  • Best way to integrate searching with pagination

    I have a web application build on cakephp 2.x. I have integrated pagination on my data. Now i want to implement searching on that data also, and pagination should work according to search result. Now my question is: Should i use a form to post my search string. If so, then which method should i use, GET or POST. OR, should i use javascript window.location method, and append the search string to it. If we use this method then search string can append more than once to url. Or any other best way to implement this. Can anybody give the best solution for this as it is a common task for each application to have.

    I am maintaining a Joomla 2.5 based magazine website with 3-4 new, long articles every day. Smart Search was enabled by default and now I've got a few "finder" tables full of indexed phrases and therms. I wonder if there are any disadvantages if I'd: Disable the Smart Search plugin Remove these 'finder' tables completely Aha, we're using a Search field, which works fine, but I'm not sure what's going to happen if I disable the plugin and remove these tables. Will it then search for phrases in content Joomla tables or simply break w/o missing 'finder' tables Has anyone tried this before?

    Given a list of (say) songs, what's the best way to determine their relative "popularity"? My first thought is to use Google Trends. This list of songs: Subterranean Homesick Blues Empire State of Mind California Gurls produces the following Google Trends report: (to find out what's popular now, I restricted the report to the last 30 days) Empire State of Mind is marginally more popular than California Gurls, and Subterranean Homesick Blues is far less popular than either. So this works pretty well, but what happens when your list is 100 or 1000 songs long? Google Trends only allows you to compare 5 terms at once, so absent a huge round-robin, what's the right approach? Another option is to just do a Google Search for each song and see which has the most results, but this doesn't really measure the same thing

  • jquery $.ajax load in UI dialog() problem

    i have a working bing Image search api with jsonp datatype. It's working with no problems. When i load the image search script in a Jquery UI dialog, it display properly and i'm able to search and see the results in the dialog() box. But if i close the dialog() and open it again, now if i search no results show. Looking at console.log, i do confirm the jason data is recieved, but for some reason it's not appending to the result div, so i see no result on the screen. This onyl happens if i close the dialog and open it again. If i refresh refresh the page and open the dialog again then search results are displayed.   • Dynamic web widget

    My vendor offers a widget creation service where I can login to their page, set initial values of a search form, after the save button is clicked, I can copy & paste the script code on my website to display a product search result widget. I am thinking to change this static widget to a dynamic one. Since my programming knowledge is limited, can experts tell me if it's possible to login https remotely (using cURL) and set search form values equal to values on my page (every time my page content changes, it will change the form value), then save the form. So the widget script I pasted on my page will always be refreshed to new search result. So the issue will involve cross domain, form submission & server/browser communication. I know a little jQuery, PHP, Ajax, cURL but so far I stuck with just having an idea but not really sure how to implement it.

    I have a strange problem here. I just moved from apache + mod_php to nginx + php-fpm. Everything went fine except this one problem. I have a site, let's say example.com. When I access it like example.com?test=get_param $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] is /?test=get_param and there is a $_GET['test'] also. But when I access example.com/ajax/search/?search=get_param $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] is /ajax/search/?search=get_param yet there is no $_GET['search'] (there is no $_GET array at all). I'm using Kohana framework. which routes /ajax/search to controller, but I've put phpinfo() at index.php so I'm checking for $_GET variables before framework does anything (this means that disapearing get params aren't frameworks fault).     One of the most popular question I get after watching my MySQL courses on Pluralsight is that beginning users are not able to find where they have installed MySQL Server. The error they receive is as follows when they type mysqld command on their default command line. ‘mysql‘ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. This error comes up if user try to execute mysqld command on default command prompt. The user should execute this command where mysql.exe file exists.  If you are using Windows Explorer you can easily search on your drive mysqld.exe and find the location of the file and execute the above command there. However, if you want to find out with command prompt the location of mysqld.exe file you can follow the direction here. Step 1: Open a command prompt Open command prompt from Start >> Run >> cmd >> enter Step 2: Change directory You need to change the default directory to root directory, hence type cd\ command on the prompt to change the default directory to c:\ . Here we are assuming that you have installed MySQL on your c: drive. If you have installed it on any other drive change the drive to that letter. Step 3: Search Drive Type the command dir mysqld.exe /s /p on the command prompt. It will search your directories and will list the directory where mysqld.exe is located. Step 4: Change Directory Now once again change your command prompt file location to the folder where your mysqld.exe is located. In my case it is located here in folder C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin hence I will run following command: cd C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin . Step 5: Execute mysqld.exe Now you can once again mysqld.exe on your command prompt. You can use this method to search pretty much any file with the help of command prompt.
