• Agile PLM on Developing Agile PLM: Software Lifecycle Management

  Change is constant.  That saying couldn’t be truer when applied to software development.   And with all that change comes extensive product complexity.  How do you manage it all?  As software developers ourselves, we can certainly empathize with the challenge. On April 3, 2012 Stephen Van Lare, VP of PLM Product Development, hosted a webcast to share how Oracle uses Agile to develop Agile – a PLM solution for managing a PLM solution!   Stephen passionately shared his unique insight based on 10 years of using Agile PLM to manage the development process, as well as customer use cases.  He shared our time-proven view of the software’s relationship to the product record, while pointing out that PLM is not source control.  He began with the challenges of software development, which boiled down to the deduction that “despite many great tools in the software development industry, it takes a lot more than good source control, more than good bug tracking, to get to an on-time, on-budget and quality release in your marketplace.   It requires defining the right things you want to do, managing the scope, managing your schedule, and, most importantly, managing the change to all those things over the lifecycle of the process. And this is the definition of PLM.”   Stephen then defined the relationship of PLM to the software development process by detailing the two main use cases –  Product Lifecycle and Mechatronics – which can be used simultaneously and in fact are already used in most industries today.  The Product Lifecycle use case is used to manage artifacts and change throughout product development, while the Mechatronics use case involves the software, hardware and electrical design in the BOM.  In essence, PLM is just as relevant to software as the rest of the BOM when trying to maximize profits during any phase of the lifecycle. • WebCenter Spaces 11g - UI Customization

  When developing on top of a portal platform to support an intranet or extranet, a portion of the development time is spent adjusting the out-of-box user templates to adjust the look and feel of the platform for your organization. Generally your deployment will not need to look like anything like the sites posted on http://cssremix.com/ or http://www.webcreme.com/, but will meet business needs by adjusting basic elements like navigation, color palate and logo placement. After spending some time doing custom UI development with WebCenter Spaces 11G I have gathered a few tips that I hope can help to speed anyone's efforts to quickly "skin" a WebCenter Spaces deployment. A detailed white paper was released that outlines a technique to quickly update the UI during runtime - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/webcenter/pdf/owcs_r11120_cust_skins_runtime_wp.pdf. Customizing at "runtime" means using CSS and images to adjust the page layout and feel, which when creatively done can change the pages drastically. • Box 2d basic questions

  I am a bit new to box2d and I am developing an game with type and letters. I am using an svg font and generate the box2d bodies direct from the glyphs path definition, using the convex hull of them. I also have an decomposition routine the decomposes this hull if necessary. All this it is more or less working, except that I got some strange errors which definitely are caused by the scale factors. The problem is caused by two factors: first: the world scale of box2d, second: the the precision of curve-approximation of the glyph vectors. So through scaling down the input vertices for box2d, it happens that they become equal caused by numerical precision, what causes errors in box2d. Through scaling the my glyphs a bit up, this goes away. I also goes away if I chose a different world scale factor, but this slows down the whole animation quite much! So if my view port is about 990px * 600px and i want to animate Glyphs in box2d which should have a size from about 50px * 50px up to 300px * 300px, which scale factor of the b2world should i choose? How small should the smallest distance from on vertex to another be, while approximating the glyph vectors? Thanks for help greetings philipp EDIT:: I continued reading the docs of box2d and after rethinking of the units system, which is designed to handle object from 0.1 up to 10 meters, I calculated a scale factor of 75. So Objects 600px width will are 8 meters wide in box2d and even small objects of about 20px width will become 0.26 meters width in box2d. I will go on trying with this values, but if there is somebody out there who could give me a clever advice i would be happy!

  I have a pair of red/cyan 3D glasses and when I use them to view youtube's 3D videos or anaglyph images they dont seem to work properly. The two images are not filtered properly by each colored lens. So I guess the problem is my monitor not showing the exact colors needed for my glasses to work. Is there any way to customize/calibrate the monitor's colors for a specific pair of 3D glasses? PS: I also have green/magenta and amber/blue glasses, but the same problem happens.

• Using Completed User Stories to Estimate Future User Stories

  In Scrum/Agile, the complexity of a user story can be estimated in story points. After completing some user stories, a programmer or team of programmers can use those experiences to better estimate how much time it might take to complete a future user story. Is there a methodology for breaking down the complexity of user stories into quantifiable or quantifiable attributes? For example, User Story X requires a rich, new view in the GUI, but User Story X can perform most of its functionality using existing business logic on the server. On a scale of 1 to 10, User Story X has a complexity of 7 on the client and a complexity of 2 on the server. After User Story X is completed, someone asks how long would it take to complete User Story Y, which has a complexity of 3 on the client and 6 on the server. Looking at how long it took to complete User Story X, we can make an educated estimate on how long it might take to complete User Story Y. I can imagine some other details: The complexity of one attribute (such as complexity of client) could have sub-attributes, such as number of steps in a sequence, function points, etc. Several other attributes that could be considered as well, such as the programmer's familiarity with the system or the number of components/interfaces involved These attributes could be accumulated into some sort of user story checklist. To reiterate: is there an existing methodology for decomposing the complexity of a user story into complexity of attributes/sub-attributes, or is using completed user stories as indicators in estimating future user stories more of an informal process?

