• Cannot reactivate RAID-5 volume: The size of the plex member is invalid

  We had a 3-drive Windows Server 2008 R2 RAID-5 fail (operating in redundancy mode): WDC 1 TB WDC 1 TB WDC 1 TB We removed the failed hard drive, and put a WDC 1 TB drive (that we had standing by) into the machine. When launched, Disk Manager, asked permission to "initialize" the disk as either: Master Boot Record (MBR) Guid Partition Table (GPT) We initialized the disk as GPT, converted it to dynamic, and tried to use the Repair Volume command - except it was greyed out. (which is a terrifying thing on a failed production server hosting 3 virtual servers) i tried from the diskpart command line tool. • Installed SQL Server 2008 and now TFS is broken.

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. Technical information (for administrator): TF30059: Fatal error while initializing web service. So I head on over to my event viewer on the server. Under Application, I see one warning and two errors. • Networking stopped working on Ubuntu

  I installed Ubuntu 10.04 through the Wubi installer (Funny, I installed it today and thought I would have gotten 10.10). I had a network connection and everything was working fine. I rebooted my coumputer a couple of times and then suddenly, I could not connect to the network and when I click the wireless/networking icon it says "Networking Disabled". I reinstalled Ubuntu and the problem went away. After a few reboots the problem returned. I have tried restarting to see if it would come back as well as a few other things listed below. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Tried to restart networking via /etc/init.d/networking: amato@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart * Reconfiguring network interfaces... • MS NPS denying access, can't validate server certificate

  At my office we use a Cisco WLC2504 wireless controller and starting about a week ago we started having problems with users connecting to one of our secure wireless network. We are running AD on Windows Server 2008 R2 and use network policy server to control access to our wireless network. When I look at the logs in event viewer after a failed connection attempt I see an access reject message: Reason Code: 262 Reason: The supplied message is incomplete. The signature was not verified. Looking this up on Google I found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838502 I tried disabling server certificate validation on my computer and as soon as I did that I was able to connect to the network, so it seems that there is some sort of certificate validation issue. I'm not sure which certificate is unable to be validated or how to fix it. This used to work and stopped suddenly by itself so I am thinking a certificate may have expired. When I go to NPS Policies Network Policies My policy Constraints Auth methods Microsoft PEAP and view the properties, the certificae specified here expires in 2016, so doesn't seem as though this could be the problem. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

When trying this using the IIS Management Console I always get an error: Value does not fall within the expected range. When trying to set the identity using appcmd.exe it fails on both the command setting the username and password or the command only setting the password. Setting the username is no problem. • Windows scheduled task fails to complete with error code 0xc000013a

  I'm using Windows Server 2003 and have a scheduled task that fails to complete. The task is set to run a Windows Command Script (.cmd) at 3pm each day. The script runs a program that extracts some data from a SQL Server database and uploads that data to an FTP server. The error code displayed in the "Last result" column of the scheduled tasks folder is 0xc000013a. A quick Google search leads to this Microsoft support page that states: The most common "C" error code is "0xC000013A: The application terminated as a result of a CTRL+C". No-one is logged in at the time the task runs, so there's no-one around to press CTRL+C. I'm not sure I understand what is being said here in the Microsoft documentation. I've checked the rudimentary things - the scheduled task is enabled, scheduled to run each day, and pointing to a file that does exist in a valid location. Interestingly, when I run this task manually (either by running the .cmd script from the command line, or by right-clicking the task and clicking "Run") the task completes successfully. What does this error code mean, and how can I get this task to run when I'm not there to force it?

• How to install OS X *.TTC font on Windows? Error: "*.TTC does not appear to be a valid font"

  I own both a Mac running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and a PC running Windows 7. On my Mac is a font called "AmericanTypewriter.ttc". I'd like to use that font on my PC, for a specific creative project. I was able to copy the actual font file over to the PC, but when I try to install it into the Windows Fonts folder I get the following error message: "Cannot install (FONTNAME).ttc - The file '(FONTNAME).ttc' does not appear to be a valid font." Can *.TTC format font files be installed on Windows? If so, how? Thanks! UPDATE: I downloaded the source code for a simple ttc2ttf utility (ttc2ttf_AA.tar.gz) found at this Japanese page and compiled it under cygwin via g++. The resulting executable extracted a single file, "AmericanTypewriter.ttf", from the TTC / True Type Collection. (Why have a collection with only one file!?) However, I still get an error message similar to the one above when I try to install the resulting AmericanTypewriter.ttf onto Windows. I'm stumped again. p.s. I no longer need this font on Windows, but now I'm determined to figure out why & how-to :-)

