  Hello All, I am using the JPA(hibernate) for the ORM and c3po for connection pooling. While I am able to do all the CRUD operations it gives me the below error while accessing the the data: Here are the tools: Hibernate 3.2.1, Oracle 10g, ojdbc14, connection pool: c3p0-0.9, stack • can't properly shutdown ubuntu and sound problem on HP mini 311 netbook

  hi, I recently bought a HP mini 311 netbook. I replaced its harddrive and installed ubuntu 10.04. Since then, I have encountered some very strange problem with its sound and shutdown/reboot. At times, when I start the computer, it will have no sound, on the GUI the sound is at max, but no sound is available. This sometimes also happen after after upgrades, hibernate, and toggling the wireless radio button. Strangely, when the sound is out the device will also refuse to be shutdown. If I shutdown the computer using the GUI, it will simply go back to the log in screen without actually shutting down. If I use "sudo shutdown 0", the computer will hang on the loading screen of the shut down process. I had to force the pc to shutdown by holding the power button down. usually (probably always) after I force a turn-off then start off again. the sound and shutdown become normal. I wonder if anyone have clues regarding to the cause of this problem. This the info about the computer: 1) installed ubuntu 10.04LTS RC, later upgraded to formal released version. 2) cat /proc/asound/version == "Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21." however, when doing 'alsaconf' the version displayed is 1.0.23 any help is appreciated. • Application passwords and SQLite security

  I have been searching on google for information regarding application passwords and SQLite security for some time, and nothing that I have found has really answered my questions. Here is what I am trying to figure out: 1) My application is going to have an optional password activity that will be called when the application is first opened. My questions for this are a) If I store the password via android preference or SQLite database, how can I ensure security and privacy for the password, and b) how should password recovery be handled? Regarding b) from above, I have thought about requiring an email address when the password feature is enabled, and also a password hint question for use when requesting password recovery. Upon successfully answering the hint question, the password is then emailed to the email address that was submitted. I am not completely confident in the security and privacy of the email method, especially if the email is sent when the user is connected to an open, public wireless network. 2) My application will be using an SQLite database, which will be stored on the SD card if the user has one. Regardless of whether it is stored on the phone or the SD card, what options do I have for data encryption, and how does that affect the application performance? Thanks in advance for time taken to answer these questions. I think that there may be other developers struggling with the same concerns.

I simple steps i will try to explain my problem. 1) I am working on tinyOS . its open source OS , used for wireless sensor networks. It provides java libraries to work on communication (PC to sensor) 2) I am working on windows xp environment through cigwin. 3) I am developing an application . THis application requires one java interface called "Serial Forwarder" , which is readily available in libraries provided. Previously i used to start this interface manually (by entering command *"java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder ")*and then my application which uses this interface. But now i want to make my application independent . User need know about this background cygwin commands . 4) So in my java application i used "Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder)" . 5) This i neither giving any error nor starting the interface. Am I going on right way ? When i am using runtime execute command , how can i make sure that this command is called through cigwin interface ? Also .. if i want to write .bat file .. i which i can give commands which will be executed .. how can i make sure that those commands are given through cigwin .. and not through cmd.exe .. Please help . me .

• Atomikos rollback doesn't clear JPA persistence context?

  I have a Spring/JPA/Hibernate application and am trying to get it to pass my Junit integration tests against H2 and MySQL. Currently I am using Atomikos for transactions and C3P0 for connection pooling. Despite my best efforts my DAO integration one of the tests is failing with org.hibernate.NonUniqueObjectException. In the failing test I create an object with the "new" operator, set the ID and call persist on it. @Test @Transactional public void save_UserTestDataNewObject_RecordSetOneLarger() { int expectedNumberRecords = 4; User newUser = createNewUser(); dao.persist(newUser); List<User> allUsers = dao.findAll(0, 1000); assertEquals(expectedNumberRecords, allUsers.size()); } In the previous testmethod I do the same thing (createNewUser() is a helper method that creates an object with the same ID everytime). I am sure that creating and persisting a second object with the same Id is the cause, but each test method is in own transaction and the object I created is bound to a private test method variable. I can even see in the logs that Spring Test and Atomikos are rolling back the transaction associated with each test method. I would have thought the rollback would have also cleared the persistence context too. On a hunch, I added an a call to dao.clear() at the beginning of the faulty test method and the problem went away!! So rollback doesn't clear the persistence context??? If not, then who does?? • The 10.6.3 os x update broke simulated key-presses for Nestopia.

