf which supposedly detects the hardware of the machine and generates a kernel configuration file with the settings for the found devices. The problem is it contained several settings repeated and even some which I don't have (I'm using a Dell laptop and one of the things it "found" was something of a Toshiba one). So I ended up building a kernel with the configuration that came out of the make allmodconfig command, which is a kernel with most of the things compiled as modules. Booting into that kernel and running lsmod I can see all of the kernel modules in use (the ones really needed) and I would like to know if there is a tool or some way for me to parse that list and convert it to the corresponding kernel configuration file. Or how to map each one with the appropriate options in the kernel so that I can manually set them. Thank you very much for your time.

• Create a wifi hotspot in a place where an authentication is required

  I live in a residence where Internet is provided via cable. Once the computer is connected to the cable, launching a browser will trigger an authentication, I have a username and password to enter, then the internet will be connected. With a gateway (e.g. Wireless Cable Voice Gateway Model CBVG834G) and 2 cables, two PCs can connect to the Internet with my account at the same time. Now the question is, I don't like the cable, and would like to create a wifi hotspot. It seems realizable with the same gateway. According to the instruction on page 2-4 of the manual: Enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address field of your Internet browser. Log in to the gateway with either of the default user names, MSO or admin... However, while connecting to the Internet successfully via cable and the gateway (e.g. google works), opening 192.168.0.1 oddly gives me an error on the browser: Does anyone know what happened? Is it due to the authentication required by my residence? Is there any other way to build a hotspot of wifi? PS: My system is MAC OS

• (help help!!!) Easy_install the wrong version of python modules (Mac OS)

  I installed Python 2.7 in my mac. When typing "python" in terminal, it shows: Ma-Xiaolongs-MacBook-Pro-2:~ MaXiaolong$ python Python 2.7 (r27:82508, Jul 3 2010, 20:17:05) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5493)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. The Python version is correct here. But when I try to easy_install some modules. The system will install the modules with python version 2.6 which are not able be imported to Python 2.7. And of course I can not do the functions I need in my code. • Multi monitor setup with a tv as well?

  I have always had a dual monitor setup for my pc's for years now. I am now in the market to build a new PC and get some new stuff. I need some help or advice on how to run 3 monitors WITH a 4th display which will be a lcd/plasma tv. So I am thinking I can get 2 video cards and that will give me all the hookups to run 3 monitors instead of 2. I will mount all 3 monitors in a row side by side and above them on the wall I would like to mount a larger 30-40+ inch lcd or plasma tv. I would then like to hook up my atelite/cable to this tv just as I would normally hook up a tv but I would like to also be able to have an option to view my PC o this tv as well. I know that is possible but would it be possible to view my PC on that tv and also still view my 3 other monitors and have the TV be a 4th display, where I could dock a different app/window in windows in all 4 displays (3 monitors + tv) ?? Please tell me any tips/advice on how to do this including what cables/software if any/converters/ you name it. Thanks for any help