  I am trying to be able to use a program called Kodak Smart Touch, but just today I have experienced an error preventing it from opening. The scanner is a business class scanner, an i2900. It comes with a small program called Kodak Smart Touch. This program allows you to select and customize a number of presets on the front panel and automatically create/save scanned files, etc. I was running a backup with Aomei Backupper at the time, and I wanted to scan a file. I tried to scan as normal, but right at the end the program quit with an error. Now, whenever I try to start Smart Touch, even not running the backup and with Aomei uninstalled, the following error pops up: Title of message: KSSCFG (version 1.7.15.121102) has stopped working. Body: See (path name) for more information. When I go to the path in the error message, there are two files, ERRORLOG.txt and KSSCFG.dmp. The error log says, "KSSCFG (version 1.7.15.322.121102) case an Access Violation(0xc0000005).   Recently, senders from Hotmail have begun to get the following NDR when trying to e-mail our domain. EDIT : Full NDR Message Action: failed Status: 5.5.0 Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550-Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client, or login to the 550-IMAP/POP3 server before sending your message. 550-snt0-omc3-s36.snt0.hotmail.com [65.55.90.175]:49271 is not permitted to 550 relay through this server without authentication This is seemingly out of the blue and I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Pertinent Information We have multiple domains hooked up to our Exchange server. We changed our company name in January of this year, and the old primary domain (olddomain.com) will accept e-mails from Hotmail accounts, however e-mails sent to the new primary domain (newdomain.com) bounce back with the NDR listed above. The bounces only appear to be happening when the Hotmail sender is sending a new e-mail, and not if they are responding to an e-mail sent from our end. We have made no changes to the configuration of our server recently. This e-mail first appeared last Friday. As far as I can tell, the mail doesn't even seem to get to our server We performed an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration last year.   I am having a highly annoying problem on Windows 7 with Microsoft Outlook 2007. Now I have searched the web high and low for a solution here and most sources suggest the same solution of resetting your IE as your default browser. Tried .. failed A lot of sources suggest this has something to do with installing and uninstalling chrome. I have never installed Chrome but am actually consdering this to see if it by some chance fixes my computer. A lot of sources also point to a microsoft kb article 325478 which is focused around Windows XP and totally unrelated to my problem. I see there are some other queries on SuperUser with no resolution. Please can someone help solve this highly annoying issue. • HYPER-V R2 Can not mount ISO from network location (UNC Path)

  So, as the name suggest I'm trying to mount a ISO from a network share using the UNC path to a HYPER-V R2 Cluster. This is a pure Demo / test case setup with: 2x HYPER-V R2 1X NAS/iSCSI CSV Cluster Management is happening through the MMC with RSAT tools. So what i've done so far is: Set up the cluster and configure Quorum, add CSV Shares and disks, set up 1 Virtual Machine on the Hyper-1 node. What i'm trying to do is, you go to settings --- DVD Drive --- use network location ---- Pick ISO file and press "apply". Error I'm getting is either "User account does not have rights to mount iso". I changed that or stopped getting that message when I went to the HYPER-V Node settings and tabbed on: "Use Default Credentials Automatically". Now I stopped getting the "user does not have right..." message but I get the following: Error applying DVD Drive Changes Failed to remove device microsoft synthetic DVD Drive:" the specified network resource or device is no longer available" I've google'd the problem but am unable to find a solution. Anyone here able to help me out ? Much abbliged !

  I'm trying to install an ADFS proxy. In our intranet we have a ADFS 2.1 server running on Windows 2012 which is working fine. Now we're trying to deploy a proxy to this one for internet access, using Windows 2012 R2's Web Application Proxy. I'm getting the following error on the proxy server, event ID 393: Message : An error occurred while attempting to establish a trust relationship with the Federation Server. An error occurred when attempting to establish a trust relationship with the federation service. Error: Forbidden Context : DeploymentTask Status : Error I'm not getting any errors on the ADFS server. I've tried with different credentials. The ADFS service account, a domain administrator who is a member of the local administrators group on the ADFs server, and the local administrator account on the ADFS server. Same error message. Both port 80 and 443 is accessible from the proxy server to the internal ADFS server, and I can access the ADFS metadata endpoint from the proxy server. I'm using the same trusted SSL certificate (wildcard) on both machines. Do you have any ideas that can help me troubleshoot this problem?

