• Weird vps server issue

  I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop.   I'm using MailChimp's API to subscribe email to a list. Function listsubscribe() is used for email subscription: public static listSubscribe(string apikey, string id, string email_address, array merge_vars, string email_type, boolean double_optin, boolean update_existing, boolean replace_interests, boolean send_welcome) I downloaded MailChimp's official .NET wrapper for their API When looking in Visual Studio, this is one of overloaded functions: listSubscribe(string apikey, string id, string email_address, MCMergeVar[] merges) When I click on definition of MCMergeVar[], this comes out: [XmlRpcMissingMapping(MappingAction.Ignore)] public struct MCMergeVar { public string name; public bool req; [XmlRpcMissingMapping(MappingAction.Error)] public string tag; public string val; } In a php example on MailChimp's website, this is how merges variable is declared: $merge_vars = array('FNAME'=>'Test', 'LNAME'=>'Account', 'INTERESTS'=>''); How to write this array correctly for my C# wrapper? I tried something like this: MCMergeVar[] subMergeVars = new MCMergeVar[1]; subMergeVars["FNAME"] = "Test User"; But it requires an int in place where "FNAME" is now placed, so this doesn't work... • Slow NFS and GFS2 performance

  Recently I've designed and configured a 4 node cluster for a webapp that does lots of file handling. The cluster have been broken down into 2 main roles, webserver and storage. Each role is replicated to a second server using drbd in active/passive mode. The webserver does a NFS mount of the data directory of the storage server and the latter also has a webserver running to serve files to browser clients. In the storage servers I've created a GFS2 FS to hold the data which is wired to drbd. I've chose GFS2 mainly because the announced performance and also because the volume size which has to be pretty high. Since we entered production I've been facing two problems that I think are deeply connected. First of all, the NFS mount on the webservers keeps hanging for a minute or so and then resumes normal operations. My first guess was this was happening due to heavy load of the NFS mount and that by increasing RPCNFSDCOUNT to a higher value, this would become stable. I've increased it several times and apparently, after a while, the logs started appearing less times. The value is now on 32. After further investigating the issue, I've came across a different hang, despite the NFS messages still appear in the logs. Sometimes, the GFS2 FS simply hangs which causes both the NFS and the storage webserver to serve files. Both stay hang for a while and then they resume normal operations. This hangs leaves no trace on client side (also leaves no NFS ... not responding messages) and, on the storage side, the log system appears to be empty, even though the rsyslogd is running. The nodes connect themselves through a 10Gbps non-dedicated connection but I don't think this is an issue because the GFS2 hang is confirmed but connecting directly to the active storage server. I've been trying to solve this for a while now and I've tried different NFS configuration options, before I've found out the GFS2 FS is also hanging. The NFS mount is exported as such: /srv/data/ <ip_address>(rw,async,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,fsid=25) And the NFS client mounts with: mount -o "async,hard,intr,wsize=8192,rsize=8192" active.storage.vlan:/srv/data /srv/data After some tests, these were the configurations that yielded more performance to the cluster. I am desperate to find a solution for this as the cluster is already in production mode and I need to fix this so that this hangs won't happen in the future and I don't really know for sure what and how I should be benchmarking. What I can tell is that this is happening due to heavy loads as I have tested the cluster earlier and this problems weren't happening at all. Please tell me if you need me to provide configuration details of the cluster, and which do you want me to post. As last resort I can migrate the files to a different FS but I need some solid pointers on whether this will solve this problems as the volume size is extremely large at this point. The servers are being hosted by a third-party enterprise and I don't have physical access to them. Best regards. EDIT 1: The servers are physical servers and their specs are: Webservers: Intel Bi Xeon E5606 2x4 2.13GHz 24GB DDR3 Intel SSD 320 2 x 120GB Raid 1 Storage: Intel i5 3550 3.3GHz 16GB DDR3 12 x 2TB SATA Initially there was a VRack setup between the servers but we've upgraded one of the storage servers to have more RAM and it wasn't inside the VRack. They connect through a shared 10Gbps connection between them. Please note that it is the same connection that is used for public access. They use a single IP (using IP Failover) to connect between them and to allow for a graceful failover. NFS is therefore over a public connection and not under any private network (it was before the upgrade, were the problem still existed). The firewall was configured and tested thoroughly but I disabled it for a while to see if the problem still occurred, and it did. From my knowledge the hosting provider isn't blocking or limiting the connection between either the servers and the public domain (at least under a given bandwidth consumption threshold that hasn't been reached yet). Hope this helps figuring out the problem. I've also ran ping for a long time without any packet loss. MTU size is the normal 1500. As there is no VLan by now, this is the MTU used to communicate between servers. The webservers' network environment is similar. One thing I forgot to mention is that the storage servers handle ~200GB of new files each day through the NFS connection, which is a key point for me to think this is some kind of heavy load problem with either NFS or GFS2. If you need further configuration details please tell me. EDIT 3: Earlier today we had a major filesystem crash on the storage server. I couldn't get the details of the crash right away because the server stop responding. After the reboot, I noticed the filesystem was extremely slow, and I was not being able to serve a single file through either NFS or httpd, perhaps due to cache warming or so. Nevertheless, I've been monitoring the server closely and the following error came up in dmesg. I get an error when configure the XML with the following dtd: <!DOCTYPE prod-config SYSTEM "prod-config.dtd"> The error is as follows: For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method. prod-config.dtd is sitting in the same directory as the XML config file. I don't have access to the component code to modify XmlReaderSettings, ProhibitDtd etc. Is there anotherway I can modify or tag the XML file to permit the DTD to be accessed? (FYI, the component is Oracle Coherence .NET client)

  I just installed django-compress (http://code.google.com/p/django-compress) into /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/compress. I added 'compress' to INSTALLED_APPS. In my template file, I wrote {% load compressed %}. I got the error: 'compressed' is not a valid tag library: Could not load template library from django.templatetags.compressed, No module named compressed I verified that there is an init.py in compress, as well as in compress/templatetags/. I tried putting the compress directory into PYTHONPATH. I ran python and wrote "import compress" and that worked. Your suggestions would be very appreciated! What else can I try?

