  I'm a little bit scared about something like this: std::map<DWORD, DWORD> tmap; tmap[0]+=1; tmap[0]+=1; tmap[0]+=1; Since DWORD's are not automatically initialized, I'm always afraid of tmap[0] being a random number that is incremented. How does the map know hot to initialize a DWORD if the runtime does not know how to do it? Is it guaranteed, that the result is always tmap[0] == 3?

• lmerTest package install failing on Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS precise 32-bit and trying to install the lmerTest package for R version 2.14.1... When I try to install from the CRAN repository or R-forge: install.packages("lmerTest") or install.packages("lmerTest", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org"), I get the error: Warning in install.packages : package ‘lmerTest’ is not available (for R version 2.14.1) So I downloaded the Package Archive File from CRAN and tried to install from this Package source: lmerTest_2.0-11.tar.gz ,but get the error: "installation of package /home/.../lmerTest_2.0-11.tar.gz’ had non-zero exit status" I had a similar problem when trying to install lme4, and using the advice from lme4 package install failing on Ubuntu 12.04 was able to download the package using "sudo apt-get install r-cran-lme4" after which it appeared in my R package list and installed fine from there. I tried a similar tactic with lmerTest "sudo apt-get install r-cran-lmerTest" but just get "Unable to locate package r-cran-lmerTest", so really don't know what to do now, bearing in mind that I'm a novice with both Ubuntu and R, any suggestions/help would be much appreciated

• Accessing the feed/entry/id field of an ATOM 1.0 feed with the ROME library

  Hi, I feel a bit stupid asking this question, but I don't know how I can access the ID field of an entry when using ROME to parse an Atom feed. ROME provides it's own meta level of feeds/items, i.e. SyndFeed and SyndEntry. Being an abstraction over RSS and ATOM they only contain elements both formats support. Thus, there is no method to get an ID of an entry. There also exist low level packages for the distinct formats, and the Atom package contains com.sun.syndication.feed.atom.Entry, which provides getId(). However, I don't know how can I convert my SyndEntry into an Entry. I have not found a way to convert it. The (outdated) tutorials show a conversion, but that's only for output though. So how can I easily access the ID field? Thanks in advance.

• Codeigniter: Combining activeRecord with manual queries?

  Hi everybody, I've though a bit about the activerecord vs. manual queries in Codeigniter. ActiveRecord is awesome when it's all about standard queries and holds development time really low. However, when there's a need to add some complexity to the queries, the ActiveRecord gets quite complicated to work with. Sub queries or complex joins gives atleast me a lot of headache. Since the current "$this-db-query" -call immediately executes the set query, it can't be combined with normal activeRecord calls. So, what can I do to combine the two methods? Thanks!

• jQuery UI sortable issue with helper Y offset value being same as scroll offset on FireFox only

  I have a problem with a jQuery UI 1.7.2 sortable list in Firefox, IE7-8 work fine. When I'm scrolled down a bit, the helper element seems to have an offset of the same height that I'm scrolled down from the mouse pointer which makes it impossible to see which item you originally started dragging. How do I fix this or work around the issue? If there is no fix what is a really good alternative drag-able plugin?   Hey, I've bene working with Objective-C for a while now, and so far I have never really needed to craft my own classes, properly. I am a bit confused with the two arguments you can give the @property(a, b) declaration in a header file. When creating outlets to Interface Builder I usually do @property(nonatomic, retain) but I have no idea what this means. I'm writing a simple class which has a set of properties which will be set from the outside, like [instance setName:@"Bla Bla Bla"]; or I guess like instance.name = @"Bla@" but I would rather the first option. • How to go to the next level integrating animations in WPF applications with Blend / VS2008?

  I have been able to create little animations with the storyline in Blend. And I have been able to copy in the isolated storylines and triggers into existing projects in visual studio to spruce them up on the edges a little bit. But after adding too many animations, they start to conflict or cancel each other out, etc., or I can make a panel slide down and slide it back up, then it no longer can slide down since it is not in its original state anymore. Does anyone have any links, video tutorials, books, resources which not only show you how to make a little animation and then leave you to figure out how to integrate numerous animations into a typical business application layout, but instead take you through the whole process of building a business application while integrating animations and WPF goodness with Blend and Visual Studio?