• Adaptec 6405 RAID controller turned on red LED

  I have a server with an Adaptec 6405 RAID controller and 4 disks in a RAID 5 configuration. Staff in the data center called me because they noticed a red LED was turned on in one of the drive bays. I have then checked the status using 'arcconf getconfig 1' and I got the status message 'Logical devices/Failed/Degraded: 2/0/1'. The status of the logical devices was listed as 'Rebuilding'. However, I did not get any suspicious status of the affected physical device, the S.M.A.R.T. setting was 'no', the S.M.A.R.T. warnings were '0' and also 'arcconf getsmartstatus 1' returned no problems with any of the disk drives. The 'arcconf getlogs 1 events tabular' command gives lots of output (sorry, can't paste the log file here as I only have remote console access, I could post a screenshot though). I was not able to check the LED status, my guess is that the red LED is off again. Now I have a lot of questions: what is a possible cause for the medium error, why it is not reported by the SMART log too? Should I replace the disk drives? They were purchased just a month ago. The rebuilding process took one or two days, is that normal? The disks are 2 TByte each and the storage system is mostly idling. the timestamp of the logs seem to show the moment of the log retrieval, not the moment of the incident. Please advise, all help is very appreciated.

  I have a weird issue and I hope someone can steer me in the right direction for resolving this please. When I execute the following query against a linked server, I get the following error. I can connect to the server in SSMS as a separate server, and execute a similar query against its Deposits table. The nn.nn is my own replacement to avoid broadcasting our server addresses. The query: select td.Batch , td.DateTimeDeposited from Deposits cd left join [172.nn.nn.32\sqlexpress].Terminal.dbo.Deposits td on cd.DateTimeDeposited = td.DateTimeDeposited The error: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "172.nn.nn.11\sqlexpress" returned message "Login timeout expired". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "172.nn.nn.11\sqlexpress" returned message "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". Msg 65535, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. Notice how the error is about server 172.nn.nn.11 and not 172.nn.nn.32. SOLVED (STUPID ME): Somebody had added an extra bit to my query that was scrolled off-screen and was querying the 17.nn.nn.11 server.

• Handshake violation when trying to access one website

  I have a TZ 190 Wireless Enhanced with SonicOS Enhanced 4.2.1.0-20e. Yesterday, people could access without any problems a bank website wich uses HTTPS. Today, it is imposible to access only that website, every other ones works without problems. When checking the log message filtering to my IP only, this is what appears and I suspect is the cause of this problem, because all other websites are working: Priority: Notice Category: Network Access Message: TCP handshake violation detected; TCP connection dropped Source: X.Y.Z.3, 51997, LAN (admin) Destination: 200.14.232.18, 443, WAN Notes: Handshake Timeout Where X.Y.Z.3 is my local IP. I've tried to change TCP Settings under Firewall option, and activated this options with no success: Enforce strict TCP compliance with RFC 793 and RFC 1122 and Enable TCP checksum enforcement I've also tried to find the MTU and at first I got: Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set But when I lower the value of ping -f -l to 1468 I got: Request timeout. Also I deactivate CFS in lan and wan zones. Nothing works. Can you please help me? Any Ideas?

  I've installed freeSSHd on a Windows Server 2008 box (following the instructions in How to install an SSH Server in Windows Server 2008), including: created a user named "dspitzer" with NTLM authorization opened an exception for port 22 in the Windows Firewall But when I try to connect (from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 command-line), I get permission denied after entering the password: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried: $ ssh [email protected] [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried changing the authorization to "Password stored as SHA1 hash" and entering a simple password, but I get the same problem. And I've tried a different user name ("Administrator") with no luck. I've confirmed that I am connecting to the server I'm configuring—if I stop freeSSHd and try to connect I get: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 ssh: connect to host 12.34.56.78 port 22: Operation timed out I get the exact same results from a Linux command-line. Any advice or troubleshooting tips? Update: I tried disabling the firewall (in response to geeklin's comment) and it made no difference.   I've installed freeSSHd on a Windows Server 2008 box (following the instructions in How to install an SSH Server in Windows Server 2008), including: created a user named "dspitzer" with NTLM authorization opened an exception for port 22 in the Windows Firewall But when I try to connect (from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 command-line), I get permission denied after entering the password: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried: $ ssh [email protected] [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried changing the authorization to "Password stored as SHA1 hash" and entering a simple password, but I get the same problem. And I've tried a different user name ("Administrator") with no luck. I've confirmed that I am connecting to the server I'm configuring—if I stop freeSSHd and try to connect I get: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 ssh: connect to host 12.34.56.78 port 22: Operation timed out I get the exact same results from a Linux command-line. Any advice or troubleshooting tips? Update: I tried disabling the firewall (in response to geeklin's comment) and it made no difference. Update #2: I no longer have this machine (I've changed employers), so I have no way of verifying the answers. I guess all I can do is make this question "community wiki".

• Can't successfully run Sharepoint Foundation 2010 first time configuration

  I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration. I run this command: New-SPConfigurationDatabase -DatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Config" -DatabaseServer "developer.pleiado.pri" -AdministrationContentDatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Admin" -DatabaseCredentials (Get-Credential) -Passphrase (ConvertTo-SecureString "%h4r3p0int" -AsPlainText -Force) Of course all these are in the same line. I've broken them down into separate lines to make it easier to read. I'm running: Windows 7 x64 on the machine where Sharepoint Foundation 2010 should be installed and also has preinstalled SQL Server 2008 R2 Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core is my domain controller I've installed Sharepoint according to MS guides http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee554869%28office.14%29.aspx installing all additional patches that are related to my configuration. Any ideas what should I do to make it work?