• WPF Custom Buttons below ListBox Items

  WPF Experts - I am trying to add buttons below my custom listbox and also have the scroll bar go to the bottom of the control. Only the items should move and not the buttons. I was hoping for some guidance on the best way to achieve this. I was thinking the ItemsPanelTemplate needed to be modified but was not certain. • How to use PJAX? (PJAX With PHP?)

  I was trying to get PJAX working with my PHP site, this is the code I am using for it: <script src="js/jquery.js"></script> <script src="js/jquery.pjax.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ // pjax $('ul a').pjax('section') }) </script> I am just using the code they used on the PJAX demo page, but replacing the container they used (#main) with the one for my site, which was the section tag. There are no errors on the console or on the page, but it doesn't work either! Before I was using $(function() { $('ul a').pjax('section') }); and $('document').ready(function(){ $('ul a').pjax('section') }); But when I don't use either of those and just use $('ul a').pjax('section') I see this error in the console: Uncaught no pjax container for section in jquery.pjax.js (line: 353) Could I get some help with this? • TinyMCE with AJAX (Update Panel) never has a value.

  I wanted to use a Rich Text Editor for a text area inside an update panel. I found this post: http://www.queness.com/post/212/10-jquery-and-non-jquery-javascript-rich-text-editors via this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1207382/need-asp-net-mvc-rich-text-editor Decided to go with TinyMCE as I used it before in non AJAX situations, and it says in that list it is AJAX compatible. Alright I do the good ol' tinyMCE.init({ //settings here }); Test it out and it disappears after doing a update panel update. I figure out from a question on here that it should be in the page_load function so it gets run even on async postbacks. Alright do that and the panel stays. However, upon trying to submit the value from my textarea, the text of it always comes back as empty because my form validator always says "You must enter a description" even when I enter text into it. This happens the first time the page loads and after async postbacks have been done to the page. Alright I find this http://www.dallasjclark.com/using-tinymce-with-ajax/ and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/699615/cant-post-twice-from-the-same-ajax-tinymce-textarea. I try to add this code into my page load function right after the tinyMCE.init. Doing this breaks all my jquery being called also in the page_load after it, and it still has the same problem. I am still pretty beginner to client side scripting stuff, so maybe I need to put the code in a different spot than page_load? Not sure the posts I linked weren't very clue on where to put that code. In all cases it never worked, and even sometimes broke the jquery that is also in my page_load... (and yes I changed the above code to fit my page) Can anyone get this to work or offer a solution?

• How to use WIX to deploy and run WCF service

  Hi I am trying to make an installer which deploys my wcf service, at the moment it is creating the virtual directory, but when i try connect my app to it, i get a CommunicationException was unhandled by user code The remote server returned an error: NotFound. I notice that if i create a virtual directory manually that it will connect and work, so i'm assuming IIS is doing something behind my back which is making it work. • QtWebKit problems playing HTML5 video

  I have a simple Qt application that launches a window with a QWebView. I tried several sites using the video tag with h.264, and it either can't play the video at all (as in youtube or sublime video), or it renders the video poorly, with black lines covering parts of it, like when viewing the video here. Is this a known issue with QtWebKit, or have I neglected to do something that would make it work better? • Extract inline images from Lotus Notes using Lotus Notes Java API

  I'm having issues to extract inline images that are pasted in the email body if the emails are sent from external email(like gmail for example) into the Lotus notes. The emails which are sent from Lotus Notes itself has no issues and I'm able to retrieve the inline images by using the document.generateXML() method and parsing through ['picture' xml element tag] the stream. My real concern is how to extract from the external emails(like gmail). I would really appreciate for your help and time on this. Thanks in advance!...

• Catches communication exception instead of custom fault exception - WCF

  I want to enable form based authentication by using database as realm but I'm always getting that message whenever I try to authenticate as Tomcat manager in Tomcat 6. I have already created a table user_name and user_roles and mapped the username(blue) to admin and manager as role in user_roles table in mysql, but still I'm unable to authenticate and enable form based authentication. • Mac Quick Look Preview in an NSView or NSImage?

  I am looking for a way (public or otherwise) to get an NSView, NSImage, CGImageRef, etc that shows the QuickLook preview for a file. Essentially the equivalent of QLThumbnailImageCreate() but for the preview. The public APIs I can find do not support this. They allow the creation of a thumbnail image or a QLPreviewPanel. The panel does in fact display the quick look preview, but I cannot get access to the preview's appearance to embed it in other views, nor can I display multiple previews at once. For background, I am writing an app where users can embed links to other files that should be displayed inline, kind of like an <img> tag in HTML. For images like JPGs and PDFs it's easy to figure out what to display. I thought that for other formats I would use Quick Look to generate a nice visual representation of the file's contents. This way the set of formats supported by my application would be easily extensible (just download new Quick Look generators).