  The iPhone app that I released is a wireless game controller, it translates touches on the device into key-presses on the networked Mac. This allowed for playing emulator (e.g. Nestopia) games using the iPhone as a controller. Of course, the day that I released it coincided with an os x update. After installing this update, the simulated key-presses no longer work in Nestopia! The crazier thing is, when I go to 'File Open' within Nestopia, I can cycle through the file list by hitting the up-arrow on my iphone controller; i.e. the simulated key-presses work in menu items, but not in the game itself. The code that I use to simulate keys is below. Given the list of changes here, can anyone identify which change would cause this problem? • Sending emails in web applications

  Hi everyone, I'm looking for some opinions here, I'm building a web application which has the fairly standard functionality of: Register for an account by filling out a form and submitting it. Receive an email with a confirmation code link Click the link to confirm the new account and log in When you send emails from your web application, it's often (usually) the case that there will be some change to the persistence layer. For example: A new user registers for an account on your site - the new user is created in the database and an email is sent to them with a confirmation link A user assigns a bug or issue to someone else - the issue is updated and email notifications are sent. How you send these emails can be critical to the success of your application. How you send them depends on how important it is that the intended recipient receives the email. We'll look at the following four strategies in relation to the case where the mail server is down, using example 1. TRANSACTIONAL & SYNCHRONOUS The sending of the email fails and the user is shown an error message saying that their account could not be created. The application will appear to be slow and unresponsive as the application waits for the connection timeout. The account is not created in the database because the transaction is rolled back. TRANSACTIONAL & ASYNCHRONOUS The transactional definition here refers to sending the email to a JMS queue or saving it in a database table for another background process to pick up and send. The user account is created in the database, the email is sent to a JMS queue for processing later. The transaction is successful and committed. The user is shown a message saying that their account was created and to check their email for a confirmation link. It's possible in this case that the email is never sent due to some other error, however the user is told that the email has been sent to them. There may be some delay in getting the email sent to the user if application support has to be called in to diagnose the email problem. NON-TRANSACTIONAL & SYNCHRONOUS The user is created in the database, but the application gets a timeout error when it tries to send the email with the confirmation link. The user is shown an error message saying that there was an error. The application is slow and unresponsive as it waits for the connection timeout When the mail server comes back to life and the user tries to register again, they are told their account already exists but has not been confirmed and are given the option of having the email re-sent to them. NON-TRANSACTIONAL & ASYNCHRONOUS The only difference between this and transactional & asynchronous is that if there is an error sending the email to the JMS queue or saving it in the database, the user account is still created but the email is never sent until the user attempts to register again. What I'd like to know is what have other people done here? Can you recommend any other solutions other than the 4 I've mentioned above? What's a reasonable way of approaching this problem? I don't want to over-engineer a system that's dealing with the (hopefully) rare situation where my mail server goes down! The simplest thing to do is to code it synchronously, but are there any other pitfalls to this approach? I guess I'm wondering if there's a best practice, I couldn't find much out there by googling.

• Asp.net mvc application deployment / security issues

  I'll start with appologies; I wasn't sure if this was best posted here of Server Fault so if its in the wrong place then please move :-) Basic information I have written the first module of a new application at work. This is written using Visual Studio 2010, targetting .net 3.5 (at the moment) and asp.net mvc 2. This has been working fine during development running on the built in Development server from VS but however does not work once deployed to IIS 7/7.5. To deploy the application, I have built it in release mode and created a deployment package by right clicking on the project in the solution explorer (this will be done with an automated build in tfs once upgrade from the beta). This has then been imported into IIS on the server. The application is using windows/domain authentication. Issue #1 I can fire up internet explorer and browse to the application from a client computer as well as on a remote desktop connection. I can execute the code which reads/stores data in Session fine from the IE instance on the remote desktop but if I browse to it from the client pc it seems to lose the session state. I click on the form submit and the page refreshes and doesn't execute the required code. I've tried setting with; InProc, SQLServer and StateServer. but with no luck :-( Issue #2 As part of the application it views PDF and Tiff documents on the fly which are on a network share on the office network and creates thumbnails if the document hasn't been viewed before. This works if running on the machine the application is deployed to; however when browsing from a client pc I get an error saying: Access to the path '\\fileserver\folder\file.tif' is denied Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\fileserver\folder\file.TIF' is denied. ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via , the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user. As this is on a different server the user is not accessible. To get round this I have tried: 1 - setting the application pool to run as domain administrator (I know this is a security risk, but I'm just trying to get it to work at the moment!) 2 - to set the log on account for World Wide Web Publishing service to be the domain admin . When trying to restart the service I get ... Windows could not start the World Wide Web Publishing Service service on the Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified fro the other services running in the same process. Any pointers/help would be much appriciated as I'm pulling my hair out (of what little I have left). Update I've been using this funky little tool I found - DelegConfig v2 beta (Delegation / Kerberos Configuration Tool). This has been really usefull. So I've got the accessing of the file share working (there is a test page which will read the files) so now I've just got the issue of passing through the users credentials through to the SQL Server (wans't my choice to do it this way!!) to execute the queries etc. but I can't get it to log on as the user. It tries to access it as "NT Authority\Network Service" which doesn't have a sql login (as should be the logged on user). My connection string is: <add name="User" connectionString="Data Source=.;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> No initial catalog is specified as the system is over multiple dbs (also wasn't my choice!!). I really appriciate all the help so far! :-) Any further hints?!