• Windows Vista DHCP bug, arp authorize, isc dhcp, workaround

  I am trying to find a workaround for the Windows Vista Force Broadcast bug with ISC DHCP and a Cisco Router. The problem is not windows vista trying to obtain an IP address from us that works fine (with or without the flag enabled). THe problem is we are using a cisco router and the command 'arp authorized' to prevent users from using static IP addresses on the network. The problem is, if Windows Vista sets the boot flag to true the command 'arp authorized' will not work, as it looks for the IP address and destination MAC address in the DHCP Offer Packet to add it to its arp table. The machine will DHCP just fine, but since the ARP table is not aware of the machine, it is unable to access the internet. If I disable the broadcast flag in vista, the next time it DHCPs an arp entry gets created since the DHCP Offer is unicast instead of broadcast. The thing is, we can not tell 500 to 1000 people to edit their registry, so we need a workaround for this issue. I have not had much success in finding a workaround. The question is, is there a way to force or trick ISC DHCP into unicasting a responce back to the user. Either on the Cisco Side, ISC DHCP side or intercepting and rewriting the DHCP Discover UDP packet to turn off the flag before it reaches ISC DHCP?

• SBS 2008 BPA Warnings After Migration From SBS 2003

  We just finished a we-know-just-enough-to-be-dangerous migration from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008, and things seem to have gone relatively smoothly. After running the SBS 2008 Best Practices Analyzer on the destination server, we've got three warning messages, and I can't tell if they're important or not. First, the easy one: SMTP Port (TCP 25 Status): The Edgetransport.exe process should listen on SMTP port 25, but that port is owned by the process. I don't think that this one is a big deal--e-mail is flowing through the SMTP connector. Since there are two spaces between "the" and "process," I'm assuming that for some reason BPA just couldn't figure out the owning process name and this is just some sloppy programming when displaying the message. (Indeed, on subsequent runs of the BPA this message goes away, and other times it comes back.) Now, two more scary sounding ones: No DNS name server records: There are no DNS name server (NS) resource records in the _msdcs sub-domain in the forward lookup zone for Windows SBS 2008. and, similarly, No DNS name server records: There are no DNS name server (NS) resource records in the _msdcs zone for Windows SBS 2008. Now for these two, everything appears to be functioning correctly--but I'm assuming this is a weird state as a result of the SBS 2003 to 2008 migration. Can anyone provide any pointers on how to fix it, or whether or not it can be safely ignored? Thanks!

  I am trying to install a SSL certificate on IIS 7. I have download a free trial certificate. After that, this is the steps what I do: Click the Start menu and select Administrative Tools. Start Internet Services Manager and click the Server Name. In the center section, double click on the Server Certificates button in the Security section. From the Actions menu click Complete Certificate Request. Enter the location for the certificate file. Enter a Friendly name. Click OK. Under Sites select the site to be secured with the SSL certificate. From the Actions menu, click Bindings.This will open the Site Bindings window. In the Site Bindings window, click Add. This opens the Add Site Binding window. Select https from the Type menu. Set the port to 443. Select the SSL Certificate you just installed from the SSL Certificate menu. Click OK. This is the step where I get the message: One or more intermediate certificates in the certificate chain are missing. To resolve this issue, make sure that all of intermediate certificates are installed. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954755 After this, when I access the web site on its first page, I get this message: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. What am I doing wrong?

• Cisco PIX to Juniper Netscreen Policy-based VPN fails Phase 2 Proposal

  I've followed the instructions to configure a VPN between a netscreen device and a Cisco PIX as directed by Cisco's [netscreen to PIX VPN]http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/technologies_configuration_example09186a00801c4445.shtml article. The only differences are that I'm running PIX 6.3(5) and Juniper Netscreen 6.1.0r2.0 (Firewall+VPN). I followed both configurations exactly, and when I try to connect, the Juniper returns with: 2010-02-21 12:54:28 information IKE: Removed Phase 2 SAs after receiving a notification message. 2010-02-21 12:54:28 information IKE pix_public_IP: Received a notification message for DOI 1 14 NO-PROPOSAL-CHOSEN. 2010-02-21 12:54:28 information IKE pix_public_IP Phase 2: Initiated negotiations. On the Netscreen, I've created a Phase 2 Proposal called ToCorpOffice using DH Group#2, 3DES-CBC, and SHA-1, and when configuring the AutoKey IKE, I chose ToCorpOffice and removed all other transforms.
