• How to migrate Django models from mysql to sqlite (or between any two database systems)?

  I have a Django deployment in production that uses MySQL. I would like to do further development with SQLite, so I would like to import my existing data to an SQLite database. I There is a shell script here to convert a general MySQL dump to SQLite, but it didn't work for me (apparently the general problem isn't easy). I figured doing this using the Django models must be much easier. How would you do this? Does anyone have any script to do this?

• Creating installers in .net

  I want to create a installer which would just dump few files and folders at a location specified by user. But the problem is these files are required to be picked up from a fixed source folder and then the installer is build. Also, these files may change any time and then again a new version of the installer is required to be created. I want to do this in .Net using Setup and Deployment project. I'm not sure how to do this. Do I need to create another class library project with a Setup Poject? Does anyone has any idea?

  In my deployment on JBoss 5.1.0GA with JavaEE-5 I have beans of the general form public interface Foo { void baz (); } @Stateless public class FooBean implements Foo { void baz() { // ... } } I have assumed that this is the same as if I have explicitly annotated the Foo interface with @Local. From seeing a stack trace in the code I think that it is actually using a remote interface, whereas I want all of my beans to be local. Do I need to explicitly annotate interfaces as Local or is there some default? Finding documentation on this is proving challenging so any links to relevant documentation would be greatly appreciated.

  I've never been able to find a good script or plugin for sql server Management Studio (2005 and or 2008) for a very common scripting need: specifying a few/all rows in a table and scripting their insert. You can guess my story: I've got some configuration data in my dev db and I need to script it for deployment to UAT and then production. I've found a few cludgy systems in the past, that were more trouble than they were worth. I need something free and unobtrusive. Once I find it I'll share it with the other 20 developers in my shop who are annoyed by this. Aren't we all annoyed by this by the way? What is the best, easiest, free, way to specify a few/all rows in a table and get a script their insert?

• How to set Main Inerface in xCode programatically

  I am using Apples MultipleDetailViews http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#samplecode/MultipleDetailViews/Introduction/Intro.html for template as a source for my iPad app. The template is using a splitviewController in the interface builder (MainWindow). In the iPhone/iPad Deployment info of the target, MainWindow is set as the "Main Interface". I want my app to also run on iPhone. This means I need to load a different xib when the app is run on an iPhone. I must then remove "MainWindow" from "Main Interface" because the app will crash when I load on an iPhone due to the splitViewController. The AppDeleagte of the template look like this: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { self.window = [[[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; self.window.rootViewController = self.splitViewController; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; } If I remove "Main Window" from "Main Interface", how do I then need to change the APpDelegate, or maybe I need to change the MainWindow.xib to also work for iPhone?

• Using an ActiveX object from an Outlook hosted webpage - possible?

  I'm trying to do the following: We have an outlook plugin, written in .NET (and C++). It does various things, and is manually installed on the end users machines (usually via AD deployment or similar) We are changing our search to use a webpage-based search, but from within outlook. That part is ok, however we want to communicate from the webpage to the surrounding outlook application. We can call into outlook by exposing an ActiveX object from our plugin, however we get security warnings, even if it's signed and marked as safe for scripting. Is this even possible? Has anyone done it? Anyone have a better way of doing it? We only need to pass in a small amount of data (a message id), and only from the webpage to outlook [update]: This is the error: automation server can't create object. We can get around it a bit by turning things off in IE, but thats not a good way to do it! Thanks

• Suggestions on including free database products to include in an application - SQL Server Express or

  I am working on an enterprise level product that is designed around SQL Server Express and specifically its features (views, concurrent users, stored procedures, CASE and IF statements). Though we don't use any advanced SQL Server features, the database size limit of 4GB in the Express edition may up being a limitation. A work-around is that customers can move to more full-featured versions of SQL Server. The problem is that SQL Server Express deployment is not easy, and the installer size is huge. This is a major drawback for someone looking to try our product. You don't want end-users to not buy a product because the download is huge. Does anyone have any recommendations of a database that has a smaller footprint but all the features of Express and which can be migrated to express?

• debate: Is adding third party libraries to a war a good idea?

  We have a debate going on . a. The "standard" way of assembling a web app. Create a WAR with all our app artifacts and all other components like hibernate and memcached etc are deployed in the tomcat/shared/lib area. b. Create a humongous war with everything included and nothing in tomcat/shared/lib. Pros for a - It keeps things modular and the war is small. Cons for a - dependency on shared/lib has to be managed especially by the deployment process. Pros for b - All dependencies are controlled by the build process removing any room for error. Cons for b - War is really, really big. If you are deploying over a network to a huge farm, then it might have an impact. want to see what thoughts others might have about this.

This led to another question, Which variables (if any) survive across web requests and does that change depending on deployment? (Fastcgi, Mongrel, Passenger, ...) I know that Controller instance variables aren't persisted. I know Constants are persisted (or reloaded?). But I don't know about class variables, instance variables on a class, Eigenclasses, ...