• Using Microsoft's Chart Controls In An ASP.NET Application: Serializing Chart Data

  In most usage scenarios, the data displayed in a Microsoft Chart control comes from some dynamic source, such as from a database query. The appearance of the chart can be modified dynamically, as well; past installments in this article series showed how to programmatically customize the axes, labels, and other appearance-related settings. However, it is possible to statically define the chart's data and appearance strictly through the control's declarative markup. One of the demos examined in the Getting Started article rendered a column chart with seven columns whose labels and values were defined statically in the <asp:Series> tag's <Points> collection. Given this functionality, it should come as no surprise that the Microsoft Chart Controls also support serialization. Serialization is the process of persisting the state of a control or an object to some other medium, such as to disk. Deserialization is the inverse process, and involves taking the persisted data and recreating the control or object. With just a few lines of code you can persist the appearance settings, the data, or both to a file on disk or to any stream. Likewise, it takes just a few lines of codes to reconstitute a chart from the persisted information. This article shows how to use the Microsoft Chart Control's serialization functionality by examining a demo application that allows users to create custom charts, specifying the data to plot and some appearance-related settings. • 2 Templates to one SharePoint Library, Default templates

  Ok, I'm not a script writer, otherwise I'd have this automated already. I need a quick assist in the most basic steps possible. I have a SharePoint form library using InfoPath based forms. I have a "Public" template for my customers which submits to a "Private" library, through very granulated permissions so they cannot view the library. The Private library has it's own template based on the original Public template. This way I can transition one form's information seamlessly to the new template. The new Private template would have all of the internal details that we do not want the customer to see, but also all information fron the customer-filled Public form. Is there any way to default all items opened from the Private library to use the Private Template, even though they were submitted form the Public template?

  Hi folks, i'm using Remote Desktop on Windows 7 RC1, connecting to a Windows 2008 server. Everytime i start a connection, i get the following popup window :- The certificate problem makes sense - it was created from my own server, which is not an offical certificate authority. Sure. So I need to tell my machine that any certificate that comes from my server, can u please accept. So i View the certificate and install it. I let it determine the best place to install it. eg Unfortunately, every time i connect, i still get that popup question. So i tried to manually tell where to install it. • How to enable Google Drive offline access

  Google’s latest cloud offering Google Drive provides 5GB of free storage to let you store documents, spread sheets, photos and other stuff and access them using a variety of devices – PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets. You can also set up offline access to Google Drive so that you can access files on the move even if you don’t have access to internet connection. To access Google Drive offline you need Chrome browser and here are the simple steps to be followed for setting up. Step 1:  Login to Google Drive and click the gear icon in the upper right of your window. Step 2: Select Set up Docs offline from the drop-down menu. The “Set up offline viewing of Google Docs” dialog will appear Step 3:  Authorize Google Chrome to store your Google Drive content by clicking on “Allow offline docs” and then install “Docs Chrome web app” by clicking on “Install from Chrome web store”. You’ll be taken to the Chrome web store, where you’ll need to click Install on the right-hand side of the browser window. Step 4: Once the app is installed, you’ll be taken to a Chrome page with the Google Docs app icon. Click the icon to go back to your Documents List. Google Chrome take few minutes to prepare Google Drive for offline access by downloading all the files to your local computer. Once it’s completed, you can access Google Drive files offline. To access files of Google Drive offline point your Chrome browser to drive.google.com. When offline your Google Docs stored on Google Drive are available in view only mode. You can open Google Documents, Spread sheets & Presentations and see the content but you can’t edit them.

• How best to troubleshoot a WIA issue through an IIS7 reverse proxy.

  I've got an Intranet site that uses Windows Authentication and is accessed through an IIS 7 Reverse Proxy. Using FireFox, Safari or Chrome it works fine. I'm prompted for credentials, I supply them and away I go. In IE 7/8 I get prompted for credentials but they're rejected and I eventually get a 401 not authorized error. The application server is configured for Windows Auth only and rejects basic authentication. I would be surprised if the front end proxy would accept Basic Auth so my suspicion is that it's a trust issue with my browser and IE isn't relaying the credentials however our IS Team has IE so locked down I'm unable to alter trust levels or even view the settings. How should I go about troubleshooting this problem? I'm at a loss and they've yet to respond to my support ticket.