• Where are the real risks in network security?

  Anytime a username/password authentication is used, the common wisdom is to protect the transport of that data using encryption (SSL, HTTPS, etc). But that leaves the end points potentially vulnerable. Realistically, which is at greater risk of intrusion? Transport layer: Compromised via wireless packet sniffing, malicious wiretapping, etc. Transport devices: Risks include ISPs and Internet backbone operators sniffing data. End-user device: Vulnerable to spyware, key loggers, shoulder surfing, and so forth. Remote server: Many uncontrollable vulnerabilities including malicious operators, break-ins resulting in stolen data, physically heisting servers, backups kept in insecure places, and much more. My gut reaction is that although the transport layer is relatively easy to protect via SSL, the risks in the other areas are much, much greater, especially at the end points. For example, at home my computer connects directly to my router; from there it goes straight to my ISPs routers and onto the Internet. I would estimate the risks at the transport level (both software and hardware) at low to non-existant. But what security does the server I'm connected to have? Have they been hacked into? Is the operator collecting usernames and passwords, knowing that most people use the same information at other websites? Likewise, has my computer been compromised by malware? Those seem like much greater risks. What do you think?

THis application requires one java interface called "Serial Forwarder" , which is readily available in libraries provided. Previously i used to start this interface manually (by entering command *"java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder ")*and then my application which uses this interface. But now i want to make my application independent . User need know about this background cygwin commands . 4) So in my java application i used "Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder)" . 5) This i neither giving any error nor starting the interface. Am I going on right way ? When i am using runtime execute command , how can i make sure that this command is called through cigwin interface ? Also .. if i want to write .bat file .. i which i can give commands which will be executed .. how can i make sure that those commands are given through cigwin .. and not through cmd.exe .. Please help . me .

• Error data: line 2 column 1 when using pycurl with gzip stream

  Thanks for reading. Background: I am trying to read a streaming API feed that returns data in JSON format, and then storing this data to a pymongo collection. The streaming API requires a "Accept-Encoding" : "Gzip" header. What's happening: Code fails on json.loads and outputs - Extra data: line 2 column 1 - line 4 column 1 (char 1891 - 5597) (Refer Error Log below) This does NOT happen while parsing every JSON object - it happens at random. My guess is I am encountering some weird JSON object after every "x" proper JSON objects. I did reference how to use pycurl if requested data is sometimes gzipped, sometimes not? and Encoding error while deserializing a json object from Google but so far have been unsuccessful at resolving this error. • J2ME cache issue

  I have to write a J2ME app to retrieve images from server and display in mobile phone. I have seen and test that Snaptu have a mechanism to cache image, event with 100 images (both normal size and zoom size). I wonder how they can do that? I though that those guys use rms to save image stream to data. But when i check in working folder of simulater( I use Windows XP and Sun Wireless Toolkit 3.0, the Emulator device i use to run my program is CLDC Device 1 - my working folder is C:\Document And Settings\Administrator\javame-sdk\3.0\work\6\appdb), i see some .db file. When i delete these files, i still can view cache image in my emulator???? I also thought that those guys use heap memory to save image. But it is not correct because when i set limit device memory is 2MB (like some mobile phones), and i load and view 100 images in zoom size, it didn't make OutOfMemory Error? It so weird. Any one can help me? Thanks