  I have been giving the task to rewrite a internal utility in .net for my work. One of program requirements the new system has is have a dll that implements a set of interfaces and have the program call the DLL. Now this dll will be changed out a lot per deployment. My question is what is the best way to do it from a development standpoint? Do I add a template DLL (one that only has the interfaces but no implementation) to the project references like I would do any other dll that I would use. • How to Best Setup a Website Project in VS.NET

  I have very little experience with setting up a website from scratch in a .NET environment. As I am doing this now, I am wondering - what's the best way to go? Is it better to create a new Website Project, and include the various backend services and database code as part of that project, or is it better to split out the various aspects of the project? If the second, how would I go about doing that? I want to ensure that this project is easy to manage in the future (in terms of source control, deployment, etc), so I want to make sure I'm starting off on the right foot.   Hi. When and where would you create database to develop web site using ASP.NET MVC 2 and Entity Framework 4 (CreateDatabase method). I think about first run of web site and redirect on welcome page, when controller creates database from model. But I doubt about details: 1. Where? In HttpModule, but request of any image or css will check that database exist. In custom RouteHandler, but then anybody need to know that need to use this handler when to add route. In BaseController, but then code will look like SomeController(..., IDatabase database) : base(database). 2. When? Better create database on first run by any url or may be on deployment of site (additional tool which create ObjectContext and invoke CreateDatabase)? Thanks.

  The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it.   I'm putting together a Dom0 and three DomU (all Gentoo) with kernel 3.5.7 and Xen 4.1.1. Each Dom has it's own md (md0 for Dom0, md1 for Dom1 etc). Current efforts include: Using translate transform Using animation on Canvas dependency properties (Left, Right) Using animation on custom dependency property (Point) and using drawing visuals (formattedtext) Using CompositionTarget.Rendering But the animation is still choppy and resource intensive. Checklist: Confirmed no software rendering is taking place (ms performance tool and checking RenderCapability.Tier) Calling freeze on any imaginable object Running app on dual core machine with decent graphic card (NVidia 9600) Disabled any bitmap effect and transparency Checked all marquee controls out there (same issues) Any ideas (or better yet code example)?

I've tried creating custom EndNote "output styles" containing either comma-delimited values or even SQL code, but have had mixed results, either because EndNote filters out some characters (like `) or because EndNote doesn't (or I can't work out how to make it) escape text, which might include characters like ' and ". I realize this might be a bit off-topic but any help would be appreciated.

  So the wonderful low down on this doozie of a problem: short version: We are building a distribution system for this item of software we're using. Basically we take out build artifact, store it on an ftp server which passes it to multiple clients which execute scripts to patch their servers. Long version: 1 distribution server multiple client servers software: jython 2.5.1, ant 1.8.0, pyro 3.10 The distribution server has an FTP server and a PYRO client running on it. Each client server has a PRYO server running on it. When the PYRO client is told to start the patch procedure then it reads a machine list which contains a list of all the client servers. Then connects to each of the PYRO servers one by one and execute the patch procedure. The procedure is: getPatch (gets the latest patch for that server), StopServer (stops the software that may or maynot be accessing what needs to be patched), Apply patch, StartServer. Each of the processes calls an ANT script that passes with some folder names and other config passes around. The fun part happens when you go to apply the patch. See below for error log. I had to remove the folder names because of NDA reasons. This is where it gets interesting. Running each section of the procedure individually. i.e. running getPatch, StopServer, etc. one at a time manually. This bug doesn't happen. Physically goign to the machine and running the processes it doesn't happen. Only when we call all 4 of the processes one after the other. It occurs during the ApplyPatch phase when an ANT replace script is called on multiple files. We think it might have something to do with the JVM keeping hold of the file for a split second or 2. however this is meant to have been patched according to the bug notes on ant. so in short: • Can't Deploy or Upload Large SSRS 2008 Report from VS or IE

  So far in this project I have two reports in VS2008/BIDS. The first one contains 1 tablix and is about 100k. The second one contains 3 tablixes (tablices?) and is about 257k. I can successfully deploy the smaller report from VS and I can upload it from the Report Manager in IE. I can view/run it from Report Manager and I can get to the Report Server (web service) URL from my browser just fine. Everything is done over HTTPS and there is nothing wrong with the certificates. With the larger report, the error I get in VS is "The operation has timed out" after about 100 seconds. The error when I upload from IE is "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send" after about 130 seconds. In the RSReportServer.config file I tried changing Authentication/EnableAuthPersistence from true to false and restarting the service, but still get the error. I have the key "SecureConnectionLevel" set to 2. Changing this to 0 and turning off SSL is not going to be an option. I added a registry key named "MaxRequestBytes" to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters and set it to 5242880 (5MB) and restarted the HTTP and SRS services as suggested in a forum post by Jin Chen of MSFT. I still cannot upload the larger report. This is on MS SQL 2008 and WS 2003.