  I started tweeting a list of “protips” (or whatever you want to call that) related to the Twitter for Windows Phone 7 application. Since I worked as integrator on this app, my tasks involved integrating design assets in all screens, and so I had an insider view on all the screens (and that is really a LOT of screens :) Seeing some comments about the app made me understand that most users out there don’t realize how rich the application is, and how many features are available. So without further ado, here we go, a list of Twitter for WP7 protips: (note: I will extend the list if I think of new stuff, and maybe add some screenshots later). Check the dark theme in the application settings! Select a tweet, menu, Translate. Search, Nearby looks for tweets near you Custom searches can be saved. They synch up with web twitter too! Multi language support, independant from OS. supports EN, FR, DE, IT, ES Multiple accounts are supported, simply define them in the Settings Even without a Twitter account, experience is super rich. Trends, Suggested, Nearby, searches etc... Select a tweet, then press Replies To to see the whole conversation Compose, menu, Hashtags. Enter a hashtag and press Add. List is saved for the next time. Select a tweet with location info (like my own). Press the location name to see all Nearby tweets Want to remove location information just for one tweet? • ScrollViewer.EnsureVisible for Windows Phone

  In my Translator By Moth app, on both the current and saved pivot pages the need arose to programmatically scroll to the bottom. In the former, case it is when a translation takes place (if the text is too long, I want to scroll to the bottom of the translation so the user can focus on that, and not their input text for translation). In the latter case it was when a new translation is saved (it is added to the bottom of the list, so scrolling is required to make it visible). On both pages a ScrollViewer is used. In my exploration of the APIs through intellisense and msdn I could not find a method that auto scrolled to the bottom. So I hacked together a solution where I added a blank textblock to the bottom of each page (within the ScrollViewer, but above the translated textblock and the saved list) and tried to make it scroll it into view from code. After searching the web I found a little algorithm that did most of what I wanted (sorry, I do not have the reference handy, but thank you whoever it was) that after minor tweaking I turned into an extension method for the ScrollViewer that is very easy to use: this.Scroller.EnsureVisible(this.BlankText); The method itself I share with you here: public static void EnsureVisible(this System.Windows.Controls.ScrollViewer scroller, System.Windows.UIElement uiElem) { System.Diagnostics.Debug.Assert(scroller != null); System.Diagnostics.Debug.Assert(uiElem != null); scroller.UpdateLayout(); double maxScrollPos = scroller.ExtentHeight - scroller.ViewportHeight; double scrollPos = scroller.VerticalOffset - scroller.TransformToVisual(uiElem).Transform(new System.Windows.Point(0, 0)).Y; if (scrollPos > maxScrollPos) scrollPos = maxScrollPos; else if (scrollPos < 0) scrollPos = 0; scroller.ScrollToVerticalOffset(scrollPos); } I am sure there are better ways, but this "worked for me" :-) Comments about this post by Daniel Moth welcome at the original blog.

• Access virtualhosts over LAN (Also in xpmode (Virtual PC))

  Hi, I am running Wamp on my computer (the host). I have set up several virtualhosts in apache and they are working fine when I access them from the same computer (host). I have installed Windows XPMode on my computer (which is running windows 7). XPMode (which uses Virtual PC) is set up to use a NAT network. The network in XPMode is working fine, and I can access the host PC via the IP address 192.168.1.5, just as I would if I was using any physical computer on the same network. I can view all the web pages at 192.168.1.5 and it's subdirectories. However, I cannot access any of the subdomains that are configured in the virtualhosts of the host computer. How can I access the subdomains? I don't think that the fact that I am using XPMode and am using a virtualized OS has anything to do with it, but I thought that it was worth mentioning.

• Problems with 2 ISCSI connections esxi 3.5

  I am running a dell poweredge 1950 with 4 nic cards. 1 is bonded to SAN #1 on 192.168.90.xx. The second SAN is on a separate network - 192.168.7.xx The network adapter can view the ip range of the san and the NIC can be pinged from 192.168.7.xx range. vswitch1 and vswitch2 are configured identically except for the ip address. The second SAN has been added to the iscsi software adapter but the SAN is never recognized. I can connect to the SAN from other machines on the local network. Is there something else that needs to be configured for the iscsi software adapter to know which vswitch to use?

  I'm sure many of my readers know Reflector, that tool to decompile the assemblies to see what it contains, maybe investigating what Microsoft has done with the base assemblies in .NET or maybe trying to understand 3rd party assemblies (or maybe just trying to recover the lost source code ;-) ) It's invaluable tool to have in your tool box. One nice scenario where it helps a lot is Sharepoint development in case you are in problems with the API. But are you aware that MS gave the product to Red Gate Software (http://www.red-gate.com) which released a Pro version of Reflector (http://www.red-gate.com/products/reflector/index.htm) a couple of months ago?   Looking for a way to display song lyrics in Windows Media Player? Today we look at a very simple method to accomplish this with Lyrics Plugin for Windows Media Player. Download and run the Lyrics Plugin install. (See download link below) When the installation is finished you’ll be prompted to run Windows Media Player. Click Yes. Begin playing your song or playlist then switch to Now Playing mode.   You should now see the full song lyrics of the currently playing track. To toggle the lyrics on and off, select Tools from the Menu in Library view, choose Plug-ins, and click Lyrics Plugin. If you don’t see the Menu bar, you can enable it by going to Organize, Layout, and Show Menu Bar.