• Understanding the output of ldd

  I'm having a hard time understanding the output of ldd - Especially the processor identifiers. The string in question is this one: Shortest.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, from ']', not stripped I have several questions about it: What does "ELF" mean? I know that's what Linux binaries are called like (Windows Binaries are called PE Binaries, "Portable Executable" Binaries), but isn't ELF an abbreviation for something? What does LSB mean? I can't even guess it... I see the string "Intel" there, now I seriously wonder about the portability of Linux binaries, as ldd seems to expect every binary to be compiled on a intel processor... but what if it wasn't compiled on a Intel processor? Or when I attempt to run the binary on a computer that doesn't run ontop of a Intel processor? Why the ']'? My guess is it should be some sort of Linker identify, but ']' doesn't look much like a Identifier... Thanks in advance

  I have a project under which various distributed applications are placed; the whole project is under a single dll. Hence, if any issue occurs we need to re-build the whole application to run or import to our server. I am looking for the best possible way to make the build process faster and also bit worried about the size of the DLL. Is it a good way to have separate dll for all the modules or split the application in multiple projects??? Can, anyone suggest the best way or example to deal with this situation. • Have VB.Net 2010 ErrorProvider Fire on Tabbing Out of BindingSource TextBox on a WinForm

  I have a TextBox control on a Windows Form that uses a DataSource custom object as its BindingSource. I have associated an ErrorProvider with the BindingSource like so: Dim dobExample As New DOExample ExampleBS.DataSource = dobExample epExample.DataSource = ExampleBS The ErrorProvider fires if I type a blank space in the TextBox and then press Tab to move to the next control, which is correct. But it doesn't fire if I just press Tab without entering anything. I want the ErrorProvider to show the Error, even if the TextBox is empty and not just validate when there is text in the TextBox. How do I accomplish this? As an additional bit of info, when I execute the following statement: epDOContact.GetError(TextBox) an empty string is returned even though the TextBox is empty when it is required to be present.

• BigInteger or not BigInteger?

  In Java, most of the primitive types are signed (one bit is used to represent the +/-), and therefore when I am exceed the limits of this type, I can get many strange things, like negative numbers. In the BigInteger class, I have no limits and there are some helpful functions there but it is pretty depressing to convert your beautiful code to work with the BigInteger class, specially when primitive operators don't work there and you must use functions from this class. I was wondering if you had this problem, and if you have any better solution than the BigInteger class? Thank you.

• phpDocumentor alternative consuming less memory

  Okay, I'm fed up with phpDocumentator. It consumes way much more memory and time than I'm willing to give it. Does there exist some really compatible program to generate documentation for PHP code? I've tried PHPDoctor, which looks nice, but it has some missing features. I've also tried PhpDocGen, but it just bails out with some Perl errors, which I'm too lazy to study. Doxygen also does not seem to play well with our sources. PS: The documentation would be for phpMyAdmin, a little bit outdated documentation is here.

  If invoices can be voided, should they be used as quotations? I have an Invoices tables that is created from inventory associated with a Job. I could have a Quotes table as a halfway-house between inventory and invoices, but it feels like I would have duplicate data structures and logic just to handle an "Is this a quote?" bit. From a business perspective, quotes are different from invoices: a quote is sent prior to an undertaking and an invoice is sent once it is complete and payment is due, but how to represent this in my repository and model. What is an elegant way to store and manage quotes & invoices in a database?

  I've been programming in Asp.Net MVC for quite some time now and to expand a little bit beyond the .Net world I've recently began learning Python and Django. I am enjoying Django but one thing I am missing from Asp.Net MVC is the automatic routing from my urls to my controller actions. In Asp.Net MVC I can build much of my application using this single default route: routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); In Django I've found myself adding an entry to urls.py for each view that I want to expose which leads to a lot more url patterns than I've become used to in Asp.Net MVC. Is there a way to create a single url pattern in Django that will handle "[Application]/view/[params]" in a way similar to Asp.Net MVC? Perhaps at the main web site level?

  Hi All, Im wanting to organize a series of dates in the following format. As a bit of context, the dates are the dates of upcoming events that can be added by my users. The format: January 2011 date - event date - event date - event February 2011 date - event date - event date - event with all events in a given month, arranged by the date on which they occur.   I'm writing a program to generate some trippy visuals. My code paints each pixel with a random blue value which loops at 0.04 second intervals. for (y = 0; y < 5.5; y += 0.2) { for (x = 0; x < 7.5; x += 0.2) { b = rand() / ((double) RAND_MAX); setPixelColor(x,y,r,g,b); } } I'd like to do more than just make blue noise... but my maths is a bit rusty, and Google isn't helping me much today, so it would be great if you could share anything you know about making waves, patterns, gradient animations, etc or links to such material.

• NNTP & Socket - How to interrupt?

  Hi. I'm sending a message to a NNTP server in order to fetch an article's body. I don't want to wait for the answer to complete, cause I only need the first 3 lines from the body. How can I interrupt the transfer and move on to the next article? Now when I request another's article message body, I still get data from the previous one. The only way that worked for me, was to close the stream and reopen it. In my opinion this is a little bit hardcore, cause I have to login to the server every time I need a new file. Any help would be appreciated. Kind Regards.