  i have the following problem. The 1st step is to implement a program, which follows a specific protocol on startup. Therefore, functions as onInit, onConfigRequest, etc. will be necessary. (These are triggered e.g. by incoming message on a TCP Port) My goal is to generate a class for example abstract one, which has abstract functions as onInit(), etc. A programmer should just inherit from this base class and should merely override these abstract functions of the base class. The rest as of the protocol e.g. should be simply handled in the background (using the code of the base class) and should not need to appear in the programmers code. What is the correct design strategy for such tasks? and how do I deal with, that the static main method is not inheritable? What are the key-tags for this problem? (I have problem searching for a solution since I lack clear statements on this problem) Goal is to create some sort of library/class, which - included in ones code - results in executables following the protocol. EDIT (new explanation): Okay let me try to explain more detailled: In this case programs should be clients within a client server architecture. We have a client server connection via TCP/IP. Each program needs to follow a specific protocol upon program start: As soon as my program starts and gets connected to the server it will receive an Init Message (TcpClient), when this happens it should trigger the function onInit(). (Should this be implemented by an event system?) After onInit() a acknowledgement message should be sent to the server. Afterwards there are some other steps as e.g. a config message from the server which triggers an onConfig and so on. Let's concentrate on the onInit function. The idea is, that onInit (and onConfig and so on) should be the only functions the programmer should edit while the overall protocol messaging is hidden for him. Therefore, I thought using an abstract class with the abstract methods onInit(), onConfig() in it should be the right thing. The static Main class I would like to hide, since within it e.g. there will be some part which connects to the tcp port, which reacts on the Init Message and which will call the onInit function. 2 problems here: 1. the static main class cant be inherited, isn it? 2. I cannot call abstract functions from the main class in the abstract master class. Let me give an Pseudo-example for my ideas: public abstract class MasterClass { static void Main(string[] args){ 1. open TCP connection 2. waiting for Init Message from server 3. onInit(); 4.   I am getting the below error from VS on an 32-bit XP Professional server even though I set Tools-Options-Database Tools-Data Connections to "SIDEKICK", which is the name of my computer. In other words SIDEKICK should default to the full SQLSERVER. In other words, I want VS to use SQLSERVER instead of SQLSERVER EXPRESS. And I can clearly see my database both from VS in the Server Explorer and also in SSMS 2008. Furthermore, I can view the tables of this database in Server Explorer from VS. I do not get any build errors. And it looks like all of the naming is consistent in my web.config file. I am developing my website according to a Microsoft tutorial, so I should not be getting an error. • How to remove a model object from an EMF model and its GEF Editor via Adapter

  This question is principally a follow-up to my question about EMF listening mechanisms. So, I have a third-party EMF model (uneditable) which is based on a generic graph model. The structure is as follows: Project | ItemGraph | Item | Document | DocumentGraph / | \ Tokens Nodes Relations(Edges) I have a GEF editor which works on the DocumentGraph (i.e., not the root object, perhaps this is a problem?): getGraphicalViewer().setContents(documentGraph). THe editor has the following edit part structure: DocumentGraphEP / \ Primary Connection LayerEP LayerEP / \ | TokenEP NodeEP RelationEP PrimaryLayerEP and ConnectionLayerEP both have simple Strings as model, which are not represented in the EMF (domain) model. They are simply used to add a primary (i.e., node) layer, and a connection layer (with ShortestPathConnectionRouter) to the editor. Problem: I am trying to get myself into the workings of EMF adapters, and have tried to make use of the available tutorials, mainly the EMF-GEF Eclipse tutorial, vainolo's blog, and vogella's tutorial. I thought I'd start with an easy thing, so tried to remove a node from the graph and see if I get it to work. Which I didn't, and I don't see where the problem is. I can select a node, and have the generic delete Action in my toolbar, but when I click it, nothing happens. Here is the respective source code for the different responsible parts.   I'm trying to customize my C3P0 settings to avoid the error shown at the bottom of this post. • Connecting Android device to multiple Bluetooth serial embedded peers

  I'm trying to find a solution for this setup: I have a single Android device, which I would like to connect to multiple serial embedded devices... I've searched far and wide, but came up with zip. The problem with the workaround is mentioned in the last link, both connection uses the same port, which in my case, causes a block, where both of the embedded devices can actually send data, that is not been processed on the Android, while both embedded devices can receive data sent from the Android. Did anyone handle this before?
